WikiProject NBA rating & importance
[edit]The Elton Brand article has been listed with the WikiProject National Basketball Association. Brand's defensive and offensive numbers throughout his career, the numerous awards he received (Rookie of the Year, NBA All-Star), and his pivotal role in helping lead the Los Angeles Clippers' organization in the 2000's deem him to be of Mid-level importance (if not higher). This article is given a "B" rating: it provides a broad history of Brand's basketball career, but lacks adequate citations (no citations yet listed in "Early Life", "College" or "NBA - Bulls" sections). Furthermore, the article could use edits to improve the writing style.--Djrun (talk) 00:24, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
WikiProject Biography rating
[edit]The Elton Brand article has been re-assessed with a B-rating. Currently the article contains a broad history of Brand's basketball career, but lacks adequate citations (no citations yet listed in "Early Life", "College" or "NBA - Bulls" sections). Furthermore, the article could use edits to improve the writing style (see the "Player profile" section for a good example). Additionally, more biographical information will be necessary before this article can receive a higher rating. For example, more history is needed in the "College" section and more thorough information in the "NBA" section.--Djrun (talk) 23:48, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Frustration in LA
[edit]Citing points-per-game to make the argument that Elton Brand regressed in the 2006-07 season is an example of a poor use of statistics.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/brandel01.html
Per 36 statistics have been proven time and time again to be a more accurate indicator of a player's value and while Brand's per 36 points-per-game number dropped, his field goal percentage actually increased. What Brand experienced in 2006-07 was actually an increase in scoring efficiency, regardless of his points-per-game total. Because Brand's numbers stayed relatively constant from 2005-06 to 2006-07, it's more likely that the Clippers' failure in 2006-07 had more to do with his teammates than Brand himself. In the article, it appears as if Brand is receiving the blame for the team's exclusion from the playoffs.
While I understand that not many people have given thought to the new studies in basketball statistics, this statement belongs in a poorly-written article in the NY Post, not Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RHarnden86 (talk • contribs) 15:47, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Player profile
[edit]I deleted the undersize comparison to Charles Barkley, as Brand is 6'9" and Barkley was less than 6'5". Also, the article currently states Brand is "one of the top power forwards in the NBA". I added Whom? mark-up. One of the top NBA power forwards would not be a 2-time all-star, would anyone else agree? One could argue for about half of his career he was considered one of the games top 10 power forwards but he has not been mentioned as one of the top power forwards for quite some time.
