Each year as I'm busying myself with the Christmas decorating, my thoughts turn to home.
The traditions at Christmas that have stood the test of time throughout many English households.
The partaking of mince pies, raspberry trifle, sausage rolls, steamed plum pudding, and Christmas cake laden with dried fruit , marzipan and Royal Icing...hard as a rock.
Gathering around the television or the radio and listening to the Queen's Speech.
Afterwards a tipple of traditional sherry, or port, toasting the season and good health to all !
The pulling of the Christmas crackers before eating turkey dinner, wearing the paper party hats, laughing at the silly paper jokes inside, and delighting in the small prizes, most often magic tricks, or plastic trinkets.
Happy times, that are gratefully forever etched in our memories ..........

Having lived in England a short while, I became enthralled
and attached to it's Christmas traditions and they have stayed with me through the years... The "crackers" are in
place on the table and some traditional dishes will find
their place on Christmas day. But what I remember best
are the spirit, music and fellowship that permeated every
gathering and blessed these "Yanks" with love and memories. I continue to miss the Queen and her long and
vibrant example in our lives. Indeed, we were blessed.
We were talking about xmas memories yesterday with my english friend. Back in the 60s NZ nad NZ had similar xmas traditions, still do in the main. TOP of the list is always Quality Street!
I enjoy hearing about your Christmas memories and traditions. It's important to keep the spirit alive, which is nourishment for the soul. The food sounds fantastic! Even though I'm not British, I miss your Queen and always listened to her annual Christmas address.
