A bright clear morning at Fly Flatts with only 10% cloud and blue sky with sunshine throughout on an icy cold NW>4 at 1 degree. A large bank of fog kept its distance beyond the western ridge whilst the sky started to cloud over by 1000 hrs.
A very low expectancy visit to Fly Flatts but with the clear blue skies I thought I may get a skein of early trans Pennine Pink Footed geese or Whoopers over but this never developed.
Ridiculously quiet up there with nothing on the water or on site with just 2 Raven and a Buzzard in the air along with 2 LBB gulls >NE.
A check of all the fields along Cold Edge Road on the way home failed to produce anything in the way of winter Thrushes or Golden Plover whilst Cold Edge Dams and Mixenden reservoir just held a few small gulls.
Late starts on mornings now with no daylight before 0815 hrs but only a week to the winter solstice
(shortest day) putting us back on the right direction.
Fog and light rain for tomorrow on a moderate westerly getting to near gale force p.m.
