Green Shadows and Zorn Palette Portraits

"Green Shadows"
10 x 10 inches, oil on panel
$400
Sold

It's been awhile since I've painted my glass float collection, but I'm back in love! You can see a couple more new float paintings on Instagram.

Also - I'm really excited for my newest video workshop! It's being released tomorrow, August 5th, and I'm super proud of it. Are you interested in exploring the Zorn palette? (Or, as I like to call it, "training wheels for flesh tones?") Join me!

Lemon Water and Silver

"Lemon Water and Silver"
9 x 12 inches, oil on panel
Sold

I get asked all the time if I eat the things I paint in my still lifes. The answer is - not always. Sometimes I try to get other people to eat them! But I drank every drop of this lemon water, along with batches made from those lemons lurking in the bowl. A favorite hot weather drink, for sure!

Blue Check

"Blue Check"

I got lost in this pattern. Such a meditative painting experience!

Stay well, everyone - and keep painting! 🙏

Green Juice

"Green Juice"
8 x 8 inches, oil on canvas
$300

I fell in love-at-first-sight with this little green guy at a workshop in Florida last week, and my hosts graciously gave it to me! That kind of thing actually happens pretty often - being a still life painter does tend to create object-obsession - and simple gifts (or long-tern loans) tend to turn into painting subjects I can mine for months - if not years!

Italian Plums

"Italian Plums"
12 x 12 inches, oil on canvas
$450

I was given a LOT of these plums by a generous friend with a generous tree. I made five paintings of them last week! So, abundance all around.

August Hydrangeas

"August Hydrangeas"
16 x 16 inches, oil on canvas
Sold

The colors in these "white" hydrangeas are so subtle and varied - I saw a lot of greens reflecting from the ground and the leaves. And where there's green, there's usually purple! Lucky me, my favorite color combo.

I've got a few more workshops in 2019 - the next one is portrait painting in Eugene, Oregon. It's going to be a small, intimate group (8 max) at one of my favorite local studios, Whiteaker Printmakers. We'll be using the Zorn palette. What is it and how does it work? Come find out! Three spots still open. Click here to view and share.

Thanks!

Pitcher of Almond Milk

"Pitcher of Almond Milk"
12 x 12 inches, oil on canvas
$450

I'm tempted to keep this one for myself, it's so soothing to my eye. Some color combinations just speak to us, don't they?

Golden Spiral

 "Golden Spiral"
10 x 16 inches, oil on canvas
$500

Why did I call this one "Golden Spiral?" Because it fits so nicely inside the Fibonacci spiral! You can see another painting on a Golden Mean ratio canvas in my previous post.

Pink Milk

 "Pink Milk"
10 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
$350

I noticed, after the first session of work on this painting, that the milk looked very pink - especially before I filled in the pinks on the plate. I toned it down a bit, but the name stuck!

(Work-in-progress:)

Three Limes

"Three Limes"

Pool Party

sarah sedwick
 "Pool Party"
8 x 16 inches, oil on canvas
Sold

More fun with my new white ceramic pear. I showed this painting to my dad, and he said "That white thing is unnerving." Do you agree?

Here's the value plan for this composition. It got a little skinnier from sketch to finish....

Pale and Glowing

sarah sedwick oil painting
 "Pale and Glowing"
9 x 12 inches, oil on canvas
$350

I picked this pear from amidst the jumble at an antique mall on the Oregon coast last week...

...and it's since made itself right at home with my other still life objects. It's an ever-changing menagerie!

Did you know I sell these black and tan sketches? Usually to followers on Instagram, since that's where they are most often posted. If you see one you like, send me an email! They are $50 a piece.

Radiate

sarah sedwick "Radiate" oil painting still life
 "Radiate"
8 x 8 inches, oil on canvas
$250
Sold

For this one, I did a quick study with black sharpie and grey Pitt pen on white paper - just three values. When you have your composition all planned out before you get to the canvas, painting is even MORE fun!

Lemons in Glass - And Videos!

"Lemons in Glass"
8 x 8 inches, oil on canvas

This was April's demonstration for my Online Art Mentorship group, talking about painting glass - a subject many of us love to visit and revisit - including me! It was a great session, and I've got the videos to prove it.

Four Tulips

"Four Tulips"
10 x 10 inches, oil on canvas

I love the white bottoms of tulips. These were a particularly satisfying color to mix. I used a combination of Alizarin Crimson and Pyrrol Red. Luscious!

Opening to the Light

"Opening to the Light" 10 x 10 inches, oil on canvas by Sarah Sedwick
"Opening to the Light"
10 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
$350

When I walked into the studio yesterday morning, I was immediately captivated by these daffodils - the way the blooms move from almost closed to completely open. I knew that was not going to last long once I turned the spotlight on them! So I painted the flowers first, and by the time I'd finished the rest of the painting, quite a bit later in the day, they were all wide open.

Thirsty

"Thirsty" 8 x 10 inches, oil painting on canvas by Sarah Sedwick
"Thirsty"
8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
$250
Sold

These flowers were only thirsty for a little while - I popped them into the glass once I finished this painting, and we all breathed a sigh of relief.

Hope

"Hope" floral daffodil tarot art oil painting still life by sarah sedwick 9x12 inches
"Hope"
9 x 12 inches, oil on canvas
$350
Sold

I thought I would counter yesterday's sorrow with some of the antidote. A quietly sunny spring painting.
The Tarot card in this piece is also a hopeful one - the Ten of Cups, symbolizing emotional fulfillment. Not sure how it works when it's sideways - I'll leave that to the experts! :)
