Philosphy is that ‘search for knowledge’ by man which aims to improve our knowledge of what is around us and
create institutions which make a better life possible. In this article we aim to demonstrate that culture is a spiritual
and material product of man within a community and as such identifies with the same community, (Cassierer 1968.
Herder 1971). Our understanding of culture is of a space where all the anthropological dimensions of man are
expressed, be they existential, intellectual, decisive and actional. Philosophy intervenes and accompanies the
process of man’s learning through the assimilation of those values with contribute to his full realization. Starting
from the subjective and objective concepts of culture, this article aims to study the relation between philosophy as
man’s conscious knowledge and culture as the fruit of man’s intelligence. A philosophical reading makes it
possible to see the foundations and characteristics of culture, and thereby conclude that Mocambique is a group of
cultures and none can claim to be superior to any other. Only complementarity and the principle of
complementarity can be used also in relation with other cultures which come from outside Mozambique.
