Removed two completely unreliable references

edit

1. <ref name="Argentina Independent">{{cite news|title=Frigate Libertad: Vulture Funds and Cabin Fever in West Africa|url=http://www.argentinaindependent.com/tag/frigate-libertad/|accessdate=18 July 2014|publisher=The Argentina Independent|date=14 November 2012}}</ref>

"The Argentina Independent" is a nationalistic Argentine web magazine which is as reliable a source to hedge funds and Argentine debt as "Der Stürmer" was a relible source to Jews.

2. <ref>{{cite news| url=http://www.thefrontiertelegraph.com/?p=103 | work=Frontier Telegraph | title=Vultures of Profit: Judgments Totaling $996M from 11 Countries, including Cameroun Republic| date=24 June 2008|accessdate=10 June 2012}}</ref>

"Frontier Telegraph" is in Chinese, and as such unfit as source in an English article; a quote: "私が働いている外科病棟には、末期がんの患者さんが沢山入院しています"

Cherry picked investments profiled

edit

They have invested in many more companies then those profiled in this entry but it seems half are boasting and the other half are meant to be disparaging. If we allow this it opens up the flood gates of becoming a repository of opinions. Profiling individual investments shouldn't be here but need to neutral/factual in tone.--JAMillerKC (talk) 15:54, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Activist fund

edit

I have inserted some text in relation to Elliott's role as an activist fund. I think it's relevant and notable, as the firm is the world's largest activist fund. Fraulein451 (talk) 22:44, 30 January 2018 (UTC) I've also trimmed the sovereign debt section since it seems excessive weight for such a small arm of its overall investments.Fraulein451 (talk) 01:31, 9 February 2018 (UTC) Daveburstein (talk) 06:19, 10 September 2019 (UTC) Removed claims of investment gains that were not backed up by any public accounting. I believe this is appropriate because many of the holdings of Elliott are not publicly traded, hence not necessarily accurately valued. Several references are no longer available. Removed subjective comment made shortly before he left NY Times after plagiarism claims. The writer is now a pr guy for activist funds like Elliott's and not a neutral source.Removed duplicate reference on AT&T comment.Reply

How does the order of invested-in companies work?

edit

I am wanting to add a section on Elliott's investment in EBay but I'm not sure how one decides where in that list to stick an investment. Any guidance on that? Novellasyes (talk) 18:39, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Note: The list could be alphabetical, or it could be chronological. Right now it doesn't seem to be either of those, though, which is why I was asking. Novellasyes (talk) 21:10, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
The list in and of itself is very weird and low value for an encyclopedia. It almost reads like someone's market research dumped onto the page in a haphazard manner. MKV (talk) 03:41, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Contacting Elliot Investing

edit

Is there any way to contact an actual person that works for Elliot Investments? The web site has no phone number or contact info other than an area to send a message to investor relations or media and no one seems to respond to either. 172.59.194.184 (talk) 20:06, 12 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
