After graduating from Erzurum Atatürk University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, he started working at the Islamic Research Center in Istanbul in 1987. He started his postgraduate education in the Department of Islamic History and Arts at Marmara University in 1990. He wrote articles on the history of Islam and music for the Islamic Encyclopedia. In 1994, upon the invitation of Prof. Yalçın Tura, he became a faculty member at the Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music Conservatory Musicology Department. In 1997, he completed his doctorate in Islamic history and arts at Uludağ University. At the Turkish Music Conservatory, he turned to Turkish musicology with the encouragement of Yalçın Tura, Fikret Kutluğ, Haydar Sanal, and Selahattin İçli. His work Musicology and Its Sources (2006) was used as a textbook in various conservatories. In 2011, he founded the Ankara Gazi University TMDK Musicology Department and served as the department head (2011-2016). His project “Music in Seljuk Lands”, which he developed with the “reconstruction / recreation” musicology method, was represented with a concert at the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Turkey (2013). In the same year, he received the “Music Writer of the Year” award from the Ministry of Culture and the Turkish Music Foundation of the Republic of Turkey. While working at the Department of Musicology at Istanbul Medeniyet University, where he was invited in 2016, he became an Associate Professor in 2019 and a Professor in 2024.
