I want to stop our edition war : what labels do you want to change ? (i promise i will change^^) --Niridya (Diskussion) 23:12, 1. Nov. 2018 (MEZ)
d:Q20026619 - in general:
- Label : USB-C
- Alias 1 : USB Type-C
- Alias additional : some have local names
Exception Turkish, French, Bulgarian, Punjabi, Arabic. 77.0.218.248 22:32, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
- Do you agree if I do this only for languages having a Wikipedia article ? --Niridya (talk) 22:37, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
- Done for languages having a Wikipedia page about USB-C. :D You can see changes here. --Niridya (talk) 22:43, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
- I am waiting for your answer for other languages. --Niridya (talk) 22:44, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
- Merci beaucoup. If for all languages that have a WP-article the most common name is "USB-C", then the likelihood for the other languages to also have "USB-C" more commonly used than "USB Type-C" is larger than 50%. So, it should also be done for other languages. Example: "USB-C" is perfect German, "USB Type-C" is not, it is tech-English. 77.0.218.248 23:11, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
- You're right. I wanted to rename on all Wikipedias to USB Type-C because it is the technical name.
- Done I changed labels and aliases in all languages except Wikipedias using USB Type-C. --Niridya (talk) 23:25, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
- We both wanted and want consistency. 77.0.218.248 00:08, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

- I saw you work well to classify all types of USB port. Thanks!
- In goal to be easier to talk with you and to be able to notify you, I think you should create an account. If you do this you will get more rights (like renaming right, be able to edit semi protected pages...) --Niridya (talk) 11:42, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- I can work fine without account. After NSA scandal I avoid to create accounts with sites that track users and create hidden profiles of them. I have been told WMF hiddenly stores device related information. No interest in that. 92.227.91.65 13:32, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- I know the NSA scandal, but I don't think Wikimedia collect others informations except the law forces them to collect. I know that this we call non public data is accessible for ChechUsers but data is deleted after 90 days.
- Also, I Wikimedia is a non-profit organization, so I have more confidence than companies that make profit. --Niridya (talk) 13:45, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- I heard 180 days, and also that they have additional wikis where they store more. And the people that are paid by WMF of course make profit. Editors work for free and some other people get money. Interesting business concept. And people that travel to conferences get money too for the travel. 92.227.91.65 13:49, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- That's true but I think all this money come from donations (majoritary of non wikipedians). --Niridya (talk) 14:09, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Some would maybe not donate, if the would know how the money is spend. Also, "non-profits" don't pay VAT. But if they make no profit, they would not pay that anyway - so why do they have this extra label "non-profit"? 2.243.67.204 15:39, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

You added new aliases for English and French [1]. But the item is not only about connectors. Also the Mongolian "залгуур" is wrong. 2.243.67.204 16:56, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
USB-C Wikipedia

[edit]Could you go to https://lv.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=USB-C&redirect=no and ask for deletion, with the reason: "undo my edit / misunderstanding". 2.243.67.204 15:57, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Why do you want to delete the redirect ? It doesn't pose a problem. --Niridya (talk) 17:21, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- If it is deleted, you could move the page back to the name that was used by the article creator. 78.49.222.226 18:06, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- I will do this but I got a question : was it you the article creator ? (because it was an IP user too) :p --Niridya (talk) 20:40, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Why would that be important? Would that be a reason against "USB-C"? 77.14.112.134 21:50, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Not at all, that was juste a question. :D --Niridya (talk) 22:39, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

[edit]The article (not created by IP) in the text has USB-C everywhere except first mention [2]. If it is moved it would be more consistent with the content. 77.14.112.134 22:05, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- I don't know if it's a good idea because the creator created the page with USB Type-C. Don't hesitate to ask the author for renaming ! --Niridya (talk) 13:06, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
- It was not on the talk. But on user talk 2010-10-20T19:52 UTC: "No problem, very good". Now copied to article talk [3]. Could you do it? 92.231.177.90 20:28, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
- If you move you could use the diff from the user talk page of the article creator as reference [4] 92.231.177.90 21:36, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
- I tried but this Wikipedia says to me that I am too new to rename a page (they surely set a minimum nomber of edits). :( --Niridya (talk) 22:21, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
- Add icon for receptacle. One edit. You soon have 20, maybe that is the limit. If it is 50, it is too much. 92.231.177.90 22:43, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
- It is written that I need a 4 days old account and 10 edits to be able to move, in theory. But I still can't move the page... --Niridya (talk) 20:41, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- I heard of a combination of time and edits. Where did you find it? In article space you have only one edit that is not minor. 77.180.195.77 20:42, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, it may be this the problem... You should ask to their Village pump. --Niridya (talk) 19:46, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

- You can ask for undeletion to the admin who deleted the page (I sent you his name on my talk page in french Wikipedia). I don't know if he will accept because sending statistics because like this is called POV pusing and it violate on of the Five pillars. It's also for the same reason that I tried to revert some of your edits (because it's one of the most used way to vandalize^^). --Niridya (talk) 19:39, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

USB-C universe
[edit]The USB-C universe consists of
- specifications
- hardware (cable, connectors [subclass: plug(male), subclass receptacle(female)], controller?, devices (e.g. consumer products))
- software (controller?)
- media about USB-C
- specifications
- articles about USB-C
- illustrations (e.g. pinout)
92.227.91.65 13:45, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, it's ture. About this, I made some changes about Wikidata elements related to USB (and Type-X ports) to make harmonization. Some months ago, I also tried to clean and organize categories. Is it good ? --Niridya (talk) 13:48, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- I saw your work on commons. Some things I liked, some not. I didn't like the removal of the pinouts. E.g. File:USB Type-C.svg is in USB pinouts, but not longer under USB-C. 92.227.91.65 13:53, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- If you prefer that pinouts are categorized in USB Type-X category, I can do this. I am not sure but I think that changing category is allowed to unregistered users. --Niridya (talk) 14:07, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- No, logged out cannot. For your interest: c:Category:Electrical connectors - divided into plugs and sockets. HDMI uses male/female. USB instead of socket uses receptacle. But at least the categories are there. I don't know what name is the best. English native tech specialist could be helpful. 2.243.67.204 15:41, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Regarding the pinouts - I put some in "USB Type-C" but maybe they should go deeper into C/plug or C/receptacle. 2.243.67.204 15:43, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- I am not English, so I don't know if socket is better than receptacle. I only know that it's always writtent on the processors descriptions socket.
- I will look at your work about categories, but it seems be good work. --Niridya (talk) 17:25, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

USB-C and USB-C connector
[edit]Hi 78.49.222.226,
I saw you reverted my edit on this element. I agree with you point of view (each USB Type-X has USB Type-X plug ans USB Type-X receptacle). But I have a question : why do you think USB-C is not about USB-C plugs and receptacles, because articles talk about the two aspects.
Now we got :
I think it is better to have (it is this we got for USB Type-A and Type-B) :
What do you think ? --Niridya (talk) 21:16, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- See above "USB-C universe". Apart from connectors there are other things. The three C's https://www.google.com/search?q=usb-c+cable+connector+controller , but also Alternate Mode ... Not much content in "USB-C connector" in Commons and Wikidata, but helpful for organisation, e.g. in Commons there is c:category:Electrical connectors. There can also be several specifications, I think I saw 1.0 and 1.1. IIRC there is also a spec for usage in industry with screws to prevent disconnection. "USB-C" is the general topic. 77.14.112.134 21:46, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- You mean that USB-C articles cover more things than just connectors ? If it's this, that's true. --Niridya (talk) 22:41, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, and the item is about more than the connectors. 77.14.94.47 02:27, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- It may be a good idea to have this but I think it is not very obvious. --Niridya (talk) 13:47, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
