Distinctive Homes Dome (formerly the Clipsal Powerhouse until the end of 2002[1]) is a privately owned, state of the art multipurpose indoor facility located in Findon, an inner western suburb of Adelaide, South Australia.

Home of the Adelaide 36ers of the NBL and the Adelaide Lightning of the WNBL, as well as the sports local grassroots body Basketball SA, the venue is widely considered the home of basketball in South Australia. The dome seats 7,800 with numerous courtside boxes and 19 elevated corporate suites. It is currently the largest purpose built basketball arena in Australia.

Built in 1991 at a cost of nearly $16 million, the Distinctive Homes Dome replaced the 3,000 seat capacity Apollo Stadium, and while its core business is basketball, the venue has also been used for various other sporting competitions such as Netball, Gymnastics, Inline Hockey and even Square Dancing.

The Distinctive Homes Dome has gained deserved infamy as a tough venue for visiting teams. Solid crowds in the enclosed space mean that it can be one of the loudest team sport experiences in Adelaide. When fans fire up as a nailbiter goes down to the wire, the atmosphere in the Dome is incredible.

History

The Dome has been the Adelaide 36ers home venue since 1992 and the Adelaide Lightning's home on and off since 1993.[2] It also includes a number of food shops, bars, the Apollo Restaurant, (used for pre-game dining and post-game interviews), staff offices and player/coach facilities. Its Sideline seating can be retracted to reveal a further 2 courts for tournaments and a floor space of over 2100m2.

On 7 February 2009 in front of a sellout (and over capacity) crowd of 8,300, the main court of the Dome was re-named The Brett Maher Court in honor of retiring Adelaide 36ers captain Brett Maher

Ownership

The Dome was purchased by Eddy Groves (ABC Learning CEO and Brisbane Bullets team owner) and Mal Hemmerling in 2006 for AUD$3.95 million.[3]
