It's been a very busy (and sometimes stressful) week in my world, with something important happening every single day. Here's a little recap of the highlights.
Monday afternoon, I got a message from a dear friend who lives in California. She and her husband were having a little vacation at a ski resort about 30 minutes from our home. She asked if we wanted to meet up, so we drove to the beautiful resort where she was staying (Snow Bird) and we had a nice visit, and enjoyed catching up. This friend and I worked together for a few years clear back in the 1980s - so we have known each other a while! Unfortunately, I forgot to get a picture of my friend and her husband, but I did get a picture of the condo at the resort where we visited them.
Tuesday we went to a Salt Lake Bees baseball game with our daughter's family. My last post was all about that. Everyone had a great time and we hope to make "Family Night at the Ballpark" a family tradition!
Wednesday, we left about mid-morning and drove to St. George. It was hot. This picture of our car dashboard says it was 110, but actually it was more like 115 several days that we were there.
We were very happy to reach and get settled into the large, comfortable, air conditioned condo where we were staying.
Thursday, we had to sign lots of paperwork at a title company to make this home in Southern Utah officially ours.
We then met with our property manager to begin the process of finding someone to live here until I retire and we move into this place ourselves. It's a great house with "good bones." I admit that it needs some sprucing up and we are starting with new flooring in the main areas. Before we move in, I want it completely painted inside and all carpeting in the bedrooms will be replaced, and the sunroom (where the hot tub is) will be tiled.
Right now, we are getting new Pergo laminate flooring in the living room, dining/family room, hallway, laundry room and kitchen. We went to a recommended flooring company and narrowed our choice down to these these three samples.
We then decided to go with this color which is the sample on the extreme right in the first picture. This picture does not do the color justice.
This is picture that the flooring company had of what the floor would look like. This is NOT our home, but it gives some idea of the color. The cabinets in our home are light in color, so I think this flooring will look great!
Saturday morning we got up early and drove to Cedar City where our grandson is going to school to become an auto mechanic. We took him out to breakfast.
Our grandson is a nice young man and it was fun to visit with him while eating a yummy breakfast. He had to go off to work, so we hope we can spend more time with him next time we see him!
Saturday evening, as we were watching the news about the tragic events that unfolded at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania, the power went out. The condo complex where we are staying was completely in the dark except for some emergency lighting. We didn't have power for over two hours. It finally came back on after 10 p.m. and we were able to watch the news and get caught up on the horrible assassination attempt. It's all so very sad. American politics has reached a new low. I hope that BOTH candidates will dial back their rhetoric.
Sunday morning, we had some time before church, so I was able to finish reading this very interesting, thought-provoking and well documented book, Mind Wars by Connor Boyack. The book talks a lot about propaganda and political rhetoric which is particularly relevant after what happened Saturday night.
Sunday afternoon, we went to services at this church near the house we just bought. It felt so good to be back in church after a busy and hectic week.
Sunday after dinner, I watched President Biden's speech about the assassination attempt on President Trump. I am praying for our country tonight. We must resolve our differences by voting - not by shooting those who don't agree with us.
To end this post - here are few thoughts about the tragic assassination attempt that happened last night in Pennsylvania. I have said before on this blog that I was not very happy about our choices in this presidential election. That is still true, but I will definitely vote because I love my country and care deeply about what happens here. Negative political rhetoric, on both sides, has gotten out of hand. I hope that this horrible event will cause everyone to realize that both candidates, and their supporters, believe that they have the answers to what is best for our country. Who is right and who is wrong comes down to a matter of perspective. I believe that God was protecting Donald Trump Saturday night. The bullet came too close to his head for me to believe otherwise. This is not an announcement that I am (or am not) voting for him, but I do think that God's protection was upon Trump Saturday night. That being said, with all that has transpired this week, I also think that Trump will win the election. I'm not even sure how I feel about that, but that is my prediction. I pray that the faith, prayers and benevolent actions of believing people - both Democrats and Republicans - will bring peace and unity to our country.
Weekend Gratitude:
- Traveling safely.
- Getting some renovations/repairs lined up for the home we bought.
- Meeting up for breakfast with our grandson.
- Attending church at the new congregation we will go to when we move into the house we bought.
Until next time,
