February Leap Challenge by Laurie

Reader Laurie submitted this layout for the February Leap Challenge.  She said:

Here is my take on the February Leap challenge. I can't believe I didn't use a picture on this. I ALWAYS use pictures. That was quite a "leap" for me. This was inspired by those Honda CR-V ads about what you want to do before you do other things, so this is about the things I want to do (or that need to happen) before we have kids. The letter stickers, stickers, and tags are My Little Shoebox.
Thanks!
Laurie

Pagerize Tamara by Laurie

Tamara Reader Laurie submitted this layout for the Pagerize This #18 Challenge.  She said:

Hi,
Here is my entry for the Pagerize #18 challenge. Pardon the ebonics in the title. I used Echo Park Life is Good papers and some extra stuff on this one. This is going in my Book of Me: it's just another example of people getting my name wrong. VERY wrong. The journaling reads: I gave the security guard my driver's license and this is the name he got from it. ??? The last name is close but where did "Angela" come from? It never fails to amaze me how people botch such a simple first name. I knew I had to document this.
Thanks!
Laurie

October Quote Challenge by Laurie

Reader Laurie submitted this layout for the October Quote Challenge. She said:

Here is my take on the October Quote Challenge. This quote has always been a favorite of mine. It's from C.S. Lewis: "If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world." I kept this one pretty simple. The photo I took through the window of my bus on the way home from work one night. Then I added some photo effects to it using Picnik. This layout also uses a lot of twine. It was my first time really using it and it was a lot of fun!

Thanks!
Laurie

Pagerize Dawn by Laurie

Reader Laurie submitted this layout for the Pagerize This Challenge.  She said, "this is a page of my favorite bands U2. I am thinking it has some of the elements. The three pictures, the one-line descriptions.

The patterned paper is Cosmo Cricket and the purple paper is from my stash. The star is a clear plastic star that I added alcohol ink to to give it more dimension."

Now it's your turn to take the Pagerize This Challenge.  See Dawn's layout and all the details in Pagerize This Challenge #4 below.  You could become our next Pagerizer.Posted by Picasa

October Challenge by Laurie

Design Team Member Laurie submitted this layout for the October THAT Project Challenge.  She said, "Here's a page that is back from September 2009. Maybe not terribly long ago, but when it was such a fun topic, I don't know why it took me so long to do it! This page is about DH and my trip to see Monty Python's Spamalot in San Jose. Little did we know that I would have *the* seat that had the grail under it! I was then escorted up on stage during the performance to receive my Best Peasant Award from King Arthur himself! I got a foot statue and the award certificate shown on the layout. The polaroid is something the actors take during the performance to give to you as well. So I don't know why it took me so long to do this page, but I'm happy that it's done so I can be sure to remember the fun!
Now it's your turn to take the challenge.  What is your THAT project.  We'd love if you would share with us.  See all the details in how to submit your project in the October Challenge post below.  Also, don't miss our Pagerize This Challenge - details below.

September Challenge by Laurie

Posted by Picasa
Design Team Member Laurie created this layout for the September border punch challenge.  She said, "I decided to do something different and actually use the border punched pieces on the border of the layout, whereas I usually use them somewhere in the center of the layout. I thought this would ground my page yet add some other color interest. I then also brought the color in the center of the layout by using my cuttlebug embossing folder, another tool I often forget to use. The brochures about Muir Woods stand in for my title as I used a part of a transparency to make an invisible pocket."

Time is almost up - the September Challenge ends at on the 30th.  Be sure to get your project submitted before the deadline.  See all the details in the September Challenge below.  And don't miss out on our other fun challenges going on right now see the following posts below:  Pagerize This Challenge and the Frugal Friday Tip Challenge.

August Challenge

Design Team Member Laurie submitted this layout for the August Challenge.  She said,  "This August Challenge was a little bit of a true challenge for me. Looking back on my previous layouts, I actually notice that I don't put too many flowers on my pages. I did want to try out a handmade flower tutorial though, so I made an exception on this page and made sure to leave room for a flower. I did the tutorial found here

Don't miss participating in the August Challenge - see all the details below.  You may also want to take the "Pagerize This Challenge" also.  Details are below.Posted by Picasa

June Challenge / Sketch Challenge 2 Combo

First 5K by Laurie

Design Team Member Laurie submitted this layout for both the June Stitch Challenge and the Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge 2. She said, "this layout consists of both the June stitching challenge and Robin's great sketch. I started out with my four pictures, found the background patterned paper with stitch lines and then knew I wanted to try out stitching each of the panels. I'm still new at getting a straight line with my sewing machine, but I hide that fact a bit with my distressing. I find it works wonders!

$$Frugal Friday Tip$$

Using Collage Photos by Laurie

For this Frugal Friday tip, it sometimes pays to pay attention to your junk email, specifically those that offer things for free! One such promotion I find regularly is free (or reduced price) is collage prints at places such as Walgreens.
I've found collage prints to be a fun and easy way to get a variety of picture sizes for a one-page layout with multiple photos. The following photos in this post show how you can start off with an 8x10 and finish with a multiple photo layout. The process to create the print was easy online: just upload your photos, select collage print, and shuffle the photos around until you get the proportions that you desire. Getting the print can be done in a store or shipped (for a little extra). For this layout, I wanted the photo of my DH to be my focal point so I shuffled the photos on the store's website until I liked the final result. My second picture shows all of the photos cut apart. As the photos have whitespace between them you could also leave borders around the photos. Finally, my last photo shows the completed page following a sketch that allowed for different photo sizes. I find this is a great way to get out of a rut of only 4x6 photos, which I find myself in sometimes. Trimming at a 4x6 works, but sometimes it's nice to have the photos scaled in proportion already.
As another example, here is a layout that merely uses a 5x7 collage print entirely. Of course, Walgreens (or any other drug/pharmacy store) is for convenience due to the prints being on sale or sometimes free. This tip can easily be done at home with your desired photo paper size and a photo printer. Just start off with a canvas in Photoshop of the same size as your paper and drop photos in scaled to different sizes. Thanks for letting me share my Frugal Friday tip!

Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge

Fab Food by Laurie

Design Team Member Laurie submitted her take on of the Scrap Our Stash Sketch. Here is her description: "This layout is of the food from my travels to Peru. We liked this place so much that we went there twice for the yummy brownie desserts.

I tried to incorporate many elements of the sketch with the striped and angled background, title placement, number of focal elements and circles made from ribbon. The ribbon was just something fun to do and I think it turned out pretty neat! Posted by Picasa

Now it's your turn to take the sketch challenge. See all the details below in Sketch Challenge.

May Challenge

Graduation Card by Laurie

Design Team Member Laurie submitted this Graduation card that she created for the May "Get Out Of Your Box" Challenge. She said, "For this project I finally used one of those famous distress inks! I got the pine needles distress ink for my birthday earlier this month and thought it only fitting to create a card for the giver with it. This is fellow DT member Stephanie's graduation card I made for her. I followed the ink application and water spray technique showcased in THIS video by Jennifer McGuire. I enjoyed using the distress ink so much that I've already purchased three more colors and plan to watch the whole series of tutorials for more inspiration. Now my next step will be to use them in my layouts!

Now it's your turn to take the "Get Out of Your Box" Challenge. Just create something that is out of your usual - and submit it to [email protected] for a chance to become a Guest Design Team Member here at Scrap Our Stash. Check out all the details below in May Challenge.
Also, how about accepting the Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge. The sketch can be seen in the side bar or below in the Scrap Our Sketch Challenge post. Just complete your project using the Sketch and submit it to [email protected] for a chance to become a Guest Design Team Member.

Spring Cleaning Challenge

Before by Laurie

Posted by Picasa
Guest Design Team Member Laurie said, "Everyone's photos of their craft spaces made me realize I need to get in on the fun too. Of course, right after I took these photos I spent the entire day cleaning up my little crafty corner. This is the third time since I've taken over this little spot in the living room that I've needed to just stop and clean it back up. Each time I get a few elements right and that helps that particular part of my desk stay fairly organized. This time I enjoyed that my papers were all organized and within easy reach by color for both patterned and solid. The problem areas were my stamps, ribbons, and putting away my scraps once I was done with a project. My goal for this cleanup is to take away the places that I can just leave project remnants in hopes of keeping a clean desk!

Would you like to share your Before pictures. Just check out Special Spring Cleaning Challenge below.

April Guest Design Team Member

Meet another of our Guest Design Team Members for April:

Hello, I'm Laurie Marmon from Mountain View, California. I'm originally a Midwest girl from Iowa but came out here in 2009, the same year I married my best friend. Together we have one furbaby, Hannah, who likes to star in many of our photos and ultimately my scrapbook layouts. I've been scrapbooking since 2003 after accumulating too many good pictures to just be kept on my computer or stuck in albums. I now enjoy expanding my craft skills with a good layout sketch and trying new techniques with stamping. I love putting lots of photos on a layout, the more the better! I definitely have quite a stash, so coming across this Scrap Our Stash blog has been great in making me use what I already have, especially my neglected embellishments. My current project is my honeymoon book for my trip to Peru.

My project: This is a small 8x8 of Hannah that I did recently. I'm making Hannah her own 8x8 book since she has so many cute pictures. This layout uses one of the first pictures I took of her in our new place in California. She instantly took residence on the windowsill in the living room due to its great vantage point in overlooking both what we do and the outside world. I kept the photo the main focus but had a little fun using some of my kitty embellishments I've gathered specifically for her book: the paw print punch and the "Mischief Maker" tag.

Explosion scrapbook by Laurie

"This is a project that I made last year for my boyfriend, now husband, for Valentine's Day. I found a tutorial about explosion scrapbooks online and it looked simple enough to do. I thought this would be a great way to showcase pictures of our dating years, as it would be the last Valentine's Day as a dating couple. Using various papers from my stash and American Crafts rub-on letters, I chose to highlight some of the best qualities I liked about him. I also like that the explosion scrapbook is so easy to store, folds right up to be the same size as a card!
