Thanks so much for the kind words. We actually prototyped levels with all square assets and we were remarking on the same thing you noticed when we swapped the spike in from the prototype, alas there was no time left to adjust. Always learning, cheers 🍻

I don't know what I was swinging the mallet at, or why there was a skull on the end of the handle. Decent level of polish, no bugs, definitely feels a bit like being at the carnival with all of the effects and colors. I don't know if I should be hitting some of the things I'm hitting with the mallet. They all squish afterwards, but sometimes they're red. Not sure if red is a bad color.

Excellent take on Pac Man. I was a little confused that I couldn't turn around after hitting the end of a hallway. Great art style, nice retro aesthetic through the chunky pixels and restricted palette. Great work!

The talking sound effects SENT me. Good job.

Everything sort of blends together into a horde, which makes it extra frustrating when the bats hit you. There's some excellent spritework in here, it was confusing to see the big skeleton trio on screen immediately as the game starts. I thought maybe it'd build up to that as a boss or something. It is a bit of an overwhelming start between the tutorial screen and all of the new enemies that spawn into view. But I don't want to seem negative. This thing is well put together and an awesome jam entry.

Excellent character and environment art. Many games succeed on just art and story alone, you've definitely got the ability. Keep going!

Welcome to Game Jams! I think it's really neat that you finished something and made the submission deadline. 

One of the better executions of narrative in a jam. The opening was a strong hook. I'm not sure it really hit on the theme for me, but the art was very impressive and well polished overall. Well done!

Really neat idea to possess objects, and I like the intro sequence. It had a good sense of "place" and imagination. I never really felt in control of the player. The jump felt like maybe it took a while to actually get me off the ground once I press the space bar?

The audacity to add in the walking bassline. I love it.

I was surprised the game asked me to be so precise with the harpoon gun, and it feels a little helpless to move around when the big ghost appears. I didn't really understand why the game was slowing down when I took damage, since there were a few times various things had delays on them to register changes. When I die it takes the game a moment to restart, which made me wonder if there was more I could do after my health hit zero. 

I think it'd feel shockingly improved with some more feedback when I take damage, and when I deal damage. Things like sound-effects, hitflash, hitstun. But really good work, and a solid jam entry.

Loved it! I sat and played this one for quite a while. I'd like if the enemies wouldn't disappear when they walk to the bottom of the room. I presume that was an issue with y-sort on the tilemap. But there was so much good feedback through sound and animation, and everything just felt good to do!

I love the sprite jiggles, and the music has good energy/tempo. Good work! Sadly, I got pancaked between two boxers and died rapidly.

Pretty unusual seeing logic simulation in a game jam. I commend the risk-taking since some folks won't remember off-the-cuff how logic gates look/act. I don't mind the refresher at all!

This thing is awesome! Considering Gameboy was 4 years before DOOM came out, I'm sure folks would've gone nuts for this game.

Super duper on-theme, love that the music picks up the pace. Well executed!

Awesome game. I'm a C enthusiast and I had no idea about GBDK. We also did a Pokemon-like thing, but used Godot. I'd be interested in hearing about GBDK and how it felt to use compared to other tools.

Super stylish. Super polished. You should message us back when the full game is available! Don't let us forget.

The music, the mood, the ambiance! Heck even the name. Something about it is inspiring. Great work! 

Wonderful presentation!

The different art style was a standout in the jam. The art didn't feel uniquely GameBoy, but it did stand out and is quality. I think with some more narrative and an overall goal this could be made into a compelling larger title. Great work!

Upper echelon entry. All aspects are polished, both concept and execution are fun. Be proud!

Really interesting concept, and mad props for making a game that's genuinely different. It felt a little unclear what my goal was while I was driving, but I don't think it has to be immediately obvious. Great work!

It's so good! This game has some of the best sound in the jam, and feels almost exactly like A Link to the Past. It was a nice refresher to just know how to play the game and be familiar with the enemies. Overall very polished and well done. I can't wait to do my next jam and to try to execute this well.

The opening sequence was really well written, and you did a good job establishing a game world. Lots of games of that era did this overworld "map of nodes" and that's nice to see here as well. Fun art, and lots of transitions and presentation. I think sound would take this to the next level. Great work!

This game should get a 6 out of 5 for "gameboy spirit," and I know there's a ton of effort put into making that impression. Great work!

This is one of the juiciest submissions yet! Your colors work so well with the action of the game, and there are loads of animations. I really like the character of the game.

Super cool! I felt a bit like I was playing Pacman as I was keeping an eye on the edge of the flashlight and trying to find the batteries.

Overall really charming and well done. You've put lots of polish on the presentation including this submission page. I loved the *skrrrr* frame where he's "putting on the brakes" to get to his classroom. Really cute and full of character. Also neat perspective drawings mixed with the character illustrations. Awesome!

My first instinct was to stay asleep, so I instantly game over'd and chuckled.
