The study followed the mixed approach, where two instruments (quantitative and qualitative) were used to collect the research data: a pre-and post-speaking test and the researcher's observation. The participants were seventh graders assigned randomly into a control group (48 male and female) and an experimental group (38 male and female). The experimental group was taught using movies as an instructional technique, while the control group was taught conventionally (through presentations). The study was implemented in eight weeks. The study's findings demonstrated statistically significant differences between students' speaking performance based on the speaking test scores in favor of the experimental group. This resulted in using movies as a teaching technique, particularly in vocabulary, fluency, pronunciation, and spoken grammar sub-skills. It was also revealed that no significant differences in students' speaking performance between males and females can be attributed to the teaching technique. Accordingly, some recommendations were suggested.

The current study is a descriptive content analysis paper that followed a checklist containing the cognitive levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy as well as a checklist of the possible verbs by OPAR (2012) that combined the Revised Taxonomy as well. The finding in this study indicated that majority of the cognitive objectives in the second edition belong to both LOTS (Comprehension) and HOTS (Analysis and Synthesis) whereas the focus of the first edition was mainly on Comprehension and Analysis. Some objectives, also, were paraphrased to reflect the cognitive objectives where they were more related to reading comprehension sub-skills (skimming, scanning, previewing, etc.). Based on the findings, some recommendations were listed.

It is an attempt to answer if there is a statistical significance difference between the experimental and control groups' scores on the speaking test due to the teaching method (role-play strategy vs. the Teacher's Book instructions). A total of 86 homogeneous participants were selected through a random sampling technique from two sections at Lameece Secondary School for Girls in Amman, Jordan during the second semester of the academic year 2016-2017. The experimental group was 42 students while the control group was 44 students. For data collection, a role-play instructional program based on the speaking activities in Action Pack 10, a speaking test and a rating scale were used. The collected data were analyzed using proper statistical measures such as ANCOVA and MANCOVA. The results revealed that the role-play strategy had a significant effect on the five components of the speaking skill with the students of the experimental group. Further empirical studies on the effect of role-play strategy on developing other language skills are needed.

For the collection of data, 42 Jordanian university students completed the reading journal. The data collected were statistically processed by using frequencies, ranks, and percentages. The results obtained showed that: (a) the top five strategies that students used most while reading in English are: using dictionary when unknown words could not be inferred from the context, underlining important and difficult parts of the text, guessing the meaning of unknown words from the context, reading over the text again if there is contradictory information, and skipping unknown words which do not contribute to understanding and (b) the during-reading strategies received the top rank then the pre-reading strategies. Finally, the last ranked strategies were the postreading strategies.

The researchers developed a form of three categories of values based on previous studies that they had come across. It examined the existence of values in Action Pack 12 in terms of religious values, personal and social values. The findings revealedthat the literary pieces were heavily loaded with values related to social and personal values whereas religious values were given the lowest percentage through the two literature spots of Action Pack 12. Additionally, analysis of the results revealed that the selection of literary work plays an important role in motivating students to read them. Finally, the Arabic literature is rich with masterpieces that can be included in the curriculum to teach values, themes and morals.

Using cluster sampling method, participants chosen to be included in the study consisted of six male and six female classes (120 male and 120 female students) of the preparatory year deanship students at King Saud University, 2009-2010. Following the administration of a vocabulary test as the instrument, descriptive statistics and ANOVA tests were used to analyze the collected data. Results revealed that the students were weak in using the right strategies in guessing the meaning of unknown vocabulary. The use of a combination of two or more strategies was found to result in a better correct guessing rate, but few students tended to use this technique. The results support the importance of practical training in when and how to use various strategies: students need to be given regular practice in order to learn how to use them most effectively. Highlighting the main strategies which students use to correctly derive the meaning of words, the findings indicate EFL teachers should train their students in the use of a variety of strategies for guessing the meaning of unfamiliar words.

As such, the current study content analyzed the first and the second stage secondary English as a foreign language (EFL) textbooks taught at public schools in Jordan. This descriptive analytical research design was carried out to explore the means and frequencies of text structure types included in both textbooks and the extent of fairness in presenting these structures within the reading texts of both textbooks. The main aim of the study is to provide insights for both EFL teachers and book designers to expose students to varied types of text structure. A content analysis sheet for coding the material based on the criterion of inclusion was used. The reading passage was the unit of analysis. The analysis of the study revealed that the Jordanian secondary stage textbooks include a variety of text structure types that are not fairly distributed; nevertheless, the descriptive structure was the most frequent structure in both textbooks. Starting from this premise, the current study discussed the pedagogical implications of text structure teaching. Accordingly, the study recommends that book designers should integrate reading texts of varied text structure types without ignoring some structures in favor of others, also it recommends that EFL teachers should be trained to use text structure strategy in EFL reading classes.

The researchers claim that mind mapping strategy has the potential to improve Jordanian students' writing performance. The study follows a quasi-experimental design in which an experimental group and a control group were purposefully chosen from eleventh grade students at Al Hashymiah School for Boys, Zarqa in Jordan during the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017. In the experimental group, 20 students were taught by mind mapping strategy and 20 students of control group were taught by the conventional teaching method as outlined in the Teacher's Book. To collect the data, a pre-test and a post-test was utilized. ANCOVA was used to measure statistical differences in the mean scores of the participants of the study. The findings reveal statistically significant differences (at α≤0.05) between the two mean scores of experimental and control groups in the post-test in favor of experimental group. The study recommends an integration of the mind mapping strategy into the English as a foreign Language (EFL) curriculum in Jordan as it facilitates developing students' writing skill. The study also recommends to examine the effect of using mind mapping strategy on EFL students' achievements in other language skills and sub skills. Teachers are also advised to use the mind mapping strategy to increase students' interest and motivation to write more often.

The results of this study could be beneficial for the Jordanian Ministry of Education as it may design extra pre-and in-service training programs on how to use the teacher's book properly. An observation checklist that was arranged under a number of dimensions, was designed by the researchers and used to observe 20 female and male ninth grade teachers while teaching Action Pack Nine material. The study used the descriptive design. More than 60 classroom periods were observed, three periods at least for each teacher and the forms were filled in with ticks and notes. The collected data were analyzed using proper statistical measures and conclusions were reached based on this analysis. Furthermore, the teachers were interviewed using a set of questions that focus on the reasons of not using or lack of using the teacher's book. Their responses were analyzed and common themes were drawn. The findings of the study revealed that EFL Jordanian teachers did not use the teacher's book effectively. The findings also revealed that long experience, lack of time, students' level and quality, the lack of training and the lack of classroom facilities were behind not or the lack of the use of the teacher's book. The study ended with a number of recommendations for further research.
