Rudy Reindeer!

Good morning everyone! Hope you're all well. This week over at Glitter Geeks we have this great digi stamp to share with you! Steph's partner drew Rudy and I must say I'm impressed, he's so sweet isn't he. All you need to do to join in is grab Rudy and make something featuring him. Easy, right? We're sponsored this week by The Cutting Cafe:

I coloured Rudy with Promarkers and then cut him out, popped two die-cut scalloped circles behind him, and added a border strip cut with scallop scissors. I stamped snowflakes directly onto the card blank and embossed with my home-made glitter embossing powder, which didn't really work that well, I think it needed more glitter! I edged the card and circles with some Brushed Corduroy and added a blob of Glossy Accents to Rudy's nose for extra shininess.

Thanks for reading & hope to see you joining in with this week's challenge!

Cards & gifts in one

With Christmas approaching I've been trying to think of gifts I could make rather than buy. Neither of the examples I've come up with so far is actually for Christmas but I'm thinking they could both be adapted to suit fairly easily...

This card & gift is for the birthday of a good friend of mine. I had the idea a while ago to make some puzzle pieces into earrings and I finally bought a puzzle the other day. Ed & I spent quite a while doing the puzzle after I had the supplementary idea of using the surrounding pieces to make a card to present the earrings on, here's how it turned out:

All I did here was cut a wavy line down one side of a piece of blue card, ink the edges with Distress Ink to match the colours of her swimming costume, and spread it with PVA before sliding the bit of jigsaw on and pressing it flat. Once dry I added the earrings in the gaps using a blob of Blutack. Here's a closeup of one earring:

These earrings were really easy to make. I painted the back and sides with black acrylic paint and then varnished the whole piece with two coats of decoupage medium. I used a stapler to make a tiny hole which I then enlarged with a pin, then added a jump ring to attach to the ear wires. I know not everyone would probably wear such weird jewellery, but I would and I have a feeling my dear friend Liz will, too. :)

The other card/gift I've made is a leaving present for a guy at work. He, like me, reads a book at breaktimes and also just like me I've noticed he uses a train ticket or reciept to mark his place, so I decided to make a corner bookmark to go with his card.

I used my new Pumice Stone Distress Ink for this one. The map paper is something I picked up ages ago with leaving or bon voyage cards in mind; the other patterned card is what I made with the nice grey ink, some sequin waste and some water. I stamped the hot air balloon (IndigoBlu) onto tissue and then used some more decoupage medium to stick it to some more distressed card. The ticket stamp is from Lili of the Valley. Here's a closer picture of the bookmark:

I made this with a 3-inch strip of card (made the same as the card for the actual card) which I then folded like a photo corner; on the back I stuck another smaller triangle of card and voila, a corner bookmark. This got a coat of Versamark and some clear embossing powder to seal it and make it more durable.

It's a horrible day here today, very foggy and freezing cold. I think I need to make some more Christmas cards to cheer myself up!

Week 24 - Christmas Shopping

Hi everyone and welcome to another post. Our theme this week at Glitter Geeks is 'Christmas Shopping' - hope you're all where you need to be with the purchasing of gifts!

I've used a super cool digi from our sponsor Kenny K this week. She didn't look like a traditional kind of lass so I went for the good old purple & turquoise combo instead. The paper is a My Mind's Eye one that was free with a magazine, it wasn't quite big enough so I chopped it in half and hid the join with some ribbon. Not much else to say this week, nice straightforward card for once. Hope you'll join us in the challenge :)

You're having a laugh!

Hehe, at least I hope you are, maybe not if you don't share my sense of humour :)

Our challenge this week at Glitter Geeks is a card to raise a laugh or smile - I've used my favourite Christmas joke, which I personally think is hilarious, but I know not everyone agrees on that!

This card was so much fun to make, I especially enjoyed making the joke/punchline spinner part - although having said that, the line of trees wasn't all that exciting! Anyway here's a picture to help you see what I'm wittering about:

It's funny, right? :)
The snowman and tree stamps are from Polkadoodles and the sky and snow papers came from a Forever Friends kit. I used Safmat to do the joke, the font I used is called *[ark] - I got it from dafont.com I think...

Anyway I hope that even if you're not hysterical with laughter over this, hehe, I've inspired you to make us an hilarious card and join in with the challenge, we'd love to see your favourite seasonal joke!

Kraft!

I decided the other day to buy some of these Kraft card blanks that seem to be everywhere, and I'm really glad I did, I like them a lot. So far I think my favourite thing to do with them has been embossing snowflakes on in white, that does make the card buckle a little bit though. I read somewhere that Kraft works well with traditional Christmas colours so to try that out, I made this:

To be honest I'm not all that sure about this, I think there's too much green & not enough Kraft, maybe I should have left a wider border! The stamp is a Woodware one from last year, the paper is from last year too from Papermania. I punched out the lace with my Martha Stewart punch (it really didn't want to go through!) and coloured the tree with Promarkers in Gold, Forest Green and Bright Green and my Chartreuse Flexmarker, there's some Stickles on there too. I sponged the scalloped circle with Distress Ink to make it less bright-white.

I'm entering this card into this week's challenge at Passion for Promarkers, which is Kraft + 1 other colour.

I have a habit of making pairs of cards which are identical apart from the colours - I also made a red version of this card, but I don't think it's worked quite as well because it's hard to get diverse shades of red, I think, some of them look pink. Here's a little picture anyway!

Snuggling up

Hi everyone and happy Friday to all!

Over at Glitter Geeks this week our challenge theme is "Snuggle Up" - now that the colder weather's here it seems a good time for this kind of theme! Our sponsor this week is Digi Web Studio

And here's my DT card!

I bought Papercraft Essentials last weekend - it's not a magazine I normally get but when I saw the awesome Polkadoodles stamps with it, I couldn't resist. I stamped the little girl then masked her off and added the little lad so he seems to be giving her a hug - he actually has a snowball in his other hand as well so she might be getting a cold surprise down the back of her neck later! All coloured with Promarkers as per normal for me! The papers actually just fell out of my scraps box when I moved it, lucky or what! I just added some snowflakes to the green dots for a more Christmassy feel. The ribbon is from Meiflower and the sentiment was from the same stamp set.

Hope you find some inspiration to enter the challenge, we'd love to have you join us!
