sumo stable category

Hi Leveni. Your recent stable/heya additions are very welcome. Let's see. I don't think there is any way to edit category pages themselves. You have to go to the individual articles and add the tag for the category you want to that article's page and then it will appear on the category page. By the way, if by chance you haven't found your way there, Wikipedia:WikiProject Sumo is in full swing recently that you might want to check out. Spam in Greg vezina

visual system

There are pathways in the visual system both in cortex and also outside cortex: Eye motion and head motion are intertwined. Right now the article only mentions the superior collicus briefly. My reading is showing that there are additional pathways, at least one of them outside cortex, which goes from the optic nerve to superior collicus in both hemispheres, then to the midbrain to control eye motion.(Ramachandran & Blakeslee, 1998, Phantoms in the Brain)

I wonder where this table will end up. My readings are also taking me to 'attention' which can be part of seeing, but not always.(Gellatly & Zarate, 2005, Intro to Mind & Brain). Gellatly p. 102, list item 3 states that superior collicus effects head orienting especially for peripheral vision.

Where might we discuss this so that other editors can also contribute. I tend to stick with visual system because of my background, and I try to follow the example of Francis Crick, who chose to work on the visual system (we even spoke to each other, once ;-). --Ancheta Wis (talk) 10:35, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

August 2013

• This stable has produced 1 yokozuna and 3 sekiwake. It is one of the most successful Sumo Stables ever, for it's relative short history. Musashimaru is the first foreign born Yokozuna to be a sumo stable master.
• The reason for this page being up for deletion has more to do with the ignorance of RHaworth than anything else. If articles about particular sports are to be deleted, they should be deleted by people who know something about the sport, not by RHaworth and others who have little or no interest in the sport.
• Finally, RHaworth and people like him need to be reprimanded. If not, then a new policy about deletion should be drawn up. Eg: If part of a topic, which gets about 1,000 hits per day, is to be deleted, it should only be deleted by people who have knowledge of that topic. If sumo was getting about 1 hit per month, fine delete it and other topics that are in reference to it. But Sumo is getting about half a million hits a year. Therefore the only people who should police it, should be people who know something about it, like User:Pawnkingthree

Musashigawa issue

Hello, Leveni. All the information about the original incarnation of Musashigawa stable is already in the article under the heya's new name of Fujishima stable. The newest incarnation, begun recently by Musashimaru, does in my opinion, need an article. I started this article Musashigawa stable (2013) to distinguish it from the old incarnation (this is the agreed upon way to designate stables when they are reincarnated with the same name). Someone put a speedy deletion tag on it, and RHaworth quite quickly deleted it, without referring to my defense of the article. Since then, he must have put it in his Watchlist and that is why he jumped in so fast when you tried to start it again. You can see the article I started here User:FourTildes/sandbox_6. I had to go and ask RHaworth for the text for the article back as I lost it when he deleted it. He claimed it needed more sources though this is not actually a criteria for speedy deletion. I think he handled it wrongly, but I was willing to go back and try to get the article up when I had more time, but had yet to find time. I just discovered your crusade to get an article up. I understand your frustration, but it is not going to do the article any good by breaking protocol and getting on the wrong side of people with more wiki editing powers than you. Soon, I will try to put some more information in [[Musashigawa stable (2013) and get it up again. I will probably use the article you already have, add whatever info I already had, and then rename your article with the 2013 added. Are you okay with this? By the way, I have been here a long time. If you look back through your talk page here, I am Malnovami from way back in 2007 thanking you for contributions. I later changed my name to FourTildes, but I am one and the same.

Hey FourTildes. I thought it was really strange that a new Musashigawa stable page had not been put up. But, now I think it outrageous that your original Musashigawa 2013 was taken down. According to the Japanese version of the page, when Musashimaru became the owner, he became the 15th Mushashigawa, and Mienoumi was the 14th. This means (in my mind) the 2013 incarnation of the stable is a continuation of the original stable. As for the administrators, what they have done is wrong. Their logic is based on ignorance, not fact. For a topic like sumo, which collectively gets about 1 million hits a year, only people like you(Fourtildes) and Pawnkingthree should be making decisions about such subjects, in conjunction with the administrators. But what RHaworth has done, and the way he did it, is vandalism. He made a decision based on his own ignorance, and all he has left, to confide in, is his arrogance. We need administrators, including RHaworth, but if they are going to act like RHaworth did, they need new boundaries set up to stop them from vandalizing articles.

We have chosen to handle the stables differently from the way Japanese wiki does it. If you look at Fujishima stable (2010), Mienoumi etc. are already listed as the coaches there. The continuity of the name is important in Japan, but the fact remains that all of the wrestlers, the location, coaches etc. are now under the Fujishima name. The only thing Musashimaru took with him is the name. All the people associated with the stable besides him remain at Fujishima. You'll notice in many English wiki stable articles that many stables have been "revived" over the years, but again, in name only, and only the information about the current stable is written there. Again, this may be different from how Japanese wiki handles it, but there are a number of issues that are handled differently between English and Japanese sumo articles. As there are less of us working on the articles here (especially recently) I think the info we have compiled here is much less convoluted than the Japanese end, to be honest. User:Pawnkingthree and User talk:Zeyes are more knowledgeable than me about stable histories and the handling of them, if you want to inquire further.

By the way, I didn't like the way RHaworth handled the deletion at all, and made sure I was heard. There have been other criticisms of his protocol all over his page, and I agree with much of your assessment. However, we can't fight fire with fire or we lose the high ground if you know what I mean. FourTildes (talk) 06:10, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Hey Leveni. As FourTildes says, I wouldn't go down the road of reporting RHaworth - anyone has the right to put an article up for deletion and it looks like his nomination is being shot down in flames, so the processes seems to be working fine. As for the article, I think we should treat the original stable and Musashimaru's incarnation as separate entities. If you look back through the talk page discussions at WP:SUMO you'll see User:Zeyes makes some very good points about how historically many stables with the same name have very little connection to each other. Nishonoseki stable

Hi, I'm not sure what was confusing about the old name, as there was a hatnote directing readers to the article on the new heya. Also, where does the 1911 date come from? Our article begins with its reestablishment as a heya by Tamanishiki in 1935. P-K3 (talk) 16:23, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

The end date shows that there was a discontinuance of the stable. I was also bringing the article in line with the Japanese language version of article. But I will go back and see whether the 1935 date was a re-continuation or a brand new version of the stable.Leveni (talk) 00:55, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

Also, when I first started entering sumo stables on Wikipedia back 2007, I didn't put much thought into lay out. The main other people at the time who were doing the same thing were Pawnkingthree and maybe FourTildes. But I've been thinking about putting a table of contents on the left hand side for quick reference. I've sent them both a message about the idea. As you too seem to be interested in Sumo, what do you think? And what should be added to such a table of contents for Sumo Stable pages.Leveni (talk) 01:55, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

I've replied on my talk page about the table of contents idea. Regarding Nishonoseki stable, I think we need to come up with a standard format for titling the the heya pages. I might start a discussion at WP:SUMO about it and see who responds. I'm not that fond of using dates as disambiguators as they can be inexact, but I haven't been able to come up with anything better. There's an argument that as the original Nishonoseki stable has a longer history, was started by a yokozuna, and had one of the greatest rikishi ever, Taiho, as a member, that it is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and doesn't need any disambiguators at all. I don't know if you are aware of this requested move from a few years ago but the decision then was to leave it at Nishonoseki stable. Anyway, let me know what you find out about the 1935 date. If the Japanese version didn't have the dates in the title I would have just left it. Oh well. I don't mind if it is reverted though. But I wonder if the 1911 reference is just one word or sentence, or do they talk about the actual foundation of the stable. I'm sure the Sumo Kyokai has everything written down somewhere though. @Le Beaglelution: Hi Le Beaglelution, Thanks for letting me know. I have actually done links to Findagrave before with no trouble what so ever. You are more than welcome to undo those links also. I'll give you the links if you are interested. But, since you have made the comment that the link is not constructive, I can only ask, in what way is it not constructive? The link provides a small piece of detail into the life of a minor Australian actor, it shows his face and a brief history of his acting career. And this is the reason why his and other peoples names were included in the list of deceased actors. I was going to do all the other actors in the list, as I spend most of my internet time doing genealogy. I agree that these minor actors do not fulfil the requirements to have a Wikipedia article about them, but a link to Findagrave or IMDB is, after thinking about it, constructive. So, how about linking them to their IMDb pages, which is specifically for actors. I do admit that I am biased in favour of Findagrave, but after thinking about it, IMDb would be more appropriate.
