Material and Method: The antioxidant (DPPH, ABTS, total phenol, and flavonoid amounts) anti-inflammatory (LOX enzyme inhibition), antidiabetic (α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition), and cytotoxic properties (MTT assay) of a 70% methanol extract made from leaves and dichloromethane, butanol, ethyl acetate, and the residual water fractions were investigated. Result and Discussion: The DPPH radical scavenging effect of the ethyl acetate fraction, with the highest total phenol and flavonoid content, was found to be 1.4 µg/ml, and the ABTS radical scavenging effect was 2.58 mmol/Trolox. The most potent inhibitor of LOX (IC50: 31.17 µg/ml) and α-glucosidase (96% inhibition at 0.5 mg/ml) enzymes was determined as ethyl acetate extract. Dichloromethane fraction was shown to have the most cytotoxic activity in both H...

Changes occur in the anatomical structures of the vertebrae in cases of infections involving the vertebrae and fractures and deformities arising from traumatic or non-traumatic causes. The determination of such changes in the vertebrae is critically important in terms of treatment or surgical intervention. Morphometric measurements have an important place in the detection of these changes. Moreover, recently, cervical vertebral measurements have been used in sex identification, the preliminary diagnosis of genetic diseases and age identification. We aimed for the results of our study to support clinical interventions to be made in the cervical vertebrae, forensic medicine applications and anthropological applications as a reference in the literature. Methods: In the study, 54 cervical vertebra...

In this study, the role of nicotine in skeletal system changes were investigated with double staining 6 mg/kg nicotine; and the protective role of 50 and 100 mg/kg curcumin was also investigated. Pregnant rats were divided into 6 groups with 5 rats in each. Nicotine was applied to the experimental groups and curcumin was applied to the treatment groups in addition to nicotine. The upper and lower extremities of the offspring were examined under a stereomicroscope ossification rates were calculated by using the ImageJ Program. Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-α), Interleukin 1ß (IL-1ß), Interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels were measured in tissue by using Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay method. Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Glutathione (GSH), Glutathione disulfide (GSSG) Total Oxidant Status (TOS), Total Antioxidant Status (TAS), Calcium (Ca) and vitamin D (Vit D) measured by spectrophotometric assay. Oxidative Stress Index (OSI) and Total glutathione (GSH/GSSG) are useful indicators of oxidative stress tissues and were calculated as TOS-to-TAS and GSH-to-GSSG ratio respectively in the groups treated with curcumin were approximate to control group (P < 0.05). IL-1ß IL-6 and TNF-α values were notably higher in Nicotine group than in all the other groups. (P < 0.05).

[1,2] Nicotine, which is the main addictive component of tobacco, contains 0.6 to 2 mg in a single cigarette. [3,4] Since nicotine ingested through active or passive smoking is a compound that can pass through the placenta and mix with the fetal circulation, it can cause growth retardation, birth anomalies (limb shortening, cleft palate and lip, gastroschisis, etc.), and even mortality. [5-8] With nicotine stimulation of catecholamine release, it causes vasoconstriction in the vessels leading to the uterus and placenta. As a result of the decrease in blood

BPA is used in products such as food packaging, personal care products, detergents, and plastic bottles. This study was conducted to determine the effect of BPA on fetal bone development. Material and methods: In this study, 16 pregnant female Sprague-Dawley rats were used. The rats were divided into four groups: the control group and 0.5 mg/kg/day, 5 mg/kg/day, and 50 mg/kg/day dose BPA groups. The skeletal system development of fetuses was examined with double skeletal and immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining (tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) and the alkaline phosphatase (AP) expressions) methods. Results: The highest ossification rates in the humerus, radius, and ulna were detected as 41.05%, 39.25%, and 37.26% in the control group, respectively. The highest ossification rates in the femur, tibia, and fibula were detected as 23.04%, 30.73%, and 32.78% in the control group, respecti...

Twenty-eight, 10 week's Sprague Dawley male rats were divided into four groups (n = 7) as the control group, ethylene glycol (EG) group, M. communis (MC) group and protective (EG + MC) group. For 28 days, while 0.75% EG was given by adding it to drinking water to occur kidney stone model, MC was given by gavage to test the protective effect. 24 h' urine samples were taken, and calcium, creatinine, uric acid, magnesium, citrate and oxalate were evaluated. On the 28th day, the rats were sacrificed, and their kidneys were removed. Kidney tissues were examined with hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining and kidney stones formed with Pizzolato's (PZ) staining technique were shown. M. communis extract brought abnormal urine parameter values closer to the control group. Additionally, it was concluded that the tissue degeneration and number of stones decreased in the protective group. M. communis extract has a protective effect against the kidney stone modeling which created by EG.

Groups (n = 4) were formed as Control, LDC, HDC, LDC+melatonin, HDC+melatonin and melatonin. Fetuses were taken by cesarean section and stained using dual skeletal staining method and FESEM. TRAP and AP immune-reactivity concentrations were calculated. Oxidative stress and inflammatory markers were also measured by liver, bone and placenta samples. TNF-α, IL-1íŸ, IL-6, VEGF-A, SOST and Fetuin-A levels were measured in tissue by using ELISA. TBARS, SOD, GSH, GSSG, TOS, TAS, measured by spectrophotometric assay method. The mRNA levels of Agtr2 gene expressed in placental tissues of control rats and in placental tissues of rats exposed to HDC, LDC, MEL, HDC+MEL, LDC+MEL were analyzed by Real-time PCR. The gene expressions of Agtr2 were significantly upregulated in the placentas exposed to HDC, MEL, HDC...

It can get bigger sizes and can result in life-threatening outcomes if not detected early on. In this study, we aimed to determine the relationship between ascending aortic diameter and cardiac parameters that can be detected with tomography or/and echocardiography. Newly diagnosed (n: 85) ascending AA patients and healthy individuals (n: 86) who have not any thoracic pathology in computed tomography (CT) scans included to the study. Echocardiographically determined left atrial dimension (LAD), left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVDd), left ventricular end-systolic diameter (LVDs), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and the left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVPWd) values of each patient were recorded. The thorax diameters, ascending aorta diameters and c...
