Sociology Transformed seeks to map these changes on a country by country basis and to contribute to the discussion of the future of the subject. The series is concerned not only with the traditional centres of the discipline, but with its many variant forms across the globe.

A survey conducted in 2012 showed a significant decline in proactive economic strategies and a strong reliance on pensions and formal employment, occurring as a result of the 2008 financial crisis. The latest data, from a 2018 survey, show that post-crisis recovery has been followed by a renewal of proactive economic strategies, along with a more diverse range of labour strategies, and that households adopting these are achieving a better economic position. As was the case before the financial crisis, the economic position of households has been strongly influenced by the type of strategy they choose. This has greater significance than their starting position in the social strata.

Both surveys were the first surveys specially focused on VAW that were implemented on a representative sample of the population, so they enabled valid measures of prevalence. However, the survey in Serbia was limited to Central Serbia, while in BiH the sample was constructed in a way that enabled conclusions at the state level (whole BiH) and entity levels (Federation of BiH and Republika Srpska). The main differences between surveys were: in the subjects in Serbia the focus was only on domestic violence against women, while in BiH non-domestic VAW was also included; in VAW measures in BiH UNECE indicators defined the methodological framework, while in Serbia indices were constructed based on different methodologies; in data collection methods – i...

The feminist perspectives in sociology and then economics (late 1960s and 1970s), brought radical change in the study of intersection between economic and gender inequalities (in case of economy) and gender, economic inequalities and class (in case of sociology). During this stage instigated by the rise of Second Wave Feminism, fundamental critics of capitalist societies, that generate and reproduce gender inequalities through economic sphere was developed, with simultaneous critics of key social disciplines that were omitting to see the role of gender inequalities for the reproduction of the system and existing power relations. The aim of this article is to provide overview of contemporary state of art in the feminist economics and feminist sociology in regard to gender economic inequalities. The analysis is focused on thematic and ...

The focus is on the specific mechanisms through which the exchange has been unfolding, as well as on the perception of the functionality of the exchange for the position and interests of both type of actors. The analysis is conducted using empirical findings from the qualitative, in-depth research on political clientelism and party patronage implemented in the spring 2015 upon sample of 55 representatives of political elite, 26 economic actors, 9 interlocking broker and 8 experts. From the research, it is clear that economic actors have, to put it mildly, ambivalent attitude towards this way of functioning of the market. On the one hand, they feel all the risks they are exposed to: additional expenditure, unforeseen requiremen...

One is related to the financial decision-making in the household and includes the level of centralization and distribution of power in making decisions on expenditures for everyday life consumption and in regard to strategic financial decisions in households (approach adjusted from Vogler, 1994 and Pahl, 1995). The second is related to the division of household work and care for children and elderly in the family (based on Crompton, 2001 and Hochschild, 1997). The analysis is based on two waves of surveys on households’ socio-economic strategies in Serbia in 2003 and 2007 of the Institute for Sociological Research of the Faculty of Philosophy, and enables longitudinal insights in slow changes that are occurring in this area leaving still a dominant patriarchal model of intra-household gender relations. Intra-househ...

It affects women and girls of all ages but is particularly hard with those who live in poverty and face social vulnerability. We analyze the context, the typology and features of this grave human rights violation, which has a big social and economic impact in Europe. We present the situation of the EU28, EFTA and candidate countries, and some good practices. Finally, we analyze the EU role and the Istanbul Convention, recommending 15 measures that governments should implement, in order to eradicate gender-based violence and promote the victims' human rights in Europe.
