Colorway

Last night I finished stitching down the binding on "Colorway" - another Thimble Blossoms design made with Bonnie and Camille fabrics as well as white/black spot background fabric I bought in Singapore last year.  The quilt was cut out in November last year and the blocks were sewn together last month.

The backing is a favourite red strawberry print from Bonnie and Camille's "Hello Darling" range and I used the same fabric for the binding.

I think I like the colours in this block best.

I made up one "Wish Upon a Star" block to see how it all went together.  It's a big block - finishing at 18" and it's lovely to work with some larger pieces of fabric for a change.

Over the last few weeks, I've been thinking about making some more Scrappy Log Cabin blocks.  According to Instagram I last worked on these blocks on 16 April 2016.

Yesterday I took out the Scrappy Log Cabin scrap boxes and found another 15 blocks that had been cut into 4 and were half-made.  The purple box is now empty but there is a chest of drawers in The Pink Room with three drawers full of scraps - I'm thinking about starting another Scrappy Spiderweb quilt.

Each block has the large red spot fabric at the centre and the same fabric will be used for setting triangles at the outer edges with white pin dots on red for posts in the sashings.  I'm going to undo these few blocks and use narrower sashings and smaller red squares.

ChaCha had a sleepover with Nanna on Friday night then on Saturday morning we picked up GG and went to Sydney to spend some time with Michael and Gulliver.  The little ones had a great time at the park.  Visited some friends on the way home and then Mum and I had dinner with Elizabeth, Matt and ChaCha - a terrific day.

Summerville

After making "Medley", I wanted to make another medallion quilt - I love how they go together once all the parts are made.  "Summerville" is a medallion quilt designed by Thimble Blossoms and I've used the same fabric ("Vintage Picnic") as in the original quilt with one navy blue added from another of Bonnie and Camille's ranges.   Not very often that I use the same fabrics but I had enough in my stash.

Stitched down the binding while watching lots of tv on Friday night.

The quilting design is called "Party Streamers" - another great design Karen found for me.

I love the backing fabric - it's such a pretty colour.

Most of Saturday was taken up with yukky housework etc and then family and a friend came over for dinner.  On Sunday the rain was back and it's been so terrible in Queensland and northern NSW (many of my friends have been house-bound for days) - I pretty much sewed all day and finished putting together the "Pretty Petals" quilt top.  Not a great night-time photo of the lovely colours in these FigTree fabrics.  I was so happy to be able to make this quilt completely from my stash.

The background is actually a very pale pink on off-white.

Karen spent yesterday afternoon quilting "Colorway" - chose "Party Streamers" again for the quilting.

Not sure what I'll work on next.

Quilt Tops

Busy, busy few days and lots of fun times with my little sweethearts and bigger sweethearts as well as stitching with the girls and a friend's birthday dinner.

Finally put "Colorway" together and the backing is made ready to give to Karen for quilting.

Jenni asked me to make a cot quilt for her friend's new baby boy.  I love the colours in these "Mixed Bag" fabrics and I've used a white spot on white for the background.

I'm making Thimble Blossoms' "Little Star" quilt pattern.  These fabrics are very busy - I think the white sashings will "calm down" the overall look. All the blocks are made and I hope to have the top together tomorrow night.

Think I'll have to make a full-size version of this quilt to use up some of my Bonnie and Camille stash one day.

Looking forward to starting "Takes the Cake" with the black cross-weave background soon.

The Crown

I was able to spend a fair bit of time with Miss ChaCha last week and she came for a sleepover on Friday night - always fun especially when Jenni is also home for a visit.

ChaCha and I had a busy Saturday morning shopping and visiting friends.  I bought a new smart tv for the sewing room.  At the moment it is set up in the bedroom until an antenna point is installed in the sewing room.  Such a luxury sitting up on the bed watching episodes of "The Crown" - fabulous show.  Even had Mum watching a few episodes on Sunday afternoon.

I've spent my sewing time pinning "Colorway" block sections

sewing a few sections together

and making a few flowers for the next "Medley" border.

Received a photo from Karen  showing quilting progress on "Hopscotch" - hoping to pick this up tonight.  I love Orange Peel quilting.

Last night Tania, a work colleague, and I went to the Rob Guest Endowment grand final concert at the Lyric Theatre - such a great night showcasing new talent and wonderful guest artists.

Thought I was really clever - the finalists performed "I Hope I Get It" from "A Chorus Line" as the opening to the concert and I picked the winner before I'd even heard him sing on his own.  Paulini sang "I Have Nothing", Whitney Houston's song from the new show "The Bodyguard" - absolutely stunning.

Stitching tonight, a few other things on this week and a busy weekend coming up - lunch with The Schoolgirls on Saturday, lunch with other friends on Sunday plus a basketball game.  Need to find some time to start my secret Christmas sewing.

Fig Tree Diamonds

The Stitching Girls came over for lunch on Sunday and Karen brought FigTree Diamonds with her.  I sewed the binding on after basketball and spent a couple of nights stitching it down.  This is a pretty big quilt at 97.5" square and has made a bit of dent in my FigTree stash.

I've cut out 2 more quilts:  "Colorway" (I have trouble typing that name without the "u")

and "Cakewalk"

Looking forward to starting Cakewalk - some easy and quick piecing.

"Medley" is progressing.  All the friendship star blocks and few more borders have been added

and I'm slowly working on the flower blocks for the next border - lots of tiny pieces in these blocks.  I wish I had more of the yellow Fig Tree fabrics - they are so lovely.
