”I never really understood how brave you are.”
‘I kept catching glimpses of the two of us in our suits and sunglasses, half a head taller than everyone around us, striding along like we had an appointment at the Pentagon to rid the world of an alien threat—and I had to admit, it was pretty damn cool.’
“If a ghost doesn’t leak through the floor of a building, why would it fall through the hull of a plane?”
Brilliant. No, seriously, I meant it—brilliant. Why didn’t ghosts fall through the floor, and keep on falling until they hit either the center of the earth, or maybe China?’
”Good thing all your friends are cops,” I said.
“Not all my friends.” He pressed his cheek to mine, and tilted his head slightly, so his skin brushed against mine. The bristle of his stubble dragging over my jaw sent a fresh bolt of gooseflesh down my arms. “Just the hot ones.”
I'd had proof, time and time again, that the boogie man and the monsters under the bed were real. Maybe what I'd never seen with my own eyes was the evidence that my own mojo was real, too.Lisa goes missing and our favorite PsyCops are on the case. Before they have a chance to hop a flight to California, the Federal Psychic Monitoring Program (FPMP) pulls strings to detain Vic at the airport.
Physically shielding myself was second nature for me by now, like blowing on my coffee to lessen the scald factor or positioning myself upwind of a rotting corpse.Vic was a total badass in this book - he's been steadily honing his skills over the course of the series and all that hard work is paying off. There are no leads or valuable clues about the missing students, and when a professor disappears into thin air, it seems Vic is the only one with the skills to solve the case.
"I never really understood how brave you are."Jacob's little PsyFetish really gets a work out in this book. Victor's badassadry is nothing short of legendary and Jacob gets a front row seat. Since conventional investigative work isn't really cutting it, Jacob serves as backup and an extra set of eyes.
I felt like a greyhound attempting to mount a mastiff whenever we changed things up......I swear I laughed so hard I had to put down the book 'cause there were tears in my eyes. There's a great deal of inadequacy racing through Vic's brain, and while it was handled in that signature humor rattling around in Vic's brain, it was still lovely to see that the relationship continues to evolve between these two...
' Everything around us felt wrong, smelled wrong, tasted wrong. Every sensory detail I experienced reminded me I was no longer home, and I'd been ripped out of comfort zone. Jacob, though...Jacob felt right.'That pretty much sums up them being and working together. It is wonderful to see it.
The Book were Victor is HungryA good one in this series. Great execution. JCP writes about perspective, seamlessly woven in, in both the real world and the other planes we encounter in this particular world. Perspective, how we see our selves, how we see others, how we see what's happening around us, how others see us, what others say to us and how this says more of how they see themselves and the world rather than what they see in us. Much food for thought if one is inclined to ponder.
