Thank you!

I did not now how to add the tag to the cat, I appreciate you doing this! Also I could never get the spacing lines correct, it seemed to add a paragraph section -- so again thank you. Update -- I just saw all that you did --- much appreciated! If you have any suggestions for improvement I will be happy to hear and (re)write. W2317 (talk) 05:57, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Underlinked tag

Hello, please be judicious when adding the underlinked tab to stub articles. Not all of them need more wikilinks. Thank you. Rogermx (talk) 14:35, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

@Rogermx: Sorry for posting on your talk page before seeing this message. I saw you reverted my bot's edit to Aydan Hojjatova‬, but you didn't explain why in your edit summary. My bot will make the same edit the next time it runs, so let's discuss how to improve the article.
The point of the edit was to properly classify the {{notability}} tag, which you also reverted. Do you think "Bio" is the wrong classification? Would "Sports" be better for chess biographies?
Adding {{underlinked}} was a side function of AutoWikiBrowser's general fixes, which states "Appends {{Underlinked}} if article has 1–3 wikilinks or the number of wikilinks is smaller than 0.25% of article's size. Removes tag otherwise (comments, categories, defaultsort, Persondata, infoboxes ... are excluded from wikilink and size count)." Do you have a better suggestion for this functionality?
The Aydan Hojjatova article has the words "Woman GrandMaster (2018)" misplaced at the bottom of the article. It would be helpful if you could move that to the proper part of the article, expand that to a full sentence with a reference, and provide a link to Grandmaster (chess) for those unfamiliar with the term.
Also, the date formats are inconsistent. Should the article use DMY or MDY format consistently? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:30, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
Hello, thanks for your nice response. Please go back to the original version on that article I reverted. I will definitely look at the Aydan Hojjatova and make the correction. Thank you for pointing that out.
My objection is to giving any bot the power to add an Underlinked tag to a stub based on some algorithm. Many stubs simply do not have more terms that fit the Wikipedia standard for linking. A bot has no way of understanding that.
Wikipedia used to have a 20,000 underlinked article backlog. It was down to about 2400 a few days ago thanks to the work of many people, now it is close to 4,000 again. My guess is that about 30 to 40 percent of these articles have been tagged inaccurately by a bot.
I would hope to generate a discussion about this, but I find it difficult to penetrate the Wikipedia bureaucracy. Thank you for listening and for all your contributions to Wikipedia. Rogermx (talk) 01:37, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
@Rogermx: I think your suggestion that AWB should not add {{underlinked}} to articles with a stub tag is worthy of discussion. There was already a discussion at the AWB Phabricator page (see link above) and I added your concern. If you like, you could join the discussion there, or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser. My bot and I work to remove {{dead end}}, {{orphan}}, and {{multiple issues}} templates from articles, and have no desire to add unnecessary tags to articles. Gelato (cannabis) accept

Hi there. Can you help me understand what has led to the AfC accept of Gelato (cannabis) please? I would almost certainly have declined this - sources are routine content from 'daily' articles, listicles, or commercial websites. I don't see any significant independent coverage that would have led me to accept it. Interested in your thoughts. Best, Darren-M talk 15:25, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

@Darren-M: I did not think the commercial websites were sufficient, and initally rejected the draft. I thought the addition of the Chicago Tribune, Growth Op, and Legal Reader references were sufficient for a stub, and approved it. If you disagree, I won't mind if you choose to draftify it. (If you do, please pick a different stub for Wikipedia:WikiProject Cannabis/Assessment#Quality scale.) Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 18:20, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Promyshlenny

Hello. Recently, I added

to the article, "Promyshlenny (inhabited locality)". I feel that this article does count as a stub (and, if I'm being honest, I'm too lazy to do research), so I would like to know why you removed the

from the article. Cliferton (talk) 05:26, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

@Cliferton: Promyshlenny (inhabited locality) is not a regular article, it's a set index article, which I think of as a fancy disambiguation page. Wikipedia:Stub#Basic information states that disambiguation pages are not stubs. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 05:30, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Oh, ok. I would say that the article is still too bare in terms of information, but it doesn't really have that much less information than amy other sia. Thanks. (Also, I apologize for the mistake.) It's people like you that make Wikipedia great. Cliferton (talk) 05:50, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Apology for confusion I caused

I am so sorry! I did not mean it that way what I meant was that I am the only person working on the article. I have no relation to any of the companies involved in creating or producing World End Syndrome. That was entirely my fault for wording it that way and I will try to be more careful with how type things from now on.

Quantum computing article issues.

hello, id like to ask if you could look over the article titled "Quantum computing" (link below). a significant portion of the article is unsourced and unorganised among other issues.

-thank you very much for this.

@RJJ4y7: I made a bunch of changes to references and minor fixes. I also added links from many other articles to Quantum computing (There are many more you could add if you like). For the unsourced/unorgainzed issues, I suggest you post a couple examples on Talk:Quantum computing to see if editors who follow the page would be able to help out. Happy editing! WikiProject Musical instruments

Hello,

Your bot recently made changes to talk:Sintir that concern me. I have been updating tags for Wikipedia:WikiProject Musical Instruments as I find them. Your bot made a problematic change: for some reason if the project's full name is used in the tag {{WikiProject Musical Instruments|... it causes the article statistics table to (often) not record information for that article. To function correctly, the tag needs to be {{WPMusInst|.... It would be better if the bot converted {{WikiProject Musical Instruments|... to {{WPMusInst |....

Since your bot is updating these tags, there is another change it could make that would really help. When it encountered the WikiProject's tag, the tag read {{WPMusInst |quality=stub |auto=yes |importance=... Someone tagged a bunch of these with "quality" when they should have typed "class". The articles come up "unassessed" when tagged like that, and it is causing me to have to find them (mostly by accident) and change them as I find them. An ideal tag would read {{WPMusInst |class= |importance=...

If it can correct that, it would be very helpful, indeed. Thank you for creating such a useful tool, Jacqke (talk) 11:46, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

@Jacqke: Template:WPMusInst redirects to Template:WikiProject Musical Instruments. The only reason I'm changing the redirect is to take advantage of AutoWikiBrowser's general fixes to add the Template:WikiProject banner shell when appropriate. I see you have already reverted the change to Talk:Sintir. Could you please show me an example of where a talk page with {{WikiProject Musical Instruments}} does not show in the article statistics table?
The source for Template:WikiProject Musical Instruments shows that |quality= is an alias of |class=. I see that Talk:Electric instrument has <code>{{WPMusInst |quality=stub |auto=yes |importance=}}</code> but is correctly categorized in Category:Stub-Class musical instruments articles. Could you please show me an example of where the categorization isn't correct when the |quality= field is used? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 22:29, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Ill have to get back to you on the first issue. I tried to make it recreate it with a recent article, Tifa totobuang, and can't. However the second issue is showing. I changed "class" to "quality", and on the article's page it comes up unassessed instead of stub. It is listed on the article statistics table in the right place, however. I'm going to work finding other examples. _Jacqke (talk) 02:01, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
@Jacqke: I don't see the word unassessed on Tifa totobuang. Could you please show me an example of the problem before you fix it? GoingBatty (talk) 02:28, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
@Jacqke: I just reviewed all the talk pages containing {{WPMusInst}} and manually added {{WikiProject banner shell}} where needed so my bot doesn't change it to {{WikiProject Musical Instruments}} as part of the edit. GoingBatty (talk) 03:37, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

@Jacqke: Would you be able to determine which of the {{WPMusInst}} should be removed from Talk:Dutar? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:53, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

This should be class a mid importance. Jacqke (talk) 03:42, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
@Jacqke: OK - I removed the duplicate template. GoingBatty (talk) 03:48, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

In addition, I have replaced the 2. reference as the earlier one was not in use anymore.

According to recent scientific discoveries, it has been proven that Laser speckle phenomenon has link with quantum turbulence which is called "quantum turbulence of laser speckle" as the related works were conducted by a scientific group [8]

@Orunab: I fixed that reference as well. I hope you can view the article source to see how the <ref>...</ref> tags should be used. You don't need to tell me every time you add a reference - it's more important for you to post to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Intelligent laser speckle classification to explain why the article should not be deleted. Thanks GoingBatty

I went to the manual of style as you suggested, and posted there. Do you think it was the right place? Anywhere else I should try? Here is a copy of what I posted on the talk page there: "I think photos, videos, animations, drawings, paintings, or virtual reality or other images in 3D or 2D, that, like most maps, face due north and are labelled accordingly are best. This way, the orientation of things in the picture is made known to the reader.I think photos should by default face due north. Astronomy images, photos or whatever, likewise should come with indication of orientation, so right ascension and declination of a single point are not enough, there needs to be some indication of which way up the image is, which is best provided by indicating which way it is to the celestial north pole. This is especially urgent with images of galaxies and planets which are frequently upside down (not necessarily in Wikipedia) if I can say that (because of how telescopes work, I think). I think astronomy images by default should have celestial north up." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arctic Gazelle (talkcontribs) 18:41, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

@Arctic Gazelle: I see your post was moved to Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Images#Facing north should be preferred, which seems to be the right place. I see the Statue of Liberty argument there, and was thinking something similar about the White House. You might want to give some specific examples in that thread explaining how your proposed change would benefit Wikipedia's readers. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 22:04, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for all your help. And thanks for the encouragement. I actually think the photo of the back of the Statue of Liberty makes a pleasant and interesting change from the usual view. Hey, notice you made few omissions on my article regarding categories. I wan to learn how and why you did that..Thanks Castling D (talk) 08:57, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

@Castling D: Which article are you referring to? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:25, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

I am referring to Odeneho Oppong Prince Castling D (talk) 15:52, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

@Castling D: In UnitedStatesian's edit when it was a draft, UnitedStatesian added a colon to the beginning of each category to change them to category links so the draft wouldn't be in article categories. UnitedStatesian provided a link to WP:DRAFTNOCAT to explain what they were doing. In my edit after it became an article, I removed the colon from the beginning of each category so the article would be properly categorized. I also removed Category:Year of birth missing (living people) because the article contains Category:1993 births.
There have been a lot of new articles about Ghanaian politicians lately. For some of the articles, it has been hard to determine whether the politician is still alive. Other articles have had Category:Ghanaian men (which should not be used on any articles) or Category:Ghanaian political people (which can be made more specific). The guidance at WP:SUPERCAT might help you to determine which categories are approrpriate. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 21:04, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
@GoingBatty: This is very useful. I appreciate. One other thing, has that article been reviewed yet? I ask because, even though I have moved it into mainspace, it still doesn't show in my search index. Clarify.Castling D (talk) 22:02, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Castling D
@Castling D: The article has not yet been reviewed. You should receive a notification when the article has been reviewed, and you'll see a record of the review at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log?page=Odeneho_Oppong_Prince Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 22:16, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

My Draft for Spike T. Smith (Drummer)

Hello, I don't know if you remember me but you help my with my article on Drummer Spike T. Smith a few months ago with the lay out of my references.

The draft I submitted was denied and I can't really work our why. I was given the reason This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources.

I have only written complete facts regarding the drummer and I have listed several magazines and books he has featured in.

Is there anyway you would be able to take a look at it and maybe guide me as to where I am going wrong? I would be happy to pay you a fee for your time.

@Matthewzilch: I added some {{citation needed}} templates to Draft:Spike T. Smith (Drummer) to show you which sentences do not seem to be supported by reliable sources. (It's hard to be exactly sure what's not referenced, because I cannot read any of your references. Feel free to use your existing references for more than one sentence if appropriate.) Also, it appears that the "Terrorizer Magazine" reference is missing the name of the article in that issue and the page number(s). I will not accept any payment, and if you have any conflict of interest (e.g. you're related to Smith or you are Smith), please disclose it on your user page using {{UserboxCOI}}. Happy editing! Thank you.. By the way, the natives use both names (Bhagavathy and devi). But the actual name of the temple is Kiliroor Kunninmel Devi Temple. And I corrected the titile name.

Keeping my bot busy ...

It would be great if your bot could avoid adding duplicate |class= to talk pages. My bot has been busy cleaning up after your bot (e.g., here)! Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:28, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

@Plastikspork: Thanks for letting me know about the issue. I've turned the bot off, and I'm going to revert our bots' edits to that page so I can find the issue and fix it. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 00:36, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
@Plastikspork:  Fixed! The issue was the last line of User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects that converts |quality= to |class= without checking if |class= also exists. I've commented out that line and replaced it with a simpler version that only changes |clas= to |class=. Thanks for letting me know, and sorry about the problem!

battybot and |edition=

If you are going to use your bot to make edits like this it should also remove |url=https://www.worldcat.org/oclc/<oclc> when <oclc> matches the value in |oclc=<oclc>. The extra text in |edition= is very commonly associated with WorldCat cites written by that abomination that is ve. Alas, it has proven difficult to get MediaWiki to stop including WorldCat urls in citations written by ve because 'other wikis' don't support |oclc=. Here, cs1|2 |title= should only link to sources that can be read; WorldCat does not provide any access to the source (there used to be a sometimes-working link to google previews – this particular example claims that – but since google changed their book preview mechanism, this facility hasn't worked) so the |url=https://www.worldcat.org/oclc/<oclc> is also extraneous.

Another common thing that ve does in these WorldCat cites is to write, for an example:

|edition=1st Wiley ed

when |publisher=Wiley. Sort of pointless, that, so you might want to have the bot attempt to match whatever is between the edition enumerator and the 'extra' text in |edition= with the content of |publisher=. Yeah, I know, this can be difficult to do.

Most difficult of all is the complete hash that ve makes of author names. To be somewhat fair, this is not wholly the fault of ve because it relies on what it gets from the poorly curated records at WorldCat. Quite a few author names contain surname, initials, parenthetical given names:

|last=Surname, I. I. (Initial Initial)

Author names will also contain parenthetical birth and sometimes death dates – there are a variety of forms (because poorly curated WorldCat data).

Removing |url= is easy; I mention these latter items in case you are feeling the need for a challenge.

Lydell.Birch (Moka Blast WikiPage)

Hi, I am new to this and I jsut need some advice from you. First, thank you for reviewing my wiki page so quickly. I did make changes and resubmitted. I hope I did it right this time. I'd like to contribute to more artists, but first I want to get this right because its all so new to me. I have a question: how can I change my Draft Name? I would like to change it to Moka Blast. I was trying to be professional for my extra credit assignment (that's what got me started on wiki, is my teacher) and label the page by his first name, but I think it should be Moka Blast because that's what he calls himself on his social media.

Please let me know how I do this. Thank you so much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beamer.Backdrop (talkcontribs) 18:09, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Citations

Hi, thank you for taking your time to clean up HMS Triton (1796)! I'm very new to this kind of thing and appreciate the help. I was looking at the adjustments made to my citations, whatever you've done seems to work fine, but I don't really understand how it works. To my mind you've removed the parts of the citations that denote the details e.g. page number, and yet they still turn up on the article itself? I'd appreciate it if you could explain how this works, if I should be doing it normally, and point me towards a source to learn from?!

Many thanks, Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 14:56, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

@Pickersgill-Cunliffe: When you use a named reference like this <ref name="Gardiner2">Gardiner, First Frigates, p. 54</ref>, you don't have to use the full text when you want to use that same reference again. Instead, you can just use <ref name="Gardiner2" />, and they'll be combined in the Reference section of the article. See WP:NAMEDREFS for more details. Happy editing! TBoavida (talk) 14:45, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

@TBoavida: I performed some copyediting on the draft for you. Please change the puffery and slang to an encyclopedia tone (e.g. "He is the master", "superb", "while developing his activity as an international expert", "a stone's throw".) Wikipedia is interested in what other people have written about Mickeler, not what he writes about himself (e.g. "he defined as the best private commercial offer in the world of dinosaurs, thanks to the sum of the services offered to purchasers and which have earned him the loyalty of many collectors for many years.") I checked references #36-41 and do not see Mickeler mentioned at all. Please remove all references that do not provide significant coverage of Mickeler, which might mean you'll have unsourced information to remove. If you have any connection to Mickeler, that would be a conflict of interest that you have to disclose on your user page. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:41, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Good morning. After receiving your comments about my draft on Eric Mickeler I have changed the references 36-41 to articles that mention the expertise of Eric Mickeler. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TBoavida (talkcontribs) 08:04, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TBoavida (talkcontribs) 13:15, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

@GoingBatty: You should know that adding a nowiki tag to the Teahouse right now is completely messing up the page. I tried the same thing and got the same result. Need Help

I Hosbot introduce you, the expert to me.

I like to propose posting a section in "Mosquito Control" article:

Section name: Visual Control. Text: Currently yellow light bulbs were marketed as insect, mosquito repelling devices. From the study in Florida woodland, among  other color light traps, the yellow emitting light attracted the least, thus, it was translated as a repelling method(1) . On the other hand, when God creates the animal He creates them with eyes, which means for them to "see". They indeed rely on vision to find a clear path to navigate and to identify predators to flee from. This opens the door for possible optical mosquito control methods. If one can somehow simulate an obstruction they will not pass or if they were 'fooled' to  believe the places were flooded with presents of other insects; predators perhaps; they will stay away.  A combination of multi color light pulsing system was proposed as an alternative,  It claims to work on the perceiving of the insects they translate the fast space of color changing events as appearances of some to disappear in order to be replaced by another.(2). In any case, visual control methods can not do them any harm, but to keep them away at best.

@Ephitran: Welcome to Wikipedia! I see you're having some trouble with the Mosquito control article. Per the instructions you have already received, you may post your proposal on Talk:Mosquito control with the {{request edit}} template, and an uninvolved editor will review your proposal. I don't know anything about these journals, and think your proposal would be stronger if you removed the sentences starting with "On the other hand..." and "In any case..." Happy editing! BattyBot

Hi! I've left a message at Talk:BattyBot to stop it from editing. It appears that at some point in the last three hours it stopped adding tags to to talk pages and started blanking instead. The earliest example I can find is at [2], and subsequently most of its edits were to blank talk pages, including where there were comments as well as project tags: for example [3][4][5] - Bilby (talk) 13:01, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

@Bilby: Thanks again for stopping the bot. I'm rerunning the bot on those same pages, and everything is going well now. Very strange... GoingBatty (talk) 14:27, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
No problem. I couldn't see anything different from those pages and the ones where it worked, either. Debugging that would be tricky given the sudden change in behaviour, so I had assumed that something muust have been corrupted over time. Intermitent bugs are the worst to fix. :) (I just spent two weeks trying to track down an intermittent bug on a somewhat bigger - and much less virtual - 'bot - only just managed to get it fixed). - Bilby (talk) 14:59, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

Request on 22:28:04, 5 April 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by ItCameFromSpace

Hello! I just noticed that you declined my recent submission. I managed to find an article that described Allen Ellison's earlier life thankfully, so the issue with citations should be fixed. Let me know if I need to do anything else; I am rather new to creating Wikipedia articles after all. Regardless, it is nice to contribute to a community I've been lurking on for so long.

Draft:Les Brown (journalist.

@Oldtownhill: GoingBatty, Thanks for your review and comments on my draft. I have addressed the issues you raised and resubmitted. (It is difficult to find references on the early life of someone from a poor immigrant family. Some of that information I have verified with Les Brown's family.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Les_Brown_(journalist) I am prepared to make any other changes that may be required. @Oldtownhill-- Oldtownhill (talk) 22:48, 5 April 2021 (UTC) Oldtownhill (talk) 22:53, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

@Oldtownhill: Everything needs to come from a published (preferably independent) reliable source. Please remove anything where you don't have a published source. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 01:36, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Question

Can we use References from the corporate website? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ItsJustdancefan (talkcontribs) 01:58, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

@ItsJustdancefan: Yes, but you need published independent (not from the corporate website) reliable sources that provide significant coverage of Univision Now to demonstrate notability to have your draft accepted - see all the links in the gray box at the top of Draft:Univision Now. Wikipedia cares more about what independent sources think of Univision Now than what the company thinks of itself. Happy editing! @GoingBatty: One question is the The Wrap a independent reliable source? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ItsJustdancefan (talkcontribs) 02:39, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

@GoingBatty: Added a reference on Univision Now from the thewrap. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ItsJustdancefan (talkcontribs) 03:22, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
@ItsJustdancefan: That reference suffers from the same problem as all the other references from November 18, 2015: it's just a regurgitation of the company's press release. If nothing else has been published about Univision Now in the last 5+ years, it's going to be very challenging to get your draft approved. GoingBatty (talk) 03:46, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

@ItsJustdancefan: Yes, that's an article about Univision Now from 2018. However, it seems to be just be routine coverage instead of significant independent coverage. GoingBatty (talk) 15:17, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Sami Tallberg site

Hi GoingBatty, since I'm quite unexperienced in writing Wikipedia articles I would appreciate your help and guidance. I have been making small corrections to Sami Tallberg site here but cannot get my image through.

ALso I noticed that you have been making some small corrections but to a version, that is five years old. The new version, made by myself, was still visible last week but now it was gone because of your corrections, I think.

Could you please assist how to proceed, please?

Thank you, Heli Mäenpää — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heli Mäenpää (talkcontribs) 11:19, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

@Heli Mäenpää: You uploaded File:SamiTallberg.jpg to commons, but typed File:SamiTallberg.jpeg into the article. Also, the {{PD-self}} template should not be used within an article. I have fixed the code in the Sami Tallberg article so your image is displayed properly.
If you know Tallberg personally or are employed by him, you have a conflict of interest that you need to disclose on your user page. I suggest you use {{UserboxCOI}} or {{Paid}} (whichever is appropriate). If you do have a conflict of interest, then please refrain from making more edits to the article. Instead, you may post suggestions on Talk:Sami Tallberg (with reliable sources that can be used as references), and use the {{request edit}} template to invite other editors to help you. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 13:19, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
@Heli Mäenpää: Also, you did not provide references for some of the additions you made. I have marked the information that needs references with the {{citation needed}} template. Please feel free to suggest independent reliable sources on Talk:Sami Tallberg. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 13:28, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Could you review Azra Public School Hyderabad?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Azra_Public_School,_Hyderabad I wrote an article about a school in Hyderabad and it would be helpful if you checked it out since you are an experienced Wiki admin. Should I make new changes or will it get accepted in this form? Rasalghul1711 (talk) 18:39, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

@Rasalghul1711: Hi there! I am not a Wiki admin, but I did review your draft for you. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:27, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Hey GoingBatty, I saw you declined my article for not having more independent sources. Well, I did mention all of them in the Further Reading and viewing section which contains articles from various independent admission websites and even The Siasat Daily and Etemaad; both local newspapers (But just because you said it, I will try to find more articles about the school). As for the notability; this school is quite prominent in Hyderabad (I assumed you are from Hyderabad because you edited some articles related to Hyd) and this is why I wrote an article about it.
As for the date of foundation, I apologise for not citing the source but I am doing it rn.
Moreover I don't see why this school does not qualify for being notable as many similar schools like Sri Chaitanya Techno School, Eluru, Panchavati High School, etc all qualify for wiki articles even though they have the same level of nobility.
So I suggest you review the article once again as I tried my best to write the article following all wiki rules related to citations, notability, etc. Thanks! Rasalghul1711 (talk) 11:03, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
@Rasalghul1711: Wikipedia's notability criteria for schools is not based on local prominence. WP:NSCHOOLS refers to WP:ORG and WP:GNG, both of which emphasize independent reliable sources that provide significant coverage, and most of the references you provided are not independent or just routine coverage. I saw you added external links from saisat.com - maybe you could incorporate the information from those web pages into your draft. I am not from Hyderabad, and have never had the pleasure of visiting India. Note that both Sri Chaitanya Techno School, Eluru and Panchavati High School are tagged with the {{notability}} template, so please don't use those articles as examples (see also WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS). Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 14:51, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Question.

If a article doesn't have references can it still be deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ItsJustdancefan (talkcontribs) 15:50, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

@ItsJustdancefan: Yes, if an article (not a draft) does not have references, it can be deleted. See also Wikipedia:Deletion policy. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) GoingBatty (talk) 16:28, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Templates used by AutoWikiBrowser indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Talk! 14:24, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

@Liz: Thanks for the heads up! An incorrect edit broke Template:AWB standard installation, which populates this category. I have reverted the edit, so the category will once again be populated. Therefore, I contested the speedy deletion. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 16:26, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

Categories to watch

I didn't know it was possible to watch entire categories! What is currently bugging me the most is the classification of aliases as "discouraged parameter". -- Ohc ¡digame! 21:27, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

@Ohconfucius: I agree that seeing references with "discouraged parameters" but not being able to use WP:AWB/RTP to "fix" them is frustrating. GoingBatty (talk) 22:34, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

BattyBot and GOCE

Hello! BattyBot recently made this edit, rearranging talk page banners. I have one note: {{WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors}} represents a review process and belongs with the article history banners rather than with the WikiProject banners. I know the name makes this confusing; I usually use the alias {{GOCE}}) for the banner. Alternatively, if an article has a lot of history, the data from the GOCE banner can be entered into {{Article history}}, which accepts GOCE in its parameters.

Oh, I was once GOCE lead coordinator but am not presently on that team. I can probably answer any questions but if you need to talk with the present leadership, their forum is at WT:GOCE/COORD. Thanks for your attention on this, and good work with the bot! – Reidgreg (talk) 11:40, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

@Reidgreg: Thanks for the note! I reverted the edit to Talk:Hey Lady!, and then updated User:Magioladitis' module User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects in this edit so it converts {{WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors}} to {{GOCE}}, so the AWB general fixes don't include it in {{WikiProject banner shell}}. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 12:46, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
Awesome! That was quick work! BTW, I've copied this to my talk page for future reference. Happy editing! – Reidgreg (talk) 13:26, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

Dispenser tools, specifically Dabfix

Hi GoingBatty. I noticed you had made comments on Dispenser's talk page to the effect that his tools were up and running again. I was very happy to see that, and I had a good run using the Dabfix tool (http://69.142.160.183/~dispenser/cgi-bin/dabfix.py). However it has now stopped working again, with a different error than before, something starting with <class 'oursql.CollatedWarningsError'>. I won't post the full traceback but you should see it with this http://69.142.160.183/~dispenser/cgi-bin/dabfix.py?page=Mark_Savage. Of course all the other tools seem to be still working, just my bad luck for it to be Dabfix. I don't know whether you had a hand in fixing the previous issues, so I thought I'd mention it, and keep my fingers-crossed. Thanks Tassedethe (talk) 16:39, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

@Tassedethe: Unfortunately, I don't have the power to fix Dispenser's tools. http://69.142.160.183/~dispenser/view/Dabfix loads fine for me, but I could replicate your issue when I typed in "Mark Savage". I use Reflinks and Dab Solver - sometimes they're down, and sometimes they work. Hope Dispenser can fix this soon! Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:28, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Worth a shot. I'll just have to edit the old fashioned way. Thanks again. Tassedethe (talk) 23:58, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Possible leads on bot bugs

Okay, I do not have any bugs, but here is a list of all pages that blocked the bot. You might want to look at what your bot would do to these pages, and why it was blocked. I have done this for a bot that I work on and found quite a few bugs that no one ever reported to me or anyone. I should note that some people block bots, because they are that kind of person. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:AnomieBOT/Nobots_Hall_of_Shame/ AManWithNoPlan (talk) 13:20, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Breaking changes to citation authors

The bot is removing authors from citation templates, I believe because they are duplicate names with different author numbers. This causes at least two sorts of problem.

In this edit there actually are two authors with the same name and initial (see [6]). I believe the template was correct before the bot edit, although possibly there is some special author formatting that should be performed in this special case. The template is definitely wrong after the bot edit, showing only one author where there should be two.

In this change, a single author was indeed duplicated but now there is no author2 and so we end up with a CS1 tracking category for a missing name.

I haven't actually stopped the bot since the first type of error is likely to be very rare and the second possibly an improvement albeit still with mistakes in the template. Lithopsian (talk) 13:58, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

@Lithopsian: Thank you for letting me know about these issues. For Pi Aquilae, the article is credited to "R. & R. Griffin", so I changed the reference to |last=Griffin |first=R. & R. to match. Before restarting the bot, I'll review any articles that BattyBot edited that are now in Category:CS1 errors: missing name. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 20:52, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. I may make further changes. We have a WP article about the first R. Griffin (Roger Griffin (astronomer)) and this should be linked. The second, R. Elizabeth M. Griffin, doesn't appear to have an article. On some other papers they are listed as Griffin, R. F. & Griffin, R. E. M. I'll consult on whether it would be appropriate to use this form even on papers where it is not used formally. Lithopsian (talk) 20:58, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
@Lithopsian: BattyBot would ignore | last1=Griffin | first1=R. | author1-link=Roger Griffin (astronomer) | last2=Griffin | first2=R. if this helps. GoingBatty (talk) 21:02, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
I did wonder about that. Seems like a solution in this case. Lithopsian (talk) 21:03, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
@Lithopsian: After cleaning up a bunch of references, I decided to restrict this specific rule to {{cite web}} and {{cite news}} - better to skip some references that need fixing than to make incorrect edits. GoingBatty (talk) 03:45, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Layout

Hi GoingBatty, I was trying to write a greek national park article and I came across this. External links are the last level two header of an article. Is there a way to validate that? So the bot can identify the correct place for ELs. Cheers--Chanaka L (talk) 06:15, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

@Chanakal: Hi there! AWB's general fixes can make a lot of good changes, but it can't do everything. I'm glad you noticed the bot's edit, and that it inspired you to make further improvements to the article. I've submitted a request to expand the functionality to move "External links" below "Sources" and "Further reading". Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 15:23, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank and can you help me?

Hi Going Batty! Need help on correcting draft

Hi :@GoingBatty:,

At the onset I would want to thank you for quick response on my talk page. I would really need your help in getting the article published and I can go on create more articles which I always wanted to create.

Please help in correcting the draft Draft:Butler Leather Goods Factory and again it would be of great help to me.

Thanks again!

Regards Mellontikos (talk) 04:30, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

@Mellontikos: As another editor wrote on your draft: "All content requires independent reliable sources, each and every sentence". I suggest you read Help:Your first article in full. Gathering references should be your top priority for this draft. Then, you write your draft to summarize and paraphrase what the references say. This may require a drastic rewrite of your draft, so I'll pause my copyediting efforts until your draft is adequately referenced. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:44, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Sunshine!
Hello GoingBatty! Interstellarity (talk) has given you a bit of sunshine to brighten your day! Sunshine promotes WikiLove and hopefully it has made your day better. Spread the sunshine by adding {{subst:User:Meaghan/Sunshine}} to someone else's talk page, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. In addition, you can spread the sunshine to anyone who visits your userpage and/or talk page by adding {{User:Meaghan/Sunshine icon}}. Happy editing! Interstellarity (talk) 20:13, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your help!

Your help with the Husky page is very much helpful! I was wondering if you had any advice on how to go forward as a Wiki editor/writer which could fix some of the mistakes I've made and which you corrected? Again, your attention to detail is incredibly needed, especially with a beginner like myself. Johndvandevert (talk) 14:09, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

@Johndvandevert: Thanks for your feedback! Some people do well researching and writing articles, whereas I seem to be better and fixing the tiny technical issues. One of the things I do regularly is look for links to hip hop that should really go to hip hop music, which is what drew me to the Husky (rapper). I use a tool called AutoWikiBrowser, which also corrects typos and makes other general fixes. There are a lot of guidelines to follow, such as MOS:DATEUNIFY and MOS:DATEFORMAT. MOS:ITALICS states that album titles should be italicized and that songs should be in quotation marks, and I believe there are opportunities for you to make some fixes the article. I also look at the red errors in the References (like the ones in this old version of the article) and try to fix them. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 17:44, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

BattyBot malfunction

@GoingBatty:, the BattyBot has been going around changing every instance of "Mike Fleming Jr" to "Mike Jr. Fleming". On every page where he's cited (he's a Deadline editor so that's a lot of actors and films, etc.) - any way to get it to mass undo this, of course without undoing all the other fixes in the same edits? It seems to be that there's a backend issue and while Deadline shows Fleming's name correctly in visuals, the code thinks the "Jr." is part of his first name... or something. But since it's the only name being changed in these recent edits, I hope it's an easy enough specific command to implement. Kingsif (talk) 19:21, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

@Kingsif: BattyBot has been going around changing |first=/|last= parameters so references are changed from "Fleming Jr., Mike" to "Fleming, Mike Jr." per MOS:JUNIOR. I was inspired to expand the bot after reading the discussion at Help talk:Citation Style 1/Archive 77#Suffixes? and then seeing the incorrect "Fleming Jr., Mike" displayed in an article. I look forward to applying a similar fix to other authors. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 20:07, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
@GoingBatty: While a good reason, perhaps a new citation parameter for suffixes should be implemented, rather than adding them to the first name. Kingsif (talk) 12:45, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
A stalker writes: I agree. The current system is broken in a way that no bot can fix. It also assumes that the last name is the surname, which is not the norm in many cultures. Certes (talk) 13:01, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
@Kingsif and Certes: For those that don't want to use |first=|last=, it's possible to use |author=Fleming, Mike Jr. as well. My bot doesn't change |author= to |first=|last=. You can suggest a new parameter at Help talk:Citation Style 1 if you like. I'm just trying to use the existing parameters to ensure references are displayed properly. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 19:06, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Yes, the bot's doing the best it can with bad data. Garbage in, garbage out. Certes (talk) 19:35, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

My apology, I had to delete your edit to revert a lengthy edit just before yours. Thanks for your understanding. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:54, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

@Magnolia677: No worries, I just made the edit again. Thanks for letting me know. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 21:57, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Listen, I do not know what both of your problems are, but you keep reverting my edits to the Demopolis, Alabama page although all of my edits are properly cited. If you are going to keep being petty and doing that, the least you can do is update the page with current (as of 2021) information. The Demopolis Wikipedia page is so outdated and so inaccurate is laughable. For example, the current article has that the University of West Alabama is the managing partner of the city's higher education center when they haven't been since 2014... the managing partner is now Wallace State out of Selma. It shouldn't matter how lengthy the edits are, if they are factual and are properly cited, who are you to reverse them because you feel like you can? The page is inaccurate, but you wouldn't know that because you don't live here and refuse to let me, someone who does live here and know what's going on, update the page. What's going to end up happening is I'm going to have the mayor and town government (the people who asked me to "clean up and update their city's Wiki page") to request that the city's Wiki page be locked to where only they and the Demopolis Historical Society can access it. That way I will end up having access anyway and you won't have to worry about accessing the page and reverting edits again. Surely you don't think you can override the city government of the town that is the subject of the page in question/conflict. If you want to continue to have access to the page I suggest you stop this petty nonsense now.

@Tristanmullen1999: I just left a welcome message on your talk page. Please leave a message there or on my talk page and I will assist you with your edits. I'm pretty good at editing US cities and took this photo a few years back just up the road from Demopolis. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:45, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Just responded on your talk page. Sorry if I came across as rude, but it's frustrating when you spend hours compiling sources to make sure your edits are up to par so they won't be reverted... and they get reverted anyway. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tristanmullen1999 (talkcontribs) 22:56, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

@Tristanmullen1999: Welcome to Wikipedia! If you click on the "View history" tab for Demopolis, Alabama, you'll see that I have not reverted any of your edits. I was attracted to the article because I monitor new links to Country, which sometimes need to be changed to Country music and other times should be removed to prevent overlinking. It's great that you're trying to update the Wikipedia article, but please keep a few things in mind:
  • The mayor and town government do not own or control the article, cannot lock the article, and should not even edit the article due to their conflict of interest.
  • Since the mayor and town government asked you to "clean up and update their city's Wiki page", you should declare your conflict of interest on your user page using {{UserboxCOI}} (or {{paid}} if you're receiving compensation).
  • Instead of directly editing the article, I suggest you post your suggestions on Talk:Demopolis, Alabama with the {{request edit}} template (and reliable sources), and let experienced independent editors make the changes for you.
  • We're all volunteer editors, so please remember to be civil, especially when you're frustrated.
  • (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.)
Thanks, and I hope you find lots of ways to improve the encyclopedia! GoingBatty (talk) 00:04, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

I am not being paid or compensated in any way. They just asked me on a whim because they know this is where my interest lies and they were taken aback by how outdated their town's information was on the page. I'm just interested in my town having an accurate and up to date Wikipedia page. That is all. I still don't see why I have to suggest edits to you all instead of just edit it myself since I live here. I am a Senior History major in college and will be a law student next fall, so I am familiar with how to research and cite information. No one has still given me an answer to why all of my edits were reversed when everything was cited correctly. If it's not a case of vandalism, why reverse someone else's work? In fact, I think my edits made the town's page look more polished and included (cited) information that wasn't previously there. I still think pride and ego are contributing factors in all of this. Even if I go and redo my edits and double check and make sure I cite everything correctly, y'all (or they since you say you didn't revert my info) are still probably going to just undo my edits. Tristanmullen1999 (talk) 00:26, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

@Tristanmullen1999: I have no intent to monitor the article or revert future edits. While I did not review your edits or the reversions, edits can be reverted if they are not accompanied by reliable sources or if they do not follow Wikipedia's many guidelines. Editors should give their reasons for reverting in their edit summary, as Magnolia677 did. As part of the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, I suggest you discuss your edits on the article's talk page with the editors who reverted your edits, and assume good faith. Happy editing! Thank you for helping in clarifying the Wikipublisher.com company

Hi, I appreciate the time you took to explaining this situation to me. Unfortunately, I have paid them $800 to write my profile and submit for my company/brand. But, we are in the drafting stage at the moment. So, the article has not been submitted yet to Wikipedia. What should I do? I would like to get a page for my company submitted and approved and of course do it the correct way.

Pc0803 (talk) 04:01, 9 July 2021 (UTC) Pc0803

@Pc0803: I suggest you ask for your money back and find other ways to promote your company. Wikipedia is not a means of promotion, but an encyclopedia. Writing about yourself and your company is a conflict of interest and strongly discouraged, and isn't necessarily a good thing. GoingBatty (talk) 04:29, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

I have made the suggested edits on the page "Mahalingam Thangavelu". I have also included conflict of interest on my user page.

Thanks! Mukherjee27 (talk) 21:51, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

@Mukherjee27: I'm glad you're continuing to improve your draft. References 4, 6, 13, & 15 look like they have the |first= and |last= parameters backwards. References 1, 3, 14, and 16 need a citation template so we don't see the bare URL. Keep up the good work! GoingBatty (talk) 02:42, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

References 4,6,13,15 have been corrected. Ref 1 has been removed and replaced with the internal link, ref 14 was a duplicate and ref 16 has been replaced with an internal link.

Thank very much for the suggestions and improving this page! Mukherjee27 (talk) 21:28, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

@Mukherjee27: Nice work! Reference #7 needs a citation template too. I fixed the links per MOS:BUILD and added a new link. I also changed some text in the last paragraph - please fix it if it's not correct. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 22:26, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

I have corrected reference #7. Thanks for fixing the links! The last paragraph changes are good and reads well. Thanks! Mukherjee27 (talk) 23:35, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

@GoingBatty: Can I add a References from November 19,2015 to the draft Univision Now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ItsJustdancefan (talkcontribs) 00:03, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
@ItsJustdancefan: As I stated on Draft:Univision Now, all the references dated November 19, 2015 seem to just be regurgitations of the same press release. In order to demonstrate notability, I suggest you provide independent reliable sources that provide significant coverage of Univision Now that were published after November 18, 2015. a concern on the article titiled "Xenophobia" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenophobia )

I was a bit disappointed to find that this article is just a collection of events written like a newspaper and doesn't read like an encyclopedic entry at all.

I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at the article and (maybe the sources too while you're at it).

Three quick questions, in descending order of importance

When it comes to Construal, what makes a Person more linkworthy than the World that same person senses and tries to "get"? Are they not two sides of "the coin", nice and interdependent-like? Also, which Batman villain is the worst Batman villain, and why? InedibleHulk (talk) 03:20, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

@InedibleHulk: I didn't consider whether person was linkworthy, I only considered that world was not. If you disagree, feel free to revert my edit. The worst Batman villians are Chandell & Harry, played by Liberace in the Batman TV series, because I have no recollection of them at all. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:04, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
After reading your answers, I'd rather feel free to unlink Person instead, just for balance. Everybody knows what a person is, anyway, I gather. It's those complete strangers we should really worry about, I agree; I only know of Victor Buono, and that's just sad. Cheers! InedibleHulk (talk) 04:23, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi dear GoingBatty

Hi dear GoingBatty, I wonder what's the exact problem with my article?

I've never been a wiki edit user and I don't know about the wiki rules. I've accepted the last edit by you as a professional edit user and resubmitted, but it declined again...

All I want is just to submit the article on Wikipedia.

Would you please edit the whole article, according to the wiki rules as you know all about them, that I'm really confused between. I really don't want to receive the "Submission declined" notice again.

@Anahitataaa: Hi there! At the top of your draft, it states "The content of this submission includes material that does not meet Wikipedia's minimum standard for inline citations. Please cite your sources using footnotes. For instructions on how to do this, please see Referencing for beginners", which contains four links to the "wiki rules":
If you would like your draft to become an article, please click on each link, read it in full, and create the footnotes accordingly. Creating a new article is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia, especially when you have an apparent conflict of interest, which you should disclose on your user page. Happy editing! Bot edits

Hi GB. Why is your bot making edits like this with AWB, when the rules of use state "Do not make insignificant or inconsequential edits. An edit that has no noticeable effect on the rendered page is generally considered an insignificant edit"? Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:05, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

Valerie Broussard

You haven't even read my comments about this article... Old --- why have you dumped the page I had loaded and was working on? Wiki said someone was editing at the same time and now its gone, so thanks I guess.Small text Missbellanash (talk) 15:34, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

@Missbellanash: Hi there! I read your comments at Wikipedia:Teahouse#Valerie Broussard draft and Draft:Valerie Broussard before I declined it. You can go into the draft history and retrieve anything that was accidentally removed. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:44, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Batty! It's too late. I backed up over and over the browser dumped when the contents changed. This is a problem that will probably persist in user-land, it's dangerous to try to keep things, and they really want browsers to reliably reload more than trying to protect any work we might have.

Mmm, how about you just fetch it for me. Happy Copy and Pasting!! Missbellanash (talk) 16:04, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

@Missbellanash: If you're referring to this text, you can copy and paste it. If you're referring to text you typed but were unable to save due to an edit conflict, then that's not in the page history. If you use the back arrow in your browser enough times, you might be able to retrieve it locally. Declining a draft and edit conflicts are not vandalism.
@GoingBatty: I have to apologize for the remark above, that was uncalled for and out of place. I'm sincerely sorry for typing that. Ok, I have read you comment and will agree with you. Thank you for all of your input and consideration, the template below is safe!! Bye now! Missbellanash (talk) 12:03, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

Please do not delete the AFC template or my comments. GoingBatty (talk) 16:12, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Question about a draft

Is there any problems with the Draft:Prende TV? ItsJustdancefan (talk) 01:53, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

@ItsJustdancefan: I did some copyediting for you and added a WikiProject template to the talk page. As I've mentioned before, it would be nice to see more references from after the launch date that didn't seem like press releases. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:13, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Johnny Bacolas Early Life section

Greetings GoingBatty.

I hope this isn't too big of an issue but I took the liberty of removing the Citation tag that you put on the aforementioned article section after making a few tweaks. By all means feel free to examine the changes I made and message me if there are any other concerns. Thank you. Shaneymike (talk) 01:49, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

@Shaneymike: Thanks for letting me know and for adding the references. I fixed the formatting of the references to remove the errors. Please review my edits to make sure they're correct. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:56, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

2022 Major League Baseball Season article

They Are 5 References on but is it enough to be an article contact the reviewer please. 98.186.54.177 (talk) 20:02, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

Everything in Draft:2022 Major League Baseball season needs to be referenced. I added some tags to help you see what is unreferenced. I also helped comment out the empty sections. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:11, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

But I have Had bad luck with drafting articles. 98.186.54.177 (talk) 20:39, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

MfactDr threatening falsely with vandalism

Hi, MfactDr is challenging me as I address in WP:Help desk that he continue to restore the non-reliable sources and using personal attacks and opinion at Oromia. He reverted your edit placing the template. He also agreed at Talk:Oromia that he would find federal government official website for the status Addis Ababa or Finfinne after adding unwarranted trivial primary sources. MfactDr said by his word "If you are looking for recent federal government website source I will add to the source. your complained settled!" and agreed with WP:DISCUSSCONSENSUS. Please take a measure. Regards The Supermind (talk) 12:28, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Now he accuse me for vandalism at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. The Supermind (talk) 12:33, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
@The Supermind: Sorry you're having a hard time with this article. I suggest you do not accuse editors of creating sources unless you have definitive proof of their involvement with the web site coding. Although you stated "Are you saying this source is reliable? That site obviously created by yourself recently", the link you provided is to the Internet Archive showing a version of web site from 2008. I hope you are able to find the independent reliable sources you desire, and that editors from WP:WikiProject Ethiopia will respond to your request and provide their opinions. You can also add |attention=yes to the WikiProject templates on the talk page if you like. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 13:09, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

@GoingBatty: But he falsely deceived as official website of the government of Ethiopia. In fact the site is not Ethiopian government and has unique interface. Then continue presenting this as a reliable source. That's very annoying because it has no declaration of Ethiopian government whether Finfinne is Addis Ababa and features schedule of region address. That's empty, not information. And this one is quite irrelevant to the subject. What do you think about that? The Supermind (talk) 15:27, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

@The Supermind: I don't have any expertise in determining the reliability of those websites. I hope you are able to provide sources that you find more reliable. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:31, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Jaden Howard

Hey can you move the article Draft:Jaden Howard to an actual Wikipedia article so I can get credit for transcribing and doing the research :) EditorJuniorS (talk) 01:44, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

@EditorJuniorS: Hi there! There are no independent reliable sources – and reference #3 looks like is might be a good article from XXL magazine but is really a link to his Instagram – so I will not move your draft to an article so you "can get credit". I recommend you follow the instructions at Help:Your first article. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:37, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

So I should research more an reference articles? EditorJuniorS (talk) 02:50, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

@EditorJuniorS: Yes! You should gather your references first, and then paraphrase/summarize what they say in the article. GoingBatty (talk) 03:17, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Lal Fernando

Hi, GoingBatty I checked your comments and made some changes by adding some reliable sources. Is it good to go in review now? --Vin97 17:56, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

@Vin97: No, your draft still has a lot of unreferenced information. Although your goal should be to find references that provide significant coverage of Fernando; references #2 and #7 don't seem to mention Fernando at all. The "Foreign & Local Courses" section mentions eight courses, but only one has a reference. You have to put aside everything you know about your father, and simply summarize the information you find in reliable sources. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:21, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
GoingBatty I'm having a hard time to find sources for each and everything because it's been sometime after his retirement. Basically (2) directs to his school and I'm well acknowledged that it wouldn't have some article connected to Fernando as it's a rural school. Since that shall I take it off then? Talking about (7) it directs to the page where Sri Lankan Army Medals. So that includes the medal awarded to my farther as well. so what should I be corrected here?
The "Foreign & Local Courses" aren't mentioned in any of reliable sources. Thus only the academies which courses completed can be added & it's the same for majority of courses. So that what can I do here? Vin97 18:44, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
@Vin97: You can remove (2) because it doesn't state that he attended the school. You can remove (7) because it doesn't state what medals your father earned. You can remove all the unreferenced information, and follow the guidance in Help:Your first article: gather your reliable sources, and paraphrase/summarize what they say. GoingBatty (talk) 18:51, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
GoingBatty I removed (2), (7) and foreign and local courses as well. Does it look ok now? Vin97 19:06, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
@Vin97: You're moving in the right direction. I see you removed the awards from the article, but haven't yet removed them from the infobox. Each command and staff appointment should be also referenced or removed. GoingBatty (talk) 19:17, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
GoingBatty I edited and removed the topics that reliable sources are not available. Can I resubmit for the review now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vinul Fernando (talkcontribs) 19:33, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
@Vin97: I don't see any references for RWP, MISMM, and USP. If you were to resubmit your draft now, I presume it would be rejected because the references provided do not show he meets Wikipedia's notability criteria. Four of the references are from the Army, and therefore primary sources. The two secondary sources contain only a passing mention of him, not significant coverage. GoingBatty (talk) 19:57, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Artur Mkhitaryan

Hi, GoingBatty. Can you move the article Draft:Artur Mkhitaryan to an actual Wikipedia article. There are articles about this person in Ukrainian and Russian languages.Alexandr14 (talk) 10:31, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

@Alexandr14: Hi there! You can add the code {{subst:submit}} to the top of your draft (remember to switch to the source editor first) to have your draft reviewed in the Wikipedia:Articles for creation process. While you're waiting for your review, you can continue improving the article (e.g. rewrite to use complete sentences, move punctuation before references, use italics for magazine and TV series titles, add {{cite web}} for references #1 & 2). Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 12:59, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Just going to run this idea by you. You do excellent copy edit work and I was wondering if you have time can you look at this article that I have submitted GAN July 24. If you are busy on other things I understand.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 18:38, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

@Doug Coldwell: I made some quick fixes, and will look at it in detail later. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:47, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
@Doug Coldwell:  Done! GoingBatty (talk) 20:54, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
Great. Thanks! --Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:24, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

This person is the son of Antoine Ephrem Cartier. I am thinking of submitting GAN. If you get a chance, can you take a look at it and see what you think. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:16, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

@Doug Coldwell:  Done! Did he die of kidney failure or a heart attack? The article says both. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 15:16, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the great work. When these articles become Good Articles I am going to provide on your User Page the template that you"helped" bring these to Good Article status. I'll look into kidney failure or a heart attack thing and make it one way or the other, per references. I'll submit Warren as a GAN now and handle all the issues. Thanks again!--Doug Coldwell (talk) 15:29, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
FYI, so far this month I have produced 9 Good Articles. I am aiming for a total of 200 Good Articles by Christmas.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 15:57, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

I'm trying to get this submitted GAN, however there are certain editors that won't let me submit it. They just revert my GAN submission and say the article is not ready for GAN. They won't allow a Good Article reviewer to look at it. I have recently did some additional improvements to the article. If you have the time, could you look at it. I am really interested in submitting it GAN and turning it into a Good Article. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:37, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

@Doug Coldwell:  Done! Could you please check whether "Caesar" or "Ceasar" is correct, and use it consistently in the article? I don't understand the phrase "the brothers Moses and Ceasar, as they were known by their siblings" - is there something special about being known by their first names by their siblings? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 21:18, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
Historical newspapers show "Caesar" 1,447 matches and "Ceasar Cone" some 1,128 matches -> so I picked "Caesar" for the article. Took out "as they were known by their siblings". Thanks again for the great job. I appreciate your "help" in getting this to Good Article. I will now submit GAN and see what happens. I assume you have a Watch on it.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:37, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
@Doug Coldwell: I don't have it on my watchlist, but let me know if you want me to look at it again. GoingBatty (talk) 21:42, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
O.K. I submitted it GAN and hopefully it will be allowed to be seen by a Good Article reviewer. Here is an article on Caesar Cone. Thanks for your help. Appreciate it.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:45, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

I'm trying to get this article GAN past the gatekeeper. If I can get it to an experienced Good Article reviewer, then I can get a review and solve the issues. Odds are very good that I can turn it into a Good Article. So far this month I have made 10 Good Articles. I have no trouble IF I can get the GAN to an experienced Good Article reviewer and past the gatekeeper as you can see what I have done lately. Can you take a look at Aitkem when you get a chance, if you have time -> no hurry. I would like to resubmit GAN and get an experience Good Article reviewer to review the article. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 14:38, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

@Doug Coldwell:  Done! I wanted to add {{Inflation}} for the $3,000 debt, but wasn't sure what year she had the debt. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:05, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
Great Job (as usual). I have submitted it GAN. Let's see "IF" it gets past the gatekeeper. I hope so, then I can get it reviewed and get it promoted to Good Article. You are a great help. I appreciate it.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 17:53, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
@Doug Coldwell: Oops - one more question. When I click on the ISBN for Appleby's book, and then click "Find this book on Google Books", I get three books with different subtitles. Do you want to mention which specific book is being referenced? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 18:02, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
I put in the Inflation template. The book I happen to have on my desk, so took the ISBN number and title directly off the book. Thanks, you are so thorough. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 18:20, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Susan Schwartz

Hello. I have finished up a page on Draft:Susan Schwartz and I have asked at the Teahouse how to handle the existing re-direct to a different person. Can you please leave the author-links I made to Susan Schwartz in place until that question is answered? --DaffodilOcean (talk) 12:54, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Here's the link to my question at the Teahouse [8] --DaffodilOcean (talk) 12:56, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

@DaffodilOcean: Hi there! I have responded to your Teahouse post, and reverted my removal of links to Susan Schwartz when they refer to the scientist. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 13:21, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

About draft (Dasith Nipuna Gamage)

@Cluuz: Hi there! I have declined the submission again. Which of the notability criteria at WP:MUSICBIO does he meet? GoingBatty (talk) 12:36, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi GoingBatty,

Nice to meet you again. You mentioned at the end that the 9 mentioned in WP:MUSICBIO is suitable for dasith gamage and I have mentioned it in the Career section. Referred to in reference number 3. Thank you!Cluuz (talk) 14:33, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Draft: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Dasith_Nipuna_Gamage

@Cluuz: Hi again! Please don't create a new section every time you want to respond - just keep adding to this section. I don't know if the Derana Music Video Awards is a "major music competition", since no one has created an article for it. The reference you provided states "Queen of hip-hop, Ashanthi, carried off the award for the Best Hip Hop Video for her hit, Alawanthiyak" and doesn't seem to mention Gamage. Draft:Dasith Gamage refers to the "2013 Derana Music video Awards", and links to a reference about the 2008 awards. (The article about Ashanthi De Alwis has the same problem.) Your draft says Gamage was born in 2003 (also unsourced), and doesn't explain how he would have contributed to this video while still a young child. GoingBatty (talk) 16:07, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

George Kuwayama article question

Hello GoingBatty. I see that you removed categories which I added to George Kuwayama. I am trying to understand when it is appropriate to add categories and find the matter confusing. Reading the various wp:category related articles does not help as I am mostly overwhelmed with what they state. I once inquired of someone who added categories to an article which I created and he said he really did not know either--he simply looked at similar articles and mimicked them. So that I may correctly edit withing the category realm, I am wondering what you saw that determined the removal of the categories on 20 August 2021. I desire to not make those errors again, and perhaps you can help. Most kind regards,Hu Nhu (talk) 16:05, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

@Hu Nhu: Hi there! The description on Category:WikiProject Biography articles and Category:Biography articles of living people state that these categories are intended to be used for talk pages, not articles. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:13, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your valuable comments. I have edited the draft following your comments. Could you please review the same once more? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sajidnasar4 (talkcontribs) 05:41, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

I'm very new to Wikipedia editing... Kindly excuse for the mistakes :)
Sajidnasar4 (talk) 14:19, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
@Sajidnasar4: Hi there! When indenting a conversation, use a colon instead of a space so you don't get the strange formatting in your message above. Some suggestions for Draft:K.A. Zakkariya:
  1. Each reference should mention Zakkariya, and most should provide significant coverage about Zakkariya. Reference #5 doesn't mention Zakkariya at all, so it is not helpful. Reference #6 quotes Zakkariya, but does not support the claim that he "was instrumental in starting the vocational courses at Masters Level for the first time in a university in the country".
  2. Pick one date format (either DMY or MDY) and use it consistently throughout the draft.
  3. You don't need to use the same wikilink more than once. (e.g. You don't need the links for "CUSAT", since you already linked Cochin University of Science and Technology.
  4. Footnotes should be placed after periods and commas. (e.g. Footnotes 1 & 2 are correct, but footnotes 7 & 8 should be after the period.)
  5. The names of journals, books, and newspapers should be italicized. The name of the award should not be in quotation marks.
  6. Please fix the author names in the references. (e.g. |last1=Education Online. |first1=Mathrubhumi is not correct.)
  7. Please trim the references so the work or publisher is only listed once, and uses proper Title Case. (e.g. Using |work=TIMES OF INDIA |agency=TIMES OF INDIA |publisher=TIMES OF INDIA is redundant. Using just |work=The Times of India is sufficient.)
  8. Sometimes you use "Zakkariya" as the last name, and sometime you use it as the first name. Choose whichever format is correct and be consistent.
Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 17:51, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
@GoingBatty: Hello..Good evening.. I have made some relevant changes following your recommendations. It would be highly appreciable if you could have a look at it. Sajidnasar4 (talk) 14:42, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
@Sajidnasar4: I'm rejecting the draft again because there are statements in your draft cannot be verified by the references you provided. For example, the draft states "he had been nominated to the Syndicate of Cochin University thrice", but references #6 and #7 do not state how many times he was nominated. Similarly, the draft states "He has also been elected five times", but references #8 and #9 do not state how many times he was elected. I did not check every statement and reference to see if they match, but you should do so.
I changed the bullets above to numbers. It appears you completed items 2, 4, 5 successfully. You started items 3, 6, and 7, but there's more work to be done. You still have issues with item 8 in the references. GoingBatty (talk) 15:39, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

@GoingBatty: I would like to appreciate your patience and extremely thankful for reviewing the same article again and again. Now, I have removed "number of times" from the above mentioned argumnts and also verified other claims with the references provided. Sajidnasar4 (talk) 16:17, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Some advice on Talk:Coverage of Google Street View for someone who doesn't know how to navigate Wikipedia?

Hey, sorry but didn't know who else to ask. We'd like to make sure that the article in question is correct and up to date but none of us understand the minutiae of how to navigate the bureaucracy of this website. I thought I'd reach out to you to ask if you could look at the situation on the talk page and tell us if there's anything we can do about it.

We seem to be in an argument with some guy who says that posting factual information is "going to the dogs" because he doesn't like how good our reference is, when the reference is someone who scrapes the Google API for change on a regular basis and reports the information when there are large scale updates. From our point of view these things are pretty objectively correct because the article itself is on the topic of what you can see on a website, and our sources are just compiling the data that anyone can check themselves. He keeps going on about how it's "self-published" and therefore it is bad, but again, the actual content is so easily verifiable to literally anyone with a computer, since the article itself is about the content of a public website that anyone can look at, why even have the article in the first place if it won't be updated?

Do you think it would stay up if we just made a lot of Google Maps links and used those as references, since they directly refer to Google?

If you could give me/Seb some guidance on how we would be able to get the factually correct information up to stay up, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for reading. --30 (talk) 23:00, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

@30: Hi there! In general, Wikipedia doesn't base articles on what a subject says about itself, but what other independent reliable sources say about it. At the top of Talk:Coverage of Google Street View (and most article talk pages) are links to WikiProjects. You could post on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Maps or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Google to ask (in a neutral way) other editors to join the discussion at Talk:Coverage of Google Street View#Gone to the dogs again. You could also provide independent reliable sources that are not from Virtual Streets. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 03:59, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Regex

Hello sir, Can you help us at Ks wikipedia. Actually we wanted to change "." to "۔" . Can you create regex code for it. I added this

 <Typo word="۔" find="\b.\b" replace="۔" />

but this is not working as it added ۔ after every word. We want to change fullstop with underscore like dash. Thankyou. signed, Iflaq (talk) 04:22, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

@Iflaq: Hi there! The full stop is a wildcard that matches any character - see Regular expression#Basic concepts. Instead, per Regular expression#Syntax try using \. like this:
 <Typo word="۔" find="\b\.\b" replace="۔" />
Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:35, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
@GoingBatty Thankyou for helping me. Can we modify it so that it doesn't touch url's if they are replaced the urls will broke. Thankyou once again. signed, Iflaq (talk) 04:44, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
@Iflaq: Could you please give me an example of a URL broken by my suggestion above? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 22:29, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
Besides this i want to know how can we add two finds in a single expression eg.
  <Typo word="مَنٛز" find="\b.مَنز\b" find="\b.منٛز\b replace="مَنٛز" />
as in Kashmiri language we have to make sure these Diacritics are correct. signed, Iflaq (talk) 04:51, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
@Iflaq: To combine the two finds togehter, try this:
 <Typo word="۔" find="\b\.(?:مَنز|مَنٛز)\b" replace="۔" />
Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 22:29, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

McKay Car Draft

Hi GoingBatty, I hope I am doing this right, I am new here so forgive me if this does not work. On my draft I understand why it was declined as I don't have enough references yet, I am still working on it. Thanks for your input and help. You suggested I remove indents and bold lettering but I don't see any there, is this because you edited it already? Or am I missing something? Thanks, I appreciate your help. Escooter21 (talk) 12:05, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

@Escooter21: Hi there! When you go to Draft:McKay Automobile and click on "View history", you'll see that Quisqualis removed the bolding and indents in this edit. Good luck with your draft! GoingBatty (talk) 13:05, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
:@GoingBatty: Thanks,I found that after I asked you the question, trying to find out now how to change the draft name, I can't find it in help so far. Escooter21 (talk) 13:09, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
@Escooter21: See Wikipedia:Moving a page (and also Wikipedia:Indentation for talk page conversations). GoingBatty (talk) 13:14, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
@GoingBatty:Another user suggested letting the reviewer know of my wanting to change the name and they would do it, I did, however make a request after reading what you suggested. I hope this is all typed properly, it is hard to get used to all the rules, although it does make it easier to read comments. Thanks for all you do and for all your help. sources

 – Combining sections. GoingBatty (talk) 18:30, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi GoingBatty, one of my sources is listed as, "The Nova Scotia Carriage and Motor Car Company, Limited: A Case Study in Industrial Entrepreneurship" by Barbara Robertson. In this Case Study, Barbara has compiled many references to newspaper articles, magazines, books, town council meeting minutes,Registry of Deeds and more. The Case Study in itself should be enough of a reference should it not? It is available to see by appointment by anyone interested. Escooter21 (talk) 17:33, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

@Escooter21: Note that WP:ORGCRIT emphasizes that a company "is notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject", so one source is not enough. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 17:39, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
@GoingBatty:I did manage to find a few more sources and I am working hard to learn everything here, it is hard, but I really appreciate all of your help, Thanks. Escooter21 (talk) 18:19, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

LokiOttawa

Hi there...I am looking for advice on moving forward with one of the experts for simple easily verifiable changes. The Stan Shaffer book I referred to was JUST pictures and that is in the credits. Not even his book publisher, world renown TeNeues was allowed to see what he had written. Certainly not me. There are so many other easily sourced and second partied items that I have mentioned and many are in public domain on the internet. I need an IT specialist perhaps. I suspect I am not in your age group and did not grow up with computers. Tatler magazine has asked me for a second interview. They have done one a decade ago which is referenced in my page. Incidentally I did not start my page and have no idea who did. I appreciate it but there is much left out. For e.g. I was nominated for best actress by the Saturns in the 90's. Easily found. My show actually won emmys. Again that can be sourced. Does wiki have anyone available to work on this? Regards LokiOttawa (talk) 11:43, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

@LokiOttawa: Hi there! When you start a new post on the Help desk or a user's talk page, please mention the Wikipedia article you're referring to. It took me some research to determine that you're referring to the Louise Robey article. You can look at my user page to get an idea of my age group if you want, but it is not relevant to my editing here. Composing information for a Wikipedia article has more in common with a school term paper than computers: gathering published reliable sources and summarizing/paraphrasing what they say. Since you have a conflict of interest (COI) with the Wikipedia article about you, you should not be editing it directly. Instead, you can declare your COI on your user page and submit suggestions for improving the article on the article's talk page: Talk:Louise Robey with the {{request edit}} template, which will get the attention of interested volunteer editors. Or, you may use the simpler Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard, which is more user friendly for those who are not IT specialists. If you have independent reliable published sources to provide, please do so. The Television Academy website indicates that Friday the 13th: The Series was nominated for Emmys for graphic design and visual effects, which is relevant for the article about the series, but not the article about you. The Saturn Award nomination would be a great addition (with a source), and something you may request. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 04:18, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi GoingBatty I have put in a word with LouiseRobey talk as suggested asking for editors to help. As for those directors I understand won emmys for my show, it was always a group effort so it affects me and my show. I won an award in Spain in the 90's but forget what it is. I was flown to Madrid 1st class from LA and it was televised. I was on stage and that's all I know. So many other stories. I shall do 2 more interviews with accredited journalists shortly. I hope that helps. Thanks Louise Robey LokiOttawa (talk) 12:39, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

@LokiOttawa: Hi again! For things that are "so easily verifiable", I suggest you provide the reliable sources that will be needed to add the information to the article. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 12:43, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi GoingBatty I await with baited breath any editors who might help to accredit any sources. That I hope is the way to proceed and also two interviews with magazines and online should be a start. As for being engaged to Stan Shaffer I don't have any sources for that. Best Louise Robey.LokiOttawa (talk) 08:30, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Request on 19:11:59, 4 October 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Transcender.beyond

Hello mate,

the best source for metal in my view is metal-archives.com, though this is a user-made encyclopaedia. Additional sources for this album include: https://metalitalia.com/album/doomsword-the-eternal-battle/ https://genius.com/Doomsword-eternal-battle-lyrics https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/54197/Doomsword-The-Eternal-Battle/ https://www.discogs.com/master/1542904-DoomSword-The-Eternal-Battle

In terms of notability, there are articles for every other DS album, they're a significant enough band

Are these good enough? If so, can the article be re-launched? thanks

Transcender.beyond (talk) 19:11, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

@Transcender.beyond: The notability for an album cannot be inherited from the band or their other albums - see WP:NALBUMS. Also, the notability of the band is in question, as the Doomsword article has no independent sources. Three of the four album articles have no sources at all. Maybe you can find reliable sources that provide significant coverage for these articles as well. WP:RSPSOURCES states "Song lyrics, annotations and descriptions on Genius are mostly user-generated content and are thus generally unreliable." An archived discussion about Discogs states the same issue. The album review articles you provided are better. You may improve the draft and resubmit it if you like. Happy editing! I am the subject of this page. I didn't create it but when I saw it in July, there were some errors, so I made some edits. But I didn't realise that the protocol was not to edit article information where you are the subject. Can you please advise if I should undo the edits I made?

thanks, Ann — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ausaen (talkcontribs) 02:05, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

@Ausaen: Thanks for reaching out. I reviewed the edit you made, and don't see any benefit in reverting it. If you want further updates to the article, you may declare your conflict of interest on your user page, and post on Talk:Ann Nicholson with the {{request edit}} template - or use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. Thanks for asking, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 14:54, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

The main article uses this pic from: https://www.bcdb.com/cartoons/Hanna-Barbera_Studios/A-C/The_Amazing_Chan_and_the_Chan_Clan/ The Chan article is a 1950's- 60's children's tv cartoon show. It was on for one season then released decades-later on MOD DVD. The total audience would probably be rather small but the article seems to need a picture, one, at least for the benefit of younger readers. I'm just throwing this in as an option, in case an option is needed, don't know how things are working out for the above ^^. Missbellanash (talk) 00:34, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

GB, thank you so much for fixing those glitches. I don't want to put you to this trouble any more. Ohconfucius says it due to script stalling during the edits, due to "server lag". Task 23 BattyBot

Just letting you know that BattyBot just tripped the spam blacklist 7 times with what I think is task 23. It's not the bot's fault, I believe most of these links were somehow added in another way or before it was blacklisted. Just wondering if you know of a way to circumvent this since the spam blacklist is disallow. Sennecaster (Chat) 02:25, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

@Sennecaster: Hi there! Thanks for letting me know! Could you please let me give me more details so I can see the list that you're seeing? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:56, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
@Sennecaster: Oh - I see it now at Special:Log/spamblacklist when I search for BattyBot. Let me do some testing to see what I can do. GoingBatty (talk) 03:20, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
@Sennecaster: You are correct that BattyBot 23 was the culprit. I can see that BattyBot has triggered some of those same articles before. I manually changed the youtu.be link to youtube.com, and added the other domains to the bot's list of domains to skip. I'll add a reminder for myself to check the Spam blacklist log after running the bot task in the future. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 03:44, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Gigi De Lana requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. @Usernamekiran: ...pation!  :-) For my bot task to add {{WikiProject Disambiguation}}, I loaded the entire User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects module into AWB, and then added the following code at the end (before return ArticleText;:
//Add {{WikiProject Disambiguation}} if doesn't exist
   Regex header = new Regex(@"\{\{WikiProject Disambiguation}}", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase);
   Summary = "";
   Skip = (header.Match(ArticleText).Success || !Namespace.IsTalk(ArticleTitle));
   if (!Skip)
       ArticleText = "{{WikiProject Disambiguation}}\r\n" + ArticleText;

@Flagship: Oh, are you referring to the discussion at User talk:Flagship1#Still very wrong on referencing? It appears you thanked the editor, added unreferenced information, and then submitted the draft for review. The editor wrote "If Declined, the Reviewer will identify shortfalls", which I did. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 23:18, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Ok understand. Made reference changes requested by DavidnotMD and asked for another look.

after another review DavidnotMD approved but suggested adding a little more verbage but optional so Lebanon activity was added but now deleted. Looking for Legion Of Merit citation per your request to reference and will incorporate and can submit to you for a preliminary final review if you would. Flagship1 (talk) 23:49, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

@Flagship1: When you write an article (or a draft), you should first gather the reliable sources and then summarize/paraphrase what they say - see Help:Your first article. It's a lot harder to write an article and then hunt for sources to support what you wrote. If you have some personal relationship with Williams, then you need to declare your conflict of interest on your user page. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 13:07, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Uploading gif image to mood ring site

Hi, I followed GoingBatty's advice to 1st upload my original mood ring gif using File Upload Wizard. I did not publish yet as further instrx were to go to the mood ring article & replace existing non-original mood ring gif with my gif HOWEVER I then need to add File:Yourfilename.gif... BUT which category on Wizard page is the file name - Image Title, Caption, Description? Thanks so much Moodman001 (talk) 15:09, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Courtesy link: Wikipedia:Teahouse § Uploading gif image to mood ring site
@Moodman001: On the "Describe" tab, the file name is the Image title. It appears you successfully uploaded two files to Commons in July: File:OrigDrBlue.jpg and File:Mood Stone User Guide.png. Thank you for declaring your conflict of interest on your user page. Instead of editing the article directly, you may post suggestions on Talk:Mood ring with the {{request edit}} template or use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. Either way, please provide independent reliable sources. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 15:26, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Still confused. On Describe pg, Image asks for "Create a unique descriptive title using plain language with spaces. Omit the file extension, if any. So do I enter the new jpeg gif there, or a full description eg, The Original Mood Stone ring? And if it wants a full description then what's the new file name to be, and where do I enter it. Sorry for ignorance;) Moodman001 (talk) 15:49, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

@Moodman001: You should enter the full description in the "Description" field. In the "Image title", you type the words that will become the file name. GoingBatty (talk) 16:01, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Image successful BUT the Replace "code" also shows on the top of page - [[Replace [[File:Moodring1.jpg|thumb|A mood ring shown face front, showing a band of green color change across a brown background]] Moodman001 (talk) 17:05, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

What did I do wrong?Moodman001 (talk) 17:43, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

@Moodman001: Congratulations on uploading the photo! "Replace" means "substitute" or "take the place of". To be more clear, I could have written:

A tag has been placed on Fa'Bidden Jewlz requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Feaco

Hi, thanks for your tips in the Teahouse. I tried to get more reference links into the article. The past presidents are only listed on the feaco webpage feaco.org. I found some articles about the former president at least... What do you think about the text now? Can you find a source I didn´t mentioned yet? Thanks a lot for your help! :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akbn24 (talkcontribs) 14:35, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

@Akbn24: Hi there! It seems you have written the draft, and are now trying to find references. It would be easier for you to first gather your independent reliable sources and then write the draft by summarizing/paraphrasing what they published. If you cannot find sufficient independent sources, then the organization won't meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for organizations. I recommend you read Help:Your first article if you have not done so already. Hope this helps, and happy editing! @GoingBatty: Hi, of course I´ve read about the first article and wrote my article first out of the sources. As I mentioned before it worked without problems in the German Wikipedia, but not in the English one. That´s why I added more sources. But I still don´t understand why the Wikipedia are working that different... :-( Akbn24 (talk) 13:44, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
@Akbn24: I don't understand how you wrote the English draft based on independent reliable sources. At the time I reviewed the draft, the lead, "Mission", "Feaco State of the industry barometer", and "Past Presidents" sections did not list any independent sources - only links to the Feaco web site. The "Current members" section had references to the home page of their web sites, which do not appear to mention Feaco. Also, if your draft is a translation of the German Wikipedia article, please provide attribution per WP:TFOLWP. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:15, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

"‎Suggestions for resubmitted article"

Hi GoingBatty, sorry if I answer here but I'm a noob and I can't find our conversation in the Teahouse. I would like to thank you for your advice. I have edited the text as you suggested. Thank again, EnḫeduannaS (talk) 18:44, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

@EnḫeduannaS: Hi there! Posts at the Teahouse get archive if they haven't been updated in a few days, so yours is now at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive 1128#Suggestions for resubmitted article. Hope you'll answer the question about whether you have a conflict of interest at the top of the draft. Good luck with your draft! GoingBatty (talk) 19:14, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
@GoingBatty: Hi! thanks for informing me about where the Teahouse conversations go after a few days :). I have already answered the question about COI in a conversation with the Eternal Shadow, who first asked me that question [9], should I also add a reference/link to that conversation in the sandbox? Any other advice to improve the text is welcome! thanks again for your help, have a nice day!EnḫeduannaS (talk) 09:52, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
@EnḫeduannaS: I think it would be helpful if you reanswered the COI question on Draft:Demian Conrad, so it doesn't appear like you're ignoring it. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:41, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

There is a mop reserved in your name

You are a remarkable editor in many ways. You would be a good administrator, in my opinion, and appear to be well qualified. You personify an administrator without tools and have gained my support already!

Hello GoingBatty. I wanted to send you this message to thank you for all you are doing to improve Wikipedia, and ask if you've ever considered serving as an administrator? In many ways, a cursory review of your contributions suggest that you are well suited for the role and I personally believe that your RfA would succeed.--John Cline (talk) 10:33, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

@John Cline: Thank you very much for your kind words. I like helping people and relax by making edits, but intentionally stay away from trying to resolve drama. Thanks again for thinking of me! GoingBatty (talk) 15:47, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
For what it's worth, resolving drama isn't really required if that's not what you want to do. In my experience, the sysop tools have made it easier to help people. It's usually not that visible, but some of the more rewarding work for me has been giving user rights to editors who need them (even or especially outside the PERM process), providing deleted drafts to editors who want to pick an article back up, using history merge to fix cut-and-paste moves, and various other gnomish work. I'd encourage you to look into the tools that come with the user group and think about which ones you would find most useful in expanding the work you are already doing. Wug·a·po·des 18:46, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
  • I am wiling to endorse this as well. While I don't believe Batty has any GAs or FAs under his belt, there is enough mainspace contribution to assuage my concerns and the BattyBot and Teahouse activities are more than enough for an RfA. AfD is a bit low but the matches and noms are good. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 15:04, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
  • You meet my requirements, but do bear in mind RfA is a bit of a gauntlet run to say the least. Consider it with caution, but you'd be an asset to the team! ~TheresNoTime (to explain!) 14:38, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
  • You're doing a great job already and could clearly be trusted with a mop. For me, the only question is whether tasks you do (or would like to do) would be easier with the tools. The one obstacle I can see is that some voters are reluctant to appoint an editor whose primary contribution is not article creation. Certes (talk) 17:18, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

https://i.ibb.co/hg5XXqX/141234.jpg I draw a picture, I hope it can make you understand the situation of prince Mikhailo Volkonsky. I don't have any data about Borovsk defenders and attackers. In prince Mikhailo Volkonsky early campaign he led around 3,000 man-at-arms. According by Y. G. Alekseev, Tushino Army around 13,000 ~ 15,000 during 1610 poles invasion. Volkonsky is the royal prince and Pantler, His title is Okolnichy, he can lead 3,000 men without Tsar permission. He defeat Tushino army and Ivan Bolotnikov many time during 1606-1610. He can defeat False Dmitry II with Shuysky support. When the Seven Boyars overthrew the Vasili IV, oops, no one can help prince Volkonsky. He is surrounded by enemies, he still keep an epic fight with ten of thousand enemies in 3 weeks.--折毛 (talk) 07:00, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

De-pollution of AC with 0 elements

Re 'the category page states that this category "contains non-article pages"': to what category text are you referring?   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  12:33, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

@Tom.Reding: Hi there! The blue box at the top of Category:AC with 0 elements states "This is a maintenance category, used for maintenance of the Wikipedia project. It is not part of the encyclopedia and contains non-article pages..." Therefore, I've added there {{polluted category}} template so this category doesn't appear on Wikipedia:Database reports/Polluted categories. Thanks for asking, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:24, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
The text, "It is not part of the encyclopedia and contains non-article pages, or groups articles by status rather than subject.", contains the word "or", and therefore should not be used to determine whether or not a category is or isn't polluted. AC with 0 elements, and all similar categories, only contains articles, and is/are therefore not polluted.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  19:13, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
@Tom.Reding: But it doesn't only contain articles - it also contains:
GoingBatty (talk) 19:27, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
This is strange. How are you determining that?
I just used AWB to grab all 660k+ pages, used the native filter function to keep everything except "mainspace", and was left with 0.
Further, manually inspecting all of the above pages, none of them show "AC with 0 elements" next to "Hidden categories:". "AC with 0 elements" only shows when previewed, under "This page is a member of 2 hidden categories (help) :". How is that happening? A null edit did not fix this.
Even further, Module:Authority control contains the code:
local title = mw.title.getCurrentTitle()
local namespace = title.namespace

...

if namespace == 0 or testcases then
local eCat = 'AC with '..rct..' elements'
	elementsCat  = '[[Category:'..eCat..']]'..p.redCatLink(eCat)
end

...

local auxCats = worldcatCat..elementsCat..multipleIdCat..suppressedIdCat..suppressedIdCatArts..
				deprecatedIdCat..differentOnWDCat..sameOnWDCat..stateCat
if testcases then
	auxCats = mw.ustring.gsub(auxCats, '(%[%[)(Category)', '%1:%2') --for easier checking
end
which should make it impossible for namespace != 0 pages to be categorized.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  20:38, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
@Tom.Reding: In AWB, I logged in as BattyBot, and ensured List > Remove non-mainspace was unchecked. Then I searched Source: Category (NL, Admin & Bot) and Category: AC with 0 elements, and got 664,049 results. I then clicked the Filter button, checked every namespace, unchecked Main/Article, and clicked Apply. Once again, I got the 16 pages I posted above. GoingBatty (talk) 01:16, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

creation Marzio Honorato

Hello, help me to create the page of Marzio Honorato (Italian actor) I have already created a draft here ... Draft:Marzio Honorato. Liogrmlt (talk) 01:13, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

@Liogrmlt:  Done! Please add your sources to the draft before submitting it. If you know Honorato or work for him or have any other relationship that would cause a conflict of interest, you must declare it on your user page before proceeding. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:28, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

The source is taken from wikipedia in Italian. Liogrmlt (talk) 02:32, 8 November 2021 (UTC) I'm not very practical, I'm only interested in creating the version on the English wiki, can you help me get it accepted? Liogrmlt (talk) 02:54, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

@Liogrmlt: You can consider using the sources in it:Marzio Honorato in your English draft, and also find your own sources. You should also follow the instructions in WP:TFOLWP. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 01:55, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi, I tried to put the sources on the draft, but they keep refusing it, I also put the imdb source link, can you help me to accept it? Liogrmlt (talk) 14:35, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

@Liogrmlt: I tweaked your draft, and then rejected it again. Please do not resubmit it until you have added multiple reliable sources with footnotes. Please review the blue links in the pink boxes at the top of your draft for more information. GoingBatty (talk) 13:56, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Can you help me with the references? I don't know how to insert them. Liogrmlt (talk) 15:01, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

@Liogrmlt: I added a temporary reference for you, so you can see how it works. To have this draft accepted at the English Wikipedia, you may need to find more reliable sources than were used in the Italian Wikipedia. Also, I see that you declared your COI on the draft, but not on your user page. You can use {{userboxCOI}} for this if you like, or just type a sentence or two. Thanks! Brent Olson page

I managed to find Brents new book on Amazon but he still should have his page reinstated. I read the discussion about the deletion and saw It was done based on the site newspapers.com which doesn't make sense to me. I have his other books so I know he is legit. Been following him for years. I don't know much about how Wikipedia works other than I use it from time to time. When I read his page a few years ago, it looked good to me. The other day I tried and found it was removed. I just don't understand why. Maybe you could reinstate it or please tell me what was wrong with it. His latest article that is on dtn, and other sites around the US was where I found out about the deletion. Capman 99 (talk) 15:19, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

@Capman 99: Since I'm not an administrator, I can neither read the deleted article nor reinstate it. Wikipedia's notability requirements for authors is not based on the books they write, but what other people write about the authors and their books. On Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brent Olson, you can click on "Help:My article got nominated for deletion!" and scroll down to the "What you can do after deletion?" section to see some options you have now. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 22:29, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

I talked to Brent Olson and he has updated his page. How do I reach a admin to see if he can get his page back up? Capman 99 (talk) 18:08, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

@Capman 99: The fact that you talked with Olson makes me concerned that you may have a conflict of interest, which must be declared on your user page. After that, feel free to utilize the options I mentioned above. GoingBatty (talk) 18:17, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

I don't think I even have a page. I don't know how to do it or what I would even put on it. I'm just a computer technician that runs a computer shop. I'm semi retired so I don't really need a page. How would I know if I had a page? I signed up with Wikipedia so does that mean I have a page? I contacted Brent through email and he answered. What do I do? I don't want a page. Capman 99 (talk) 18:07, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

@Capman 99: Notice that your user name is displayed in red, which indicates that you do not yet have a user page. Please read Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. If this applies to your relationship with Olson, and you are going to be involved in the creation of a Wikipedia article about Olson, then you can create a user page by clicking on your red user name and follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI. GoingBatty (talk) 21:27, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

Brent Olson contacted me and I guess he updated something called wix. Not sure what that is but he said he is going to get help updating his Wikipedia page. So I guess all is well. I still have questions about Wikipedia. Would you like to email me and educate me a bit about Wikipedia? Do other computer shops actually have pages? [email protected] Capman 99 (talk) 18:28, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

@Capman 99: Wix.com is a website builder tool that is not associated with Wikipedia. I prefer to keep conversations about Wikipedia on Wikipedia talk pages, and not on email. Wikipedia hosts encyclopedia articles about notable topics, and many computer shops would not meet the inclusion criteria defined at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). GoingBatty (talk) 21:27, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I use Wikipedia but never saw a small computer shop. Mostly corporations and stuff. I find Wikipedia very useful finding out about computers, programming, and electronics. Thank you for being kind and patient. Capman 99 (talk) 15:14, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Teahouse question

Hello! I"m only here to ask you this: Would it be appropriate to ask a question again if I didn't receive a very good answer? I'm only asking because I asked the question Refs that prove an entire "section", however I didn't receive the answer I was looking for as the user who answered, gave me an answer related to the wrong part of the article, and I had then pinged them telling them that it was for a different section, however I still have not received a new answer. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:15, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

@Blaze The Wolf: I don't suggest reasking the question in the same forum, especially since the question has not been archived. GoingBatty (talk) 16:23, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
Alright. Where do you suggest I ask it then? ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:50, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Request on 17:29:33, 12 November 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Woodag

Thank you for your helpful comments on my draft:Parsons Restaurant; would scans of the menu and articles I referred to be considered reliable sources? Woodag (talk) 17:29, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

@Woodag: Scans of the menu would not be independent sources. Most of the references are from independent reliable sources such as major newspapers and magazines, but don't have enough information for a reader to go find the articles themselves. The noehill.com reference has information about the Old Spaghetti Factory, but doesn't say anything about Parsons. I added a wikilink for you, and think you should remove the noehill.com reference. Similarly, I don't know what value the NYT article about the Great American Disaster has for an article about Parsons. Articles should not have external links in the body for the article. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 19:21, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

When is a list not a list?

The article Religious symbolism in U.S. sports team names and mascots is clearly a list of Christian schools that call themselves "Saints" or other references to their religious identity, plus a few public schools that identify with the town which was named after a saint. I encountered this article last month and cleaned it up, which removed much of the text as un-sourced and non-encyclopedic. The article has existed since 2010, which indicates that it is meaningful, and other editors have subsequently added to the list, but I could find no references for any additional text content. I put in a move request to have the title reflect its categorization as a list but this received no votes so I left it for now, but expected to eventually do the move as uncontroversial. However your recent edit removed the article from the list category.--WriterArtistDC (talk) 13:20, 13 November 2021 (UTC)

@WriterArtistDC: Hi there! Category:List-Class List articles appears on Wikipedia:Database reports/Polluted categories, which I clean up every month. The category is intended for talk pages, not articles. Before removing the category from Religious symbolism in U.S. sports team names and mascots, I confirmed that Talk:Religious symbolism in U.S. sports team names and mascots was a member of the category, via {{WikiProject Lists}}. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 14:43, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, my participation in WP is rather narrow in spite of my tenure, nor very technical in spite of having been a coder. As an admin, would you agree that article rename could be done as uncontroversial?--WriterArtistDC (talk) 15:46, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
@WriterArtistDC: I am not an admin, but it seems that the limited discussion at Talk:Religious symbolism in U.S. sports team names and mascots#Requested move 16 October 2021 indicates that your proposed move may not be uncontroversial - see WP:RM#CM. Request on 07:15:21, 24 November 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Claire Leaf

Hi - thanks for reviewing and updating page with a link for the term flagged 'status epilepticus'.

Are there any other issues that need to be improved before this can be approved? Thanks for explaining.

BattyBot Task 25

Hello GoingBatty, I was wondering about Task 25 as it does some month translations, would it be possible to add date translations from Persian as there appears to be a significant number of these causing date errors. Google translate does not work with these. Thanks. Keith D (talk) 23:28, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

@Keith D: Hi there! Could you please give me an example? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:30, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
Hello, you could try ref 8 in Safir (rocket). Keith D (talk) 00:05, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
I confirmed that my bot doesn't currently translate from Persian to English. Could you point me to a good translation source? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 00:19, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Sorry have no idea of translation source, may need some Persian speakers. Keith D (talk) 00:57, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
@Keith D: I asked for help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Iran#Persian dates in citation templates. GoingBatty (talk) 04:21, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Try using the the #time parser function?
{{lang|fa|{{#time:d F Y|2021-11-27|fa}}}}۲۷ نوامبر ۲۰۲۱
From that we learn:
نوامبر → November
۰ → 0
۱ → 1
۲ → 2
۷ → 7
and that numbers are written left to right but months are written right-to-left.
Finding the other digits and date names is a simple matter of manipulating the YMD date in the #time parser function call. For digits you can assume that:
U+06F0 (EXTENDED ARABIC-INDIC DIGIT SEVEN) → ۰ → 0 so
U+06F1 → ۱ → 1
U+06F2 → ۲ → 2
U+06F3 → ۳ → 3
U+06F4 → ۴ → 4
U+06F5 → ۵ → 5
U+06F6 → ۶ → 6
U+06F7 → ۷ → 7
U+06F8 → ۸ → 8
U+06F9 → ۹ → 9
Months:
ژانویه → January
فوریه → February
مارس → March
آوریل → April
مه → May
ژوئن → June
ژوئیه → July
اوت → August
سپتامبر → September
اکتبر → October
نوامبر → November
دسامبر → December
Trappist the monk (talk) 12:12, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
@Trappist the monk: Thank you! Is it possible to use the #time function with an input of the value in the citation template (e.g. ۱۳۹۴/۰۱/۱۷ - ۱۱:۴۱) and output a CS1 valid date format? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 16:58, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Not so far as I know. #time parser function apparently doesn't understand non-English names as input:
{{lang|es|{{#time:d F Y|2021-11-27|es}}}}27 noviembre 2021
{{#time:d F Y|27 noviembre 2021}}Error: Invalid time.
nor does it understand non-Latin digits:
{{lang|fa|{{#time:Y|2021|fa}}}}۲۰۲۱
{{#time:Y|۲۰۲۱}}Error: Invalid time.
Because of that, when I wrote Module:Month translator I had to create a table that holds the inverted results from the Lua equivalent of the parser function.
Trappist the monk (talk) 17:23, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
@Trappist the monk: That's a bummer. So how would you manually convert ۱۳۹۴/۰۱/۱۷ - ۱۱:۴۱ to a valid value. I would presume that ۱۳۹۴/۰۱/۱۷ is in YYYY/MM/DD format, but ۱۳۹۴ doesn't appear to be a valid year. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 17:39, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Hijri calendar? ۱۳۹۴/01/17 → 1394/01/17HA? I don't know that the date is actually a Hijri date but, if it is, this site converts that date to Feb 9, 1974. I don't know how accurate the conversion is because #time parser disagrees:
{{#time:xmY/xmn/xmj|1974-02-09}} → 1394/1/16
#time parser does not convert Hijri dates to Gregorian or other western calendars. cs1|2 only supports Julian and Gregorian calendars. As with any translation, translations in the source are preferred over translations that we might make ourselves.
Trappist the monk (talk) 18:21, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
@Trappist the monk: Since the reference is supposed to be supporting a 2008 rocket launch, it doesn't seem that 1974 would be correct. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 18:34, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
The page is Safir (rocket)? An Iranian rocket so perhaps the Iranian Solar Hijri calendar? This site converts 1394/01/17 to 2015-04-06; #time parser agrees:
{{#time:xiY/xin/xij|2015-04-06}} → 1394/1/17

Thanks for the note on the Argonne page about the repertoires. The source is from paper brochures produced from 56-75 by Miller Printers of Great Bend, Ks. We possess the actual brochures. How do we cite those as a source? Pictures of paper copies? Pictures of original score sheets from the actual contests? Just wanting some guidance and assistance. Argonne73 (talk) 19:21, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
@Argonne73: I suggest focusing on independent sources: web sites, newspapers, magazines, books, and/or encyclopedias that provide significant coverage of the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps. This may mean deleting the details of which pieces they performed each year. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 21:04, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi there GoingBatty: It seems that you added a dead link on the Argonne Rebels page today. It seems to be working on our end and doesn't appear to be link rot. Is there something that we missed?Argonne73 (talk) 02:55, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

@Argonne73: It wasn't working for me at the time I added the template, but it's working for me now. Therefore, I removed the templates. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 03:27, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for checking, Going Batty! The song list serves two purposes: it cites the year of the placement in national competition in addition to citing the winning repertoires for the national placement. I agree that the theme column should be removed but citing the national level of placement is important for documentation of national achievements. What are your thoughts? Argonne73 (talk) 03:57, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
@Argonne73: Well, the point is moot now, since Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps is now a redirect to List of defunct Drum Corps International member corps#Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps. GoingBatty (talk) 04:09, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Argonne

The AFD for Argonne was extended to December 21st yesterday, and then suddently deleted last evening with no reason given. Can you explain the reasons some people on here are so vindictive regrding topics of which they have no knowledge? Argonne73 (talk) 17:43, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Argonne

GoingBatty: Do you why the Argonne article/page was deleted after it was granted until December 21st to add sources and citations? Hard to believe that a 5th place finish in the first DCI and 3 AL championships is not enough to allow it to remain. Thanks!Argonne73 (talk) 23:03, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

@Argonne73: Please read Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps carefully:
  • The article was not deleted - Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps is now a redirect to List of defunct Drum Corps International member corps, which has substantially similar content about the corps. You can also still view the history of the article.
  • It was not granted until December 21st to add sources and citations - editing of the AfC page by new or unregistered users was disabled until December 21.
  • Saying no reason was given is incorrect - it states "Consensus seems clear that there is not enough significant coverage in reliable, independent sources to support having a standalone article", which is the criteria for organizations listed at WP:ORGCRIT. It doesn't matter how well the corps finished in championships, but whether other people thought the corps was important enough to write about.
  • Calling other volunteer editors "vindictive" is not appropriate - please be civil, even when things don't go your way.
You may continue adding sources to List of defunct Drum Corps International member corps. Maybe one day a standalone article can be recreated with more sources. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:30, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Telling a fan to declare a COI

Hey! I noticed that you told a new user who said they were a fan of something to declare a COI. I thought being a fan wasn't actually a COI? Or were you simply just telling them that in case they have a relation with the company/business/whatever it is? ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:19, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

@Blaze The Wolf: I attempted to be careful when writing "if you have a conflict of interest" (emphasis added) and not accuse them of having a COI. Sorry if it didn't come across that way. GoingBatty (talk) 17:06, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

saw your comment about Achmester. Totally agree.

Assume you are in Delaware? Wondering if you could help me properly edit another National Register site in Delaware? Can we communicate via email? All this wiki stuff confuses me! :) dd — Preceding unsigned comment added by 100.19.59.78 (talk) 03:16, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi there! I don't think I edited the Achmester article until after you posted your message. I prefer to keep Wikipedia conversations on wiki. What article would you like help with? GoingBatty (talk) 05:00, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

I really don't know how to communicate here, and it requires me to check back instead of messages coming to my Inbox? You definitely edited Achmester before my first message here, or how else would I have seen you and your post about it?  :) I was trying to add some information to another Delaware NR property, but not sure I did it right. Can't add photos? could sure use some help!  :) And they have it listed as "House at 901 Mt. Lebanon Road." It should just be "901." And be re-alphabetized. I also had this question which I put on the page, but it has not been responded to: "How do you link on/to National Register of Historic Places listings in northern New Castle County, Delaware#Current listings THE LINK ON THIS PAGE FOR THE "HOUSE AT 901 MOUNT LEBANON ROAD" says it does not exist. On THAT page, how do I get it to link back to this page?" With full transparency, this is the home my parents built, and I live here now. I worked with the UofD Center for Historic Architecture to get it listed on the NR. Any help you can provide would be so appreciated. Wikipedia is all Green to me! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 100.19.59.78 (talk) 03:18, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

You're asking a lot of things, so let me try to address them one by one:
1. There is no "Inbox" on Wikipedia. If you log in to Wikipedia with a username and password, there are Preferences you can set to send you to be notified (on Wiki and/or by email) when someone responds to your messages.
2. Looking at the history of the Achmester article, you can see I made no edits before December 3. What is the exact URL where you saw my post?
3. Where were you trying to add some information to another Delaware NR property? At User:TumbleCreek/sandbox or somewhere else?
4. If you log in to Wikipedia, you can then add photos via the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. However, Wikipedia takes copyright seriously - you can't just find a photo on the internet and upload it. Be sure to read Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Image use policy, especially if you're not the photographer.
5. We can update National Register of Historic Places listings in northern New Castle County, Delaware#Current listings to change "House at 901 Mount Lebanon Road" to "901 Mount Lebanon Road", but how would you want it to be alphabetized? Would you want it at the beginning (since numbers would come before letters), or alphabetized as if it were "Nine hundred one"? Or something else?
6. I see your question at User:TumbleCreek/sandbox. (Are you TumbleCreek? If so, log in to Wikipedia as TumbleCreek every time you edit, including writing on user talk pages.) The draft would have to become an article before we could have National Register of Historic Places listings in northern New Castle County, Delaware#Current listings link to it. On User:TumbleCreek/sandbox there's a big blue button that says "Submit your draft for review", but your draft would probably not be accepted for several reasons:
a. There are no sources that support the statements "It was built in 1950", it "is now recognized as mid-century modern architecture", and "It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017."
b. It's not clear how reference #1 (about State Bridge Number 523) relates to 901 Mount Lebanon Road
c. The tables listed on the draft should be changed to {{Infobox NRHP}} (like you see on the Achmester article)
7. Creating an article about your own house is a conflict of interest, which you would have to declare on your user page when submitting the draft for review. If your draft becomes an article, you would not be able to edit it further, but could ask for independent assistance by posting a {{edit request}} on the article talk page.
Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 04:17, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

Bots Newsletter, December 2021

Bots Newsletter, December 2021
BRFA activity by month

Welcome to the eighth issue of the English Wikipedia's Bots Newsletter, your source for all things bot. Maintainers disappeared to parts unknown... bots awakening from the slumber of æons... hundreds of thousands of short descriptions... these stories, and more, are brought to you by Wikipedia's most distinguished newsletter about bots.

Our last issue was in August 2019, so there's quite a bit of catching up to do. Due to the vast quantity of things that have happened, the next few issues will only cover a few months at a time. This month, we'll go from September 2019 through the end of the year. I won't bore you with further introductions — instead, I'll bore you with a newsletter about bots.

Overall

  • Between September and December 2019, there were 33 BRFAs. Of these, Green checkmarkY 25 were approved, and 8 were unsuccessful (Dark red X symbolN2 3 denied, Blue question mark? 3 withdrawn, and Expired 2 expired).

September 2019

Look! It's moving. It's alive. It's alive... It's alive, it's moving, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!
  • Green checkmarkY Monkbot 16, DannyS712 bot 60, Ahechtbot 6, PearBOT 3, Qbugbot 3 · Dark red X symbolN2 DannyS712 bot 5, PkbwcgsBot 24 · Blue question mark? DannyS712 bot 61, TheSandBot 4
  • TParis goes away, UTRSBot goes kaput: Beeblebrox noted that the bot for maintaining on-wiki records of UTRS appeals stopped working a while ago. TParis, the semi-retired user who had previously run it, said they were "unlikely to return to actively editing Wikipedia", and the bot had been vanquished by trolls submitting bogus UTRS requests on behalf of real blocked users. While OAuth was a potential fix, neither maintainer had time to implement it. TParis offered to access to the UTRS WMFLabs account to any admin identified with the WMF: "I miss you guys a whole lot [...] but I've also moved on with my life. Good luck, let me know how I can help". Ultimately, SQL ended up in charge. Some progress was made, and the bot continued to work another couple months — but as of press time, UTRSBot has not edited since November 2019.
  • Article-measuring contest resumed: The list of Wikipedians by article count, which had lain dead for several years, was triumphantly resurrected by GreenC following a bot request.

October 2019

November 2019

Now you're thinking with portals.

December 2019

In the next issue of Bots Newsletter:
What's next for our intrepid band of coders, maintainers and approvers?

  • What happens when two bots want to clerk the same page?
  • What happens when an adminbot goes hog wild?
  • Will reFill ever get fixed?
  • What's up with ListeriaBot, anyway?
  • Python 3.4 deprecation? In my PyWikiBot? (It's more likely than you think!)

These questions will be answered — and new questions raised — by the January 2022 Bots Newsletter. Tune in, or miss out!

Signing off... jp×g 04:29, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

List of Dutch extradition treaties - This article has multiple issues

Hey GoingBatty,

I saw you add some comments to the page “List of Dutch extradition treaties“. The critique about it being an orphan is clear to me and I'll make some references. I, however, also read that you noticed a lack of verification. Where is extra verification needed?

To end. You also remarked after a couple of sentences that clarification is needed. For some of them I have an idea how to improve it. For some I do not. The sentences I'd like to have some guidance on are:

- There are countries with which the Netherlands has a classic[clarification needed] extradition treaty and countries which fall, together with the Netherlands, under the system of the European Arrest Warrant

- 2. The elimination system - In this system, there is no list. Dual criminality is established if the crime is punishable in both countries and is threatened with a minimum maximum penalty[clarification needed] in both countries.

- 3. The combination system - These are treaties with a list and a minimum maximum sentence[clarification needed].

- If the extradition cannot take place because the maximum penalty in one of the countries does not fulfill the minimum[clarification needed] established in the treaty, extradition can still happen if the crime is listed in the treaty.

With regards to some of my sources I'd like to add that it wasn't always possible to find an anglophone alternative. With more recent treaties (e.g. Australia, Canada and the US) I can find them in the national treaty series of the respective countries or the UN treaty series. Some are too old (e.g. Argentina (1893), Liberia (1895) or Mexico (1907)) or the official language of the the country is Dutch too (e.g. Surinam). In those cases it was impossible to find an alternative in English.

I hope you can help me a little and we can improve the page so it fulfills the criteria of wikipedia. Maybe you can help me a little extra as this is my first page in English.

Kind regards,

--TomdeGroen (talk) 17:13, 14 December 2021 (UTC)TomdeGroen

@TomdeGroen: The goal of my bot's edit was to change {{unreferenced}} to {{more citations needed}} since there are now references on the article. This is one of AutoWikiBrowser's general fixes. The bot is unable to determine where there is still a lack of verification (or if there even is a lack of verification). Looking at the article, I see that the "Types of extradition" and "Types of treaties" sections have no references, so I hope you could add some references there. Thanks, and happy editing! Redirecting Paul Bushenll

Can you please consider undoing the redirect of Paul Bushnell's article to Edna Swap? I never received any notification from you regarding issues of notability and I would like to have the opportunity to add additional content and cite references. I thought it was Wikipedia etiquette to contact the creator of an article or post a notification on the article before redirecting and deleting the article. thank you so much Pennyframstad (talk)penny

@Pennyframstad: If you view the history of the Paul Bushnell article, you'll see that Onel5969 changed the article to a redirect, so you might want to reach out to that editor instead. You replied to my question at Teahouse/Questions, and I thought I replied back to you there. However, when the page was archived, it looks like it wasn't changed. So here's my question and your response again (my computer doesn't like to copy/paste):

"I'm confused about my Watchlist: in mid-December four of my edits (three minor) were highlighted on my Watchlist (and on my Contributions page also). Nothing happened to the edits at that time, and I think the highlights were automated. However, on Dec 23 somebody tinkered with my edit (which is fine) but nothing appeared about it on my Watchlist at that time, although that page is definitely listed to be watched. I wonder how many other changes to my watched pages have been made that I've missed. Does this have anything to do with the Watchlist filters?"

You replied: "Maybe. It might help if you mention the pages in question and the filters you have enabled."

The edits highlighted on my Watchlist page are: Dec 18 Captive City (5:50)

       Captive City (6:08)
       Private Hell 36 (7:52)

Dec 15 711 Ocean Drive (7:25)

The edit that didn't show up: Dec 27 711 Ocean Drive (14:10) user Gcjnst

The Watchlist filters enabled are:

 Likely have problems
 Very likely have problems
 page edits
 page creations
 category creations
 logged actions

@Pete Best Beatles: After looking at mw:Help:New filters for edit review/Quality and Intent Filters, my guess is the edit to 711 Ocean Drive did not appear because you chose to filter your watchlist to only see edits that "Likely have problems" or "Very likely have problems". If you remove those filters, does the edit appear on your watchlist? Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 22:51, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
