Projects: Poly Clay Creations

Recently I had some poly clay items that needed to be made for a few Swap-Bot swaps. They turned out better than I'd expected so I figured I'd show them to you!

Tiny Poly Clay Tea Cup Charm
This little tea cup may not look too impressive, but when you realize it's only about 1/3" in size, then I think I did pretty good! This will end up being a charm; that's why there is a wire sticking up through the center right now.

Poly Clay Shawl/Scarf Pin
This turned out so nice. I'm so proud of it! It was actually much easier to make than I thought it would be.
If you're unfamiliar with shawl/scarf pins, let me explain how this would be used. Just pull both layers of the shawl/scarf up through the center then push the pin part through the shawl/scarf. This will hold your shawl or scarf in place until you're ready to remove it!

Poly Clay Artist Trading Card (ATC)
This was another item that turned out really nice! It took me about an hour to make (not including baking time) because of all of the details in mica powders that had to be added with a tiny tipped paint brush. I think it was well worth the time, because I'm extremely pleased with the outcome.
This was another really easy project. Basically, I just rolled out my clay to the desired thickness, trimmed to size (2.5"x3.5"), stamped my images into the clay, and "painted" on the mica powders.

If anyone would like a detailed tutorial of the pin or ATC, complete with step-by-step photos, just leave a comment and I'll add one ASAP.

Projects: Dotee Dolls & New ATCs

Hey everyone!

Between the holidays and a recent personal health scare, I haven't updated this blog in awhile. The good news is that I'm back in action! Today I'm just going to show you my most recent Artist Trading Cards and a new craft I've recently discovered, Dotee dolls!

Let's start with a few ATCs. I'm including detailed descriptions for each card.

"Blue Skies": Two cardboard frames surround images of a butterfly and a ladybug, which have been attached to a blue and silver alcohol-inked background; the words "Blue skies up above" have been added as accents.

"create": A tissue paper background hosts a collage of cardstock die-cuts, paper deco-tape, and glittery letters.

"Silver Flowers": Various plastic die-cuts are attached to the silver inked background with silver-tone brads.

"Winter":Paper snowflakes have been glued to the acrylic painted blue background and accented with gemmed brads.

"The Great Escape": International stamps have been attached to a simple green-inked background and have been stamped over with an inked image; a 3-D clear plastic sticker says, "the great escape".

Now on to Dotee Dolls! These are interesting little dolls that are meant to only be given away or traded, not sold! They're really easy to make so they're very addicting once you get started. You can search www.flickr.com for "Dotee" and come up with a few thousand images showing the variety of these adorable little dolls.

Here's what Wikipedia says about Dotees, "A dotee is a type of small handmade fabric doll ranging in size from 3"-7". They have a face, tail and hanger with no arms or legs. Tail and body of the doll may be decorated with various items, like ribbons and beads. Dotee dolls were originally created by Dorothy Christian."

Without further adieu, here are my first four completed Dotees (in the order I made them):

I'm looking for names for these four Dotee dolls so I'd love to get your ideas!! Also, if anyone is interested in a basic Dotee tutorial, just let me know and I'll try to create one soon!

Projects: Attack of the ATCs!

Yet another relatively new project I've been working on: Artist Trading Cards (ATCs). If you're unfamiliar with ATCs, they are 2.5"x3.5" pieces of art. They can be any material or medium as long as they fit into a trading card sleeve.

I've recently started making some with alcohol inked backgrounds and embossing and/or collaging. I plan to start painting some in the near future, but I want to improve my painting skills before I do so.

ATCs are meant to be traded, not sold. If you plan to sell your mini-art, then they are considered "Art Cards, Editions & Originals" (ACEOs). A popular place to trade your ATCs is on www.ATCsForAll.com. You can browse a gallery of available ATCs as well as list your ATCs for others to contact you for a trade. My ID on ATCs For All is "Venus Designs". I list all available ATCs on this site only. Some of the ATCs below are still available on this site.

I've included pictures of some of my first ATCs below All of them have alcohol inked backgrounds. As always, if anyone is interested in a tutorial, just post a comment saying so and I'll do my best to write one as soon as possible.
