Happy New Year
Happy New Year. I have been away from this blog and hope to get back to a few more frequent posts in the upcoming year. I do have some news. I have decided to start selling records from my collection beginning 2018 and will provide more information once I start. Again, Happy New Year to all

Wayne County & The Backstreet Boys - Max's Kansas City
I've been preoccupied with summer activities but did I pick this up a few months ago. I recently read an autobiography by Marky Ramone and learned he was in this band early on before the Ramones. This has been on my want list for years. I believe this is a 1st pressing.

Beach Boys - Let Him Run Wild
Ok, no excuses..I've been lazy. Thought I would post something just to let those few of you that periodically check this blog out that I am still breathing. Thought I would post one of my faves from the boys from the beach.

Velvet Underground - Sunday Morning
It would be grand to have an original copy of this. But alas, I have to enjoy my reissue copy that came in the Sundazed 45 box set. I find it interesting that the thought at the time was this could be a "successful single", however, obviously Verve had no faith in it as it extremely limited by nature. It is interesting to note that I have [or have had] in my collection copies of Verve 10459 through Verve 10467 but never 10466 [this single] or 10458 (The Mothers of Invention). Matter of fact, it is not uncommon for me to see some of those in my travels. But never 10466 or 10458. A successful single was never seriously considered. And if you think about Verve as a label, they were venturing outside their comfort zone with bands like VU and Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. Verve was built on Jazz and Easy Listening. Around 1965, they started testing the the commercial waters venturing into soul and rock and roll. While they would have some 45 single success ( Righteous Brothers, Howard Tate), for the most they had more success with albums.
"Lou Reed wrote this on a Sunday Morning around 6am. Andy Warhol, who helped finance the album, suggested he write a song about the paranoia associated with the effects of a drug wearing off. Reed wrote this for Nico but then decided not to let the German ex-model sing it. Instead he impersonated her himself. In The Velvet Underground: An Illustrated History of a Walk on the Wild Side, it is reported that Nico thought of this uncharacteristically upbeat tune as "Sun Day Mourning." It tells you a bit about how Nico's mind worked, and also the split that The Velvet Underground would have with Nico and her mentor Andy Warhol. This song is all about last-minute changes. The inclusion of the track on their first album was literally penciled in, Reed decided to take over vocals at the last minute as they walked into the studio to record it, and John Cale noticed a celesta in the studio and decided to include the instrument for the song on the spot. Cale also played the viola on the song."{taken from http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=6079]

Screaming Trees- Time Speaks Her Golden Tongue
I've had the opportunity to watch some music documentaries over the past weekend on Amazon and I've enjoyed everyone one of them- one on the Residents, one on The Knack, one on Sun Ra. Highly recommended!
It seems like there are quite a bit classic reunions going on. I read Dream Syndicate will be putting out a new LP, The Feelies put one out in February. The Chills had a RSD 45, the Afghan Whigs have a new one on Sub Pop [recommended]. Scott Miller & Game Theory will have a Posthumous release soon [my pre-ordered copy should arrive in a few months thank you very much]. So it's tie for the Screaming Trees, time to get on the band wagon. Of course I doubt that will ultimately happen, but we can always ask. I remember when I first picked up this classic [double black vinyl] right when it was released. What a front cover. And the songs were killer. I later picked up a copies on white vinyl and then of course the nearly impossible to find red vinyl [rumored to be band copies and limited to 60 copies]. Of course I'm not in the band but I did luck into a copy. Happy Mother's Day and Happy Sub Pop Sunday

Leopards - Psychedelic Boy
I bought this years ago from BOMP mail order. I eventually sold it or traded it. That always bugged me a bit so I searched out for another copy and recently found one. I used to see this all the time but of course that was when I did not want a copy. Things seem to dry up when you want it. This copy comes with the insert and nice VOXX sleeve. The LP that this came from is on my listening rotation.

Afghan Whigs - Come See About Me
I have been away from having a Sub Pop night. Here is a classic cover version from the Afghan Whigs with their video as well. They have a new album coming out in a few months. I pre-ordered my copy last week.

Reverend Cleophus Robinson - He's Done Great Things
I went to Raleigh today for a Record show but came away with little to show for it. There were few people with 45's and some people had ridiculous prices on regular thrift store stock 45's you can find for a nickle. You might say the most enjoyable part of my morning was the banana bread and Starbucks coffee. So I sit here relaxing before I hit the mattress and enjoy the good Reverend. I picked this up a few weeks ago on my little spree.

The Other Half - Mr. Pharmacist
The big complaint is time. I just don't have time to record and scan to this blog as much as I would like. I don't even have the time to search for records as I have in the past. But that being said, I did take yesterday off and hit my favorite little record spot. I found some interesting things but scored one major find that I have been on the prowl for over the years. It is finds like this that makes it all worth while.

Paul Kelly - Forty Miles to Saturday Night
There does not seem to be enough time to record 45's and thus this blog suffers. But I am rewarding patience with a treat. Paul Kelly is a treasure! Of course Paul Kelly changed the name of his group to a more politically correct name [the "Messangers"].and then later went solo. He continues to be very active. I found a video on Youtube when Paul had hair!

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Afro
I saw the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion in a small club in Denver right after this song was released. They played with such energy which I thought was absolutely amazing because there were only about 50 people who showed up. Afterwards Jon sat at the bar with a beer and was accessible to all. So, close your eyes and imagine the following fantasy. President elect Trump is having his inaugural get together and the stage is empty. The blues explosion walk on stage, plug in and Jon starts his wailing and they blow the roof off the dump while the president elect has this sickening horrified look on his face. Welcome to 2017!
