This summer two of my grandaughters learned to scuba dive, that is to dive with air bottles and breathing apparatus.
The two eldest went wind surfing while on the island of Paros.
Paros is one of the islands of the cyclades. These are known as the windy islands. Perfect for wind surfing which they had already mastered on Poros . Their father is a another wind surf enthusiast and so is their Uncle downunder who will be board surfing as long as he breathes.
12 year old Luli
She and her best friend learnt to scuba dive and loved every minute of it
Two little water sprites
Her older cousin Poppi
Once again loving every minute of it.
The girls couldn't go diving on the, just off shore, old wreck because of rough weather. Instead they dived around Love Bay, swimming with the fish.
Rowing is still the family's number one water sport. However as the children get older their school lessons get more important and there is less time for rowing practice. Three of the five still row and are doing very well. Regattas and meetings have all been postponed this summer because of the virus but hopefully next summer will bring more opportunities for medals and cups.
Good to see your grandchildren enjoying water sports. They are brave scuba diving!
ReplyDeleteThe idea of scuba diving creeps me out. I love snorkelling, or used to when I didn't mind getting my hair wet. But seeing wrecks and things on the bottom scares me for some reason.
DeleteThey just loved it
Awww, they are adorable! So fun being able to do water sports, and great for them to be comfortable in the water.
ReplyDeleteThey all love the water and swim most of the year. The young don't feel the cold
DeleteHow wonderful. I have never been comfortable in the water.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer the calm seas of the med. Too many rips and waves in nz
DeleteMy adopted son goes free-diving when he gets the opportunity. He says it is fantastic being beneath the water with the fish, so he would be cheering your grand-daughters on :)
ReplyDeleteI like snorkelling but diving deeper sort of scares me. It does sound like a great experience though. Free diving must great exercise too
DeleteI used to dive, but could only get my daughter to follow my passion. Then after she moved to Queensland (Great Barrier Reef country) she didn't bother. Too many nasties perhaps.
ReplyDeleteDiving on Great Barrier would have been the ultimate experience but I can understand why someone would keep out of the water in Australia .
DeleteThe girls loved the underwater experience
Go rowers - such a fabulous fitness sport and really great to see girls in sport turning into women in sport. So many girls give up sport when they get into their teens.
ReplyDeleteThe kids all loved rowing and two of the girls are very keen and have won medals all over Greece. Unfortunately the older one is in her last year before uni and spends hours doing extra lessons. I hope she can keep up with practice
DeleteSuper photos. Love the blue sea. Or is it Azure? I am not good at my colours.
ReplyDeleteDuck egg blue, sky blue. Sea blue!!!
DeleteLovely photos... what lovely grandchildren, I didn't realise you had grandkids that old! You must have been very young when you had kids (as was I).
ReplyDeleteMy oldest grandson is almost 20! And no, I wasn't all that young. I'm older than you think!
DeleteAnd his mother had him at 18!
DeleteWe've been talking about learning to dive here for a few years but it's not cheap, the other half use to do it quite a bit in his younger days.
ReplyDeleteThe diving instructer is a friend. I think he gave them a good discount
