People in close relationships may experience four types of self-change: self-expansion, self- pruning, self-contraction, and self-adulteration. The current cross-sectional research sought to investigate whether these relational self-change processes explain the links between friendship quality and well-being in same-sex best friendships. Study 1A (N = 187) adapted the Turkish Relational Self-Change Scale to the friendship context and confirmed its psychometric adequacy in addressing friendship-based self-changes in Türkiye. Study 1B (N = 306) examined the links between different friendship functions and relational self-changes, as well as whether relational self-changes explain the link between friendship quality and ontological well-being. Among the specific friendship functions, stimulating companionship and self-validation were related to self- expansion and self-pruning, whereas reliable alliance was related to self-contraction and self-adulteration. Self-adulteration also indirectly explained the relationship between friendship quality and ontological well-being. Study 2 (N = 204) revealed that only self-pruning explained the link between perceived friend responsiveness and overall well-being. The contributions of friendships to self-change and personal well- being were discussed in light of the findings.

This article reports on two studies. Study 1 aimed to develop a parental competence scale and examine its psychometric qualities. Data was gathered from 915 Turkish mothers with children aged 3-6 years. In order to evaluate the instrument"s internal structure, exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were performed. EFA revealed that there was a single factor structure consisting of 13 items. CFA confirmed that all items in the one-dimensional scale are compatible with the model and goodness of fit values were acceptable. Reliability analyses showed that the scale"s internal consistency was high. Study 2 aimed to investigate the direct and indirect effects of parenting stress on parental competence and family harmony through the perceived available support. Data was obtained from 261 mothers with children ages 3-6 years. The results of the study revealed that the perceived available support not only mediated the relationship between parenting stress and parental competence, but also the relationship between parenting stress and family harmony. Findings were discussed in light of family dynamics literature.

It was hypothesized that there would be direct and indirect effects of positive future expectations on psychological well-being through quiet ego. The data was gathered from a sample consisting of 250 college students. Participants completed several instruments, namely, the Positive Future Expectation Scale, the Quiet Ego Scale, the Flourishing Scale, and the demographic information form. The analyses revealed that there is a significant direct effect of positive future expectations on psychological wellbeing. It was also found that there is a significant indirect effect of positive future expectations on psychological wellbeing via quiet ego. The obtained findings were discussed within the context of existing research. This study contributes to the expanding body of literature on psychological well-being by demonstrating that the quiet ego serves as a factor in explaining how positive future expectations are connected to psychological well-being.

We collected data from 2831 participants from nine regional locations from six countries and assessed their responses to the love scale as well as several other love feelings. We applied a new methodological approach using recently advanced statistical methods to the comparison of forty love attitudes underscoring four distinct latent attitudes associated with love to another person in romantic relationships across these samples. The results demonstrate the importance of measurement invariance tests for cross-cultural comparison of scores on love scales. To properly assess measurement invariance, we suggest five statistical procedures, which we investigated in this study: (1) making corrections for acquiescence and extreme response biases; (2) taking into consideration cultural uniqueness in how participants respond to the measures, which may contribute to poor model fit; (3) accounting for such cultural uniqueness to make cross-cultural comparisons more valid; (4) removing items, which substantially contribute to poor model fit; and (5) shortening the subscales when scoring and analyzing the data. The results of the studies propose two shortened versions (33 and 30 items) of the love scale as two cross-culturally valid and invariant alternatives to the original 40-item scale.

Under these circumstances, it is thought that determining which resources provide relational resilience would be a guide in strengthening a marriage relationship. This study aimed to investigate, under stressful life circumstances, how relational resilience in marriage is explained with self-pruning, and mediation role of satisfaction with sacrifice in the relationship between self-pruning and relational resilience. 300 married individuals (156 females and 144 males) who have at least one stressful life condition participated in the study (M = 40.74, SD = .60). Participants were given Personal Information Form, The Relational Resilience Scale, The Relational-Self Change Scale, and The Satisfaction with Sacrifice Scale. The structural equation model analyses (SEM) revealed that in the face of stressful life conditions, relational resilience in marriage is closely related to self-pruning and satisfaction with sacrifice. Results of the study showed that there is a direct relationship between self-pruning and relational resilience, and satisfaction with sacrifice has a partial effect in this relationship. These findings are expected to reveal some resources that have a role in providing relational resilience in marriage and by this way, make theoretical, practical, and interventional contributions to the field of marriage, family, and couple counseling. In addition, it is seen that the results indicate the existence of a potential serving to the understanding of relational dynamics in marriages.

One aim was to adapt the Inclusion of Other in the Self (IOS) Scale into the Turkish cultural context. The second aim was to develop the Turkish Self-Change in Romantic Relationships Scale (TSCRRS) based on the existing Relational Self-Change Scale. The research process for this study consisted of four stages. In the first stage, forward-backward translation of the IOS Scale was performed to determine bilingual equivalence. In the second stage, an item-pool was created to measure self-change in romantic relationships. In the third stage, data were collected to determine the reliability and validity of the TSCRRS (N = 426). In the fourth stage, new data were collected to determine the validity and reliability of the IOS Scale and the TSCRRS (N = 348). All of the participants were in a romantic relationship. The findings revealed that both the TSCRRS and the IOS Scale have good reliability and validity.

Whereas all interdependent cultures emphasize interpersonal connectedness, we suggest that the nature of this connection may differ between face and honor cultures. In a large survey, with 163 Japanese and 172 Turkish students, we tested the idea that, consistent with the concern for face, Japanese interdependence emphasizes conformity; that is, fitting in, whereas, consistent with the concern for honor, Turkish interdependence stresses relatedness; that is, sticking together. The results confirmed these hypotheses: Japanese described their agency more in terms of conformity than Turks, whereas Turks described their agency more in terms of relatedness. Moreover, relational well-being was predicted by conformity in the Japanese group and by relatedness in the Turkish group. Autonomy was also important for both samples, and it predicted personal well-being. Results suggest that a multi-dimensional approach to interdependent agency is needed to distinguish meaningfully between different interdependent cultures.

In the study, the textual analysis method was used to examine the stories in Leylâk Mevsimi. Analyses revealed that the male characters in Erol's stories represent specic macho archetypes (conqueror macho, playboy macho, masked macho, and authentic macho). It has been found that the author addresses some macho archetypes more frequently than others. The most common macho archetypes were determined as playboy macho and authentic macho. It has been determined that the playboy macho archetype is predominantly emphasized and represented in its negative aspects in the stories "Aleksandra Filipovna", "İlk Efendim Pomak Ali Efendi" and "Lâz Sıdkı'nın Florya'da Hovardalığı." Furthermore, the conqueror macho archetype has been found in the stories "Metruk Yalıda Garip Bir Gece" and "Gel Seninle Dertleşelim." The authentic macho archetype has been presented in "Dört Kişi", "Leylâk Mevsimi" and "Gel Seninle Dertleşelim." Finally, the masked macho archetype has been discovered in the story "İlk Efendim Pomak Ali Efendi." The results have shown that the playboy macho archetype primarily causes relational dilemmas in Erol's stories due to its polygamous nature. However, it was understood that the conqueror macho archetype with its over-controlling feature, the masked macho archetype with its hypocrisy characteristic, and the authentic macho archetype with its emphasis on seeking the ideal wife and mother all play important roles in the formation of these relational dilemmas. Another striking point in the stories was that the authentic macho archetype, which is characterized by its compassionate and fatherly attitudes, is portrayed as a more acceptable male representation when compared to other archetypes. This study provides an example of a machismo-based analysis of romantic relationships.

The story addressed the love experience of two women who had fallen in love with a man named Aslan. One of these women is Safiye who is the wife of Aslan, and the other one is Güllü who is his darling. The story has been built on the dialogue between these two women in the context of patriarchy. The aim of this study was to investigate women and men relationships based on gender-centered approaches such as patriarchy theory of Sylvia Walby, colors of love theory of John Alan Lee, care ethics of Carol Gilligan. In the analyses, three main themes and eleven sub-categories related to gender emerged in the text. The first one of these themes was glorification of masculinity, which was addressed in the framework of Aslan Bey’s ancestry, individual characteristics, romantic attitudes, and class. The second one was different facets of femininity, which were addressed in the context of Safiye and Güllü’s marital status, body, class, gender-based domestic division of labor, and care ethics. The third one was attitudes towards love, which emerged based on manic and agapic love. The findings showed that women’s love is experienced in the context of romantic ideologies produced by the patriarchal system.

Abstract: Sylvia Plath was one of the prominent figures of the confessional literature of twentieth century. Her life and works (especially her novel titled The Bell Jar and Ariel poems) have been examined by many researchers from different disciplines. This study only focused upon her journals through document analysis, a form of qualitative research method and her questionings on gender were analyzed in the light of her journals. To do this, firstly, the ideal woman's type of 1950's American society was addressed, then, the gender questionings of Plath were examined in the shade of this ideal woman image. Analysis showed that Plath has a lot of criticism related topics such as conflicting love styles, taboos on virginity, second sex and jealousy of male life, the position of women in marriage, the choice of spouse and fears of being calling a feminist or a spinster, sexual politics, beauty and body image, conflicts between marriage and career, motherhood and childbearing, and traditional gender roles within the family in American society during the Cold War. In addition, it was found that the hierarchical and patriarchal structure of Plath's family had a critical role in her viewpoint on gender.

The book aims 'to contribute both to becoming aware of one's entrenched worldviews and to finding new ways to be and be together' in educational settings (2). With this aim in mind, Chave touches on ideas offered by many ancient and modern thinkers, such as Plato, Braidotti, Biesta, Buber, Gilligan, Kant, Macmurray, Parmenides and Rancière, reflecting on how these contributions impact our understanding of sustainable and democratic education. Primarily, however, the author builds her arguments from views offered by Hannah Arendt. Thus, the book is organised in nine chapters: the first three are devoted to philosophical investigations on subjectivity and sustainability; these are followed by five chapters (Chapter 4 to Chapter
