The research problem adopted in the article is to indicate the direction of changes taking place in one of the main functions of seaports, commercial function, based on a case study. Through historical data analysis, from years 2000-2012, on the number of vessels entering the port Darlowo, and the volume and types of reloading, the trend in the structure and dimension of trade has been determined. Subsequently, correlations between the size of handling in the port and the economic situation in the commune and region were found. Analysis of the data shows that rapid growth of cargo turnover in the port Darlowo, observed since 2009, originates from wind farms construction and, partly, are initiated by road constructions in the region and city. It should be noted that there is a change in dominant geographical trade directions-up to 2011 there were oversea countries and Germany, when in 2012 as many as 42 ships arrived from Latvia, which represents 38% of vessels arriving to the port. The data show also that in this case, the commercial function of the port does not affect local development, but in fact is a secondary effect of this development.
