Thank You

[edit]

I wanted to personally thank you for your help with nb translations and proposed messages during the fundraiser. I appreciate the work you put in, and we couldn't have done it without you. Thanks again - Deniz (WMF) 21:53, 26 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks & help

[edit]

Hi Jon. Thanks for your recent cleaning up of at Wikipedia Basa Banyumasan (map-bms:). Could I ask you for another help? This page Wikipedia:Dopokan‎ is the counterpart of Village pump at en:, so it should be put on the sidebar menu of our Wikipedia Basa Banyumasan. I would appreciate it if you could help us on this. Thanks in advance, XoXo 10:02, 4 March 2011 (UTC) (from Wikipedia Basa Banyumasan)Reply

No problem. I replaced the link to "current events", as it was not in use for anything, and therefore unnecessary. The current events thing is not really being actively used by many Wikipedias, and would especially require a lot of maintenance on smaller Wikipedias, so I don't see it as useful. If however you want it back, just tell me. :-) Jon Harald Søby 14:04, 4 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again Jon, I think the link is good as it is. Regards, XoXo 04:47, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

2011 Board Elections translations in lb

[edit]

Hi Jon Harald Søby,

Thanks for the message on lb:Benotzer_Diskussioun:Robby#2011_Board_Elections. Indeed I've just started a little on the translations as indeed when I saw them first I was frustrated about the fact that all the messages used in 2009 have to be retranslated respectivly copy pasted from the previous translation.

I will try to go on with the translations by now but I'mnot sure about when I might be able to finish them. I will try to convince other users to give me a little bit of help on this.

I really hope that for the next elections the people in charge of the election will find a way tomake the translations of the neede messages easier. I really cannot understand why it is not possible to use translatewiki for this.

Best regards

--Robby 16:47, 30 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for your efforts! We have done everything we can to make sure things can be reused. Translatewiki is not really suitable for long pages of text such as this, and the process would still have been pretty much just the same there, so I don't think there's anything we could have done differently. Anyways, thanks again. :-) Jon Harald Søby 10:08, 2 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Candidate Presentations Deleted

[edit]

Hi- I am a candidate for the board and noticed that my candidate presentation (and a number of others) was deleted. Is there a reason for this? Mrmewe 02:23, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hoax-candidate (?) + translation

[edit]

Hi Mr. Søby.

Today I stumbled upon our candidate page and I noticed the strange candidate subscription there. This "candidate" doesn't seem so legitimate to me (age:56, born in 1998... and some more). Also I can't seem to find his profile (not on Meta and not on nl.wiki), so I suspect this being a hoax. Also another question: do the candidate subscriptions need to be put on the English page? Or can they also be put on the mother-tongue-page and from there be translated to english?

As for the translation, when do we know if a user is announced elegible? So we can start translating the subscriptions... Greetings!

Kthoelen 11:26, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I didn't even check the history (stupid); the subscription was made by User talk:Stichting Rokersbelangen - this is a company/institute by the name of it, so I'm pretty sure this is a fake one. Can this just be reverted? - Kthoelen 11:30, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
P.S.: another thing (I keep bothering you :-) ): is it possible to put on the english page a template of some sort to announce that the candidate is elegible? Or is the "This user has been identified to the Wikimedia Foundation." -template also a sign of elegibility? Greetings, Kthoelen 14:42, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
It has already been removed I see. Yes, a way of identifying confirmed eligible candidates would be good. Maybe as an addition to the identified templated, since that is required for all eligible candidates anyways. Jon Harald Søby 16:15, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and yeah, there's no rule against announcing the candidate in a different language first, but it should be translated to English as well of course (and then to all other languages, ideally). Jon Harald Søby 16:16, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
OK (I removed the thing myself by the way, because I was 99% sure it was a hoax). The problem with the confirmation is that the mailing list always takes some time to reach everybody, and so that also people who aren't subscribed to the list are willing to translate (for example, I put a additional request in our village pump on nlwiki but I had to say: you can only translate that 4 because...). The addition to the identified template would do very nicely :-) - Greetings, Kthoelen 16:24, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

done. I wasn't sure where to put the link, so I came here. Any idea? Matanya 00:17, 8 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, we're gonna restrict the banner to logged-in users tomorrow. A lot of non-high-intensity users have a tendancy to log in to make their edits, then log out again. We're running it for everyone for two days to make sure that most of these will be aware of it as well. Jon Harald Søby 07:41, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

This was a lovely idea, btw. SJ talk | translate   05:46, 9 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
:-) I agree! Admittedly it wasn't my idea, I think it was Philippe's. Jon Harald Søby 12:39, 9 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I've added you name here. Please check your details there (the babel, IRC nick, and active from section), and include if any of the information is not included yet or added wrongfully. Thanks for your help. — Tanvir | Talk ] 08:18, 13 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Withdrawal

[edit]

Hi- I realized that I do not have the time to commit to the candidacy for the Board of Trustees. Please remove my name from the candidate roster. Thanks. Mrmewe 15:16, 13 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Board election page

[edit]

Hi Jon, 'How to submit your candidacy' heading [1]on the board election page links to this template [2]. Possible candidates have been editing the the template itself in order to submit their candidacy, after clicking on 'Write a brief summary'. We have reverted the good faith edits and protected the template to auto-confirmed, it might be worth considering to remove the internal link to the template from the board election page, and clarifying further to only use the template for reference. Thanks Theo10011 18:12, 20 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

CentralNotice banners

[edit]

Please do not recycle old CentralNotice banners. CentralNotice has been significantly rewritten in the past year or so and old banners that have lots of cruft from the old system will cause problems.[3] Please either follow the CentralNotice documentation or copy a banner that is less than 2 years old. Thanks! Kaldari 17:09, 3 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

The board elections banners and Wikimania ones were actually purposely created and designed so that they could be recycled from year-to-year (translations can be reused, etc.). We should update those banners to match the new system rather than just stop using them. Cbrown1023 talk 13:50, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Election Officials

[edit]

Hello Jon. As election coordinator I wish to notify you I've removed Ral315's and Abbasjnr's temporary sysop tools as the Board Elections are over. Notwithstanding should the comitee would need the tools for more days, please poke me and I'll restore them for the appropiate period. Regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 10:19, 18 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Anatomized Ballots

[edit]

Now that the next election/poll is next month, there's a certain time pressure to learn from the last one. Do you have any word on when that file will be available? All they have to is delete the voter names, scramble the vote order, and post the file. 3500 short strings of data, nothing huge.

But someone at one of the other project has a "draggable interface system" we could probably use in time if we want. This poll may not involve ranking, or it might-- but the sooner we learn about the last election, the better. Indeed, since we re-elected the incumbents, the parttern's in this year's data are going to be pretty simple to verify. :) ---Alecmconroy 15:00, 2 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
