WOYWW #434- The After Tim Holtz edition!

So, back in the land of reality, after a fabulous workshop at Art From The Heart, Harrowgate, with Tim Holtz & Mario Rossi.

A wonderful time was had by all, and 4 hours just flew by.
At the end, we got goodies to rake away with us- the two stencils we used were made especially for the workshop, so won't ever be available to buy.

Top left is an Apron, and bottom left is a bag for 'putting your thoughts and ideas into'. Those things we jot down on a bit of paper, then promptly forget what we did with them.

All those came in this bag with the Creative Chemistry Live UK Edition on, and our lanyards.

Next came a folder, with refill inserts, to store all our tags from the lessons in. Plus the specially printed badge for the front.

The folder itself, & inserts are available to buy, and a great way of storing tag samples.

A notebook, to write thoughts and ideas in.

Again, this is available to buy as part of the regular Idea-ology range.

Final gift was a piece of 'Good Luck' jewellery from the Assemblage line.

Finally, I took my Compendium of Curiosities, and Distressables books with me, just in case I could get them signed. And sign them he did, quite happily.

Everything was so well organised, and both Tim & Mario took time with people, making them feel they were an important part of the day, it was a wonderful atmosphere.

I'll do another post later in the week on all the tags, and I'll bring them to the crop with me.

Even taking time for a silly photo!

I'm feeling much better this week than I did last, by Saturday, the worst of the side effects were easing off, which I was pleased about. Didn't expect them to shift quite so fast.I am still tired, but I think Sunday was such a long day, so accounts for some of that, and I have a really painful butt, as I sipped over in the bathroom on Saturday afternoon, and landed firmly on my rear, so it feels bruised.

Anyhow, I'm done, bed is calling. I'll be round during the day today. Hugs to everyone.

WOYWW #411

Nearly missed another weeks WOYWW- just realised in time what day it actually is! Where we work, we have Monday and Tuesday holiday for Easter, as we only work half a day on Friday anyway, and I only just realised today is Tuesday, so I need to get my post sorted out.  Regulars will know that Julia, over at The Stamping Ground is our weekly host for this blogfest.
Sorting out Christmas images for the Christmas Card Club post, and came across these, which mostly just need some colour adding to make them usable.
Had another bunch of images I decided to cut into tags, using the Sizzix Thinlits Tags die set.
No idea where I'm going with these yet, they will probably end up back in the poly envelope until inspiration strikes.
I think the first batch will get some colour using the Starlights paints from Imagination crafts, so that will most likely keep me occupied this evening. Some may just get some dye inks sponged on, we shall see.
All of these have been lying around for a few years now- I tend to stamp up a number of any image while I have the stuff out!
Short and sweet this week, so I'll see you later.

WOYWW #335

So, it's Wednesday again, which can only mean one thing- time to hook up at The Stamping Ground, under the watchful eye of our smashing leader, Julia.By now you are probably all Halloween Cropped out, but I have a few pics to share, and a lovely day was had by all.
Some gorgeous tags were made and shared by some of those who came, and I just wish I'd been up to crafting, as Halloween tags were right up my ( spooky) alley. So thank you, to all those who gave me tags, they are awesome- do you like Kyla's 'Mummy' with the googly eyes? I think its great.

Lots of lovely cake- it's a good job we're not covered by the Trades Description Act- we'd have to rename our crop as the 'WOYWW cake eating and chatting crop',lol. A smashing lunch, provided as always by our amazing LLJ,who kept everyone supplied with tea and coffee too.

I bought a hat from Tesco especially for the occasion- and the hall was brilliantly Halloween decorated by the group who were having a quiz night on Saturday evening.

Our lovely leader, Julia, with Debbie and Marg, ( Tattered Rocks and Silvercrafter),possibly admiring the multiple shades of blue Debbie managed to get her fingers! Kyla busy quilting in the background.

Morti and Dave, with Dolores behind them. Fiona and Lisa-Jane.

Mary Anne, appearing to have been abandoned by all.

I will leave you with those, as I'm sure you will see many more shots of our day, and indeed there have been some amazing pics already on LLJ's blog, HERE.

I surprised myself, to be honest, with how well I coped with being sat/standing up all day, so much so in fact that I said to Hubby that I thought I would go to the NEC this weekend for the Hobbycrafts show. I'd really thought I wouldn't manage it this year, but I'm getting much stronger every day, so I reckon I'll be ok. Especially as Beloved Hubby said he would go with me- just to be sure I managed without any difficulties. So me and my Enabler Extrodinaire will be going on Sunday- not sure which of us will spend the most, lol.

Playing with Brushos, Day 2

Okay, back after the coffee break, lol. This post will also be picture heavy, I warn you now.
Yesterday, ( Previous Post) I used the Brushos on Smooth watercolour paper, and some Canvas sheet. Now I wanted to see the results using ordinary cardstock, bearing in mind the water involved. I used some Neenah cardstock, some Stamping card from Hunkydory, some generic white card, and some coated cardstock. However, first thing out today was some disposable gloves!

These are both done on Neenah cardstock, on the left, crystals first, then spritzed. On the right, water first, then sprinkled in the crystals. Both were taped down with Artists low tack tape to stop them curling.

This is Hunkydory Stamping card,on the left, and so far, all the cardstock seems to be coping well with the water.
On the right is the coated cardstock. Not affected by the water, but you don't get the same sort of colour intensity you get with uncoated.

Another thing you can do with the Brushos is the same technique you use with Distress Inkpads- swiping some onto a craft mat and spritzing. In this case, you sprinkle on some crystals, and spritz.
Here I've sprinkled them onto my Inking mat.

 Spritzed with water....

...added some more orange and spritzed again.

Took some blank tags- just standard generic white card-

- and swiped the tags through it.

Here I've sprinkled some red crystals on top. You can see how they start to wick and spread in the water.

Blues and purples on this one.....

...Then throw a little red on top again, and spritz a bit more.

Now another piece of coated cardstock to mop up the colours on the sheet. You get this strange 'resist' pattern appear.

Now I thought I'd try the clingfilm trick. Sprayed a sheet of generic card with yellows, greens and browns. Gave it a good spritzing.

Scrumpled up some cling film, that opened it out.

Remember to tear your cling film much bigger than your cardstock, so you can crumple it up again on top.

Lay your cling film on top, and add as many creases to it as you can with your fingers. Put it aside to dry.

Not a total success- you can see some markings from the creases, but I think I didn't have enough water on there.Possibly the card soaked up too much. Maybe I should have spritzed the cling film too? Something to try next time.

Final thing I wanted to try-there seems to be a divide on the subject of heat setting. Some say don't it fades the colours, others say it's fine. So, to test it out, I sprinkled two pieces of Neenah card with approximately the same amount of colour, and gave them a spritz. The top one I put aside to air dry, the bottom one I heat set with my heat gun.

And here they are, both dry, side by side. The one on the left is the one I air dried, and the one on the right got the heat gun. To be honest, looking at this, I'd say there is very little to call it either way.

Now a round up- here are a couple of shots of the tags.

And some of the cardstock sheets.

And a few things I discovered:
 1. They're messy- gloves are a good idea, as is an apron, or old clothes.
2. Next time, I'll cut the bottom off a black bin liner, slit it down the side, open it out and put that over my table!
3.It's a good idea to tape your cardstock down, whatever you use, to stop it curling.
4. I think you would get paler colours with less powders. They really are very strongly pigmented, although they do fade a tad when they dry. There is also a white in the box, so I'll be trying that with some of the colours later to see what it does.
5. You can use them like paints, and if you mix them in a palette, you can let them dry out, then revive later with a little water.
6. You need to remember your Colour Theory, in order to not make mud, lol.

7. If you add powder first, then spritz, it will affect where the colour goes- the spritzing pushes it around.
8. If you have pools of wet colour you want to remove, do it with the corner of a paper towel. If you try blotting it with a whole sheet, you'll lift off a lot of the colour.Equally, you can take the colour down a number of notches this way

Molly on a Tag

Posts today are a bit like buses- none for ages then two show up at once!
I decided that I would enter the Visible Image Blog April Challenge, which is Create A Tag, using at least one of their stamps. As you can tell from the title, I used another of my coloured Molly images. Apologies right now for shortage of pictures- I completely forgot whilst I was stamping.

This was the image I used, and I cut her out from the background with a scalpel. After that, I went around the edge of the image with a Black Promarker, to cover the white edges.
The tag itself was cut from a sheet of card I did some Distress Ink techniques with a few weeks ago- the DI re-inker was put onto a craft sheet, misted with water, then the card dipped into it. After that, I flicked some water over it, let it sit for a minute or two, then blotted it off with kitchen towel.

Festive Berries was the re-inker used, all the colour variation comes from the misting and water flicking. I stamped over all the tag with Ripped Fishnet, in Black Versafine, then heat embossed it using Crystal Sparkle embossing powder, for a bit of bling. Next I wrapped some black lace around the tag, securing it on the back with double sided tape. Over this I tied a narrow red ribbon into a bow.
The top of the tag had a hole punched, and a red eyelet put in. A skull embellishment was threaded onto some red eyelash wool, and tied through. Molly was mounted on the tag using silicone glue, for dimension.
Here is the tag enlarged, so you can see the Ripped Fishnet detail.

Supplies:
Visible Image stamps, Molly Rules and Ripped Fishnet
 Distress Re-inker, Festive Berries
Onyx Black Versafine inkpad
Crystal Sparkle embossing powder, Stampendous Stamp'n'Stuff
Black Lace
 Red Ribbon
 Red Fibres
Charm- mine came from Riverside Beads, in the Steampunk section.

Using 'stuff' up

Thought I would try and use up some stuff I've had lying around forever with a few cards. Not entirely successful, I must say.  I'd started off by stamping some tags using the emboss resist that I've been playing with all week. I forgot to take pictures before I started, so you'll see the tags on the cards.

The quote on the tag is a stamp by Inkylicious, called Live Life. The tag is sponged with DI's in Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade. I overstamped it with some Lavinia Stamps fairies, a group of stars and Running Water, another Designs By Ryn stamp.
 All stamped in Spiced Marmalade.

The image is on a piece of card I had started to brayer in yellow, so I stuck on a post-it note mask, and brayered oranges and blues over it. The image is a Stampscapes stamp,Lakeside Cabin, stamped in Staz-on Timber Brown ,the birds from another Inkylicious set,Take Flight, which has a lot of different sized Bird flocks in it. Both image and tag are matted onto dark brown card. I ran a sheet of marbled cardstock through my 'bug in Tim Holtz's Woodgrain folder twice, and added that to the card front for a bit of interest.

The second card uses Inkylicious stamps again, the same quote stamp, and a Birch Trees background. The Birch trees were stamped in Smokey Gray Versafine, and the background had been brayered in red, getting paler towards the bottom. I just brayered over the pale end with Adirondack blues. Both pieces are matted onto dark blue on a black base card. The tag had Raindrops stamped over it, I randomly patted the stamp with Festive Berries and Salty Ocean.

The final card is the one I am least happy with. I though I would try using up some of the ridiculous amount of patterned paper I have. 6x6,8x8,12x12- you name it. At the time I bought them, I loved them. Really. Now-not so much. The tag is fine, its the rest of the card I'm not overly excited about.

The tag has a different quote from Inkylicious on it, called Always Remember. This tag was inked by putting DI's in Spiced Marmalade and Salty Ocean on  a craft sheet, misting with water and dipping the tag in, after I'd done the resist stamping. Then I overstamped it with the Birch trees stamp, in Spiced Marmalade again once it was dry.

When I first started card making, I used a lot of patterned/textured papers, and possibly cornered the world market in mulberry paper. Nowadays, since I discovered stamping, its really not my thing anymore. I will have to try inking and overstamping some of them- maybe that will work for me.
