2018-12-18 01:44:36 UTC

I think part of the issue is how the term “normie” is defined

2018-12-18 01:44:39 UTC

Doing the same thing with terms like normie and npc is just as bad

2018-12-18 01:44:41 UTC

I think IE branding as aggressively normal is a good move. But wider dissident movement needs to keep the edge

2018-12-18 01:44:44 UTC

Je suis normie

2018-12-18 01:44:47 UTC

I’m not sure we’re all using the same definition

2018-12-18 01:44:50 UTC

What is a normie

2018-12-18 01:44:53 UTC

I play both roles depending on audience

2018-12-18 01:45:00 UTC

TRS lingo is just a bad idea in general

2018-12-18 01:45:05 UTC

its dumb

2018-12-18 01:45:13 UTC

just talk like a normal person

2018-12-18 01:45:22 UTC

Wasn’t there a recent article about balancing inside culture of a political group with the ability to appeal to the mainstream??

2018-12-18 01:45:30 UTC

This reminds me of that comic where every person in the panel is thinking “wow I bet these people aren’t even aware of anything”

2018-12-18 01:45:42 UTC

Yeah, political identity paradox

2018-12-18 01:45:56 UTC

If you become too subcultural you lose

2018-12-18 01:46:03 UTC

^

2018-12-18 01:46:10 UTC

That’s the civil way to say it yeah

2018-12-18 01:46:10 UTC

we're becoming too subcultural

2018-12-18 01:46:17 UTC

I suppose I could have taken that route

2018-12-18 01:46:21 UTC

My bad fellas

2018-12-18 01:46:23 UTC

I always thought normie was a term for people with mainstream political opinion, culture, and likes/dislikes. A girl is a normie if she likes starbucks for example. With this definition it's clear we're not "normies" in the sense that we dont abide to mainstream ideology, but we ARE normal people in the sense that we live normal lifestyles

2018-12-18 01:46:23 UTC

But you become too mainstream then who cares

2018-12-18 01:46:27 UTC

Average people don't want to join something like IE until it's socially acceptable to do so. You're all different from the norm because whether you like it or not, were not socially acceptable by the status quo. THATS ALL IM SAYING PEOPLE.

2018-12-18 01:46:35 UTC

I'm gonna get off now

2018-12-18 01:46:38 UTC

Like it or not, a very large percentage of people are unwilling and/or incapable of differing from the majority, comfortable opinion. Those people are "normies."

2018-12-18 01:46:47 UTC

Yeah we gotta remember what we are. We’re not some leet hacker meme group, we’re literally just white people trying to peacefully exist as white people lmao

2018-12-18 01:46:57 UTC

That's just the reality of humanity.

2018-12-18 01:47:01 UTC

the ohioan is right

2018-12-18 01:47:31 UTC

*ranch dressing intensifies*

2018-12-18 01:47:56 UTC

Yeah, maybe they outwardly express popular opinion, but again, we don’t know what’s going on through people’s heads

2018-12-18 01:48:08 UTC

I was a complete shit lib with nationalist thoughts for years

2018-12-18 01:48:36 UTC

I'm a normie at work.

2018-12-18 01:48:41 UTC

IE should brand as normies but stay plugged into broader dissident meme culture that keeps the normie distinction. Like how socialists accomplished all the goals of communism while using communism as proof they were normal.

2018-12-18 01:49:08 UTC

I believe the correct denomyn of Ohioans is "Buckeyes"

2018-12-18 01:49:25 UTC

Muh corn and buckeyes

2018-12-18 01:49:29 UTC

Since identity online is non unitary you can literally have it both ways if you have the headspace for it.

2018-12-18 01:49:31 UTC

Pepsi is correct insofar as the "average" person might not feel comfortable joining a taboo group. The danger here -- and I'm not accusing him of this -- is creating an in-group (people with our views) vs. out-group (people without our views) distinction, and then saying "there's no use appealing to normies." People use that as an excuse to be careless and remain fringe.

2018-12-18 01:49:44 UTC

2018-12-18 01:49:47 UTC

I'm a normie in the streets, and a normie at home too

2018-12-18 01:50:08 UTC

A similar issue is defining "the movement" as us and every other taboo right-wing group in society.

2018-12-18 01:50:23 UTC

"The movement is IE, TWP, and Patrick Little!" is still how some people think.
