Hey there, Stamping Friends!
I have been absent from this blog for over a month...tsk tsk! I had only made 2 cards since the last post, until today. I kept thinking I would get back into my creative mode, but it just wasn't happening. But I have been very busy with other things. I attended a conference in St Louis right after Easter and I sang at two different women's events in the diocese. I am most excited about having a Mother's Day column PUBLISHED in our diocesan newspaper this week! WooHoo! Additionally, that article prompted an on-air interview yesterday on SirusXM radio! Hopefully these media accomplishments will help with my speaking events!
If you want to read my column, just click here.
I have made 3 cards today, plus I mailed 8 cards from my stash! Feels good to start catching up! I will post pictures of the new cards tomorrow (I hope). But I decided to post a picture of the card I made a couple of weeks ago, but had not yet posted.
I have 2 nephews with late April birthdays, and I had no guy cards in my stash. I wanted to do a Freshly Made Sketch challenge, and I actually made this on time for the deadline. However, I didn't like my photo...and I had to mail both of the cards immediately (I made duplicates.) I'll probably do the challenge again for fun.
This card features SU's "Soho Subway" dsp...which I bought 2 years ago and had NEVER used! This made me realize that I do NOT need to by the soon-to-retire dsp this month. Must.Not.Spend. LOL Anyway, I thought the pattern with all of the numbers would be fun for a birthday card. The card base is early espresso. The little turtle is from "Fox and Friends" stamped in not quite navy, and the sentiment is from "Just Sayin'" stamped in early espresso. After punching holes, I added just a bit of summer starfruit thick bakers twine.
I like how these turned out, and may end up using that Soho paper after all!
Thanks for helping me dust off my blog! I hope to be back tomorrow...hmmm, not sure. It's Mother's Day! If not tomorrow, I'll see you Monday!

7 Quick Takes...It's Been a While!
Hello and Happy Independence Day!!!
If I am going to get back into blogging, I need to write more often, so here I am again. Two days in a row. Ha!
Last fall, I started getting into "7 Quick Takes" as featured on the blog Conversion Diary. It's Friday, so it's time to jump in again!
5. Weight Loss? Me?
I noticed that one of my posts earlier was bemoaning my heaviness, with the hope that I would get moving again. It's been nearly 5 months, and I have continued to neglect my exercises. But now that my exercise mat is cleared off, that should change...right??
6. Appliances...Ugh
Our home dryer gave out on us a couple of weeks ago. We bought a new one, but our current pedestal isn't compatible. Why weren't we told this before? We bought a new pedestal, it was delayed a week (not in stock, of course.) We reschedule installation...they never show. I called only to find out the date was changed...but we weren't told. I nearly lost it with the call center! Now, we have a different dryer from a different retailer scheduled to arrive Monday, and the other dryer (which is on the back porch) will be returned to the retailer that couldn't handle basic installation or scheduling. As much as I hate doing laundry, I am looking forward to drying a load of sheets and towels very soon!
7. Good Friends
One thing I have seen since I left my position at WCC, is how many wonderful friends I have. I have received phone calls, email and text messages, even little notes on Facebook. People are surprised about my situation, but they know me well enough to believe it must be what I truly needed to do. I recently had a call from one of the church secretaries. She said that she and her pastor had been thinking about me quite a bit, and wanted me to know that they care about me and support me. Another area pastor called me with words of comfort and reassurance, plus he invited me to help with a special project for the Advent season. It came at a VERY good time, because I was beginning to feel discouragement creeping in. Isn't it amazing how God will use people in your life to send messages of His love? I am BLESSED!
That's my Quick Takes for this week. Be sure to check out posts on Conversion Diary. I love reading what other people find inspiring or funny in their lives.
Blessings,
Kim

1. Happy Birthday, USA!!
Despite all of the garbage our nation is experiencing, I firmly believe that this is the greatest nation on the planet! We can debate policies and politics...but we can do so without being thrown in jail or beheaded. That's nothing to take for granted. So on this Fourth of July, I thank God for the many freedoms and blessings we have. I thank God for the men and women who serve in the military to ensure our safety, and to promote democracy around the world. Fly your flags today, and celebrate with as many fireworks as you can get!
2. Great Book!!
Last month, I read Something Other Than God by Jennifer Fulwiler. Wow! Great book! I have passed it along to a couple of friends. I have another copy at home, which I will hopefully share with a certain person who could really benefit from it. At least, I think so...but I need to pray for the right time to share it.
3. Book Inspired Card
So, one of my obsessions, or hobbies, is card making. In June, I participated in a series of challenges hosted on my favorite craft website Splitcoaststampers. The overall theme was summer vacation, and one specific challenge asked us to make a card inspired by a book...whether it was the plot, a character, or even the cover. I chose the cover of Jennifer's book. How fun is that? HERE is my post about the materials I used to make the card...in case you're curious.
4. Organizing...I still don't like it
Since I am not currently employed, I have had time to work on my home clutter. Bruce & I hosted 2 young women for a week, while they assisted with a catechism program at our church called Totus Tuus. Nothing like having company to get me to clean up! Sadly, I piled some things on a shelf...not too bad. Except yesterday I needed a notebook from the bottom of that pile. I now have a new mess that I need to take care of...after the holiday weekend!

A New Chapter for Me...
Hello to anyone who stops by this dusty blog.
Funny thing is, some people have come by...but there have been no posts here for months. I have been posting on my card making blog Stamping for LIFE!, but since this was the first blog I set up on blogger, many of my fellow paper crafters end up here. I guess it is a bit confusing, but it hasn't been earth shattering. Both of these blogs are just an outlet for me. If they inspire someone...that's a special perk!
Sometimes, when a blogger falls off the edge of the earth, it is because she has been ill, or she has been extraordinarily busy, or she just had a major life change that made blogging the last thing on her mind.
That last one is me...sort of. It's not that I haven't thought about blogging. I just haven't figured out how to start up again. In fact, I have at least 2 posts sitting in my drafts. Sigh.
So here goes...again. What is up, you ask? Well, in early May, after over 11 years, I left my position as Executive Director of Women's Care Clinic in Danville. Done. And here I am, nearly two months later, still a bit dazed from the change.
I am not going to discuss why I left, as that is between me, God, my husband, my pastor, the board, and some very close family & friends. That sounds like a lot, I suppose. I will say that as quick as this change occurred, and as emotional as it was to walk away, I do feel a sense of peace. Not as though everything is peachy keen...I am still grieving quite a bit...but peace in the sense that I know and trust God has me in His hands. He also has Women's Care Clinic in His hands.
Local ministry supporters have been so kind to me. Many have been concerned if my health was the reason for my resignation. I told one woman, "Nope, my health is no worse and no better than it was just a few months ago!" We both laughed, since we both have a plethora of physical ailments. Many other supporters expressed concern because the ministry recently acquired a much larger building. At the Banquet for Life in April, I described this building as "a DIY project on steroids." Yes, it needs a lot of work. Yes, I had been praying for a larger space for years. But the building isn't mine; the ministry isn't mine. It all belongs to God!
I am mindful of the ministry's founding Executive Director, Linda O. She dreamt of the day that the ministry would have ultrasound and a nurse on staff. And it happened...just not on "her watch." She passed the baton off to Deni; then Deni to Tammy; then Tammy to me. Now, I believe God has released me, and told me to hand the baton off to new leadership. Sometimes we are the ones called to plant the seeds, but someone else brings in the harvest. A beautiful woman of God, April, has joined the ministry team. I pray for her, I support her efforts. I want her to succeed, because that means the ministry succeeds...which means more babies will be saved!
And that's the bottom line.
One of the ministry volunteers asked if I will be volunteering at the clinic. I told her no, because I imagine that would be so awkward! At least initially. Besides, people need to connect with April. She will do some things the same, and some things differently. However, Bruce and I are still financially supporting the ministry...because the mission continues to be Creating a Culture of Life. SAVE the babies! Reach the mothers and fathers with love and compassion. Do everything in the Name of Jesus!
We will also sponsor a couple of kids from St Paul's for the Walk for Life. My home church was #2 last fall; barely beating Catlin Church of Christ by just $50. I am certain that their pastor, Darren, is developing a plan to topple us. Must. Not. Happen! *wink*
So, what have I been doing lately? I have been sleeping in...making cards...MAILING cards...reading books...having lunch with friends...and reorganizing my home office/craft room. Bruce and I also hosted some college kids for a week, as they facilitated a catechism program at our church.
But now, I am praying about my next steps...I have wanted to pursue keynote speaking for years. I have been encouraged by many friends and colleagues to do this as well...but I never had the energy to dig deep into this venture. Now is the time. Between my experience at Women's Care Clinic and my personal experience with Gabriel, I believe I have much to offer. This little blog will hopefully grow, as I write more. I will be working with a website developer to have something more polished. I will be contacting men and women whom I have met over the years at conferences and online. My dear husband is so supportive of this, even though it will mean more travel. (Have I mentioned, I LOVE to travel??)
So, I ask for your prayers, as I pursue this long-held dream. I think about Mr. Clark...my speech team coach from Rochelle Township High School. He took a shy, awkward teen and encouraged her to share ideas in front of people with confidence. Now, God is saying it's time to get out more and use those speaking skills! After all, every part of my story, my testimony, features HIM!!
The new chapter has begun...it's going to be good!
Until next time...
Kim

Love Fest!
(Note: This was originally posted on my other blog. I am moving 2014 posts over here.)
Love is in the air at Splitcoaststampers!
I almost missed it this year, but once again, member companies have posted a series of challenge during the last half of February. I only did a few cards, combining each with a couple of challenges. I'll post a couple today, then the others later this week.
My first card was for the Paper Smooches challenge to make something CUTE and fun, or elegant and classy. I just got the SU "Just Sayin'" stamp set and the coordinating framelits. I work for a prolife ministry, and I am known to say "WooHoo!" a lot. I decided to combine the conversation bubble with this little guy from long-retired "Baby Firsts." The top of the card was run through the big shot with my new impressions folder from sale-a-bration. The entire card is in white and poppy parade, including the twill ribbon.. I made 12...and will make 12 in many other colors as well. I plan on using them for thank you cards.

The next card is for the Stamping Bella challenge to make a spring card (we are all tired of winter!) It also works for a recent SCS color challenge; wild wasabi, daffodil delight, and strawberry slush. The card base is wasabi, and the white layer is embossed with Cuttlebug's stylized flowers folder. My images are from SU's "Hello Again," colored with markers. The sentiment is from "On Your Birthday." I added a scallop oval from more scraps on my table, even though it isn't quite the right color...close enough! Gotta use my scraps! A touch of strawberry ruffled ribbon, and some candy dots finish it off.
I enjoy making clean and simple cards...sometimes. LOL These were quick and easy to do. Perhaps I will make more of them soon.

7 Quick Takes...Volume 5
Hello, and Happy Friday! This may be my quickest 7 Quick Takes. Still sick...blech! But I am trying to get into the habit of writing/blogging regularly...so here goes!
- 1. -
It snowed heavily, but briefly, yesterday morning. The forecast had been for a small amount of flurries, so the big flakes and strong wind gusts were surprising. One of my friends had posted on Facebook that she felt like she was inside a snow globe in the hands of an excited 3 year old! What a perfectly delightful image! I was grateful that I did not have to go anywhere (lots of accidents reported in rural areas). But I have to admit, it was a beautiful snowfall! Brings to mind the canticle in the third chapter of the Book of Daniel... "All you winds, bless the Lord...Cold and chill, bless the Lord...Hoarfrost and snow, bless the Lord...Praise and exalt Him above all forever!"
- 2. -
While typing this, I took a break to peek in on Facebook. People were participating in a quirky quiz, to see what Star Wars character they most resembled. I took the bait. I am Obi-Wan Kenobi! Ha! I think I would like to resemble him most, and some days I do...but I am not nearly so level-headed!
- 3. -
This Sunday is the March for Life in Chicago. I would love to go, but probably won't. Unless something changes, I just cannot see myself spending hours in the cold. But if you are in the Midwest, and cannot travel all the way to DC for the big event on Wednesday, this is a great option! Check it out here for more info
- 4. -
I went back to the doctor earlier this week, and when I was weighed, I reached my highest weight since I was pregnant nearly 20 years ago. Oh. No. I have been well aware of my weight going up, and I thought I was motivated to lose weight before my trip to Italy last year...but I just maintained my weight instead. I hope this ugly number on the scale will shake me up. I know I need to exercise, but I hate exercise! If you have ANY tips for getting motivated, please fill me in! (*Update...I weighed myself this morning, and I weigh 5 pounds less. I prefer my scale at home!)
- 5. -
Last Sunday, as I mentioned in a previous post, we had one of our former foster kids over with her husband and three kids for a late Christmas dinner. It was the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, so liturgically, we were still in the Christmas season. Bruce made enchiladas, and we exchanged gifts. All three of the kids pounded on the piano at least a little bit! Lots of fun! I only mention the "foster" title because some people get confused when I talk about my daughter... "Kim, I didn't think you had kids other than Gabriel." Bruce and I welcomed 41 kids into our home over 8 years. Some were just here for a weekend, some, like Jamie, were here for much longer (she was here over 3 years). I often referred to this as "my other pro-life ministry." It was some of the hardest stuff we ever did...very intense and emotional...but very worthwhile. Romans 12:13 says, "Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality." While this verse is talking about reaching out specifically to other Christians, there is no doubt in my mind that God would love more Christian families to become foster and adoptive parents!!
- 6. -
Our party was NOT the last of our Christmas celebrations! This weekend some long-time friends of ours are hosting their annual "Procrastinator's Christmas Party," and I truly hope we can go! For one thing, how fun is that party title? It is a great reason to get together during the doldrums of winter. Plus, the party always features a fantastic white elephant gift exchange. Here's hoping my new medicines kick in!
- 7. -
Well, this was longer than I expected, but I cannot think of a Number 7. My brain is done. Time for some more medicine and a cup of tea. By God's grace, I will be feeling better soon!
Thanks for stopping by...and feel free to leave a comment. I would love to hear from you!
Ciao!

7 Quick Takes...Thank God it's Friday?
Good morning everyone!
I am typing this post late Thursday night, thrilled that it will go live on Friday, possibly while I still have my pajamas on. It's been that kind of week. Lingering bronchitis and bitter cold temps have kept me holed up in my house all week. Except yesterday morning, when I actually had to venture out to do a presentation for the Sunrise Rotary Club. Very nice people...but being up, dressed, and coherent by 7:00 a.m. in the middle of winter is a stretch for me. Good thing Bruce is a morning guy! Any way, here are my 7 quick takes...inspired by Jennifer at ConversionDiary.com Check her out...seriously.
1.
We so often say "Thank God it's Friday!" but isn't that a bit sad? Are our jobs that tedious or unsatisfying? Are weekends so much better? I suppose for some people this is the case. But I hope to spend 2014 saying "Thank God it's another day!" After all, He doesn't have to give me another one...why not be thankful for Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thursdays... I'll work harder on the Monday gratitude.
2.
We got more snow today in Danville. Maybe an inch. It was a pretty sight coming down. One of my priest friends posted a quote on Facebook the other day... "There is no such thing as bad weather. All weather is good because it is God's." He is unsure who said it... perhaps St. Teresa of Avila or Fr. Jean Pierre de Caussade. Either way, it is a challenging thought.
3.
I spent too much time this evening looking at stamping websites...craving an order of new products. You know, because I don't have enough ribbon or stamps or card stock. Well, not enough for Valentines...and I want to make a bunch. The good news is I only filled my wish lists...I ordered nothing. Hopefully the urge to spend will go away while I sleep!
4.
This weekend I have family coming by for a belated Christmas celebration. I am so excited! Bruce and I spent 8 years as foster parents, and we are still very close to some of our kids...even though they moved out years ago. Jamie is married, has 3 kids, and calls us Mom & Dad. Can't beat that!
5.
Next week, I will be going to different area businesses to ask them about underwriting the upcoming Women's Care Clinic Banquet for Life. I need about $15,000 by April 1st. Let me know if you want to help! (I'm only half-way kidding!)
6.
Tonight, television was really bad. I mean, worse than usual. I confess I watch too much TV. One of my goals is to sharply reduce that. It felt good to just turn the silly thing OFF!
7.
I am doing a workshop at the Heartbeat International Conference this coming March, in Charleston SC. I will be addressing ministry fatigue and burnout...something I have struggled with off and on for years. I know some of the things that help me...certainly more prayer, Scripture reading, even stamping. But I have to work extra hard at staying focused during these cold months. What do you do to stay focused on the tasks God has assigned to you? Feel free to share them below. We can all use some ideas, right?

Ciao!

It's Still Cold, but Don't Stop Fighting for LIFE!
Good morning! Sort of... I woke up to another day of 10 degrees below zero. That's air temp, not wind chill. Brrrrrrrrr. On the bright side, I am wearing jeans and a sweatshirt again. I showered, but didn't do my hair. Usually, I go into the office on Tuesdays, but we are closed again. Our two nurses are stranded in their rural communities, and no one wants to be driving in these brutal temps, if they can avoid it.
I am also still struggling with bronchitis, so it is just as well that I keep my distance. Hopefully, I will get some work done today. Sanctity of Life Sunday is just around the corner. WCC has a prayer service every year, for the entire community. There is still a lot to do for that...oh boy.
I am also working on stuff for our upcoming Banquet for Life, to be held April 24th. I am always nervous about the details of the event...there are many...but yet God always provides just what we need when we need it. We have an amazing speaker scheduled for this year's event, Ryan Bomberger of The Radiance Foundation. Pro-life Rock Star! Now, I need to work on underwriting...the hardest part of the event. Plus start getting my team ready for the planning: table hosts, decorations, program. Yep, there's a lot to do!
On a day like this, when the world outside is at a standstill, it can be so easy to stop everything inside, too. But I reminded myself today that God has called me to these tasks. Yes, it's a job...but it is more than that: it is a vocation. When you want to see abortion knocked off the face of the earth, you cannot stop the work. There is too much to do!
Later this month, the National March for Life will be held in Washington DC...and other marches will occur in San Francisco and Chicago. Many in the media will try to avoid these huge events, but the truth is, our country is waking up! Abortion is not a solution...it is just another problem being handed to women all dressed up in pretty words like choice. The young people who march proudly call themselves the Pro-Life Generation. I cannot wait to see what miracles God will be doing through them this year!
So, I am going to get back to my work. All I have to do is picture someone's baby, and I know I am doing the right thing!
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

- We must pray every day for women to choose life
- We must support our local pregnancy resource ministry with our prayers, our treasure, our time
- We must educate our family and friends about the truth of abortion...and then educate them on REAL solutions, such as adoption or parenting with help from places like Women's Care Clinic
- We must utilize the tools available to us, like blogs, Facebook, Twitter...or even old fashioned approaches such as Letters to the Editor or an actual face-to-face conversation over lunch
- And we must pray again...without ceasing!

Happy New Year! How do you top a Hug from the Pope?
Good Morning! (Or should I say, Buon Giorno!)
Here it is, the start of 2014. Looking back on last year, it is hard to imagine how we could top 2013! I usually send out about 100 handcrafted cards with a Christmas letter inserted. But my stampin' mojo was missing...at least the last 2 months of the year. I barely got birthday cards done for the family (and many were late...very late.) However, I still can do a letter...but for the New Year. Technically, we are still in the 12 Days of Christmas, so I am NOT late! Ha! (Today's post is my letter, with just a few minor adjustments.)
Work was quite busy for me and Bruce. He worked a lot of overtime at Quaker again. Unfortunately, he was switched from 1st to 2nd shift in May. We are not thrilled with it, but in this economy we are counting our blessings. His enjoys it, it pays well, there is a very short commute, and he has good benefits. We would take ANY shift!
Kim began the year at Women's Care Clinic with the Sanctity of Life Sunday prayer service being hosted at their own church, St. Paul Catholic Church. The rest of the year was filled with the usual fund raisers, and the ministry actually broke a record for the spring banquet. The BIG news is that the ministry purchased a huge building for future expansion. Kim tells everyone, "It needs a lot of love!" In the coming year, she will be working with the board and staff on a capital campaign. While she is nervous about it, she trusts that God will provide...2014 promises to be intense!
In April, Kim began attending a small group of Lay Dominicans that meet monthly on the Purdue University campus. She was invited by her friend Kari, and felt this new prayer/study format might be what she really needs to dig deeper in her faith. She is still an "Inquirer," and plans on making her temporary profession sometime in 2014. Dominicans are known as the Order of Preachers, and while she won't be preaching at Mass, it definitely fits her love for sharing both her faith and her commitment to the sanctity of human life.
Those Quaker benefits mentioned above came in quite handy this year. In February, Kim needed minor surgery to correct a developing hammer toe on her right foot (a common issue with Dejerine-Sottas.) It's amazing how something so small can be a big issue! Bruce also had health issues; experiencing kidney stones for the first time in 5 years, just before Thanksgiving. In early December, he had out patient surgery to deal with a very large stone, and it looks like he will be fine in 2014!
Many people know what REALLY topped the headlines for our year..our 3 week vacation to Italy!! Celebrating 20 years of marriage with a big trip was more fantastic than I can express. Doing it in a country filled with so much Catholic history made it even better! We saw beautiful churches, ancient ruins, world class art...and then there was The Hug! One October 23rd, we went to a General Audience at St. Peter's. If there is ever a good time to be in a wheelchair, it is at the Vatican! We had amazing seats in the middle aisle, and the "Pope-mobile" went passed us twice! After the audience, we stuck around for a bit (the crowd was huge, so no rush, right?) Good thing we waited, because Bruce saw that Pope Francis was greeting everyone who was in wheelchairs! There's more to the story, which you can read HERE. But suffice it to say, we both felt remarkably blessed!! There were numerous photographers, and one company allowed for orders of digital files...that is why you get to see this pictures. I look at them, and still can hardly believe it!
I am guessing next year will be a bit more "ordinary," but in all reality, if you try to see the blessings, all the blessings, than life is always EXTRAordinary! You don't have to go around the world to see something (or someone) amazing. We pray that 2014 will be filled with blessings for you and your families. May you experience all the joy that God has in store for you!

7 Quick Takes...Actually on Time!
Hello! It has been a while. Too long, in fact. I am considering writing several posts between now and the 31st so I can catch up. End of the year reflections do that sort of thing.
I am participating in the fun blog activity of posting 7 things, generally unrelated, as seen on one of my favorite blogs, Conversion Diary
1.
I have learned that blogging is harder than it looks. Well, I knew that. But really, I need to be more disciplined with this!
2.
I am very grateful that my husband and I were not hosting Christmas for the family...either side. We barely have things decorated, and the house is a mess. But I am having a party for ministry volunteers on Sunday. Oh boy.
3.
My husband is a very good cook. My waistline is evidence. His latest culinary accomplishment is a rosemary/olive bread, baked from scratch. We served it (at my brother's house) with the delicious olive oil we bought in Italy. So sorry you cannot experience it...but trust me. Delicioso!!
4.
I did not complete my handcrafted Christmas cards this year. Once I fall behind, it is hard to get my mojo back. The good news is that once I freed myself of that "burden" I felt free to create again. I made a couple of baby cards and 5 birthday cards this week! I even updated my stamping blog: Stamping for LIFE!
5.
Every year, since I was a kid, my mom (and dad while he was still living) has given me a book for Christmas. She also gives books to my siblings and their spouses and kids. It is a great tradition. Since I began studying Dominican spirituality, I asked for something about or by St. Catherine of Siena. I got 2 books! One biography, and St Catherine's "The Dialogue." Looks like 2014 will begin with great reading!
6.
Many people are thinking about New Year's resolutions. Me too. More reading, more writing, less Facebook, less television. More exercise too. Maybe. I should...sigh
7.
Then there is the need for more prayer. Always. I have quite a year coming up for work...fund raising, hopefully more speaking. The only way to stay on track and stay healthy is to spend time in serious prayer. I think I'll check with St. Catherine for some ideas!
Feel free to let me know about any great new foods you had, or resolutions for 2014. I could also use some tips on being motivated for that exercise stuff!
Blessings,
Kim

Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord; "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
This is a very popular verse in Scripture...and for good reason. Our daily lives can often seem out of sync with our dreams. We may ask ourselves "When will I ever get myself in gear? When will these big dreams come true...if ever? Are these my dreams or God's dreams for me?"
Oh wait. That's me. Ummm...anyone else think like this?
This last week, I have had major affirmation that some of my dreams are not just mine, but indeed plans from God. I realize as I type that, it can sound rather arrogant...who can truly know the mind of God? But "for those who see with eyes of faith, the Lord is ever near." There is an intangible sense, a deep knowing that this is from God.
I have spent more than a quarter of my life in pro-life work. I didn't plan on it. I didn't study it in school. I was going to be a music therapist, and open a creative arts therapy clinic, serving people in need. Well, I did music therapy for 5 years before having Gabriel. It was challenging and fulfilling in its own way. But after losing Gabriel, and after being encouraged by some medical people to abort him, I knew I wanted to do something, anything to stop abortion. I joined HELP Ministries (now Women's Care Clinic) as a board member, then a Bridges volunteer, then Executive Director. This ministry has changed so much over the years! I have seen months where payroll was hard to meet, when pipes burst in the kitchen, when team "chemistry" was far from ideal. But I have also witnessed women come in with plans to abort...then change their hearts and minds right before my eyes! I have heard clients say they would not have finished school without our encouragement. Grandparents come up to me with tears of joy, grateful that their grandbabies are ALIVE! Post-abortive women had shared their grief and regret, and I have witnessed their healing! I have sat in small prayer groups and big church services with people praying in many ways but all to the same One True God! This is truly where I need to be and what I need to be doing. And it is a blessing to know that.
I write this because the ministry of Women's Care Clinic is preparing for a major transition into a much larger building. We have been praying for 3 years...and tomorrow papers will be signed for a building we acquired through an auction just one week ago! A process that seemed terribly long and wrought with complications came to a dramatic and quick resolution. We have a bigger building! Not that this building is move-in ready. Not even close! It needs a lot of love, a lot of work, and frankly, a lot of money. I asked myself, "Am I up for that? Can I handle it?" I want to write more, I want to do more public speaking. Where do I go?
But as I shared the good news about this building with our supporters through email, and some by phone, I got excited again. Not just an adrenaline rush, but a "Okay team...let's do this!" It NEEDS to be done! What is "it?" Expanding the ministry to reach more women in need...helping women and men choose LIFE for their babies...empowering parents to be the best parents possible...bringing wholeness to post-abortive women and men...and sharing the love of Christ with everyone who walks through our doors! To Create a Culture of Life! This must be done!!
I didn't plan on working in the pro-life world...but this is the plan God had for me all along! I didn't plan on the ministry moving into an old vacant grocery store...but this is the plan God had for Women's Care Clinic all along! There were reasons for the delays. And, perhaps, even reasons for my doubts. They caused me to truly seek the will of God in a way I had not done for a while. Funny thing is, staying right here doesn't mean I cannot write (this is a blog, after all!) and it doesn't mean I won't do more speaking events (like anyone could shut me up!). These dreams and visions all work well together. I knew that in my head...now I know it in my heart. What a blessing to know God was right there the whole time waiting for me to figure things out! He is SO patient! Yes...He knew the plans for me and this ministry...and He knows the plans for you!...plans for good, not harm...for a hope and a future. To Him be all Glory and Honor...forever and ever...AMEN!!

Top 10 List...WooHoo!
Hello Friends!
Just a reminder... I am moving my stamping projects to a new blog. If you want to check that out, go to the new address for Stamping for LIFE! I have several posts in my drafts...so hang in there, if you do not see them right away.
Today has been quite busy... Lots of big announcements for the ministry at Women's Care Clinic! Each year, we hold our Walk for Life fund raiser in September, and after pledges are entered into the computer, I announce the Top 10 Churches, and walkers (adults and youth). Even though I am thrilled at how well churches work together to support our life-saving efforts, this is the one time we take jabs at each other and get a bit competitive! We started this approach in 2005, after some training in fund raising...and after churches saw where they ranked, they got motivated! Now, years later, we still have fun with it! Small churches don't expect to be at the top...but they try hard to make the list. Big churches try to stay at, or near, the top...which brings generous funds in.
Why do we do this? Is it that important that St. Paul's and Catlin Church of Christ have been flip-flopping the #2 and #3 spots for years? Not in the big scheme of things...and certainly not in terms of saving babies. But it does offer a little external motivation for people to be generous. We're human...we often think about giving, but it is easy to put it off. After all, there are many worthy causes, and no one can support them all.
When I started my job as Executive Director, I was terrified of asking for money. I was timid, hesitant. I felt bad. Now, I confidently tell people that God could provide everything for us out of an ATM...but He allows us to participate in Kingdom building! Yep. We won't need money in heaven, but we need it here...and God knows that. He just wants us to reach out of our own lives and share the gifts He has given us with the people around us, or even across the world...to be good stewards.
So today...if anyone out there is actually reading this new blog...I encourage you to GIVE. I know times are tough. Jobs are hard to find...hours are being cut. But think about one less trip to a drive-up fast food window, and offer your treasure to a cause near to your heart. Perhaps it is an orphanage in central Africa, or a homeless shelter in your community...just try giving a little bit...and some day, maybe a bit more. It will help others, and it will help you. If pro-life work is important to you, as it is to me, send me a message and I will get you connected to a ministry in your area.
Wow... I did not intend on writing this! Strange, I guess. But this blog is about my own pursuit of holiness. I have found over the years that when I give of my time and talent and treasure, I am becoming more of the person God created me to be. I still have a long way to go. But it will be worth it in the end!

A Blessing to Play with Paper!
Hello Everyone!
I am getting back into a regular stamping mode...thank goodness! I needed quite a few birthday and graduation cards, plus some special occasion cards. My husband started working 2nd shift this week, so that means my evenings have been spent in my craft room. It is a mess!
I decided to catch up on SCS color challenges (my goal is to do them all this year! not necessarily in order or on time...but all of them!) I also wanted to peek in on my fave blog challenges, and this sketch from the Paper Players made me smile!
I needed a card for a client who recently gave her testimony at a ministry event. She has a very inspiring story, and her baby is soooooo precious! I thought these lovely colors would be cheerful and girly! The color challenge called for regal rose (soon to retire), bermuda bay (coming back!) and certainly celery (soon to retire).
My card base is regal rose. I rarely use this; generally only if it is in a color challenge. Ironically, whenever I do use it, I think "I should pull this color out more." Oh well! I added a layer of celery patterned paper. I had some retired bermuda bay patterned paper as well, which came in handy. The flower is from SU's "Touch of Nature" colored with markers. The sentiment is from SU's Blessings from Heaven." I dusted off my corner rounder and white grosgrain ribbon for some detailing. Instead of the top square, I have a butterfly punch from regal rose patterned paper. The gems are from an old stash bought at M's or HL...no idea what brand. (They're old!)
It was fun to play again with not one, but 2 challenges! Thanks fo stopping by...should be a very stampy summer!!

Friday Mash-Up-Catch-Up!
Hello Stamping Friends!
Today I have not one, but 2 cards for The Friday Mashup! You see, I did this week's challenge last night...but I never uploaded last week's challenge. So I decided to just post it today any way for fun. My first card Mashes-up the color palette of so saffron, pool party, and real red (and a neutral) with a baby theme. I had been eyeing this adorable stamp set from My Favorite Things for MONTHS, but held off since I was focused on SU demo work. But last fall, MFT had a major clearance sale...I spent a big chunk of moolah...and finally bought this set, called "Baby Bump" from the "Who's That Girl?" series. (Ironically, this set was NOT on sale...but since I saved money elsewhere, I bought it!)
Since my ministry focuses on pregnant teens and women, it's perfect! We have a program where needy moms can earn points by doing healthy things (finish a semester of school, keep pre-natal appointments, complete a budget plan, attend church, etc.) and then she "buys" baby items with her points. Sadly, we have a waiting list (but points are earned during that time too)...but when a spot becomes available, she goes through an orientation process where she sets goals. Basically I want to make cards to welcome women to the program! I doubt they will all be this involved though!
The colors were set by the FM challenge...the sketch by MFT Stamps. Each month, they give stampers a chance to complete a challenge for a chance to become Guest DT member for a month. Oh Joy! The sketch called for a circle, but this image has a rectangular outline, so this is a variation. My card base is pool party, and I added a pattern in pool party found in Comfort Cafe dsp. The real red and so saffron are long retired SU patterns. I stamped this shoppin' mama in basic black craft ink, and heat embossed with black powder. I also stamped the image on each of the colored patterned papers for paper piecing. VERY tricky! The rest of the image is colored with SU markers or sponged (creamy caramel on the skin, going gray on the boots, sahara sand on the sidewalk). The sentiment is from the same set (our clients can actually shop long after the "drop"...until baby turns 1 year old!) SU ribbon and button add needed details, and dimensionals add a pregnant-worthy bumpy card!
What I love about the Who's That Girl stamps is that there is no ethnicity seen...you can color skin to personalize the card...which is perfect for our ministry needs! Plus the open images are fun to color in so many ways. Face it...no one really out grows their love for coloring! I may not paper-piece as much as the MFT team, but I am having fun expanding my options! Each of the MFT images come with a variety of sentiments with matching fonts...so mixing and matching is fun and easy to do! If I had the blessing of joining them, I would be so excited to show that mix and match feature!
Last week's Mash-up had a sketch and bunny option...so here comes Flopsey!! (also from My Favorite Things) I also combined this with a color challenge on splitcoaststampers that I had skipped (chocolate chip, crumb cake, certainly celery). I have a friend with a March 17 birthday. This cutey is actually holding hearts, but I used my heart punch and created a shamrock. This sentiment from SU's On Your Birthday. Details include SU's fancy fan embossing folder, framelits, punches, and ribbon. The brads are from a mixed pack from HL.
It has been fun playing with my buddies at the Friday Mashup again!! And it has been fun stretching my creativity with new stamps. Too bad the clean-up isn't any fun! LOL!
Thanks for stopping by!

Sympathy Card
Hello Stamping Friends!
Today I have a card for last week's sketch challenge on SCS. I needed a sympathy card for a volunteer who lost her best friend.
The card base is sahara sand. My dsp is retired SU Parisian Breeze (maybe?). I am not sure, but I had these scraps laying out. I layered the dsp with bravo burgundy. The image is from SU's "Bliss" stamped in pink pirouette and bravo burgundy, using the rock-and-roll technique. The sentiment is from"Teeny Tiny Wishes." I sponged so saffron on this panel, and a bit of burgundy on the edge, layering with sahara sand. My embellishments are burgundy grosgrain ribbon, scrunched up using tacky tape, and a felt flower with silver brad. My last touch was sponging the edges of the card base.
I loved this sketch...great for using scraps. I may have to try it again sometime.
Have a great Sunday!

Endless Thanks
Hello again! Yep, I am posting twice on the same day...because I want to get my blog challenge cards in on time! This one is my first Mojo Monday card! I have often seen others post mojo cards in their gallery, but I had not yet taken the plunge.
This past week, the ministry received a HUGE financial gift (well, for a non-profit our size!) The family who gave generously has done so before...recently, in fact. So I knew instantly which sentiment to use. This stamp comes from the retired set "Very Versatile." I use this stamp more than anything else in the set! The sentiment is stamped in not quite navy ink onto whisper white, which was cut out in my big shot with the doily sizzlit I ordered from SU just before I ended my time as a demo. I forgot I had it...but it is perfect for this sketch! Under the sentiment is SU's "Stemmed Silhouette" in kiwi kiss. I sponged the doily with baja breeze. The card base is basic gray, and I pulled out the Urban Garden dsp again...it's not to feminine, so it works for a husband/wife duo. Plus I hope to finish off this pack in the next month. (Using up my stash is a big goal for the year!) The other touches include baja breeze card stock, with scallop trim punch detail, and kiwi kiss taffeta ribbon.
This card was fun to make, as I prayed in thanksgiving for the generosity of special friends. Nothing like combining my job with my hobby, right?
Thanks for stopping by again!

Hello Again!
As promised, here is the other card I made for one of my staff members. Three new people joined the team last October, so each received a 90-day evaluation and a hand-crafted card this week! This card features the Freshly Made Sketch challenge found here.
Staci is my new Client Services Manager. As this card states, she is "fantastic!" She is smart, creative, and takes initiative. I am so blessed to have her on staff.
The card base is pool party. I already had a piece stamped with Serene Snowflakes, using pool party, island indigo, blushing bride, and wisteria wonder. I cut it in half for the sketch, and paired it with the wisteria wonder, embossed with a cuttlebug embossing folder. I added blushing bride pleated ribbon. My sentiments are from a SU hostess set, Perfect Words, stamped in island indigo, punched out with the modern label punch and lightly sponged. The center has a felt snowflake, finished with a polka dot brad. This is definitely a puffy card...great for hand delivery...even at a job evaluation!
Thanks for coming by!

Cards for My Staff
Hello Stamping Friends!!
Last October, I had three new people join the ministry staff. That means that this week, I had three 90-day evaluations to complete. Each of these women are doing great work, so I enjoyed making cards for them. I will post 2 cards today, both using daily challenges on splitcoaststampers. The third one used a blog challenge, so it will have its own post. :-)
The first card was for last Sunday's Featured Stamper challenge. It had been ages since I participated in this challenge, but when I saw that Lynn (aka allee) was being honored, I had to join in. She frequently makes comments on my cards...so I wanted to share the love! You can see my inspiration card by clicking here. I made the card for Julie, our new Director of Operations. It is a new position for our ministry...and having her in-house allows me to spend more time connecting with the community and individual supporters. My card base is peach pizzazz, with a layer of very vanilla. I used various acrylic blocks to stamp with peach pizzazz, pumpkin pie, daffodil delight, melon mambo, and primrose petals. My sentiment is from Stampabilities, stamped with pumpkin pie craft ink, then heat embossed. The image is from "Of the Earth," a retired SU hostess set, also heat embossed. I punched it out with a scallop circle, then sponged with peach pizzazz. It sits over pumpkin pie taffeta ribbon.
The next card uses a recent SCS color challenge: very vanilla, soft suede, and raspberry ripple. I made this card for Kelley, who had been a volunteer, but was hired after a longtime staff member moved away. Kelley has been a blessing! My card base is raspberry ripple. The layers of soft suede and very vanilla were embossed in the Big Shot with the fancy fan folder. I added both suede and raspberry ribbons. The sentiment is from Stampabilities. The flower is from SU's Mixed Bunch, punched out with the coordinating punch, and finished off with a gold brad. I used my bird punch to get the soft suede leaves.
Thanks for stopping by! It feels good to be stamping and blogging on a regular basis again!

Cards from LAST Month!
Hello Friends!
Last month, I made a few cards in a row and thought I was going to be updating my blog a lot. Hmmm, didn't happen. But I decided to post them now...better late than never!
This first card is what kicked me back into stamping mode: an anniversary card for dear hubby. I had no idea what to make that day (yes, I waited until the actual date!) I got home from work, and Bruce was working overtime again. I started by grabbing this fabulous autumn spice dsp. As I looked at my stamps, my eye caught this cutie from SU's "For the Birds" We have a bird bath in my back yard, and Bruce loves watching the birds play and splash. I used my blender pen to color the image, and added a bit of sponging. The colors featured are pool party, always artichoke, soft suede, and pumpkin pie. (Not sure why I didn't use more mustard ink to match the card base...guess I wanted some contrast.) The modern label punch makes a showing with the classic Teeny Tin Wishes. Brads and dimensionals add depth.
The next card was done for this Friday Mashup challenge...I just never posted it! I needed a baby card for our Medical Director, and the challenge color scheme was perfect for a baby boy! The card base is basic black, and a layer of whisper white allows the pacific point, marina mist, lucky limeade, and gumball green to pop! I used the long retired SU sets "Baby's Firsts" and "So Very." The argyle impressions folder and baker's twine add texture. Simple, quick card!
Thanks for stopping by today! I'll be posting more stuff soon!
