Painted Christmas Rose

I was going through my stash recently and rekindled my interest in acrylic gouache (essentially a thick acrylic which allows it to be more opaque). Because of the paint's opacity, it makes it perfect for coloring on dark colors.  Talk about drama!

Notes:
  • I use white with the basic colors to create my shades. The non-whitened color is the shadow then I worked my way out from there with increasing white.
  • The paint is thick and will thicken further over time.  You can add a tiny bit of water but beware of adding too much as it will affect the opacity.
  • I like the texture so don't worry too much about viscosity. I can always go back and add another layer if necessary.
I'm entering this in Allsorts #650 Christmas.

Happy Graduation!

I can't believe my first great nephew is graduating high school.  I can remember changing his diapers.  Wait, no I can't because I'm the aunt and you can have your baby back, thank you very much. LOL.

He's hoping to enter the Air Force so I used an aviation theme for the card. I'm really quite pleased with how this turned out, especially for using boy blues. It was really hard not to add a dash of magenta as is my wont; I made do with the yummy yellow.

Whimsy - Ruff Day

Woof! Woof!  The April Whimsy release is here and I'm here to shout it out to the world! Except I'm wearing a cone and it's all your fault. :(

LOL.  I love this pup from the Cone of Shame set. Just look at his face! Enough said!

I stamped the Cone of Shame image and sentiment with VersaFine Onyx Black onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper.  Everything is colored with Zig Realbrush Markers.  I was really hesitant about adding the freehand tree as I really liked how the dog & house image turned out but decided to just bite the bullet. Whew!  Turned out better than I was hoping!

That red is so swoon-worthy! But still, my favorite part of the card is the dog's expression!
