Mmmmmm, tactile. Making a second plaster slip cast mold for more raku antlers. I start with my wax casting of an antler then cast it in plaster in two parts. It takes a week for the plaster to cure enough to pour liquid clay into. Finicky but super rewarding.

Raku firing is such a primal experience. Today I ran two new antlers in glazes I haven’t tried before… The process involves heating a ceramic piece to 1800 degrees in a gas kiln then moving the melting hot sculpture into a closable chamber with combustible materials The flame interacts with the metals in the glazes to create unique one off effects. It’s volitile and mystical. I prefer creating work that leaves space for mystery, interaction, an collaboration between the materials and I.
