Handball Euro articles

[edit]

What is your problem with the 2030/32 men's and women's EHF Euro articles? They meet all requirements and in the past, these were already created after the bids were announced. I put these articles in my sandbox for future use so you will always have a problem with it. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 10:57, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you provide a link to the articles, ILoveSport2006? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 14:35, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
2032 European Women's Handball Championship, 2030 European Women's Handball Championship, 2030 European Men's Handball Championship, 2032 European Men's Handball Championship. All deleted even though they meet requirements. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 14:40, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ILoveSport2006: These pages were recreated following a deletion discussion, primarily because it's too soon to create the article: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2032 European Women's Handball Championship, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2030 European Women's Handball Championship, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2030 European Men's Handball Championship, and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2032 European Men's Handball Championship. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 16:09, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is not what I'm asking. That was back in January. Back then, no official bids were confirmed but in June 2024, the official bids came out and thus, I brought the articles back. So why are they being deleted now? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 16:29, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Explicit, Theleekycauldron, Liz: Would you like to provide input on this since you officially deleted the articles? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:41, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Again, that's not what I am asking. Why did have they been deleted again now? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 23:45, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Significa liberdade @Explicit @Theleekycauldron @Liz Can I have a response? It's has been three days people. Why were my pages deleted when at the same stage of the bidding process in the past (back in 2021 for the 2026/2028 EHF Euro), the articles were already created and validated. So am I not allowed a response from people who probably don't even know what articles I am talking about and or remember that they deleted them? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 21:56, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I s'pose they're not "substantially identical" if they've passed the bidding stage, although I don't think that addresses the reason for deletion – there's not much to say here, it's too early. I'm happy to restore it and someone can take it to AfD, I guess? theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 22:10, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Theleekycauldron Can you do that please? I would really appreciate it.
People have started editing those pages probably thinking this would continue to exist.
@Significa liberdade deleted it saying that it needs to be speedily deleted because it was a article that had already been deleted prior (or something along the lines of that. But before the articles are inevitably deleted because when I contest it, my voice doesn't matter, I copy them all for future use when more info comes out so @Significa liberdade will always have a problem with them if that's his problem with the articles.
So when the official bids came out in June, I brought back the pages and I think they were 100% wrongfully deleted. I could understand the deletion a bit more in January 2024, but since then, with the official bids being known, they shouldn't have been deleted again. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 22:38, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ILoveSport2006: As I note, I did not delete the articles. I nominated them for speedy deletion, and then one of the editors I named above actually deleted the articles. Articles previously deleted via discussion may be tagged for speedy deletion, but then not deleted because they are significantly different from the previous article or enough has changed. For example, there may be a deletion discussion about an actor early in their career where the community decides the person is not notable enough for Wikipedia's standards. A few years later, another editor may create a new page, and an editor like myself might see the page was deletion via discussion and tag is for speedy deletion. Then another editor with special privileges might look at the article and say, "This actor has received much more media coverage than the last discussion, so I reject the speedy deletion." In the case of the handball articles, it's up to that editor to determine if the new article has enough sources and is different enough from the previous articles to determine it is no longer too soon for the articles. Does that make sense? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 23:06, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've undeleted the two I deleted. Someone else is welcome to take them to AfD if they want to. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 07:04, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Deep (Dunmore novel)

[edit]

Hi, just letting you know I reverted your redirect of this article. I honestly don't have a problem with merging the book articles with the Ingo tetralogy article, but it should be all four novels. Just taking out one leaves an annoying gap; it bothers me. -- Robina Fox (talk) 14:16, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Robina Fox: Can you find sources to establish notability for this article? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 14:19, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I added a couple of refs. Not very substantial, but still... -- Robina Fox (talk) 15:43, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @Robina Fox: Thanks for adding those sources! However, when adding sources to an article, please make sure the sources are reliable, independent, and provide significant coverage of the subject. This is how notability is established. Another user has determined that the sources added were not adequate to establish notability. one of many indian users with lack of language/writing/formal skills, i notice around sport pages; ban would be very helpful. regards! Cenderabird (talk) 15:11, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Cenderabird: We typically don't ban user simply because they lack writing skills as they can contribute to Wikipedia in multiple ways beyond writing, such as by adding citations. Further, pages can be tagged to note there are grammatical issues, which another editor can address without necessary creating the content. If you think this editor is otherwise engaging in question able behaviour, I recommend checking out Wikipedia's article about bans. RfA nomination?

[edit]

Hey there, Significa liberdade! Clovermoss and I have been working together to find users who would make great candidates at RfA and great admins – I was a little surprised to see your name on the list, because I thought you were an admin already! I've seen your name around a bunch, with only positive impressions. You have a great content record, do lots of work in admin-like spaces, and seeing the way you handled this thread on your talk only convinced me more. If you're interested in becoming an admin, let me know! We can talk more here, or you can find me on email or Discord (same username). thanks :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 21:00, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Theleekycauldron (and Clovermoss)! Thank you for the kind words! I mainly haven't considered RfA because I'm not sure how I would use any of the additional privileges given my current strengths, background, interests, etc. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 21:23, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You might find my approach to this in my RfA interesting because I also didn't have a strong "need" for the tools. I genuinely believe that a few more people pitching in where they can is good but I also understand completely if the RfA process itself makes you hesitant. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:33, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded – we could always use more admins who are willing to help out wherever they can. If you're looking for a place to get comfortable with the tools, I think you could put your experience at CSD and AfD to good use dealing with other people's nominations :) from there, you can branch out! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 21:56, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

I fail to see how an article about the family of three Japanese Prime Ministers is not notable per WP:NPOV. There are articles about notable political families such as the Kennedy family or Udall family. The article does need expansion, not removal. --Plumber (talk) 21:33, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Plumber! Thanks for reaching out with your concern. The article for the Satō–Kishi–Abe family has not been removed from Wikipedia; rather, it have been moved into the draft space, where you and others can continue working on it. It was moved to the draft space because it only used a single source. If you look at the other articles you mentioned (i.e., about the Kennedys and the Udalls), you'll notice that they have many sources to highlight the families' notability. As an autoconfirmed user, you may move the Satō–Kishi–Abe family article back into the main space if you object to the draftification, though I would suggest adding at least 1-2 more sources before doing so. Take care, Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 01:33, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification, I was not fully aware of how the draft space worked. --Plumber (talk) 15:58, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tim Bowden

[edit]

I see you have "Books: removed primary refs" from the article on Tim Bowden. It would be helpful if you point me to the guideline that specifies this should be the case. Oronsay (talk) 01:52, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Oronsay! Thanks for reaching out with your question. For the Tim Bowden article, I removed the references in the book section and replaced the name of the book with {{citation}}/{{cite book}}. As such, the full reference for each book is there, but it doesn't show up as an in-text citation. I don't know if there is a specific policy about this, but it is common practice for articles relating to authors. Feel free to revert if you find policy or think it's better off the other way. =) Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 02:10, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your prompt reply. On reflection, it looks better now. Oronsay (talk) 03:06, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The ISBN format can be very difficult to access info compared to Trove entries where internally the trove link has much more reader friendly information: an exmaple might be McCrae, Hugh; McCrae, Hugh, 1876-1958. Poems. Selections (1911), Satyrs and sunlight (Second ed.), Thomas C. Lothian, retrieved 8 September 2024{{citation}}: CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list (link) CS1 maint: numeric names: authors list (link) the url to the trove work id is identified - the book is a long time before ISBNs - the Tim items have no url included only ISBN. I am adding this as FYI and have no intention to edit the item further at this stage, I am not 100% sure that Trove entry ISBN is a default option compared to the pre-ISBN items. Apologies to the intrusion on this subject. JarrahTree 12:23, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input, JarrahTree! We can certainly add the Trove link to the bibliography reference. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 13:29, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
very kind of you to respond that way - I thought I was having a true senior moment - maybe my lack of getting a hang of ISBN stuff, then was having trouble of properly identfiying the correct work/xxxx number was causing further stress about the issue... sigh... JarrahTree 13:38, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Deborah Lutz, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Guggenheim Foundation.

Shafeev Award and Fojtik Henglein Award

[edit]

I saw that you had declined and requested revdel on Draft:Shafeev Award, which was created by the author of Draft:Fojtik Henglein Prize, an article that has most certainly the same issues that I foolishly accepted a day or two again. Appreciate if you could take a look at it quickly and see if there's anything else I missed since it's very similar. Thank you, Reconrabbit 23:33, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Reconrabbit! I haven't been able to check for similarities through Earwig while it's searching the internet. However, checking against the cited sources doesn't seem to bring anything up, and neither does a more general Google search.
