"The Zora Child's Fate" is a Side Quest in Echoes of Wisdom.[1]
Overview
After completing the Main Quest "Chaos at River Zora Village", Princess Zelda can encounter Medaka trembling with fear in the River Zora Village.[2] If spoken to, he reveals that his mother has been talking about Monsters while looking at the Water pool in their House.[3] He is afraid that she is going to feed him to Monsters, and although he dismisses the idea, he is still certain his mother is disappointed in him for his inability to Swim.[4] Medaka asks Zelda to speak with his mother, which begins "The Zora Child's Fate".[5]
In the House of Medaka and his mother, Princess Zelda finds his mother in thought.[6] When approached, she recognizes Zelda as the one who helped rescue people from the Rift at Upper Zora River.[7] She then asks Zelda if she could bring her Monsters, claiming she needs them.[8] First, she asks for a Monster that resembles a "sinister fish".[9] The mother asks that Zelda place the Monsters that she brings in the House's pool, promising a reward for helping.[10] If Zelda summons the Echo of a Tangler or Tangler Lv. 2 in the pool, the River Zora mother is is happy with it.[11] In private, she then tries to use the Tangler to shine something in her possession, though it does not work as well as she would like.[12] Despite this, she is happy to have learned from the experience.[13]
Next, the River Zora asks Zelda to bring her a Monster that explodes when in proximity to others, which she must place in the Water again.[14] If Zelda summons the Echo of a Bombfish in the pool, the mother is satisfied with it.[15] Once again, she tries to use the Bombfish to polish something in private.[16] It works better than the Tangler did, but she is still not satisfied.[16] She still thanks Zelda, claiming she has learned even more now.[17]
The final Monster that Medaka's mother asks Zelda to bring is a "shocking jellyfish monster", and she wants it in the pool of Water like the others.[18] If Zelda summons the Echo of a Biri in the Water, the River Zora is pleased with it.[19] Mesmerized by its colors, she accidentally shocks herself with its Electricity.[20] However, she is finally able to polish the Item she has to her liking.[21] She then invites Zelda to bring it to Medaka with her.[22] Medaka's mother attempts to show him the Item, but he runs away in fear of being fed to Monsters.[23] The River Zora comforts her son and asks him to hold out his hand.[24] She gives him a Zora Scale, which she explains has been polished with a secret Zora technique and will help him Swim.[25] She reveals that she made it because Medaka was so afraid of Swimming, which inspires Medaka to try to Swim.[26]
Medaka then runs to the Water nearby and begins Swimming in circles, and his mother cheers for him.[27] Medaka now believes Swimming is fun, and he thanks his mother.[28] The River Zora mother returns to Zelda and expresses her gratitude for her help.[29] As a reward, she gives Zelda a Zora Scale of her own.[30] She explains that the Monsters Zelda summoned were used to research ways to polish Zora Scales, thanking her again.[31] Afterwards, "The Zora Child's Fate" will be completed.
