Value Study

12 x 12"

Email me for purchase info.

I used Ultramarine, Burnt Sienna, and white to paint this. I never use black at all - I'm not sure I even own any. If I need an even darker dark than I achieved in this study, I add a little Alizarin Crimson to the mix.

I painted this yesterday, but couldn't take a picture until this morning. It's basically a study for a larger painting I'm planning. I had a hard time pinning down the color /value difference between the candles and the ceramic, but I enjoyed painting the candlestick - especailly the round bulbous part near the top. It was also nice to have light objects against a dark background for a change of pace.

I had Bonobo on the whole time. If you haven't heard of him, it's worth a listen.

Orange and Tomato

I actually think this is the first time I've ever painted an orange. I'm not sure how that can be true, but it is.

The Cure is on today.

Painted Bowl

NFS

Facing the challenge of white-on-white. I think I got a little more variation in the character of the individual whites than is showing up in the photo.

Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti" was the soundtrack. I don't know why, but Led Zeppelin makes my hands steadier.

The red in this painting is very fresh, especially against the dull green ground. Led Zeppelin and The Black Crowes provided the soundtrack.

This is daily painting number four.

It's been many years since I last tried painting on masonite. This time I used the rough side, and liked the feeling a lot more than I did when I tried the slick side. I felt the paint was drying much faster than normal, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
I really enjoyed painting the white dishes. Listening to Pink Floyd "The Wall" while I did it was pretty awesome too.

Blue-Green Bottle

8x10"
oil on canvas board
$50

Green is difficult. I love plants so much, but painting them is not as easy as getting them to grow and flourish. I've always avoided green subjects, but lately I've been practicing. This is a lovely little Anthurium that I bought out of bloom. Wonder what color the flowers will be when they come out...
