When amputee runners using high-performance prosthetics like Oscar Pistorius demand an upgrade from the status of para-athletes to be accepted as "normal" athletes in the Olympic Games, while being considered, paradoxically, as more-than-human entities by a commonsensical approach because of a supposed edge over bodies without said prosthetics, every rule governing our bodies necessarily change. Following the thoughts on norms and normality studied by Georges Canguilhem in The Normal and The Pathological and also the need to treat the different "grades" of humanity by different sets of rules, according concepts presented by Michel Foucault in The Birth of The Clinic, this paper aims to present, through the example of fictional character Jared Dirac, created by science fiction writer John Scalzi in his trilogy Old Man´s War, the reading of a science fiction narrative as a kind of "user´s guide", in order to propose solutions to impasses which are now beginning to be created by the advent of post-humanity.
