Handmade Ornaments from the Sea

A couple weekends ago we were fortunate enough to get the chance to experience a taste of the Christmas Season on Maui.

One early morning we took a walk through the “Whalers Village” shopping center.

rpfh_maui_nov_30_002

I had so much fun window shopping.

rpfh_maui_nov_30_003

I had never been to the Islands around this time of year.

rpfh_maui_nov_30_008

So I was like a child in a candy store.

I was drawing to this pink Christmas tree at a store called “Totally Hawaiian”.

I didn’t even need it to be open to have fun taking pictures of the beautiful handmade ornaments, each sparkling in the early morning sunlight.

There were sand dollars, seashells, and starfish.

All against a beautiful backdrop of pink.

I think my favorite ornament is the Santa with the snorkel.

Which is yours?

A Return from Romance

We returned after midnight last night from our weekend in Maui.

Above you can see our two lounge chairs set up on Sunday  ready for us to relax and enjoy our day bathing in the tropical breeze on a beautiful sunny day.

It was really amazing how much we were able to do over these few short days.

I had the most enjoyable time just soaking up the sites and sounds of the Island.

My husband said even these parrots were holding “claws”.

This is a picture I took while window shopping.  (Our hotel is shown in the reflection.)

On our way to Kapalua, we were lucky enough to see a rainbow.

All of our meals were spent looking at the ocean.

I even took a picture of my breakfast.

(I never thought I would be posting pictures of my breakfast online.)  I couldn’t resist just look at the orchid.

maui 073

Yes, the orchids are everywhere and just breathtaking.

I thought these Hawaiian Teddy Bears were adorable.

We spent many hours just walking along the beach.

We spent one of our evenings watching the sunset going down over Lanai while having dinner at the table on the far left.

The catamarans were a familiar sight off the coast.

I took many more pictures while I was there and I can’t wait to share some more with you so, stay tuned!

Here are some pictures I have taken on my many travels to the Hawaiian Islands.

I cannot wait until I can hear the waves rolling in.

And enjoy the blue waters.

And enjoy the island food;

Back to the Lavender Fields

Today, I feel like returning to the lavender field. (Only in my mind, of course.)

The one on Maui called Ali`i Kula Lavender or “AKL”.

Nestled In the uplands of Maui, along the skirt of Haleakala  which means “House of the Sun”.

I can hear the trickling of water falling from the beautiful fountain while I take in the beautiful view of the Hawaiian coastline below.

I am enveloped in the scent of lavender.  I think I will stay here awhile learning about all the types of lavender one can grow.

“Lavandula x intermedia” is also known as “Dutch” Lavender.

The x means it is a cross with two plants and the intermedia means that these crossed plants have the best qualities of both parents.

I am taking a deep breath and then exhaling slowly trying to remember to remind myself of “this place” during the stressful moments of this week.

Orchids On A Sunday

Today, I feel like going back to Hawaii.
Back to the walkway I take each morning I am there; from my ocean front room to my morning cup of  Kona coffee.

Where the pathway is lined with lush tropical trees.
rpfh08292010004
And where each precious tree holds at least one orchid in it’s palm husk pocket.

The colors are mesmerizing.

With the Hawaiian sun streaming through the leaves.

It illuminates the rich shade of pure color in each lip and petal of the orchid.

Hot purplish pinks along with the vibrant lime greens.

Where a picture you take can turn up an unexpected surprise.

Take a deep breath in and relax my friends.  I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

"Victorian Amethyst" Lavender - Ali'i Garden

Here are more of the many pictures I took of Ali’i Lavender Garden. It is located on Maui.

This view (above) reminds me of being back in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains.

Ali’i Lavender Garden is nestled under the ledge of Haleakala Crater.

A vacant birdhouse waiting for it's next guest to "fly in".   This handmade birdhouse has just as much charm and character as the garden itself.

Lavandula angustifolia ‘Victorian Amethyst’

Purple tufts of lavender colorize the garden slopes and permeate the air with it's sweet fragrance.

Lavender Brownies displayed in the Gift Shop.
