Merry Christmas

What would Christmas be for me without my annual posting of the tipsy Kim Wilde and her brother on a train to Cockfosters (school boy snigger), singing Kids in America and a Christmas song.

I recently watched a short doco about George Michael with a title starting with Wham. George Michael's Greatest Hits was the last CD I bought, in the mid noughties. It was only when I really listened to Wham's/Georges'  music, did I realise just what a great singer he was. I think his song Last Christmas is used as musak but it really is a great song, with George in excellent voice.

The snow scenes in this clip were filmed near a village called Saas-Fee in Switzerland and it is a luscious location. I think the documentary I watched was made at Christmas last year and a non conventional but really cool statue was unveiled with attendance by Andrew Ridgeley and some others close to George, George having died in 2016. The villagers' sang along to Last Christmas with minimal instruments  to guide them.

Merry Christmas to all and I will return in a few days after Christmas.

  2. The villagers singing "Last Christmas" with minimal instruments must have created an intimate and moving atmosphere, honoring George Michael's legacy in a beautiful and heartfelt way. It's wonderful to hear how communities come together to celebrate and remember the impact of his music and life.

  4. George Michael died? I must have been hiding under my rock that day. Last Christmas might be a very fine song, but I've heard far too much of it lately. Merry Christmas.

  6. Drive carefully. There is too much drink on the roads.

  7. Merry Christmas Andrew! You know, I'd forgotten completely that George Michael died. And 8 years ago too. Ye gods, time is rushing by.

  9. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, though I'm certain it was, at best, bittersweet. ~hugs~ George Michael was fabulous. I seem to recall a rare yard sale trip with a friend in the 1990's during which I purchased a cassette tape released by Wham. Travel safe!

  10. I checked out Kim Wilde and sure enough I had an absolutely unbearable mad crush on her dad when I was about 14. Marty Wilde the singer. My heart still pounds when I think of it all. I gather he's still going and performing. Wowser is all I can say.

  12. It is amusing that the two blokes to the left of the Kim Wilde video hardly react to what is going on right next to them. Perhaps they are deaf or mentally deranged.
