An Aztec residence circa 1500 AD. In the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, the residential districts surrounded the downtown area. As the city was built upon an artificial island, the houses were separated via canals; travel through the city was mainly by boat. This middle-class household has an oven (uncommon in European cities of the time), a milpa (mixed-crop agriculture), and some turkeys in the enclosure. This is the result of my studies on Aztec architecture. Basically, their houses were of two general types - common houses, and nobility houses. In this artwork I pictured what the Aztec Noble's house would have looked like. Of course, I exaggerated some features, and simplified others, but in general, I believe that I managed to convey the general form as it used to be and to add my personal interpretations on the design.
