Hello, Zawed,
Hmmmm. You wrote two very lengthy and incisive GAN reviews over a holiday season. You just may be suffering from a well-earned case of burnout. Understandable. However, I am curious as to when I can expect the return of Zawed the Intrepid.
Please understand I am not crowding you for the GAN on Noltenius. I so respect your reviews, I am content to wait. Meantime, I moved on to an article that drastically needed a rewrite: Erwin Böhme. I rewrote it from texts from my personal bookshelf, so it is 100% verified "actual factual". You will probably be thrilled to know I used 'sfnp' cites, even if I do not understand them. I just posted the rewritten version of Erwin Böhme, and plan to let the new version gather more categories, etc for a while before nominating it for, you got it, GA status. More later, I guess.Georgejdorner (talk) 23:12, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi George, that review is on my radar to do, it is just that I keep getting distracted by other projects! I will get to it shortly. Zawed (talk) 00:44, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- Not a prob. Everybody (except maybe me) has a real life outside WP, and I try to keep that in mind.Georgejdorner (talk) 06:28, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Haane Manahi scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that Haane Manahi has been scheduled as WP:TFA for 1 February 2021. Please check that the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/February 1, 2021. Thanks! Ealdgyth (talk) 15:30, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Asking a favour
Hi Zawed, that was an impressively thorough review of Battle of Heraklion. Thank you. If you have the time and the inclination, a review of my current FAC, Battle of Inverkeithing, would be much appreciated. Obviously, if time or motivation don't permit that's not a problem. Thanks. I have a little new year's song on the Main page, happy 2021! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:04, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
Perfect timing: thank you today for Haane Manahi, "from New Zealand, a Māori soldier of the Second World War and a recipient of the Distinguished Conduct Medal. He had been recommended for the Victoria Cross for an action at Takrouna in Tunisia in 1943 but this was downgraded to the DCM, which has since been the source of some angst."! ... and I don't recall a shorter time between promotion and appearing! - I have a FAC open, DYK? - Have a good (sort of) new year! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:03, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks Gerda! Hope you are well in these unusual times. Zawed (talk) 08:16, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (New Zealand)
On 10 February 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (New Zealand), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that members of the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps of New Zealand were known as Tuis, after a native bird? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (New Zealand). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (New Zealand)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Battle of Rethymno
Hi Zawed. You generously reviewed this at ACR. It is now at FAC and I wonder if you would care to look at it again to see to what extent it meets this higher standard? Gog the Mild (talk) 16:00, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, happy to stop by and have another look. Will leave it for a few days though, for more of a "fresh eyes" review. Hey, do you have capacity for a source review at the A-class review of Thomas Cooke (soldier, born 1881)? No problem if you don't. Cheers, Zawed (talk) 22:19, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Des Scott
Great to see Des Scott is GA -- nice one. But there is something which has me scratching my head -- Having been promoted to squadron leader, Scott was posted to Bentley Priory, the headquarters of Fighter Command, in a staff role for six months. While at Bentley, he was part of a group working on night-fighting tactics. During this time, he was awarded a bar to his DFC for his later service with No. 3 Squadron.
Later service? Cheers. Moriori (talk) 19:37, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
- Moriori, thanks for the feedback. That "later service" is a clumsy effort to refer the period he served with No. 3 Squadron after receiving the DFC. I didn't want readers to think it had been awarded as a result of his staff duties. I'll have a go at rephrasing shortly. Zawed (talk) 07:42, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Kia ora!
Kia ora Zawed, just wanted to drop you a note as I recently came across your article on Ropata Wahawaha and wanted to compliment you on the great work! I'm also one of the NZ editors active in the Aotearoa NZ user group and as part of our promotions of NZ WP content I featured the article on the public-facing Facebook page (Wikipedia Aotearoa New Zealand). It has generated a bit of interest and it was great to be able to feature quality content on a NZ topic. Cheers! MurielMary (talk) 09:09, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- Apologies, I should have also invited you to join the Wikipedia NZ group on facebook! The group has about 170 members and is a closed group for editors to discuss matters related to editing. The page (mentioned above, where I shared your article) is a public page. You're welcome to join the group if you'd like! MurielMary (talk) 20:39, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- MurielMary, thank you for the compliment. That article is up for GA review at the moment so hopefully it won't be long before it is promoted. Battle of Prison Valley
Good. You're on. Thank you. I have a couple of upgrades aimed towards FA which I am currently trying to wrap up. (Third English Civil War and Battle of Halidon Hill.) While I am doing that I will put out some feelers for a map. Meanwhile I have made a tentative start - User:Gog the Mild/Battle of Prison Valley - largely cut and pasted from the other landings. Feel free to play around there. Once I have put my current pair to bed I will start adding text myself in a serious way. How does that sound?
Once this is done we can may be think about Battle of Maleme, Retreat to Sfakion and even Battle of Crete. Gog the Mild (talk) 10:45, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- Crikey, that was a quick response. Am about to head off to bed myself. Tomorrow I'll grab my Crete books from the office and start thinking about setting the scene at Prison Valley. Later on I would be particularly interested in Maleme given the NZ involvement there. Zawed (talk) 10:52, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

I don't often venture into this area, but I've created a military bio: Les Pearce. I'm sure you have heaps of sources in your private library with which to improve this. Schwede66 22:52, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- I'll have a look. I have the official histories for NZ in Korea and the Vietnam war so may be able to add some content from those but I don't have much else for the post-WWII period. Zawed (talk) 09:59, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- I've written another bio that might interest you: John White (jurist) Schwede66 12:25, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

- The Dominion Post obituary is quite an interesting read; Freyberg had some very complimentary things to say about White. I wonder where the 1944 photo showing Freyberg and White comes from. It's not in the National Library collection. I've made a category of all the war photos that White took that I could find. Schwede66 23:08, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

- Aussie Article Writer, thank you for the kind words and for looking at this article, much appreciated. Reviewing the GA review page itself, I notice that it looks like you used a review template from a failed GA nomination, as some of the language e.g. the header portion and the final paragraph refers to a failed nomination. Could I trouble you to revise this for consistency so as to avoid confusion for other readers? Thanks, Zawed (talk) 01:35, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nomination period closing soon
Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are still open, but not for long. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! No further nominations will be accepted after that time. Voting will commence on 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:43, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
