Project idea

[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

[edit]

Increase the number of women's biographies which appear in the DYK section.

What is your solution?

[edit]

Collaborate with the DYK Project; describe the issue and brainstorm for solutions. Analyze the DYK statistics for patterns. Make the issue known widely on Wikipedia at Wikimedia (including at the chapter level), and Wikimania. Advertise everywhere possible a drive to increase creation and expansion of women's biographies in general, and nominating those which meet criteria at the DYK Project. Collaborate with the Ambassador program to develop a translation project at universities as there are many reliably-sourced women's biographies on other language Wikipedias which haven't been translated yet to the English language. Host edit-a-thons around the world during a city's literature/writing festival, encouraging the creation of women's biographies, and nominating the ones which meet the criteria at DYK.

I think that this proposal fits in nicely with the Inspire:Gender Gap campaign. We need figure out more details but the idea is sound. --Sydney Poore/FloNight (talk) 21:53, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

Endorsements

[edit]
  • Good idea. Easily scalable to multiple projects (why not feature works by female writers on Wikisource as well, for example?) and a good way to promote high-quality articles about women. However, I think that translations should be not only into English, but also from English to other languages, in order to promote the project to as many communities as possible — NickK (talk) 01:22, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Endorse both original proposal and NickK's expansion of the idea. Wordreader (talk) 06:04, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I often ask me (and others), why there are so much more men died than women - it looks like that in the german Wikipedia but I don`t believe it. It´s a constructive beginning to change the goal on this way. FCT Berlin=>?! • 18:07, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
