What ... where ... when ...

Hey there!
With a nod to my long-ago journalism goals, here's a glance at the days of our lives.

What?
Well, one of us is happy (heh-heh)!

Where?
The other day we ventured west to a part of Alabama we'd never been.  There, on historic Broad street, a structure Time seemed to have forgotten.  Built in 1832, it boasted 12' ceilings, 3 fireplaces.
Due to neglect, however, the rooms were dirty, the outbuildings decaying.  Watching where we stepped and dodging cobwebs, we didn't linger.

Still, there's something about old Southern homes that tugs at my imagination.

Approaching the lunch hour, Tom gave me a choice:  Mexican? Olive Garden? Long Horn?  No question, I'd been craving a nice piece of salmon.

One for the Joy journal!   Our fav waitress not only had an open table but weeks after we'd last visited, V. even remembered what we usually order!  Solicitous without being condescending, she made my day!

When?

A little later this evening:  From the Test Kitchen, I'm trying a new-to-me recipe for French Onion meatloaf.
I caramelized a big old pot-full of onions earlier and grated a block of Gruyere.  Golly!  Never mind I can't even pronounce it, if I'd known how much that cost, we'd be eating another version.  Oh well  ... new year, new to me!

Why?

Still hoping to discover my Purpose (word of the year).  Look what I found in my new Max Lucado 2025 Devotional!

Just perhaps, like in Field of Dreams -- if I put it out there, it (the answer) will come.

... and how?

With a little help from my friends!
(That's you!)

I hope y'all enjoy an awesome week!

Hugs, Myra

  1. Purpose is a great word for the year ahead, Myra. I'll be revealing mine on Tuesday. Yes, we're seeing the possibility for snow here on Friday, too, and will have to make sure we're stocked up before that happens. We literally cannot get out of our steep driveway for love nor money if it's the least bit slick. And, we're supposed to sing this coming Sunday at church. We will see what the week brings.
I hope your week is wonderful, too!

  2. What? No pictures of the grand old structure time seemed to have forgotten? Now you have my curiosity running wild! Don't you know I LOVE places like that? Maybe you need to go back and take some pictures just for me! LOL. But be careful where you step, of course! We watch a lot of those abandoned homes programs on YouTube, so I love exploring such places, even if from my recliner. Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but inside it's so delightful...let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! No snow here in sight, but it will be pretty chilly here as well. We have a freeze warning for tonight. Purpose is a great word...even at our great age, we still need to have a purpose, and if we seek, we will find. God will show us the way He wants us to go and what He wants us to do. So you are on the right track! I hope you have a safe and cozy week.

    1. You know, with all the 'bargain hunters' it never occurred to me to take pictures. Here's the real estate listing, but what I saw (inside) bears absolutely no resemblance to the photographs.

  3. Purpose is a great word...We all need purpose don't we? Now, I am hungry a blackened salmon. Sounds so good right now. of course, I just put on a big pot of soup for the cold weather. I often wonder about old abandoned homes...I love going inside and just imagining the furniture and the people that once lived there. Stay warm! big hugs.

  4. It is great when you get a great waitress! I like your word, purpose, and I'm feeling mindful about it (teehee). Love you! Have a blessed week ahead!

  5. Seems like the only 'purpose' I have now is to drink as much coffee as possible during the day and possibly get some toolin' around in the countryside in while snapping digital photos to put in an album that no one else will ever care about. One must have goals, you know. *giggle*
Now I want some more Wild West Shrimp from Long Horns. That is a weakness of mine.
I'm going to look up the property. I am a Nosy Parker and love, love, love to look at architecture (and places For Sale).
    Blessings. ✨

  6. I am trying to decide if you got salmon at Olive Garden or Longhorn. lol Sounded good though.
It's going to get cold here too girl. Maybe some ice.
I've never made onion soup - was it good?
And lastly - purpose - and your first page of your book said - BE ABOUT HIS BUSINESS - maybe you got an answer...

    1. I've had it at both places, but the clear winner is Long Horn.

  7. Please let us know how it goes with finding your purpose. I agree it's so important, especially nowadays. ❤️

  8. I agree, we all have a purpose in life. Why not ask God what it is?

I also agree, Gruyere is expensive. But I like your posts here more.

    God bless.

    1. That's the best idea; I've done so already this morning.
PS - Not only expensive, but we found it really, really bland.

  9. for years, we had a favorite waitress at our Duff Buffet. We always sat at her tables, I fully understand how you feel about yours. She made our lunch so pleasant, never failed to. Bob even broke out his jokester side when she was there.
I can truthly say, I have never been in an old house and did not even think of taking photos... I would love to wander inside and old house.
glad you found your word.. mine is Patience and so far I have had none... today is day 6, we will see what happens, I already lost it at 4 am. ha ha ha ha ha

  10. Glad you went out on an adventure. Also nice that you had your favorite waitress when you went out to eat. So did the meatloaf taste good? I haven't chosen a word yet. Hope you have a wonderful week.

    1. Well, it didn't taste awful ... but was very bland; even hubby said something. One and done!

  11. I have already failed at my word for the year..maybe it wasn't the right one. I must persist and find out what it is...
I love when there is a regular waitperson that remembers us. We have one at our local grill. Hadn't been in there in 3 months and she remembered everything that I order for my omelet breakfast. I really was shocked. She always gets a nice tip too.
