The work opens an examination of the idea of God's existence and humanity's response to God's reluctance to address their concerns. Silas Marner, a devout Christian, is accused of thievery he did not commit and he hopes God will clear him. But God does not come to rescue him and this upsets his spiritual life leading him to commit blasphemy. He is frustrated with God because the whole thing seems illogical and inconsistent with his religious orientation. God's failure to rescue him, makes Silas angry and generates in him a sense of abandonment. Finally, disillusionment sets in. He loses trust in God and in man. He grasps a labyrinthine thread as he departs into the unknown. He does not know what to do as he is lost in a maze of choices: to insult the betrayer, to commit suicide, to curse the unfair God, or to spend his entire life with a loom. His departure is his final step and it ushers him into a life of spider-like existence -weaving until his back aches and he replaces God with gold. This existence finally is thwarted by the redemptive female figure who comes into his life as Silas comes back to the God he had earlier cursed. His journey away from solar regime to nocturnal has totally transformed him. (247 words)

That man does not mean just men in pants, but women and children alike are able to contribute to the progress of any society. The novel calls women to action, challenging women even to take action because they are capable of making a world of difference. From the Marxist perspective, the paper brings out the fact that history is shaped by the struggle of ordinary people against their oppressors through the portrait making of workers’ final victory gained at a considerable cost to themselves and their families.

Probably that could be the reason it has been placed at the centre of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and essential for the success of all SDGs. The realisation of the significant role education plays in our communities, nations, continents, and in the entire world, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development highlights education as a stand-alone goal (SDG 4). Kwame Nkrumah University, as one of the major providers of Open and Distance Learning education, therefore, stands a high chance of embracing and nurturing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This paper, therefore, addresses the question, "Is the ODL training translating into sustainable development for the beneficiaries and their environments?" The paper highlights the challenges and successes in capacity building in the areas of curriculum development, ICTs, Student, and Management. The research used the 5C Model as a framework for evaluating Capacity building at Kwame Nkrumah University. Best practices on capacity building and strategies for building ODL practitioners' capacity and interest in conducting research to inform practice have been highlighted in this study. The study concludes that there are enough room and a great opportunity for the institution to be ambitious and holistic in approach to matters of educational activities that can transform the lives of beneficiaries and their communities.

Guided by feminist theory, this paper projects Wariinga, a woman who breaks the male chauvinistic strongholds and educates herself, acquires an education with professional qualifications. She first studies typewriting and later mechanical engineering and finds work as a mechanic, which is a male dominated area. She stands against men’s sexual advances and takes charge of herself and her world. She evolves into a new, dynamic character, determined to assert her strength squarely on her hunters who hitherto viewed her as a bounty. She shoots her former paramour and counters the men who had earlier tormented her with a gun, a weapon usually associated with masculine power. Equally, women in Zambia and elsewhere in the globe can become the Wariinga in the Devil on the Cross by shaking off the male chauvinistic yoke by learning to assert themselves to bring change in their own lives and destinies and of those dependent on them. To some, this title is better not mentioned here because it reminds them of the potholes of life they have driven through.

J Dear participants, I am extremely delighted this evening to find myself in your midst and be part of this timely initiative -whose paramount goal is to cross-pollinate ideas that will, without any iota of doubt, change the way we do things in the intellectual world. But before I delve into the nitty-gritty of the purpose for which I am standing before you, may I fulsomely

We have become so lazy with research and found ourselves in the comfort zone. I do not blame you neither do I blame myself but the words‘INDOCTRINATION AND DOGMATIC’ which have played a major role. Unlike other books in the Bible such as; Ruth, Nehemiah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel and many others in the Old Testament which have specific authors, the book of Genesis seem to be different and contrary to what many of us if not all have come to believe. With this thought, I became academically seduced and aroused, and found myself in a situation where I could no longer resist the horny, but to do it and decide to share with you my flirting thoughts and those of other scholars and academicians who have written something on the book of Genesis. Hence, the topic ‘DECONTRUCTING MOSES ROLE IN THE CHRISTENDOM: THE BOOK OF GENESIS.’

The study, through close textual analysis, was undertaken on the basis that it is not clear as to the significance of journeys undertaken by major characters in the selected pieces of prose fiction. The major findings of the study are that Meka's journey in The Old man and the Medal, Wariinga's in Devil on the Cross, and Silas Marner in Silas Marner encapsulate journeys of self-discovery and metamorphosis. The characters change radically in the course of their movements and by the end of their journeys, for instance, gain a positive image, self-esteem/understanding and indeed discover their true selves. The study also discovered that the characters' journeys are not only physical, Psychological but spiritual journeys as well. The study concluded that in the three texts that were investigated, the journey plays a significant role as characters change radically in the course of their journeys.

Data were collected for three weeks through in-depth interviews via WhatsApp platform and phone calls with the participants. Being a qualitative study, 15 participants were randomly selected from a sampling framework of 157 respondents. Ten participants were authors while five were librarians. The phenomenological approach was found apposite for this study because it involved collecting, describing, and examining participants' individual lived experiences about a particular phenomenon, in this case, the Covid-19 pandemic impact. The data were analysed thematically according to the general steps for analysing phenomenological data as presented by LoBiondo and Hubee (1988). The study shows that the impact of Covid-19 on authors and libraries is something of a double-edged sword. While on the downside, it has reduced book sales, increased the cost of publishing, and threatened job security and access to r...

This study employed a qualitative approach to generate data because the views and opinions of the youths in Zambia were sought. A descriptive research design was used. The target population were all youths in Zambia. The sample consisted of 50 youths and 5 senior citizens who were purposively selected. 20 youths and 5 senior citizens were subjected to interviews and 30 youths were subjected to Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), thus 5 FGDs comprising of 6 members were used to gather data. Inductive thematic analysis was used to analyse data. Key findings were that youth were able to define patriotism though this appeared rhetoric. Voting was not the only way to show patriotism but just one of the ways patriotism may be expressed. Patriotism had to do with the emotional attachment to a nation. The spirit of patriotism should be rooted in the ideas that gave birth to a nation. Based on the findings, this study recommends to the government through the Ministry of Education to strengthen patriotic values in schools and this should begin at kindergarten. Civil Society Organizations in Zambia should come up with awareness programmes targeted at the youths on patriotism.

increasing number of Gender-based violence
involving women as major culprits. This study,
therefore, was carried out between January 2015
and the first quarter of 2017 to investigate the
causes of the dramatic shift in Gender Based
Violence where men have become victims. The
study is being conducted in Kabwe involving 150
respondents. Additional 100 informants were drawn
from across the country through social media
interactions via Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, and
Messenger. The study employed both qualitative
and quantitative approaches using a descriptive
design. The researcher conducted a desk review of
various monitoring and evaluation reports,
Newspapers both print and online and other
documents dealing with Gender Based Violence
and collected the most recent GBV statistics
regarding prevalence in the last two years. Apart
from questionnaires distributed, Focus Group
Discussions were conducted, and the results of this
study reveal that High alcohol consumption/drug
abuse, Poverty, Infidelity, a Shaky foundation of
marriage, and misapplication of human rights are
among the major contributing factors to the
dramatic shift in Gender Based Violence. The study
recommends that there is need to increase
advocacy and awareness, increased government
funding and opportunities for girls/ women to
reduce over-dependency on their husbands, put up
more counseling centres, and review of traditional
counselling curriculum.
