Re: Boxing style/stance

Greetings. Changing the infobox field from "style" to "stance" would likely discourage editors from including peek-a-boo, switch hitter, etc., but from what I can see it happens quite rarely. If the field were changed, it would instantly render the infoboxes of tens of thousands of articles useless. It's best to just revert on sight, whilst pointing any persistent editors towards the upcoming new MOS, which covers the use of infobox fields in detail. As for specific descriptions of a boxer's actual technique, that belongs in the article prose and not the infobox. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 01:39, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Hyōgo 11-ku

...and presumably many of the other articles on electoral districts. 1. Thanks a lot for improving them. I wish I had more time, many of them are outdated, a lot more need to be created. But then there are so many other things to be done.... 2. Could you find a way to keep the endorsers in even if they don't fit into the more fanciful results template? A plain independent is something different from, for example, an I-DPJ,PNP candidate in the late 2000s who is obviously an anti-LDP candidate backed by the main opposition. More recently there is Ibaraki 7 where an I-Kōmeitō candidate beat a Liberal Democrat twice in a row – to my knowledge the only single-member district in the country where LDP and Kōmeitō were competitors in those elections. And I could go on... Thanks for your message Asakura Akira. I've seen your name on basically every politics article and have been amazed at your volume of work, so it is nice to receive a message from you. I know what you mean about so much to do, so little time. Hopefully we can keep chipping away at it.

As for your main point, I agree that the endorsements are sometimes very important. As far as I've seen, in elections for mayors and governors the candidates seem to all be independent but receive endorsements and/or recommendations from parties (I don't know if it is a rule though). I don't know how to work it into the template, but perhaps it can be incorporated into a few sentences summarizing the election campaign? Update: I have added some text to Hyogo 11th district. What do you think? The text could do with some better references regarding the overall results, but they will be easy to find. I've had one thought though, with the text added in this format, perhaps it would be better if the results were in reverse order? That way, a reader will see "Matsumoto beat Zushi in 2012", followed by "Matsumoto beat Zushi again in 2014". With text added it seems a bit strange to have the most recent described first. Even if I were to edit Wikipedia every day which I manage to do at times, but then often not for weeks, I'd still get a lot more out of Wikipedia than I put into it; it has become as indispensable to me as my morning coffee... And the niche field I concentrate my edits on has mostly to do with where I feel I'm most useful. Much to do and few editors around means that those few seem to be everywhere. But more readers and editors involved is always better.

The text for each individual election serves the purpose perfectly, and ideally (and Wikipedia is here to stay, it will get there one day), it could cover many other details of the campaign. And also other, non-party endorsements which are usually not included in the result tables in the media, for example, support from Shinseiren ("Shinto Association of Spiritual Leadership") – there are, or at least: were fairly moderate Liberal Democrats around, but a candidate backed by one of the major staunchly conservative groups is not very likely to qualify...

Chronological order: I'm not sure, there are disadvantages either way. I fully agree that with a descriptive text, chronological order seems more natural. But if the order is reversed and all post-reform elections are in, the first thing to see would be an election result from 20 years ago, and further back as time progresses and the list grows.

On "independent" mayors & governors: On the prefectural level, as far as I know from going through recent results, Gunma governor Masaaki Ōsawa's run as Liberal Democrat in 2007 was the most recent instance of a successful candidacy not formally as an independent [discounting Osaka, Aichi and other places with at least initially local/non-national party nominations]. Looking beyond the winners, there are Communists who run as "independent" with JCP support/recommendation, but also some who are formally nominated by the party. But I think, a few decades back when security policy and US relations were still the main trenchline between "conservative" and "progressive" parties [even if the voters were often already much more concerned with "kitchen table issues"], partisan races for governor with the two most important candidates explicitly nominated by the two major parties and endorsed by their allies were a lot more common. On the municipal level, I think, it is similarly rare these days – I remember that some MIC statistics I included somewhere here or on de.wp counted less than 10 mayors among the 1,900+ total as elected formally partisan.

List of Indian business school rankings

Hi Athomeinkobe! Please note that including the actual rankings of the schools is a copyright violation. The reason for this is because the rankings are based on some subjective criteria or formula, thus making it a creatively-derived list. This would not be the case for something like a list of schools ranked by attendance, which is just a raw factual number. We have an essay which explains this in more detail at WP:CIL. Thanks for your message Crow. This is an interesting conundrum you've raised. I based the format on Indian engineering college rankings, 2015, which itself came about following an AFD in which a copyright issue was never raised. You can see in the discussion throughout the AFD that many such lists exist and not just relating to Indian schools. • Yes there are many of these kinds of lists. Some are obviously ok, some not, so we have to evaluate them as we find them. Unfortunately here, as far as fair use goes, the listings could be included in articles about individual schools, saying School-X ranked #5 on this list, #6 on another, etc. For it to be fair use in this list form, the article would have to discuss or analyze the criteria used, which seems to be proprietary at best, or even just one writer's opinion. I know that doesn't leave much substance for an article, once the whole purpose for it is taken out, but copyright is one of those areas that we have little leeway in enforcing. Removal of Category:Indian Air Force officers

Why are you removing the category Category:Indian Air Force officers from the articles? I have added the categories after verification, you may yourself visit the links or references provided in the articles or the official website of the Indian Air Force. P.S. I'll also note that I also performed checks to make sure they were not non-diffusing categories (I.e. It is ok for them to appear in both). I don't agree with you point of view, for example the Indian Air Force Chiefs have the categories Indian Air Force "Air Marshals" and that for Chief of Indian Air Force. I feel the category Indian Air Force Officer is valid as it helps to filter all the articles written about Indian Air Force Officers, after all the intent here to make the information easily available. If the intent of the edit is not vandalism and the category is genuine one, I think it should be accepted. I'm however happy to go with the team decision that is arrived at the article talkpage -- if you wish to take the discussion there. Vinod 05:03, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

I appreciate your concern and I know you are acting in good faith. But on the other hand, if there are too many categories then it becomes difficult to see which are the most relevant. See Wikipedia:Overcategorization for the guideline on adding too many categories.

In this case, there are three relevant categories: Category:Indian Air Force officers → Category:Indian Air Force air marshals → Category:Chiefs of Air Staff (India) and I'd guess there are less than 100 biographies in these categories. Some such as the first chief listed, Vinod Bhatia, appear in all three, while some, such as the next on the list Norman Anil Kumar Browne appears in the Chief category only. So there is inconsistency which needs to be dealt with.

Again, each of these are about the company, not about the person. The company has an article at 9janimi Channel. There is nothing to show that this person is independently notable of the company, so it is not acceptable as an article. You need to find sources which discuss the person and who he is. There is a small amount of biographical information (birthplace, residence, education) but it is all unsourced. There is a link to a personal website but I couldn't open it. The Triple Crown Papal Tiara is the true treasure that represents the true power and authority of the Pope"; from Sergio Becerra, The Papal Tiara: The Authority and Power of The Pope, 2013[2]. I would suggest this is too important an "other use" not to form an "other uses" header tag or a mention in intro. I would doubt that those who coined the horse racing term were not aware of its significance. Lobsterthermidor, I'm not doubting that the papal tiara is also known as the triple crown, but the question is how well-known is it by that name. If you look at the article, "triple crown" is last in the list of other names and is not used again anywhere in the article. By comparison, "triregnum" and "triple tiara" are used several times in the article. Taking a look at your sources, Britannica says it is "a triple crown", i.e. it is using it as an adjective not a noun. Granted the book does use the term 9 times, but the title of the book is The Papal Tiara. I suggest starting a discussion at the talk page and see if we can get some further opinions. People of India believe in Indian accreditation agencies than foreign accreditation agencies. Therefore baseless and ambiguous sentences and references should be removed to maintain Wikipedia standard.

Drafts aren't handled at WP:PNT

I again removed Draft:L'Immortel from WP:PNT. Drafts aren't handled there, and this is consistent with existing practice. It's for articles that created in article space for a two-week grace period before being deleted. In contrast, if an article remains in Draft space without being made ready for article space, then it simply won't be approved to move into article space. THe fact they are mostly self references makes it an immediate WP:BLP violation in my mind but obviously you think differently, so quite right to withdraw the speedy. I listed it again for speedy cos I thought I had just missed I didn't understand why it didn't have the speedy tag on it, so that's just procedural and I will withdraw that if an admin don't first. What shall we do with it, hulye (Hungarian for Stupid person, not offensive but more like idiot or something but meant nicely, like Homer Simpson is an idiot but not a bad one, hard to translate). SimonTrew you could try deleting via PROD, but the way I see it there is a chance someone will object which means it will have to go to AFD anyway. Also taking it to AFD improves the chances of the article actually being improved (if the subject is actually notable), so in this case I think that is the better way to go. Idh0854, what do you mean "the wrong way around"? There were discussions at Talk:Korea Standard Time and Talk:Pyongyang Time to merge pages (not move) relating to time in the two Koreas. One user Michael in the Pyongyang discussion suggested the "Time in..." pages should be the destination of the merge, and nobody disagreed. I then followed the instructions at Wikipedia:Merging#How to merge. Could you please explain the relevance of WP:MOR when a merger was performed, not a move? What you are proposing doesn't make sense Idh0854, as both end up at Korea Standard Time. But consensus at the talk page was for them to be merged into Time in South Korea. I am going to revert it back to how it was before you made the moves. I suggest you then start a new discussion at the article's talk page before making any further moves. Thank you for explaining your concerns Idh0854. But since this is the English Wikipedia, I think we should discuss in English so that others can understand and participate. If I may summarise your points, you are saying that my method of moving the page was incorrect and that the revision history of Korea Standard Time has been lost, which is a violation of Wikipedia's copyright rules.

To reply, I did not simply move Korea Standard Time to Time in South Korea. I performed a merge of the two articles, following the instructions provided at Wikipedia:Merging#How to merge. Specifically, I merged the contents of this version of "Korea Standard Time" with this version of "Time in South Korea". The current version at Time in South Korea contains the "history" section from the first article and the "IANA time zone database" section from the second article.

It is true that when you click "history" at Time in South Korea you cannot see the revision history of Korea Standard Time. But this is always the case when the contents of two articles are merged into one. To help solve this problem, the yellow box is placed at the top of the talk page at Talk:Time in South Korea. It provides a link to the revision history of Korea Standard Time. This is standard practice as described at the "How to merge" link above and I believe I performed it correctly.

By performing your move you are simply hiding the edit history of Time in South Korea instead. Also, you did not correct the links on the talk pages. I think we must accept that because two articles have been merged, the history of one will be hard to find. But the history is not lost. It is visible by following the link on the talk page. If you are concerned because Korea Standard Time has a longer edit history (more than 100 edits), I can start a discussion regarding whether it is appropriate to move the articles so that the longer history is more easily visible. Just thanks for answering. I did place the question very long time ago and many insertions including 3 charts and 3 tables etc. I don't want to change anything more on the article but anyway there should be a clearing about the relation of nuclear 0 deaths to tsunami and quake 19 000 deaths including japanese dying from gas explosion because not using atomic power and also inside article should be the human reasons for the desaster clearly to be sawn in comparision with old german konvoi reactors like done in spectrum science article. Konvoi layout was for highest water in 10 000 years and strongest quake in 100 000 years. Instead 2 generators 4 and 2-4 different fully bunkered including fuel tanks and in case of H2 and overpressure 99.9% filtered oulet. The tsunami was about 15 m high going over the tsunami protection wall breaking a 10m high door that way disturbing the generators so that no decay heat cooling was possible for some time. H2 explosions happend also in the empty neighbor block etc.

Not to be disscused only to be understood is that own THOR HTR pebble bed design doesnt have any `nuclear risk left also with quakes >12 (log) and tsunami >100m with trucks thrown on the reactor and leaving near whole japan destroyed and japanese dead.

That is possible not only because of strong quake and water proof outer containment out of steel, concrete and double steel but because of pebble material again out of new RBN Reactor boron nitride made only out of isotopes B-11 and N-15 that way near diamond hard up to 2800°C, melting 2973°C, unburnable, unsoluble in water, high heat movement, cool shock resistant.

Also airplane crash, tank shooting and bunker blaster break though can`t cause a nuclear catastrophe because most is staying baked inside the pebbles also some are broken and no spreaders around with not radioactive helium and sand additional unburnable and unsoluble if rain added going out outside because loosing to much neutrons and gamma ray protection over enough distance. Also terrorist attack and human error are undangerous because of passive switch-of systems and passive cooling without power.

Japan was installing passive H2 converters from Areva but better is 99.9 filtering system and for core catcher HfC, ZrB2... Melting point of Areva EPR catcher out of ZrO2 and spread area out of cast iron is under melting point of UO2 so it can melt also neutron absorbtion under core is missed with ZrO2, reflecting core bottom likely with resonance gamma and much "U235m".

Thanks for your message Dschslava. To clarify, an IP added the text as a sub-section of the "classifications" section. It is clearly unrelated to classification, so I moved it into its own section. The material is interesting and provides some bulk to an otherwise surprisingly short article, so I did not delete it straight away. On the other hand, perhaps the article is intentionally short and intended to serve mainly as a pathway to the many "see also" articles. If the text is to be kept it needs a copyedit for format as well as a review of what exactly is supported by the sources given. I am unable to do that right now though. Thanks for the explanation Davey2010. Despite this, I still have serious concerns for the user's English ability and their competence as an editor. Articles about TV channels that they've created have been copy/paste jobs from other articles, and simply adding the word "India" where appropriate. Edits to other articles have mainly consisted of adding the word "India" (and sometimes removing other countries). When they try to write prose it is barely coherent. Then, their recent spate of editing has basically been vandalism, see [3], [4] and [5] for prime examples of adding "India" to the caption of photos clearly not taken in India.

I think they are a good-faith editor who is proud of their country. To date I have not sought any "action" against them because I think monitoring and reverting is easier than trying to find IP socks if they are blocked. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 01:26, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

As to your question, it is helpful but not required if you move a nomination that includes a date request to the special occasion holding area after approving a nomination following a review. Fi you forget or do not feel comfortable performing the task then it is no big deal. Hi there, I see you reverted my edit with reason "with respect, you shouldn't revert talk page comments, even though I disagree with them too". I can say it wasn't because I would disagree with that 85.76-something/IPv6-editor. It is because that user behind all those changing IP-addresses is User 'WPK', who according to user page on fi-wiki says "made first edit on 17 June 2008 at 19.24 and last edit on 31 December 2010 at 1.59.". But since user ever registered to fi-wiki, it's been constant block evasion when account 'WPK' has been blocked. I can say that's why I say it's WP:LTA and user has been editing the same articles all the years and using same "arguments" and that's why I wrote "rv, this can't be anything else than trolling anymore". Thanks for your message Dank. Osaka is very close actually, less than half an hour by the rapid commuter train. It's a shame he couldn't drop over and visit Kobe for a day. It is quite different to Osaka despite being so close.

As for TFA, I think it would be difficult to incorporate any sort of firm rule stating "the date must be referred to in this manner", because the prose used in the blurbs varies quite widely depending on the topic. I also appreciate the opposition to mentioning the word "today", as the time difference will surely confuse some people. So I guess the only practical solution is to have more people reading the blurbs and making suggested changes in advance of the item's appearance. Now that I know where the requests are made, I'll check it out once in a while.

I see that the full list for this month's articles is at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/September 2016. That page doesn't have a talk page though, so is Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article the best place to point out any suggested changes? AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 00:34, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

JarrahTree, thanks for your message. The 1942 article caught my attention because it was listed in the new articles at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Western Australia. As to why it was worth editing, the lack of punctuation and the one-sentence paragraphs were two reasons to do so. I'm not sure which "point" I was supposed to have missed, but I see you have self-reverted, so it is back to the last version I edited. Thanks for your reply, I am of the general practice of not expecting edits until things have developed further. But you can never tell. The Japanese scare article is intriguing as I have spent hours poring over the files at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra and National Archives in Perth at a large amount of primary sources as to what the authorities got up to in response to the Broome bombings - a complicated and much longer article will eventually evolve - it all started with the fremantle submarine base article which is still a mere pimple on a much larger possible article. Queenstown hotel - I used to live there and most annoyed cannot find an easy item from commons for usage in the info box. Hi, the list is incomplete, but i can finish it. It is not a random list, the people are taken from dewiki and then only the people who have an article in enwiki. When I say it is random, I mean that there is no obvious reason why those 27 people are listed from the thousands of people listed at Category:People from Tokyo and the subcategories. For example, the three sportspeople listed are known for skating, aikido and boxing, but nobody from Japan's three main sports of baseball, sumo and soccer. There are 373 actors listed at Category:Actors from Tokyo, so why are Olivia de Havilland (left Tokyo when she was 2 years old), Samaire Armstrong (left when she was 5 years old), and a porn actress the only ones listed? Perhaps it is just coincidence, but it seems that many of the people listed left Tokyo before they were old enough to remember the place; Nikka Costa and Richard von Coudenhove-Kalergi fall into that group too.

You are right. Yes I used the list de:Liste der Persönlichkeiten der Präfektur Tokio. But my work adding sons and daughters to smaller towns in Germany, Austria etc. can not be compared to big towns like Tokyo. In my work I use the people from dewiki, put them into Google translator, make corrections, and put them to enwiki, most of them become red. Concerning the Udon

Thank you for you edit. Actually to be consistent with other articles of this type (like Soba, Spaghetti, etc.), I thought it is better to talk only about the ingredients of the Udon itself. Adding the ingredients of the Udon Soup can be confusing, as the article is about Udon. Different type of Udon dishes are described in the article, one of them is the Udon soup. But there is other dishes with Udon but without Udon Soup, like Yaki Udon. Maybe we can create another page for Udon Soup?

I can explain you why... first editing the inaccurate information and second deleting information which is misleading and also inaccurate. There is more in the article which is pointing out facts which are altered to incorrect statements. But as long as the changes are not being considered and continually being reverted there is no really point in making any other changes. Sorry K.Seek, that is not really an explanation. You did not "edit" or "correct" anything, you just wiped the whole section clear. As long as you try to blank the slate, it will be put back in exactly the same condition. There is nothing for anyone to consider because you are removing everything. If you are willing to explain exactly what parts you think are inaccurate and misleading, then they can be fixed. Doing so at Talk:Fiona Graham would be better than here. But as a piece of advice, you need to provide more information than just a claim of "it is misleading". Plus you'll need some sources to back up your statements. This is mindblowing-I'd never heard "downloading" for reading an article. I'm not a tech guy, are we actually downloading it somehow? Yeah, so every time someone accesses an article, they need to download the article's data via their server, whether it be on a mobile phone or computer modem. Adding stuff like an infobox increases the amount of data that needs to be received. For people who have a limit on how much they can download in a month, this increases their burden with no benefit to them. Sure it is a small amount, but it all adds up. I am not a tech expert either, but I think all of the empty fields in the infobox would also add to the amount downloaded, even though nothing is displayed. JustAGuyOnWikipedia, when I looked at the article and your talk page I saw the following timeline (1) the article had been nominated for deletion about five hours earlier (2) it had been deleted about two hours after that (3) you restarted the article with one basic sentence about 30 minutes before I looked at it (4) you had not touched it again after starting it. In that situation, it is difficult for me to say whether you intend to add any more information. The fact that it had already been deleted once was not a good sign.

By the way, I am not the one who deleted the article, I just placed the request and gave you the heads up by placing a notice on your talk page. When an admin actually deletes is luck of the draw - sometimes a nominated article can sit for a day without an admin touching it. In this case it was deleted 10 minutes later.

My advice is to work in the draft space, i.e. Draft:1610-AM WPFP 929. The general policy is an article can sit there untouched for up to 6 months without getting deleted. The other option is your sandbox User:JustAGuyOnWikipedia/sandbox or anywhere else in your user space, e.g. User:JustAGuyOnWikipedia/1610-AM WPFP 929. Work in progress there is also safe from deletion.

Having main space articles repeatedly deleted puts the title at risk of being "salted", see here. So working in the draft or user space is highly recommended. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 01:10, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
