In this context, the present paper focuses on two privately-funded excavations carried out in two key sites: at Kera, Kalyves, where there has been recently increased construction activity and in the settlement of Georgioupoli. In particular, excavations (2015-2016) in the S. Bobrov plot at Kera revealed Late Minoan II-III tombs and a large number of ritual deposits. Moreover, excavations (2018-2019) at Georgioupoli, in a plot owned by Asteras S.A., unearthed a section of a workshop dating from the Imperial era that produced, among others, amphoras for transporting wine.

Michael Milidakis & Eleni Papadopoulou
During 2015-2016, at the site Kera Kalyves in the province of Apokoronas,
a rescue excavation conducted by the Ephorate of Antiquities of
Chania revealed part of a Minoan cemetery and 104 “ceremonial” pits.
According to the offerings with the two pithos burials, the first use of the
place was probably in the LM II period. Three chamber tombs, dated to
LM IIIA2-B phase by their contexts came to light.
The pits, circular or elliptical in plan, varied in shape and depth.
They were filled with pottery, animal bones, pebbles, ash and stones.
Their pottery assemblage, mostly cooking and table ware, is dated in the
LMIII B-C period. It is possibly that they had ritual function and were
used for the disposal of remains of communal meals (memorial ceremonies?)
in a single depositional act. Similar pits, in context and in date,
were also found in Khamalevri, in Aghia Eirini and in Thronos/Sybritos.
A wall, a zig-zag structure and two elongated ditches, both rock cut,
have been found at the site. Residential traces have not been recovered yet.

For this reason, it was built in direct or indirect relation to the public center. In monarchical states it was related to the palace as it served the kingship. The gradual development of this
connection is observed in the cases of Vergina, Pergamon and Alexandria of Egypt.

Centre in Chania, which provides counseling and treatment for various forms of addictions. The first
educational project focused on the history of ancient and modern theater. Furthermore the participants worked
on dramatization and they presented a performance at the ancient theater of Aptera. The action had therapeutic
effects. The aim of the second project was each member of the target group to tell a story about an archeological
find. The group visited the Archaeological Museum of Chania in order each member to choose an archaeological
artifact, as subject for their own story. On the 18th of May 2018 International Museums Day each member, in front
of the chosen artifact told a story about it. All the stories showed another way of approaching archaeological finds,
rich in emotions.

century a.D. that depicts a young sleeping Eros resting on an inverted torch. the sculpture, found randomly in Kissamos Health Center area, some decades ago, is exposed in the regional archaeological Museum. Despite attic influences, probably is the product of a local workshop.Since the exact findspot and the context remains hypothetical, its particular motif is connected with death (Eros funéraire) as well as the joys of life and the banquets (symposia)conducted in the luxury villas that have been excavated in Kissamos Health Centerbroader area.

An attempt is made to present the archaeological sites, monuments and history of the area from prehistoric to modern times, in order to highlight the richness and importance of its cultural heritage. The research was conducted on residents of the city, in order to record their knowledge and their opinions about the archaeological and historical character of the city. In addition, the reasons which are considered necessary for the preservation and designation of this heritage are searched. Also, particular ways of strengthening the historical and archaeological consciousness of the residents are proposed. The quantitative research with questionnaire was chosen as the most appropriate method for this kind of research.
