Another important tool in mending is understanding the material itself. Ask yourself, “what am I working with here?”With this mend, it was a lightweight woven cotton material. By following the warp (vertical strands) and weft (horizontal stands) to repair the hole and using a water soluble stabilizer that dissolved later on, I was able to recreate/clone the fabric with the thread and blend or “trick the rip” into looking like the actual material.
