Robert Ellis Orrall - Something To Tell You

Deep album cut. I acquired this lp in one of the huge auction win from a few years ago. What is interesting about the auction wins (2 different in person auctions at the same house and I bought thousands of albums), is that many of the lp's that I ended up keeping in my personal collection were lp's I probably would have never even thought about buying. This is one of them. It is a catchy nearly power pop LP. His later work is apparently quite different from this. He had a pop hit a few years after this and he later became a successful country songwriter and had a few country hits. I will admit I have not heard any of that other than watching a clip of his hit pop single which did nothing for me.

The Chills - The Dragon with the Sapphire Eyes

Todays planned post comes with very sad and devestating news. I found out that Martin Phillipps from the Chills died on Sunday. I have written in previous posts my love for Martin's music. He was not that much older than I am although he had a ton of medical issues related to his past history of drug use. He was able to overcome that dependence and live in sobriety. I also read he and the Chills revisted and were working on early unreleased songs for an upcoming album. I don't know if they finished it but I am hopefull it will be shared with the world.  I have written about the documentary that I had backed and I highly encourage you to watch it. I had received this 45 in the mail last week and was thrilled to finally get a copy. I am pretty sure Submarine Bells will be on my playlist all week long. RIP Martin Phillipps

Bruce Johnson - Surfin Round The World

Another cool and interesting pick up from this year. Would love to see what the complete package actually looked like. What is cool about this one is that Bob Dylan and Dave Clark Five are on the b side. Bruce was previously featured on this blog as Bruce & Terry,

Charles T. Cofer - My Heart I Gave To Jesus

I had a wonderful morning yesterday digging through boxes of vinyl from a closed record store. As expected, there were tons of gospel 45s and I believe I bought them all..I was tired when I got home so I ended up not recording anything and just sorting through the slabs of vinyl. Most of the 45s were old store stock going back to the 60's. But I was able to find this killer song on the circuit box that I recorded back in December. I really need to organize the files I have yet to upload.  I've had issues with not being able to look at Jpeg pictures on my computer and a google search help me resolve it (although to be honest, I am not really sure what I really did to fix it)

Unrelated Segments - Cry, Cry, Cry / It's Not Fair

Saturday Garage and Psych with a bang...I mean a BANG. A Garage Monster. I paid more than I would have liked for this but I still think I got a good deal. I'm pretty sure this is not the correct Liberty sleeve but its one of my favorite Liberty variations. I now have all 3 Unrelated Segments 45's. I was sure I had uploaded at least one of their other 45s..I guess that is a project for another day

Lightnin Slim - Rooster Blues / G.I. Slim

Happy Friday. This slab came from the closed record store haul from earlier this year. That store closed in 1972 and the person had them in storage all these years until I got my hands on them. I also want to say I can't wait for tomorrow. I have lined up going back to dig in the stock of another record store that closed in 2008. They had a ton of gospel 45's and I can't wait to get my mitts on them

The Five Fabulous Demons - You'd Better Come Home / Yeah, Since You Went Away

Cooper and I managed to get our walk in before the downpour this morning. The rain is most welcome, especially to my pepper and tomatoe plants. I nearly went indie this morning but I did a complete turnaround and went doowop/R&B. Killer 45 I picked up in Tennessee on vacation earlier this month

Spiritualized - So Long You Pretty Thing

I present to you on this Wednesday Album cut the wonderful sound of Spiritualized . I love the huge sound and especially the 7 plus minutes of this song. My friend Craig turned me on to Spaceman 3 and then Spiritualized back when I lived in Denver and I am eternally thankful

Huey (Piano) Smith & The Clowns - Snag A Tooth Jeannie / Don't Knock It

I love those old style Imperial sleeves and they look particularly nice with a white label promo. I picked this up this year

The Crowns - Watch Out/ Possibility

This is an interesting 45. Watcho out is surf sounding while Possibility is Doo Wop.

John Coltrane - Stardust

I have no gospel 45s ready. So I thought, how about his relaxing Coltrane 45 and it is perfect for this Sunday Morning. I love the diversity of Coltrane. He can be relaxing and he can be abrasive. My favorite of his might be Ballads. I remember buying a copy at a yardsale on CD for $1 and enjoying the calmness...later while going through some LP boxes at home, I found I had a copy on vinyl I didn't even know I had. I have a friend who dispises Coltrane and anytime he gets one he gives it to me. I happily accept it

The Roulettes - Soon You'll Be Leaving Me / Can You Go

Sometimes I have a dynamic memory...I can tell you where I bought something and how much I paid for it. Other times (like today), I have no bloody idea where or when I bought this. I  believe it was sometime this year but I have no clue. The only thing I do know is I am glad I bought it.

I have a busy day planned but hope to record a few things to the old circuit box

The Dells - Oh What A Day

The Dells have a few songs that are classics. I see Dells 45s all the time and rarely buy them. I am not sure where I picked this up at but has a summer slide groove to me. This one barely missed the billboard Top 40

The Godfathers - Birth, School, Work, Death

I think the title says it all. I remember this was all over the radio station I listened to back in 1987. I've probably had this for ages.

The Knack - Another Lousy Day In Paradise

Deep Album Cut Wednesday. I always liked the Knack. Their 3rd dented the Billboard charts and was pretty much panned. I don't know why...it has everything you expect from the Knack. I think they suffered due to their fantastic debut lp and how huge it was, But those first 3 lp's are powerpop classics in my mind. They had one minor chart hit off this lp and they did make a fantastic video to this standout track. They broke up not long after for awhile but never achieved the success I think they deserved. We lost Doug years ago

The Nightcrawlers - My Butterfly

The previous month was pretty much planned out but I am struggling to figure out what to post. I have plenty recorded to choose from. I guess going on vacation was a motivation to plan out posts so I did not have to think about it much. Anyway, The Nightcrawlers had one notable 45 that has been comped but this was a good one that reminded me of the Little Black Egg

Arthur Lee and the L.A.G's - The Ninth Wave / Rumble Still Skins

Picked this one up in Tennessee a few weeks ago. Pre Arthur Lee LOVE and it is in my surf discography but I am not sure if I would classify this as surf and not as notable in my opinion as the stuff he did with LOVE.

The Harrison Gospel Singers- A Charge To Keep

Cover version week went well I think. I left some on the table so to speak so I am prepared for a part time in the future. This one was a little rough but it was so good I could not resist uploading it.
