Gina, MS, & Roxanne, RN, BSN on Instagram: "What is Happening during a contraction?? Comment “CHILDBIRTH” for the direct link to our childbirth education for more education to help breakdown the mystery of birth! When your body is contracting during labor, as the cervix dilates and effaces it builds up and thickens the fundus. The fundus is what pushes baby down onto the cervix and eventually OUT of the body! When we have the practice contractions or Braxton hicks contractions, this is the middle portion of the uterus contracting, but nothing is happening really in the fundus to cause the cervix to dilate! This balloon demo is one of my favorites that we do in every childbirth ed class 😂😂 just watch out for the flying ping pong ball 😂 #childbirtheducation #uterus #fundus #labo Cervix Opening Exercises, How To Dilate Cervix Faster Naturally, Cervix Dilation, Contractions Labor, Braxton Hicks, Childbirth Education, What Is Happening, Ping Pong, Labor

If you are a childbirth educator, we are so thankful for the time and energy you invest in parents and in helping them have positive birth experiences. Your job is extremely valuable and the role that you fill is not available in quite the same way from anywhere except a childbirth class. You do this job because, like us, you believe that it is important for parents to be wise consumers, have access to the full range of options and information, and be at the center of the process.

When I talk with my doula clients and childbirth education students, after they have given birth they often comment that the practice that they did prior to birth was a huge help during labor and birth. I believe that couples who spend time practicing comfort measures and coping techniques before the first contraction even starts feel more relaxed and prepared for the big day. Christina Nikki Bergen | PILATES + PELVIC HEALTH on Instagram: "You get one pelvic floor - ONE! And pregnancy and childbirth can really take its toll. There are ways you can protect your pelvic floor and likely reduce perineal tearing!

When it’s safe to do so, labouring down and pushing in upright, sacrum-freeing positions like side lying or hands and knees are two evidence-based ways to reduce pelvic floor trauma.

Self-advocating can be HARD during birth. Having knowledge and education going into labour is key to help you find your voice. Talk to your care providers, ideally during your pregnancy. Make a birth plan and use it as talking points. Know your options.

No one can "plan" birth, but you can plan to be educated and informed, with the right support around you.
