GhosTV

Rate this book
For the past dozen years, Victor Bayne has solved numerous murders by interrogating witnesses only he can see—dead witnesses. But when his best friend Lisa goes missing from the sunny California campus of PsyTrain, the last thing he wants to find there is her spirit.

Disappearing without a trace in a school full of psychics? That's some trick. But somehow both Lisa and her roommate have vanished into thin air. A group of fanatics called Five Faith has been sniffing around, and Lisa's email is compromised.

Time is running out, and with no ghosts to cross-examine, Vic can't afford to turn down any offers of help. An old enemy can provide an innovative way to track Vic's missing friend, and he enters into an uneasy alliance—even though its ultimate cost will ensnare him in a debt he may never manage to settle.

I liked learning a bit more about the FPMP and the director. I thought the astral projection concept was a cool addition, and I definitely liked seeing more of Victor's abilities. The plot was pretty interesting this time, and did a decent job keeping me engaged.

Didn't love the ending where Jacob decides to start a new job without discussing with Victor first. It still kind of bothers me how much they conceal from one another.

And there were far fewer sex scenes, which was noticeable and kind of disappointing.

I’m in awe with how Jordan Castillo Price tops her own amazing each and every books. 😱 This series just got better and better! 😍 The longest audio in the series yet, our Vic and Jacob is still going strong. 💜 First of all, *le gasp* first role reversal between Vic and Jacob? I didn’t see that one coming! 😁 Of course, Vic being Vic, him topping the supremely macho Jacob was like a frog trying to climb the Mount Everest and funny and awkward as hell 😂 yet endearingly cute and hot! *fans myself and drink an ice cold glass of water* 🔥 Second, how cool is that to discover our Stiff is actually not so Stiff at all. Jacob the perfect boyfriend who has a serious psyche kink (don’t forget the huge ding dong 😂👏) has psychic powers of his own! *gasp again* 😱 I really REALLY didn’t see that one coming too. And the whole adventure of *mission rescue Lisa* was awesome. I think this may be the most cringe-worthy and scary villain so far in this series. Seriously, it’s creepy, frightening and gave me goosebumps. 😳😭 And so soooooo many revelations and yet not enough answers! I want more! *whines and sobs* 😭 And FPMP? I really need to find out which line do they stand. The good or the bad? And I loved Lisa in the beginning but wow, this gal is seriously grating on my nerves. 🙄 She needs to get her life like ASAP and stop making stupid, stupid mistakes. 🤬 I hope this whole debacle just nailed some sense into her. 😒 And the storyline was so enthralling and interesting that I didn’t realize there was only one love-making scene in this book. *wails* 😭 I need my dirty talker Jacob back. But that’s ok and I forgave JCP because this story is just awesome. 😌 And talking about dropping bombs in the end. *le gasp AGAIN* 😱 I really REALLY didn’t see that one coming. 😱 (Curious? You gotta listen or read yourself. I’m not going to spoon feed you spoilers 😜) I’m so freaking grateful that all available books in this series is already in my audible library and I can start listening to the next book in the series right now because I’m telling you, I’d get one more restraining order if I had to wait for the next book. 😂 Again, I can’t say enough of how talented and awesome Gomez Pugh is! 😍 Nails it every fucking single time! ❤️ I love you Gomez Pugh! 😘 And I thank Jordan Castillo Price for bringing this amazing and imperfectly perfect couple into this girl’s world. 😘

5 Jacob is seriously GaGa over Vic stars

Couldn't resist! LOVE these guys!!

**Back to review from before**

Oh PsyCop, how did you get me wrapped so tightly around your little finger?

I loved "GhosTV" so very much. So much that I'm in a brief mourning period because there are no other books left in the series. When is the next one going to come out!?! Anyway, this book was much longer than the previous ones, and felt more personal to me. We learned so much about all of the characters. Many things were brought to light; love, hate, insecurities, trust issues... it was a very revealing chapter in the PsyCop series. We also got to see some other aspects of Vic and Jacob's powers, which was both very cool and extremely creepy. I especially enjoyed learning about Constantine. Wow! I can't wait to find out where that angle leads.

This book is just perfectly orchestrated and so well thought out. I liked it better than the one before it, and I'm dying to see what Jordan Castillo Price has in store for her next installment.

4.4 Stars - Brilliant and hilarious fun once again

Book #6

Is this the craziest, weirdest, most interesting gay romantic GHOST series? Yeah, probably.

description description description description

PsyCop can't be compared with anything else I've read in any case. I maybe didn't love, or understand so much, in the start but thereafter did I start to luckily happy-dancing every time I finished a book from this fantastic world.

***********************************************************

Chicago nowadays or...?

The main characters are the PsyCop, Victor Bayne and his sexy lover, the detective Jacob Marks (..or: “Mister Tall, Dark and Infuriating”). They started quite surprising a steaming hot relationship in the first book. By now are they both love-partners, colleagues as PsyCop's and since a time are they living together in an old cannery.
 photo e7a0adb801f1e3686cd22ff5647f7dd6_zpsad3ab8dc.jpg

It's both interesting and fun to follow these two mens very odd and unpredictable relationship. ~ Steaming hot, inexplicably, surprisingly, outrageously wacky ...and it make these books even more unique for every new one. ~ Their way of express their feelings are also more delicate as the time goes.
”I never really understood how brave you are.”

***********************************************************

In this sixth book GhosTV is the main focus —aside Vic's and Jacob's developing relationship— on the mysterious case about a missing friend, a ghosTV, to become astral and much more.

Vic's bestie friend (the former PsyCop) Lisa isn't answering phone calls or emails so our friends decide to go down to California to find out what's going on at that PsyTrain school where Lisa is.
‘I kept catching glimpses of the two of us in our suits and sunglasses, half a head taller than everyone around us, striding along like we had an appointment at the Pentagon to rid the world of an alien threat—and I had to admit, it was pretty damn cool.’

Unfortunately are they also accompanied by Vic's most hated nemesis, the creepy Constantine Dreyfuss. A man we already know from past books. Dreyfuss is an agent and the Director for FPMP (Federal Psychic Monitoring Program) in the northwest region. FPMP is a secret mysterious agency which is constantly spying on Vic (and his ilk). But maybe is Dreyfuss a better man than Vic assume? Or not?

...There is at least a very special TV delivered. A TV Victor wished for.

“If a ghost doesn’t leak through the floor of a building, why would it fall through the hull of a plane?”
Brilliant. No, seriously, I meant it—brilliant. Why didn’t ghosts fall through the floor, and keep on falling until they hit either the center of the earth, or maybe China?’

***********************************************************

Another amusing fun and exiting spooky....
For me were the parts when Vic gush over his own poor physical status (this guy needs to boost his poor self-confidence) probably the best. Or maybe those scenes when Vic and Crash are funny and sweet to each other? Either way I don't think I ever laughed so much reading a PsyCop book as this time.
”Good thing all your friends are cops,” I said.
“Not all my friends.” He pressed his cheek to mine, and tilted his head slightly, so his skin brushed against mine. The bristle of his stubble dragging over my jaw sent a fresh bolt of gooseflesh down my arms. “Just the hot ones.”

YAY!! These PsyCop books are just better and better for every part I read. (Reviews for previous parts: )

***********************************************************

description Addictive good. I know I always repeat myself, haha. ~ Loved it, loved them. (Is it possible to love dear cranky Victor more then I do right now?)

Looking forward to the next part.

I LIKE - Yeah, I'm in loooove by now

Oh Hell Yes!
I love it when Vic and Jacob get to work together...
Plus, Vic finally gets his hands on a GhosTV...
I'd had proof, time and time again, that the boogie man and the monsters under the bed were real. Maybe what I'd never seen with my own eyes was the evidence that my own mojo was real, too.
Lisa goes missing and our favorite PsyCops are on the case. Before they have a chance to hop a flight to California, the Federal Psychic Monitoring Program (FPMP) pulls strings to detain Vic at the airport.

He's about two seconds away from being on the wrong end of a cavity search when Con Dreyfuss shows up with his unlimited influence and wealth to usher Jacob and Vic to California. Victor hates the idea of owing the FPMP a favor, but he's willing to take all kinds of risks to save Lisa from whatever horrible things are happening at PsyTrain.

PsyTrain triggers all kinds of Camp Hell flashbacks for Vic. Sure, the facility seems perfectly legit once you get past the part where psychs are disappearing without a trace... There's something lurking in that facility that has alarm bells ringing for both PsyCops...

VICTOR
Physically shielding myself was second nature for me by now, like blowing on my coffee to lessen the scald factor or positioning myself upwind of a rotting corpse.
Vic was a total badass in this book - he's been steadily honing his skills over the course of the series and all that hard work is paying off. There are no leads or valuable clues about the missing students, and when a professor disappears into thin air, it seems Vic is the only one with the skills to solve the case.

There are no ghosts lurking in the halls of PsyTrain - which is good, because it means that the missing Psychs are probably alive, but it means he's scraping for clues... Luckily, FPMP gifts him with a secret weapon - the GhosTV he's been lusting after. It's trial by fire as Jacob and Vic learn to manipulate the controls on the machine. The effects are staggering and make for some fantastic reading. We're treated to several new forms of psych talent as Vic subjects himself to the waves emanating from the Tv. Those scenes really stole the show in this book, and I look forward to seeing what else this technology is capable of.

JACOB
"I never really understood how brave you are."
Jacob's little PsyFetish really gets a work out in this book. Victor's badassadry is nothing short of legendary and Jacob gets a front row seat. Since conventional investigative work isn't really cutting it, Jacob serves as backup and an extra set of eyes.

They've faced off against ghosts side by side before, but this time its personal. They don't have any of the resources they would normally be able to pull from in Chicago, so they're forced to lean on that douche-bag Con Dreyfuss's contacts and connections. To his credit, Con seems to be genuinely invested in the case as he tags around behind Jacob and Vic, but who knows with that guy...

Over the course of this book, Vic discovers something no one else knows about the regional director of the FPMP...

This case is more than a little sticky...

There's an Anti-Psych organization working in California,
The GhosTV has Vic's ability off the scales in a dangerous way,
The man who has been tapping their phones is in the room next door,
Vic's old Camp Hell nemesis, Faun Windsong graces us with her obnoxious presence,

Plus, there's some seriously questionable vegan cuisine,
A pack of clueless Psych Students,
A spirit with a bone to pick,
A security guard with a pervy crush on poor Vic,
and Jacob drops a bomb nobody saw coming...

This book really took the series to new heights - it's been building in momentum for the last several installments and I'm becoming a little obsessed with Vic - my adorable, uber-psychic, endearingly neurotic, pill-popping, justifiably paranoid badass... I just want to give him a hug, even though he would be super awkward about it and not understand...

Side note: There was a moment in this book where Vic muses about topping Jacob, thinking:
I felt like a greyhound attempting to mount a mastiff whenever we changed things up...
...I swear I laughed so hard I had to put down the book 'cause there were tears in my eyes. There's a great deal of inadequacy racing through Vic's brain, and while it was handled in that signature humor rattling around in Vic's brain, it was still lovely to see that the relationship continues to evolve between these two...

Damn! this series keeps getting better and better.

-Vic is my one of my favorite characters. His snarky, sarcastic, self-deprecating humor is sooo good.

-The writing was good as usual, the mystery was so-so, but i still i liked it.

- Vic and Jacob got major chemistry going on and i enjoyed their interaction, though their communication sucks sometimes.

- The Ghost Tv and astral thing was creepy.

- Vic topping Jacob was hot and hilarious at the same time.

- I can't believe there was only one sex scene, i realized that when the book ended, i was so caught up in the story that i forgot about the sex.. I will let that go without a rant this time.

-Overall I enjoyed it! and was entertained for 12 hours.

I really liked this one, but some stuff was bothering me. I hated the fact that there were almost no sexscenes in this one. The previous book was so hot and then this one...I don't get it. The whole ghostv was kind of pissing me off too. I mean these books have been difficult enough to understand without all the extra ghostv stuff going on. Its starting to become less paranormal and more scifi. I also hated the ending. I mean WTF is Jacob thinking. He knows that Victor hates the fpmp...why would he do that to Victor. He doesn't even discuss it with him...oh what am I saying....they don't discuss shit ...I love them together but their relationship is very unhealthy and probably only based on sex, because they really don't talk to each other.

I don't know if I'm gonna read the last book (7)
Maybe saying goodbye now would be best, now that I still love Victor and Jacob.

Still 4 stars from me because Victor rocks !!!!!

By far the BEST storyline in the whole series. This was fascinating, fun, layered, and took the series, especially the psych-portion to an entirely new level. For paranormal fans, book 6 would satisfy.

However, as a follow-up to the delicious smut-fest that was book 5, this was ENTIRELY too TAME! I adored and reveled in the growth and now the security of the Vic/Jacob pairing...but I missed the SEX, oh, that hot hot SEX that was in "Camp Hell" prior.

Still, this book solidified Vic & Jacob as one of my FAVORITE M/M couples out there. We got to see more silliness & banter, total trust, vulnerability, dependency, and pure love between them...and THAT was well worth it.

I hate that there's not another book waiting for me to read. I will try and squeeze as much out of the shorts as I can. But, JCP...if happen to stumble upon this review...PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSEEEEEEEE...I need the next book...I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDD more! :)

Third listen/read Jan 2022: Freaking loved it again!!!

Original review:
******4.5 Stars*******
My FAVORITE PsyCop novel to date!!!!!! I absolutely loved this one (even having to read it on an iPhone!!).

My favorite thing: I saw growth, so much growth in Vic. He changed for me. I’ve always liked him, but I didn’t get him. Finally, I do. Why? Because he fought for something outside of himself—Lisa. He gained a totally new perspective on Jacob and physic abilities. He gained a new perspective on himself—and for once he wasn’t drowning the world out via medication.

Jacob, too, was portrayed differently at times. He was vulnerable and this made him much more human to me.

So I guess for me, aside from a kick ass plot, the reason I loved this 6th novel was because I could relate to the characters much more than I ever could before. They became three dimensional for me; they became real.

I know many of you have read this series and that I’m a little late to the party...so what I’m saying is nothing new.

For those of you who have yet to rsvp, what are you waiting for? Pick up the first book and get started!

GhostTV takes the main characters of Vic and Jacob out of town and to a new psych center to investigate the disappearance of their friend Lisa. I'm happy to say recruiter and secret government head honcho Con came along.

The writing style continues to be fun and easy to read - I love the author's sense of humor in the smallest of things. It amused my Vic, who tends to be neurotic about stuff, gets an inferiority complex about his thin frame thanks to a bitchy comment from Jacob's sister. He then has to research working out, making me laugh out loud on more than once occasion. It's not plot important but it makes the character more real, and it's just plain fun.

Con isn't quite a good guy really but he's intriguing. I like his persistence, his secrets, and how uncomfortable Vic gets around him. There's a pretty big change with him at the end of the story that especially affects Jacob, shakes the series up a bit.

Vic gets to explore his uber-powerful powers even further and discovers new ways to tap into his abilities potential. Awesome.

On another plus side, these books have always been relatively short, especially for a slightly higher digital price, but this one is novel length and delivers on all the fronts for length.

I think I enjoyed this book so much not only because of the story, but the humor is just that funny and casually convincing. It works to make this series - and author - really shine.

And damn those printers - always out of ink!

I was introduced to the PsyCop series last May. I was enthralled, read books one to five back to back and went on to vehemently pimp the series to anyone who would (or wouldn't) listen. Solid writing, interesting plot and humor. A world filled with ghost and psychics, but still so very real. Witty dialogues, hot sex and scenes so easy to visualize. And of course: Vic. Cynical, self deprecating Vic. What was not to love?

Safe to say I was highly anticipating the release of GhosTV... and I wasn't let down.

GhosTV has a different feel to it than the rest of the books. This time around, we're not with Vic on the job, but follow him in his downtime. Granted: there is another mystery to be solved (the missing of Lisa, si/no girl and Vic's best friend) but there's no Warwick, no Zig and no Carolyn. Instead Vic teams up with Jacob and together they travel to California, to visit PsyTrain. An unwelcome guest in the form of the always shabby FPMP agent Con Dreyfuss joins the party and he comes bearing gifts: a GhosTV.

The mystery plot was interesting, but like in the other books, at the end it's not really about the mystery itself but the journey it takes Vic on that makes the books so engaging.
The GhosTV played a key role in helping Vic learn more about his talents, and the scenes where he is wandering around in his astral form are priceless. I loved the different rules and appearances in the astral world, and I loved how it added a whole new layer to the characters.
The astral world also literally helped visualize the bond between Vic and Jacob. There was very little sex in this book (and the first sex scene wins the prize for most awkward but hot scene ever!) but the little moments between Vic and Jacob were extremely endearing and very romantic.

I had some minor peeves though. I was a bit confused by the reasoning behind the Five Faith cult because it didn't seem very consistent with the rest of the world building (as is described by Beanbag in her review). I was also surprised by a rather out of character action Jacob took by the end of the book (but I'll put it down to the cliff hanger ending). I was even more confused by the appeal of Lisa, because frankly: I didn't like her before the book and I liked her even less after finishing it.
But I console myself with the thought that I might have found a new infatuation: Con Dreyfuss. Yes, he is morally very ambiguous, yes he makes the okay sign way too many times, but the guy is just so interesting! And I can't help but picture him as a sexier version of The Dude.

All in all: GhosTV was another solid read and a great addition to the series, BUT it didn't manage to surpass Camp Hell as my favorite book of the series.

Wildly witty. Freaky fun. Spooky secrets.
Never a dull moment for my favorite supernatural couple and things kick it up a notch in the psychic world with this sixth installment in the series.
By now we know Vic pretty darn well.
Nearly half a dozen previous books have gifted us with the ins and outs of Victor Bayne.
We know (okay, okay, so maybe I adore and covet a bit too) Jacob through Vic’s all-seeing eyes and how they fit together seamlessly.
What we don’t know is who is watching them, what they want and where Lisa has disappeared to.
A whole heap of trouble tags after Vic and his goal of invisibility is fruitless. Conspiracy theory, bribes and mysterious evaporations thicken the plot.

A trip to PsyTrain tosses us into Psychic 101 and I seriously considered taking notes. Unfortunately, my notes would probably have matched Vic’s and I was thankful things were broken down to the cliff notes version.
Astral projection?
Ectoplasm goo?
Yep, it was trippy to say the least.

Vic and Jacob partnered together ‘on the job’ was awesome! The strengths they pull off one another benefit them on the field, and they prove their badass ghost-fighting skills again and again. I was surprised with certain insecurities that came to light, but it only deepens my love for them.
It is quite refreshing to have a real couple with real bumps in the road, even when placed in such an unrealistic world.
JCP’s writing never fails to hit all the high marks, and Vic’s inner voice is a comical promise.
As much as this book is storyline driven it is still heavily focused on the characters, and that in my opinion, is a balance that few authors have mastered.

Though the steam factor may have simmered down, my attention has yet to falter and with the cliffy ending I am eagerly jumping with both feet into book 7. Seven, just wait till Jacob hears that!!

Still one of the best in the series, especially for the parts revolving around the relationship between Vic and Jacob. I love how Vic (and the reader) gets to see

I see I mentioned almost liking Crash in my original review…my account must have been hacked. Okay, I’ll admit that he wasn’t as annoying as he usually is, but that’s as far as I can go. I also noticed that

What can I add that I haven’t already said about the previous books?
As usual, great writing and plot. I loved Vic and Jacob working together, so much that

One thing’s for sure, when I decide to do a reread I’ll have to get the audiobooks; if the narrator is as good as everybody says, that athletic thing going on in Vic’s head throughout the whole book is going to be hilarious on audio, especially the exchange with Crash.
Speaking of Crash, I almost liked him in this book. It only took 6 books, at this pace he’ll become my favorite character in no time at all.

I’m still really enjoying my Psycop series re-read, but just as the first time I read this book, I’m not so sure about the more serious atmosphere. The earlier books were just more fun.

And I’m still not sure about Con Dreyfuss, even though I have to admit that he was particularly amusing in this.

I’m sure I've said this before but, JCP makes me want to clutch this book and do a spiny twirl making a stupid eeeeeeek sound.

I got so excited. So Happpeeeee …and so pissed when real life got in my way!
I loved everything about this one, it was so much fun! Ghostly goop and all.

Jacob Mc Buffstuff is such a friggin dream boat isn’t he? I love that Mr Muscle showed a vulnerable side, it just makes him SO much more appealing.

Victor freaking Bane!!! How can a character be so perfectly IMPERFECT ?!
I more than adore him; I kind of want to BE him but that would make it weird because I also think he’s hot! It must be the new haircut (lol), cos all of a sudden I’m finding him quite smelt-worthy. I want to lick the scowl off his face and bury my nose in his hair and get my short legs all tangled up with his long skinny ones. I swear if JCP ever stops writing about him, I’m going to be devastated!

And Crash! There’s never enough Crash (now that I know he’s not a threat to JaVic .. not really, right?) I’m seriously thinking of taking my Reiki Mastership to the next level and learning to how cross over into the fictional realm, then me and Crash can do some nasty tantric in the astral because phew, that man is yummy. I really hope I get more Crash in Spook Squad *fingers crossed*

I don’t think there was a character that I didn’t like here. Even Dreyfuss (FPMP dude-Vic’s nemesis) proved to intrigue and entertain me – what an interesting chap he’s turned out to be!

The plot was brilliant! JCP is just so SMART!! I loved this one; it’s one of my faves in the series so I’m rounding up.

I will do an overall review of the series here because I snuck and finished it when I was supposed to be doing other things.

These books are addictive and I love Vic. I love his voice and the way he views the world. I love his flaws and his dependency issues (okay, that sounded odd but you get me). I didn't care for the boyfriend at first, but even he slowly grew on me. I had some issues with a couple of the books, but overall, I think this series is fantastic. The characters feel authentic (even fake-bf as I call him, because in life there is always a semi-distant, self-absorbed fake-bf), the writing is AWESOME, the plot is intriguing, and I love how the supernatural stuff is woven in.

The subplots weren't always that mysterious or interesting, but I liked how the main couple went from being distant and almost uninvolved in each other's lives to being partners and equals.

I would say out of everything I've read in the past year or two, this is my favorite M/M series and contains my favorite books.

This series has always been a favorite, and with this story everything steps up a notch. Everything just works, from the case to the world building and especially the relationship between Vic and Jacob.

Jacob's always come across as uber-confident, but he does have some insecurities and I love how they're explored here, with both humor and humble honesty . Along with seeing how , there's no way anyone can read this and think that Jacob's just in it for psych fetish.

We also get more about the FPMP and what exactly Dreyfuss's job is and what he really wants with Vic . Even Crash wasn't annoying and had some good zingers.

That one niggle aside, this story flows well and brings all the characters several steps further in their journeys and opens up so much more to this world and potential storylines, especially with Jacob

Sooo many questions; very few answers.

That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the latest installment in this quirky, sexy series. The author has definitely expanded this world from typical "day in the life" adventures of humble detective Victor Bayne, and has elevated it to "what new powers" will be discovered today??

The stakes are definitely higher as Vic and Jacob try to find Lisa. They need help and it's oh-so-convenient that sinister (?) agent Con Dreyfuss is there to lend a hand for a due repayment in kind. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't; how much of themselves are they willing to sacrifice for the resources and answers they so desperately want?

This was probably the funniest, most emotional installment yet as Vic's insecurities almost get the best of him. But he's stubborn and has inner strength and conviction he didn't even know he had. Charmingly dorky and unassuming it's no wonder that Jacob and others are smitten. I loved the new insights to these two and hope for more revelations and bigger proclamations. Like the last few installments, this ends with quite a shocking turn of events, and it remains to be seen how Vic's new powers change his life for the better and hopefully, not for the worse.

Ingela and Sofia, as always I enjoyed laughing and swooning with you!!

So much awesome!

I've loved these books for years. In each one, the alternate universe becomes more and more fully realized, and Victor's character emerges from the shadows of anti-hero-dom to the thin sunshine of the wistful hero.

In GhosTv, while searching frantically for his friend, Victor also experiences personal insecurity (not difficult, since his lover is a god) and a few empathic epiphanies with his arch-nemesis, the director of all things covert and psychic. He grows as a character, his powers grow and become more controlled in scope, and we get to see Victor, Jacob, and the director with a few of their defenses down. Jacob's old lover, Crash, makes a few memorable appearances (how could his appearances NOT be memorable?) and Victor finally (!) gets to see himself as Jacob does--the moment does not disappoint.

As a whole, this was a taut, exciting paranormal thriller with characters I always hate to leave. What's not to love?

Strongest book in the series so far. I think Price has finally figured out how to write a solid mystery and how to balance the various elements of mystery, psychics, and personal drama. Even the sex scenes had plot relevance

EDIT: I re-read this book this weekend to ready my body for PsyCop 7! I devoured this book in one really hungover afternoon.

I will try to keep this review short and sweet. Oh and spoilers probably because I go on tangents.

Guys, Vic is so badass. I love that pill-popping son of a gun. He makes me laugh more often than not, and usually does things that typical MC's don't, even when I want them to. Vic is your man for unconventional MC/hero behavior. You know who else I like? Jacob. Because he's a total fangirl, just like me.
I don't particularly care for Lisa. I don't know.. she just hasn't grown on me. I liked her in the first book, but after that I kinda don't care. Everyone's all "Omg where's Lisa?" and I'm like "Leave the bitch." but I guess that wouldn't make a good book, huh? Ha!
Know who else is awesome? Dreyfuss. I love him. He's what... an anti-hero? A helpful villain? Who know! But I like him and his weirdo hippie vibe. I bet he did a lot of LSD in his youth.

This book was awesome. It was different from the others, but it was compelling and weird and I really didn't know who the 'bad guy' was until JCP let the MCs find out, which was awesome for me.

Okay, now I'm read for the next book! *rubs hands together anxiously*

Crash crash crash crash crash crash crash crash crash crash crash crash!
By the end of this book I was fangirling hard for Crash.. obviously..
So here's an illustration I did of Crash during my obsession!

...

Sorry, got distracted. I really love Crash.
I liked this story a lot. It might have been my least favorite of the series.. but still loved it. I thought it was weird that Jacob now has an ability... and some of the stuff in this book was so far out it was hard for me to wrap my mind around it.
Still, awesome book and I'm sad I don't have another one to start reading immediately...

After realizing Lisa is missing, Victor and Jacob have to accept help from an unlikely party for the sake of expediency.

The whole book has a bit of a claustrophobic feeling to it. Almost the whole book takes place in one building and a huge part of it is in a tiny room. Before their trip to the West Coast, Victor's insecurities comes out to play. Again. So he spends most of his time freaking out over one thing or another so when something really weird happens, he doesn't break a sweat. No more than usual anyway.

They work together and how that works out is lovely to see. They are flawless together even with insecurities.
' Everything around us felt wrong, smelled wrong, tasted wrong. Every sensory detail I experienced reminded me I was no longer home, and I'd been ripped out of comfort zone. Jacob, though...Jacob felt right.'
That pretty much sums up them being and working together. It is wonderful to see it.

From new abilities to people he knew at Camp Hell to the search for a missing friend to a special delivery of a GhostTV, Victor's hands are full.

I don't want to like Crash but this book wore me down. It's impossible not to like him here.

I'm not too crazy about that last scene in the book though () because it made the ending abrupt.

This is a review for all the books/side stories so far because I read them all in a row.

I really like this series. I enjoy the characters-- all of them, in fact. I can't think offhand of one character I viscerally dislike.

I especially love Vic because he's awesome. I love his voice-- more than once I laughed at a line and a couple of times I even took the time to highlight it on my nook to be able to pull up later. I like that even though he's been through a lot of shit, even when he's thinking about it he's not dwelling on it in a way that doesn't make sense. If that makes sense.

I totally thought Jacob was someone else entirely for the first two books or so-- I kept thinking he was going to turn out to be a bad guy because the way he appeared and went full-on on Vic, and then kept seeming to be such a good guy, and such forth, made me distrust his motives. Kind of funny when you think about it. But I like Jacob a lot so I'm glad he isn't sekritly!evil after all.

It surprises me a bit that I like him as much as I do because I don't usually think super muscly dudes is that attractive, visually or as a mental image, but Jacob's such a sweetheart that his looks/physical presence is a nice counterpoint/layer that only adds to it.

Also does anyone else sometimes find themselves thinking of Monstroso from Venture Bros when they imagine him? lol

(minus the devil hat) On the job:

Off duty:

COME ON.

I digress.

I like that the female characters aren't a bunch of crazy bitches and I like Crash a lot too. And Maurice. And Dreyfuss.

So again. I enjoy the characters.

I think the books are definitely getting better as they go because the complexity has been increasing. Along with that, we've been getting more shades of spooky supernatural things, which makes me really happy because I enjoy that aspect of it. I look forward to the next book and at the moment am cursing myself for not waiting one damn week to start the series so that I could have just plowed on into the 7th as well.

Oh well. Live and learn.

Vic is getting annoyed with his own insecurities. Is this an inevitable result of the deepening relationship and life he's sharing with Jacob? A result of this a much more internalized feel to Vic's telling of this story. He's engaging it like gangbusters, his mind covering so much mileage. 'Course, given the situation in which he and Jacob find themselves, and with whom, it's not a surprise that things shift into overdrive on several fronts at once.

Dreyfuss. Part of me loves his unrelenting attitude and ability to put Vic on edge, to keep him off-kilter in their interactions. Of course, on the flip side, I want to strangle him because of those abilities. Me no likey when Vic's doubts start to overwhelm him. On the flippy flip side? Vic and Jacob depend on each other in ways they never have before. I likey that a lot.

Vic's humor is also on full display here. His unique mix of cynicism and insecurity creates for some of the best narration I've experienced. Even when things get deep into the detail of the paranormal activities, I felt like I couldn't get enough.

... I like to keep my bewilderment to myself when I can help it.

This is one of but a myriad delicious regular ol' folk things Vic expresses, whether to himself or actually aloud to someone else.

Some of my favorite books are those born of a mash up of ingredients that create an unusual overall feel. Paranormal with retro technology, secret agencies that don't always seem too talented in keeping those secrets, coppers and psychs working together and battling with surprising results, and coincidences. This translates to quite a plummet in predictability and I love that.

Vic and Jacob. They're such and interesting, meaty, and flat out fun duo, both in their professional and personal relationships. Neither one demonstrates much hesitancy anymore in expressing how they feel, asking for what they need, and reading each other to then determine the next step in whatever they're dealing with. At the same time, they can still surprise each other. Sometimes this is appreciate and sometiiiiiiiimes, not so much. Like I said, fun.

Vic is becoming more accepting and appreciative, and therefore confident, of his abilities.

I'd had proof, time and time again, that the boogie man and the monsters under the bed were really real. Maybe what I'd never seen with my own eyes was the evidence that my own mojo was real, too.

Vic is like all of us, trying to find ways to cope with everything life throws at him without losing who he is and actually wanting a meaningful life, especially with Jacob. What he's also starting to accept is that he probably has even more than that in Jacob's family (some of them, anyway), Lisa and even Crash.

Now... what about that super secret agency that keeps trying to recruit Vic? And could things get even creepier and cooler than the ectoplasm and astral strolls up and down the hall ways... and through the walls and floors?

The Book were Victor is Hungry
And has good Hair
And is generally all over Awesome.
A good one in this series. Great execution. JCP writes about perspective, seamlessly woven in, in both the real world and the other planes we encounter in this particular world. Perspective, how we see our selves, how we see others, how we see what's happening around us, how others see us, what others say to us and how this says more of how they see themselves and the world rather than what they see in us. Much food for thought if one is inclined to ponder.

This series is leading me places where I had not seen the characters going. It is all JCP' s fault really, she obfuscates and changes the cards on the table. Very sleight of hand of her. Great though, I like that.

BR with Ingela and RA you're great as always....

This is one series that you can be totally lost with if you don't start at the beginning and sometimes you may still feel a bit lost. Each story builds on the previous ones, and the characters grow and mature, unlike many series where each installment is interchangeable, and the characters just never change for good or bad. The two main characters, Vic and Jacob are partners at work and partners in their private lives. This story seemed to be a little subdued when compared to the tone of other books in the series. There's less light sarcasm and more true bitterness. There's definitely humor in this book, but I didn't laugh nearly as often with this one as I did while reading earlier ones. Unlike with the previous stories, this one doesn't so much end on a high note. It doesn't have a bad ending, but I wasn't as happy when I finished it. Jordan Price writes very well, but for some reason this one just fell a little short for me when compared to the earlier stories in the series. Victor seemed to be less happy, not just because of complications resulting from his ability, but also because his and Jacob's relationship isn't in a particularly smooth place. I sincerely hope things improve for them in future books.
