Not sure if you're aware of it mate, but on the Australian Speedway Sidecar Championship page, Grand Bond finished 3rd in the 2014 Championship, with Darrin Treloar winning another one. Second place is correct. Cheers — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cruisemcvie (talkcontribs) 04:57, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

NSWRL seasons

[edit]

Hi there. Could I just ask you to do me a favour and refrain from removing all the redlinks on NSWRL seasons' articles? They might not look attractive, but they're very important and helpful when creating new articles for players.--Jeff79 (talk) 05:56, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates

[edit]

I noticed your addition of coordinates to the Norfolk Scope article. How do you go about getting those coordinates, and what does the nomenclature about scale, etc. have to do with the location? 842U (talk) 13:26, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I notice you've been using coor title dms to add title coordinates to articles. That, and a lot of other coordinate templates, are being replaced by coord. Also, if an infobox has a provision for including coordinates, it's better (IMHO) to use that rather than to have another template down at the bottom.
—WWoods (talk) 07:57, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, it's ordinarily unnecessary to specify the position of a large object down to the hundredth of a second. (Unless you're trying to target a cruise missile on a particular player.)

Rugby League edits

[edit]

Hi - it's great to see you adding to the rugby league stats. To help even more, would you mind:

 • popping in the reference you use for the playing stats in the infobox. If it is the Rugby League Project, for example, just add the link inside a square bracket like this:
source = RLP
followed by the RLP or NRL Stats, whatever the source.
 • remove the new = yes parameter from the infobox once you have added the stats
 • if you replace the old position links, you only need to use one rlp, like this: FB for multiple positions - makes for less typing!
 • for retired players, it isn't necessary to put in an "updated" date
Many thanks! Florrieleave a note 16:38, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

British drivers

[edit]

If you investigate Clark and Stewart's Formula 1 results, plus drivers like Coulthard, Franchitti, John Cleland etc, Scotland is not treated as a national and all Scottish drivers are considered British. Long established wikipedia practice, you need to take this arguement up elsewhere. --Falcadore (talk) 20:51, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Garth Tander

[edit]

I would ask if possible, not to include individual race results into the career results tables, it could massively blow out the length of these tables, for example what of someone decided it was edit-worthy to add all of Peter Brock's Bathurst 1000, then someone else decides that the Sandown 500 was a significant part of his career, then the table is 50 lines longer. I believe that individual races should be refered to in the narrative rather than the table for this reason. --Falcadore (talk) 21:08, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your uploads

[edit]

Good day. I see that you have uploaded a number of images to Wikipedia. First off, thank you for your contributions. Unfortunately, there are some guidelines that we need to follow with copyrighted images. Specifically, you need to add a source for the image (a link to a website will do), a copyright tag (there are some listed at WP:ICT), and a rationale explaining why we can use a copyrighted image (explained at WP:NFURG). I see that your images fail to include one of these. Please stop uploading images and address the concerns listed above. If you need assistance, you can ask at the help desk. If you do not fix these images, and you continue to make bad uploads, you will be blocked and your images will be deleted. Thanks for your contributions! [edit]

Hi, I've noticed you've been going around and fixing up or adding infoboxes to sporting grounds and stadiums etc... and that's great. St Andrew's (stadium)

[edit]

Hi. I've reverted your edits to St Andrew's (stadium). Some reasons are more important than others. Particularly, you removed the metric conversion from the pitch size: this is required by the Manual of Style, and removed the source citation from this item without explanation. You may be unaware, but there is a consensus that footy stadium infoboxes don't contain full postal address, even if correct, which the one you added to St Andrew's was not, but just the general location, including the country. And I'd advise you to stop marking edits as minor when they are no such thing (you can turn this marking off at My preferences/Editing/Mark all edits minor by default). cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:09, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, just a related note so say that postcodes are not needed in an encyclopaedic article. Just a basic location (e.g. the city and neighbourhood) will suffice. Such things are not difficult to find. Please do not remove the – for a plain "-", use the first icon in the insert bar beneath the "Save page button". Wikipedia does have plenty of non-standard things in the raw code but this is not an indication that there is something wrong or it needs removing. It is there for a reason, and usually a good one. Fair use rationale for File:Woodville Oval.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Woodville Oval.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Bidgee (talk) 09:43, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Melbourne_Ballpark.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Melbourne_Ballpark.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 10:50, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Football Park

[edit]

Hi, again. Your recent edit on Football Park has again brought up some things I've tried to bring up, but you appear to refuse to discuss.

 • Consensus reached at this discussion and many other discussions has decided that the stadium articles shall be named as their non-sponsored names (Football Park, not AAMI Stadium). You did not move the page, but you changed the stadium name in the infobox to AAMI Stadium and added Football Park to the former names. Football Park is not its former name, it is its current, neutral name.
 • You have been told many times on this talk page that many of the edits you mark as minor are not indeed minor edits. See WP:MINOR.
[edit]
 • You changed West Lakes, SA to West Lakes, South Australia. The former is preferred as a reader can visit the article on South Australia when they click on the 'South Australia' part, rather than the whole link being to West Lakes.
 • You also changed AU$ to AU$. This isn't a big problem, but there is something we call "avoiding redirects" which means piping links (see WP:PIPE) so that when the link is clicked, one will not be redirected to another page.

Thanks, and please reply here or on my talk page. --timsdad (talk) 09:20, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Marking edits as minor

[edit]

You've been warned many times already. Do not mark edits such as this minor. From WP:MINOR:

A check to the minor edit box signifies that only superficial differences exist between the current and previous version: type corrections, formatting and presentational changes, rearranging of text without modifying content, et cetera. A minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. An edit of this kind is marked in its page's revision history with a lower case, bolded "m" character (m).

By contrast, a major edit is one that should be reviewed for its acceptability to all concerned editors. Therefore, any change that affects the meaning of an article is not minor, even if the edit concerns a single word; for example, the addition or removal of "not", which can vastly change the meaning of a sentence, paragraph, section or article, is a major edit.

The distinction between major and minor edits is significant because editors may choose to ignore minor edits when reviewing recent changes; logged-in users might even set their preferences to not display them. If there is any chance that another editor might dispute a change, it is best to not mark the edit as minor.

Users who are not logged into Wikipedia are not permitted to mark changes as minor because of the potential for vandalism. The ability to mark changes as minor is one of many reasons to register.

A good rule of thumb is that edits consisting solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearranging of text without modifying content should be flagged as a 'minor edit.'

This is your last warning. —EncMstr (talk) 15:32, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

B24 Succession box

[edit]

With only two races in its history - a succession box for the Bathurst 24 hour is surely pointless? --Falcadore (talk) 23:24, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am not suggesting that the accomplishment be ignored. With just two occurances there will never be on occasion where the succession box is completely filled. The purpose of these succession boxes is to track long running histories of events. Two years is not long running. Neither is five years. Even ten would be questionable.
It is an achievement certainly deserving highlighting, but certainly not a succession box. There is a fault within wikipedia's editting policy to try an put tables and statistics instead of prose text, because it is easier to defend in a challenge, less deniable, whatever. This is a trend we must fight. We should not be afraid to write events out in sentences. --Falcadore (talk) 20:59, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Again I ask about the pointlessness of a two event succession box, as you did not really justify it the first time around. The effort expended by the crews concerned does not magically created more races. You might as well add a succession box for the Calder 500 WTCC race. There was only one of them, but it was such a strenous race... please, I ask that the achievemnt be highlighted in text form, rather than a succession box that does not actually lead anywhere. --Falcadore (talk) 07:18, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User:GTHO, who has put a lot of work into correcting model names of Australian cars has asserted previously that the A9X's had specific models names, SS5000 for the Hatchback, and SLR, maintaining the link to the previous LH Torana for the four door. --Falcadore (talk) 20:39, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Holden Torana page states that "This was the 'A9X Option' that became available on the four door SL/R 5000 and two-door SS hatchback in 5.0 litre V8 form". I believe that to be correct. I'll check through my issues of "Australian Muscle Car" and provide more on this soon. --GTHO (talk) 00:37, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"Australia Muscle Car" Issue 35, page 52 states: "Model 8VD96 (Torana SL/R sedan) and 8VD77 (Torana SS hatchback) were the starting vehicles for the A9X". The same page has a reproduction of "GM Parts & Accessories News" No 444 of 31 August 1977 which reads "Distributors and Dealers are advised that a Performance Equipment Package is to be released under Option A9X on "SLR 5000" Sedans & "SS" 5 Litre Hatchback". --GTHO (talk) 01:38, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a reason why you are still changing entries for the A9X Sedan from SLR 5000 A9X Sedan to SS A9X Sedan? GTHO (talk) 03:29, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, VN SS Group A's were VN SS Group A SV. The SV title was added to both Walinshaw produced SS Group As. --Falcadore (talk) 12:02, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And the Lansvale VL in 1989 was a carburetted VL, not the injected SV version - did you check any of these or just make assumptions? --Falcadore (talk) 12:06, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bathurst 24 Hour

[edit]

It is the prefered form for Sports and GT races to leave all cars/links connected, refer 2003 24 Hours of Le Mans for an example of how the Sports/GT results sheets are handled. --Falcadore (talk) 05:01, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's worth looking at the Repeated links section in Wikipedia Help which states that tables are an exception to the rule on avoiding repeated links and that “each row should be able to stand on its own”. In other words repeated links should not be removed from any table. GTHO (talk) 03:37, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Waggott TC4V

[edit]

The four cylinder Waggott engine was based on a Ford motor (Cortina/Kent if memory serves without looking up - but do not take that as gospell - confirm), the same engine which also become the Cosworth FVA. --Falcadore (talk) 22:10, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly Repco worked on many different engines, not just the GM-based F1 engine and the Holden V8 based F5000 engine (which did not go into regular production until 1969 so how Matich could put it into his SR3 in 1968 would have been interesting). For example Repco also worked on the Maybach engine which powered the Maybach specials in the 1950s. Like Merv Waggott's smaller operation they were engine tuners rather than constructors. --Falcadore (talk) 03:28, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think you need to re-read the Waggott website because it says nothing like what you've just told me. The four cylinder engine simply could not be based on the Holden grey motor for the simple reason that the Holden grey motor is a six cylinder engine. The website descibes two completely different engines, the Waggott TC and the Waggott TC4V. It says on multiple occassions the TC is Holden based, and the photos clearly show it to be a six cylinder engine. It does not say anywhere the four cylinder engine, the TC4V is Holden based (to quote - 1968 New complete 2000cc TC4V race motor all designed and manufactured “in house”. No mention of Holden anyway). And just to cap it, is there any such thing as a four cylinder Holden engine? Before the Starfire 4 (which isn't a Holden motor to begin with) there simply wasn't a four cylinder product until... I'm not sure when but surely the 1970's? So how could they have magically created a four cylinder Holden engine?
Please get your facts straight. --Falcadore (talk) 11:03, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Allan Moffat's Ford Boss 302 Mustang

[edit]

Please don’t replace “Ford Boss 302 Mustang” entries for Allan Moffat with “Ford Mustang Tans Am” as there is really no such thing as a “Ford Mustang Trans Am”. The Moffat car was originally built up as a Ford Boss 302 Mustang to race in the 1969 Trans Am Series but was subsequently modified to CAMS Group C Improved Production Touring Car regulations to allow it to compete, as a Ford Boss 302 Mustang, in Australian Touring Car races. And it actually raced here with “Boss 302” stickers on its flanks. GTHO (talk) 03:26, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly the 'Super' Falcon nonsense. Why don't we start calling HDT Commdores 'Brock-mobiles' then? Or maybe Dick Johnson's XD could be relabeled 'Rock Car'. Or the Lowndes 00 Falcon could be the Green Eyed Monster. --Falcadore (talk) 03:50, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bathurst 1000

[edit]

Wikipedia:Linking#Repeated links. You don't have to delete all the links in the tables. While in the V8 Supercar article with only Falcons and Commodores it doesn't matter so much, but when there are a lot of different cars deleting all bar one of the links can make difficult to find the one link. --Falcadore (talk) 13:26, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for working on rewriting this, but I'm afraid that what we have now is an unauthorized derivative work. It's best when addressing copyright concerns to rewrite from scratch. I've blanked the article for now to permit time to address this.
For two examples, first compare your opening "is one of the only specially designed bitumen surface hillclimbs in the world. Its dates go back to 1935, when representatives from the Light Car Club of Australia inspected a property known as Clinton's Pleasure Grounds with a view to establishing a suitable venue for the hillclimb meetings." to the source: " one of the only specially designed bitumen surface hillclimbs in the world. Its origins go back to 1935, when representatives from the then Light Car Club of Australia inspected the property known as Clinton's Pleasure Grounds with a view to establishing a suitable venue for the hillclimb meetings." Only a few words separate this text.
For a second, jumping to the close, you have "The track and surrounding area were ravaged by bushfires in 1962 and sadly fell into disuse for several years but in 1992 the MG Car Club of Victoria was successful in obtaining a ten year lease on the property and they set about re-building the track. The result was a faithful re-creation of the original track which is again one of the premier hillclimb venues in Australia." The source says, "In 1962 the area was ravaged by bushfires and the track unfortunately fell into disuse.... In 1992 the MG Car Club was successful in obtaining a ten year lease on the property, and reconstruction began.... The result was a faithful re-creation of the original track."
I'm afraid this constitutes an unusably close paraphrase. While facts are not copyrightable, sentences and structure are. We can use brief quotations in accordance with NFC, but otherwise our articles must be written entirely in our own words, unless the source is public domain or compatibly licensed and we provide proper attribution.
The blanked article includes instructions for verifying licensing permission, if you can obtain this. Alternatively, the article should be rewritten from scratch in the linked temporary space: [1].
Please let me know if you have any questions about this. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:29, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lap records

[edit]

I don't know where you are getting some of this from but the Port Wakefield lap record was completely wrong. What else were you unsure of? --Falcadore (talk) 15:17, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fastest lap at the 1955 AGP was a 63.1. The circuit was open for another six years afterwards and lap times dropped below 60 seconds. A 49 second lap time is purely in the realms of fantasy. --Falcadore (talk) 15:38, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The reference I used to write the article originally stated the '55 grand Prix fastest lap time was a 1:03.1, and another book I have states the lap time dropped below a minute without stating how far and who did it. I can do some additional digging but right at the second I have a few other things going. What you put up was wrong, I'm not going to leave it there pending better data. --Falcadore (talk) 01:22, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And yes you did write a 49 second lap - see here. --Falcadore (talk) 01:47, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Lap record doesn't mean 'fastest lap you know of', if you don't have a source stating that it was the lap record, don't add it. --Falcadore (talk) 01:49, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have found a source stating that Bib Stillwell record a 56.0 at the 1960 Gold Star round, but I have no way of knowing that it became the final lap record. --Falcadore (talk) 05:57, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Delinking results tables

[edit]

Why are you delinking the Bathurst results tables? Please stop doing this. GTHO (talk) 03:30, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, it has been indicated before that in tables you do not remove links. Correct link to more accurate locations by all means but do not remove links. --Falcadore (talk) 07:20, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I may be out of order re this. My plea to stop the deletion of repeated links in results tables was based on the relevant Help page as I had last seen it, i.e. when it specified that tables were an exception to the "repeated links" rule. The exception wording has since been changed from “tables” to “long sortable tables”, which suggests to me that multiple links in non-sortable tables may no longer be condoned. Please see [2]. What do we think? GTHO (talk) 03:29, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Any table longer than about twenty lines should not be delinked, particular old school Bathursts as if, for example, the car you are looking at is not linked, then you have to search through the other entries to find it. In a long entry with wide variety that could take a while. Don't want to make it too difficult for casual browsers to use. Look at the Le Mans 24 Hour races by way of example, everything is linked. --Falcadore (talk) 04:11, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Formula One car infobox updates

[edit]

Hey, many thanks for putting some time into the car articles lately. It would be a good idea if you could be a bit careful about some of your edits though, please. In a number of cases you are actually making the infobox worse, not better. For example, the recent changes you made to the Renault RE40 article included switching a pipe for carbon fiber-reinforced polymer to simply carbon fiber and V6 engine to V6, and you removed all the punctuation. F1 cars aren't made of carbon fiber; that is quite floppy, fragile stuff. The material commonly referred to in that context as "carbon fiber" is actually the composite. Links should be precise. It is also conceivable that there will one day be a V6 disambiguation page. I know it redirects at the moment to the right place but it may not always be so, so removing precise pipes is going to effort that may just need repeating (probably by someone who isn't you) down the road. I appreciate that you are trying to improve things, and thank you for that, but with just a little more attention to detail it would save someone having to go round after you and clean up. Pyrope 04:58, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Updating" engine and chassis info

[edit]

Hey, just another comment on your recent edits. You say you are "updating" the chassis info in the results tables, except you aren't. You are introducing information that is implicit (the page is about car X so we don't need to be told that the results refer to car X, unless the page also covers variants XA and XB) and removing information on the car's entrant! Please stop. Feel free to add the engine name to the engine field, but removing the car's entrant field is not at all helpful. Pyrope 15:24, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

F1 car articles

[edit]

Hi HoldenV8. Thanks for the work you have been doing on F1 car articles. A couple of minor points to note though:

 • In the results tables, the "WCC" and "points" columns should only be shaded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd position in the championship
 • the WP:F1 standard abbreviation for "turbocharged" is "t/c" not "tc" (and likewise "s/c" for "supercharged")
 • we usually don't add "NA" to identify naturally aspirated engines in the results table, on the basis that this is the "default" engine type
 • engine links should not include the engine designation unless the linked article/section specifically covers that engine, e.g. Judd EV is OK, but Ferrari Tipo 036 should be written as Ferrari Tipo 036, since the Scuderia Ferrari article does not explicitly mention the Tipo 036 engine.
 • the "pole position" note is not included above the table if the car didn't score any pole positions (and likewise for fastest laps)

But apart from that, keep up the great work! DH85868993 (talk) 16:19, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No worries to all that, it helps to get constructive criticism rather than outright criticism from time to timeHoldenV8 (talk) 17:32, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. One more item I forgot above - when creating new infoboxes, it's preferable to use Infobox racing car rather than the redirect Racing car. I don't think it's worth going back and changing the ones you have already created (unless you're editing the article for another reason anyway) but it's preferable not to use the redirect for new ones. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 02:52, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to echo DH's thanks, and add a proviso of my own: WP:F1 articles are conventionally written in British English, so you should use "carbon fibre" instead of "carbon fiber" when describing the monocoque construction. Don't worry, as it's not of any significance overall.--Midgrid(talk) 20:21, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another minor point: in the car results tables, the race abbreviations should not be in bold (see the WP:F1 example table), so please start those lines with a "|", not a "!". Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 02:51, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And another... sorry! We generally try to keep the number of flags in articles to a minimum, so in those articles that are not specifically about the drivers (such as the cars) the driver nationalities are only flagged once (in the infobox). As far as the results table goes, the drivers are just another component in the combination so are treated as such: surnames only and no flags. Check out the recent (last couple of years) cars for the format that has evolved. I know that there are a few older articles (heck, I created a few myself!) that don't conform to this, but we are trying slowly to standadise things. Bye for now. Recent 1980s Bathurst 1000 edits

[edit]

You did notice the column you've been chaning is listed as Team, not Entry. Entry reflects whatever is on the entry form and can take the form of a myriad different sponsored identities from year to year. Team is focussed on connecting a link to the correct article with regards to a motor racing team. For example, for a couple of years in the late 80s, Andrew Miedecke and Andrew Bagnall had different entries, but their Ford Sierras were run out of the same team, along with briefly Kevin Waldock, run by one of the Stone brothers prior to the Stone in question (can't remember which) joined Dick Johnson Racing. --Falcadore (talk) 23:02, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And you shouldn't link to disambiguation pages like John Goss. --Falcadore (talk) 23:08, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

JPS Team BMW

[edit]

You know they went through a few iterations of the 3 Series. They started with the 323i. 325i that came later might have been a six cylinder, have to look it up but the 323i and 325i had completely different engine configurations. --Falcadore (talk) 06:54, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Volvo in the ATCC

[edit]

The Volvo team wasn't re-vamped between 1985 & 1986, they were completely different teams. 1985 was a largely privately funded New Zealand team run by businessman Mark Petch. 1986 was a factory racing team run by noted competition preparer George Sheppard mostly bankrolled by the Australian distributor. --Falcadore (talk) 13:39, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apostrophes

[edit]

Hi HoldenV8. A minor note on punctuation: it's not necessary to use an apostrophe when making a plural, i.e. the plural of "Ferrari" is "Ferraris", not "Ferrari's". Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 02:45, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi HoldenV8. FYI, it's WP:F1 convention to link all occurrences of constructor and engine names in qualifying and race result tables, not just the first occurrence. Also, engine names should be linked to the engine manufacturer article, not subsections thereof, e.g. "Judd" should be linked to Judd (engine) not Judd (engine)#CV. If you disagree with these conventions, feel free to raise the matter for discussion at WP:F1, but in the meantime, please abide by the existing conventions. Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 14:39, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It's mainly about having consistency across the project. DH85868993 (talk) 14:51, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have reverted your edit to 1988 Mexican Grand Prix, because it delinked repeated constructors and engines in the race results table and failed to follow the WP:F1 naming convention for Ford engines, as detailed at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One/Conventions#Engines. I appreciate your efforts adding in the qualifying tables, but not at the expense of corrupting the existing content. DH85868993 (talk) 07:38, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've restored your edit, with the links corrected. BTW, if you're planning on adding any more qualifying tables, one point to note is that the table should be located in the "Classification" section of the article - see 1988 Monaco Grand Prix as an example. Non-free rationale for File:Melbourne Ballpark.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Melbourne Ballpark.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. Those that were already in place do not have accompanying articles and contained entrie results known. You may note that some of those have top six results or top eight, or full fields. As originially written it contained either full known results, or a link to the article which held them if that article existed. --Falcadore (talk) 14:55, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lights & Norwood Oval

[edit]

Sorry, but I'm a bit puzzled.
Regarding the paragraph:

Night football returned to Norwood Oval during the early 2000s and Friday night games at the oval (all featuring The Redlegs) have been a regular feature in the SANFL ever since. With the popularity of the Friday night games, other clubs have started installing lights at their grounds with Elizabeth Oval (Centrals), Richmond Oval (West Adelaide) and Noarlunga Oval (South Adelaide) all having installed lights while Woodville-West Torrens are upgrading the lights at Thebarton Oval in a bid to play SANFL night games at the venue for the first time since the mid-1980s.

I have no problem with this bit:

Night football returned to Norwood Oval during the early 2000s and Friday night games at the oval (all featuring The Redlegs) have been a regular feature in the SANFL ever since. With the popularity of the Friday night games, other clubs have started installing lights at their grounds.

But please tell me, what has:

with Elizabeth Oval (Centrals), Richmond Oval (West Adelaide) and Noarlunga Oval (South Adelaide) all having installed lights while Woodville-West Torrens are upgrading the lights at Thebarton Oval in a bid to play SANFL night games at the venue for the first time since the mid-1980s.

got to do with an article about Norwood Oval?
(i.e. If you don't explain why it's relevant, I'm going to remove it.) Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 17:18, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HoldenV8. I have removed the (non-standard) bolding from the polesitters in the 1988 F1 race reports. Haas/Lola cars

[edit]

Hi HoldenV8. You may have noticed that I have reverted your edits where you changed the "Lola" links for the 1985 Haas/Lola cars to link to Haas Lola instead of Lola Racing Cars. The existing convention is that references to the team link to Haas Lola but references to the cars link to Lola Racing Cars. However, I note that this is inconsistent with the fact that we have both "Haas/Lola" and "Lola" listed in the F1 constructors template, so I will raise the matter for discussion at WP:F1. Regards. Editing suggestions

[edit]

Hi HoldenV8. Thanks for the race summaries you have been adding to the Formula One race report articles. A couple of points to note:

 • pages like Italian, Australian, etc are usually disambiguation pages, and should not be linked to. To describe a driver's nationality, link to the article about the country instead, e.g. describe them as Italian, Australian, etc
 • it's best to avoid words like "sadly", "tragically", "unfortunately", etc as these are considered "editorialising" - see WP:EDITORIAL for more information

But apart from that, keep up the good work. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 10:37, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, V12 is a redirect to a disambiguation page, so to refer to the engine configuration, you need to write V12. And even though V6, V8 and V10 redirect to V6 engine, V8 engine and V10 engine respectively, it's probably a good idea to always write V6, V8 and V10 anyway, in case the redirects change in the future. "F1 car" infobox parameter

[edit]

Hi HoldenV8. Please be careful not to remove the "F1 car" parameter when updating Formula car infoboxes as you did here - the parameter causes a footnote to be displayed in the infobox stating that the statistics refer to World Championship Grands Prix only. Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 05:28, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify, you need to be careful not to remove the parameter for pre-1984 cars, but you also shouldn't give it a value for post-1983 cars, as you did here (It's unnecessary for post-1983 cars, because there haven't been any non-championship races since 1983). Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 02:36, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, the "F1 car" parameter has now been renamed "WC_results_only". Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 01:53, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

F1 car technical information

[edit]

Hi. I see that you are adding and altering some information in Formula One car infoboxes. That's great, and very helpful in the main, but unfortunately some of the data you are adding contradicts data with a cited source, and you provide no source for the data you have added. In many cases you are also converting imperial units to metric. Most F1 cars of the pre-1980 era, although built to conform to the FIA formula (which uses metric units) were designed and quoted in imperial units (as most were built in the UK). In other cases I see that you are inserting the formula's minimum weight into this field, but a lot of older F1 cars were over the minimum weight so just assuming that this is the weight of the car isn't correct. If you do add any more technical details to infoboxes please be sure to add a properly formatted citation, otherwise this sort of information will have to be reverted as unreliable. Other than that, keep up the good work. Bye for now. Pyrope 15:10, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Editing notes

[edit]

Hi HoldenV8. A couple of minor editing notes:

 • "bar" (as in turbo pressure) should be written with a lower case 'b'
 • per WP:CONTRACTION, please write "did not" instead of "didn't"; "was not" instead of "wasn't", etc
 • plurals don't require an apostrophe, i.e. it's one Ferrari, two Ferraris, not two Ferrari's
 • please don't make links to disambiguation pages such as Brazilian, French, etc. When referring to a driver's nationality, link to the country, with the nationality as a suffix or pipe, e.g. Brazilian, French, etc

But apart from that, keep up the good work. DH85868993 (talk) 02:29, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Use of the Infobox NBL Player

[edit]

Hello HoldenV8 - I have noticed that you are a very active Australian Wikipedia editor. I wanted to bounce something off of you and see if you knew of other active NBL editors who also might weigh in. I am interested in converting players in the Template:Infobox NBL player over to the broader Template:Infobox basketball biography. In my opinion, this would make converting players who move across leagues much easier as the NBL is the only league who has its own infobox separate from the Basketball biography or NBA biography (which is actually just a redirect) boxes. I started a conversation about this over at WikiProject NBA. I want to check in with a few active NBL editors to make sure there are no issues with doing this. One issue I could foresee is that the "junior association" field would be lost. Heights and weights are also metric first on the NBL box, but that is also true of Europe so I don't think that is a show stopper. What are your thoughts? We may be able to code the box with NBL team colors as is the case in the NBA and Euroleague - I think that would be a nice enhancement. Rikster2 (talk) 13:39, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the response. Actually, the NBA doesn't have it's own infobox - it was converted over awhile back. I'm not sure how team colors, but I know the Euroleague boxes were just coded to do it this year so it is definitely possible - I think doing this for the NBL would be a nice touch if possible. I'll ask around. Have a good day! Rikster2 (talk) 13:46, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Conrod Straight

[edit]

I think somewhere you have been mis-informed. Con-Rod Straight (original spelling) is not and has never been two kilometres long. It was 1.6 km long prior to the Chase' construction. Caltex Chase was not installed to comply with FIA edict on lengths of straights. The calendar for the 1987 WTCC was announced in July 1986, well before 1986 Bathurst was held. The circuit was inspected and approved prior the 1986 Bathurst taking place. Burgmann himself, as an office bearer of the Australian Racing Drivers Club was a party to the negotiations. --Falcadore (talk) 07:12, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HoldenV8. Thanks for your recent contributions. Just a reminder that you don't need an apostrophe when making a plural (e.g. it's "two Ferraris", not "two Ferrari's") but you do need one to show possession, e.g. "the team's engines". Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 10:58, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. - 220 of Borg 01:46, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Several editors have asked you to use edit summaries, I asked about 8 months ago. How about trying it? How about answering when an editor makes a comment here? - 220 of Borg 01:46, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Revert of un-sourced edit

Information icon Hello, I'm 220 of Borg. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Lotus 95T, but you didn't provide a reliable source. I have therefore removed it. but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.

I'm not sure that it even belongs on a page about the car, something like it is on the Nigel Mansell page, but as I can't access it's source I am unwilling to use it as a source on another page. 220 of Borg 02:33, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Adelaide Wikipedia Users Group meetings

[edit]

Hi, in case you're not already aware of it, a group of Adelaide Wikipedians has been meeting on a monthly basis since April, with the aim of improving the scope and quality of articles on South Australian topics. We meet at UniSA's City West campus, and our 23 July meeting will have a guest speaker from the National Trust of SA.

This coming Sunday, 6 July, we will be holding our first Edit-a-thon. This will be an opportunity for new editors to come and learn either basic or more advanced editing from very experienced wikipedians, so if you know anyone who would like to get some practice, please let them know - and beginners will be very welcome. Thanks for the info you added to the Old Trafford article about Brett Morris' accident during the 2013 RLWCF. That info could do with a source, however, and I wouldn't have the first clue where to look, not being a rugby league fan myself. If you could add the necessary sources today, that would be best. – PeeJay 21:55, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unless the safety concerns are specifically addressed in the video, that's not really a valid source, but thanks for adding the other one. – PeeJay 22:40, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We don't need a video of the accident, we need a published source that quotes someone talking about how the Old Trafford pitch directly contributed to Morris' accident. The ABC source you added is probably about as good as we're going to get, but I'd rather have something from after the game. I've removed the statement about Old Trafford continuing to be used since you couldn't provide a source for that, and also because it's reasonable to assume that, until anyone says otherwise, Old Trafford was going to be used in the future anyway. – PeeJay 10:04, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

another significant issue about your conduct is your failure to engage with others, if you want to avoid being blocked please discuss your conduct immediately at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Persistent_addition_of_uncited_material_by_User:HoldenV8. LibStar (talk) 14:37, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting that you finally talk despite multiple attempts to get you to explain your conduct. Could you please explain why you have gone so long adding uncited material to so many articles. LibStar (talk) 23:18, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

there's a massive backlog of at least 1.5 years of you adding uncited material, especially rugby league players. you should concentrate on going back to fix this. You do realise you were very close to a block for your persistent lack of citations and failing to engage. hoping you will go back to previous edits and add sources as required. LibStar (talk) 00:44, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

there are probably hundreds of edits where you have failed to provide citation for at least 18 months. and now you are arguing over 1 edit I made. the bigger picture here is the long standing behaviour, I'm surprised you are suddenly talking despite never before. but that's a start. LibStar (talk) 01:45, 29 June 2015 (UTC) best of your knowledge is not an excuse for providing large chunks of uncited information. you obviously have the skills to find sources. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Reliable sources

[edit]

Watching it on DVD and saying that is not reliable sourcing for Wikipedia . Otherwise anyone can use the same excuse. Suggest you stick to actual sourcing . LibStar (talk) 10:55, 2 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Stop playing games . You've been warned before and you risk being blocked for your continual flaunting of the rules. Please stick to constructive editing. LibStar (talk) 11:01, 2 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
 • If the DVD was professionally published (not something you recorded yourself), I think you should be able to cite the DVD as a source. Likewise, if it was broadcast on television, and the television channel has retained a recorded copy of the broadcast (ie it has not been wiped), I suspect you would be able to cite that. You would have to give a sufficient amount of information about the DVD or broadcast so as to clearly identify it so that other people could track it down. Please archive or delete part of the content on your talk page. Other editors can't easily help you or defend you from deletionists if your talk page is so long they can't edit it. adding uncited material

[edit]

You've been asked numerous times to stop adding uncited material. And you have made little effort to citate all the uncited material you've added the last 3 odd years. You know how to find sources. If this continues you run the real risk of being blocked. LibStar (talk) 03:33, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

it's obvious you want to continue ignoring warnings. Even an admin @Michig: has told you to add citations. I've seen people blocked for less extensive pattern of adding uncited material. Why do you find it so difficult to understand this basic requirement of Wikipedia. LibStar (talk) 03:41, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Use of bold formatting in templates

[edit]

I notice that you recently re-applied bold formatting to some templates that I had recently removed it from: [10][11]

I removed the bold formatting again because generally the use of bold is limited to specific situations described in MOS:BOLD, none of which applies here. Mitch Ames (talk) 01:30, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Likewise italics, eg Template:New South Wales Swifts, per MOS:ITALICS. Mitch Ames (talk) 22:55, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

TAG-Porsche

[edit]

Hi HoldenV8. Please don't change "TAG" to "TAG-Porsche", as you did in this edit. WP:F1 convention, documented here says that these engines should be referred to as "TAG", not "TAG-Porsche". Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 05:13, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Milton Morris, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Evan Green. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

here's another one Craig Hancock. I notice you keep ignoring my requests. Your time spent adding material should be spent fixing years of uncited additions to rugby league articles. LibStar (talk) 14:25, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

final warning

[edit]

whilst you have improved your citations, you are still adding uncited material like here, and here and here. you are risking being blocked for this continuing behaviour especially since you have been previously blocked for this. @Michig: as previous blocking admin. Non-free image use

[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images. However, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded or added to a page, specifically 1972 Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles season, may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:13, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Flags in European current templates

[edit]

Hello there, I have been asked by another member of WPRL to widen the conversation on "Flags in European current templates", in the hope to gain a wider consensus. I imagine that this message may well never be read, dismissed, see me lose support, potentially gain some or take the discussion forwards. Please do take the time to read the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Rugby_league#Flags_in_squad_templates if you can, but the crux of my position is that the flags are prevalent elsewhere, are consistent with usage by the MOS, and their implementation for their rugby league national squad/team or representative nationality, is in line with their intended purpose. The crux of the remove side would be an IP editor may interpret a flag as indication of birth, give too much credence to the nation, and the decision was made previously. To remove them from all rugby league templates when there is a limited conversation would seem more than a little unfair I would say, hence the attempt to reach out. I'm quite happy to voted down, but would appreciate a few more voices to the discussion, else it would seem quite wrong to move from the majority into the minority.Fleets (talk) 21:06, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free content in tables and lists

[edit]

Hi, I reverted your edit at 2002 FIFA World Cup because Wikipedia policies do not allow non-free content in tables or lists, since the images are not essential to commentary within the article. Once those stadiums are built and free images, you can insert them into the table. Thanks. Ytoyoda (talk) 13:36, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Further to the warning above, please do not add unsourced material to articles. I know you know about this because you have been blocked for it in the past. If you don't have a source for it, just take a deep breath and don't add it to the article. If you add further unsourced material to articles, you will be blocked from editing. You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for persistently adding unsourced or poorly sourced content. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: .  ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:38, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll add to this - if you haven't read the ANI discussion, a supplementary reason for the block is your failure to respond to any of the warnings here. Doug Weller talk 17:06, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

While I accept the block and this isn't about pleading my case, I just want to point out the behaviour of someone who is directly involved in this. For the past 2 or 3 or so years, LibStar has been harassing and stalking me at just about every turn. It didn't matter what the subject of the page was, from rugby league to speedway, there he was.

Just off the top of my head, I can recall in February 2016 one situation where I received a warning from Libstar over what he perceived as a personal attack on him. But as was shown, the (short) conversation I had with another user on this site (James500) had nothing to do with LibStar. There was also one instance where he reverted an edit I made to the Brett Mullins page. The information I added to the page was factual, however I could not find any reference online or elsewhere to it. Now fair enough, I do understand that things do need verification. But LibStar reverted it back to what was there previously (which also had no reference, but that seemed perfectly ok as to my unreferenced edit which was not) and it was actually incorrect information. When I pointed this out to Libstar, instead of answering my query on it he simply gave another warning for 'playing games'.

Under Wikihounding, the first sentence of the first paragraph reads "Wikihounding is the singling out of one or more editors, joining discussions on multiple pages or topics they may edit or multiple debates where they contribute, to repeatedly confront or inhibit their work." Well, this is exactly what LibStar has been doing with me. The only time LibStar didn't do this was for a period of about 3 or 4 months when I actually threatened to report him for exactly this. But I guess after a while he figured I wasn't going to do it so he just went straight back to it.

Oh, and as to why I repeatedly ignored LibStar. Put simply I got sick of him hounding me just about every step of the way in here so I just didn't bother with him.

As I said, this isn't about pleading my case as I understand and accept the reasons for the block. It is an official complaint that LibStar has been harassing and stalking me in Wikipedia for approximately 2-3 years.HoldenV8 (talk) 04:44, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ignoring warnings and not improving yo ur long standing record of uncited additions is not an excuse. Other editors have contacted you on different matters and you flatly refuse to engage . As for wikihounding, if an editor is consistently flaunting the rules they can be monitored. I gave you every chance to improve and you even admit you just ignore these requests. LibStar (talk) 09:04, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To use a cricket term, like I said I accept the umpires's decision. This is about your behaviour through it all. You harassed and stalked just about everything I did on here for 2-3 years. Funny how in subjects where you had never appeared, if I did an edit suddenly there you were. Try and spin it how you like but what you did, as much as what I did, was a violation of the rules as far as they read.HoldenV8 (talk) 00:07, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

you had the opportunity to raise your concerns when I first raised concerns at an ANI days ago. Instead you ignored it and shift the blame onto me for your behaviour that I was indeed trying to make you correct. Many a time I was trying to encourage you to citate more and go back and fix your uncited edits over at least 4 years. Using a rugby league analogy you've had repeated unpunished infringements over a number of seasonso showing a defiance over the rules, the judiciary has had enough and permanently banned you. Re: Sockpuppetry

[edit]

Oh this is just too funny, and TBH pretty bloody sad. A user called MyHolden51 has been blocked (26 October 2018) because they have been accused of being a sockpuppet of myself.

Since I, HoldenV8, was blocked, I have NOT made any new accounts and have NOT made any edits whatsoever in Wikipedia.

Do you lot actually have any proof that I am also MyHolden51???? Any proof at all??? NinjaRobotPirate I can 100% assure you that HoldenV8 and MyHolden51 are NOT the same person. Nor do I, HoldenV8, even know who MyHolden51 is.

Edit: Nor am I Holdenman05

Do you honestly think that if I made another account to edit things that I would be stupid enough to use a name that had Holden in it? HoldenV8 (talk) 09:42, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible I made a mistake, yes. But appearing out of nowhere, a year later, after I block several accounts that have crossover with you is bizarre. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 10:26, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You definitely have made a mistake on this one I'm afraid. If MyHolden51 and Holdenman05 were blocked for legitimate reasons, then fine, that's their bad luck because like myself they've obviously done the wrong thing here. But being blocked for being sockpuppets of myself is wrong because neither are me. I have no idea who they even are. Today is actually the first time I've ever seen those names.
