We're back to our regular daily walk

Well, perhaps you couldn't call our walk "regular" just yet.  It's pretty full of adventure and surprises.

In some places, we're still wading snow.  Thank goodness for our Muck boots.

In spots, the snow melted and then re-froze on our path, so we had to walk beside the path unless we wanted to ice-skate, which we were neither one inclined to do.

We've seen deer tracks and raccoon tracks in the snow, but this one really puzzled us; it went on for yards and disappeared down a ravine.  From a distance it looked like a tractor tire track... a tractor with one tire.  We're still puzzling over this one.

It's hard to tell, but there are rivulets of water running in this shot.  Thawing is a wonderful thing.  I could learn to like mud.

To those who offered suggestions on my problem with the disappearing library books on my Nook:  I know the books disappear after two weeks.  That isn't the problem.  I check out the book, which puts it on my computer.  I immediately connect the Nook and drag the book to it.
Sometimes I can find it and read it after I do this; other times it's nowhere to be found.  However, if I try to drag it to the Nook again, I'm told the book is already on there.
What puzzles me is that it's only an occasional thing, because I go through the process the same way, every time.

Thaw

Two days ago, Cliff took the tractor out and bladed part of our walking path.  This was taken yesterday; it really made a difference in ease of walking.

Here's what it looks like today.

With the weather guessers predicting temperatures above fifty, we considered the possibility of a motorcycle ride.  Cliff uncovered the Gold Wing early on, started it up, and let it run awhile.

By one o'clock, we both knew it was an impossible dream.  Oh, the temperatures were fine, but we couldn't safely get out of the driveway and onto the highway.

The driveway is slush; it might as well be snot.  I suppose Cliff could manage to get through this mess...

But down there's the problem, where the gravel meets the highway.

Yes, that.  To the left is the top of a hill over which cars can come at a pretty brisk speed; we wouldn't want the motorcycle to go down in this spot.  There isn't much stopping time once a car tops that hill.  So much for a ride.

So we just stayed home, enjoyed the sunshine, and chewed our cuds.

Finally! We made it to Wal mart for groceries!

I know, I shouldn't get so excited about a trip to the grocery store. But we were out of so many things, I was getting desperate.

Oh, there was plenty here in the house to keep us from starving for at least two weeks, I'm sure. The son-in-law brought milk last night, in case the granddaughters needed cereal for breakfast. But I hate to be without fresh fruits and veggies. Both girls have already had grapes and a banana, just since we got home. See those bananas? Eight pounds of them, and I'll guarantee you they'll be gone within five days. No, it won't be only the girls eating them! Cliff and I eat lots of fruit.

School is out yet again. The girls slept in at home, since their big brother was there to watch them. We couldn't take them shopping because we had to take the pickup (four-wheel drive), so obviously there wasn't room for them. We unloaded groceries and then Cliff went to pick them up.

The ice is falling off trees and power lines; hopefully our yard will be thawed before this weekend's projected snow storm arrives.

I read a thread on an equine message board this morning where someone's horse had fallen on ice and broken its leg. That's scary stuff, and I could hardly wait to get out and check on our horses, just to make sure they're OK, after reading that. They've done plenty of slipping and sliding, even though they're staying in a relatively small area.
