This page describes the Wikidata projects and initiatives undertaken by the J. Murrey Atkins Library at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Project information
[edit]Background and history
[edit]The Atkins Library took part in the PCC Wikidata Pilot, in collaboration with our partners in North Carolina Metadata Connect in 2020-2021. Since the official end of the pilot, the Atkins Library has continued contributing. In 2022, the Atkins Library hired a Wikidata Fellow for several months to continue expanding the library's Wikidata initiatives. We have been adding items and statements to Wikidata, and making Wikidata part of our metadata workflows.
Aims and scope
[edit]At Atkins Library, we are using Wikidata especially to help manage and unify the online identities of members of our community and associated entities.
We have been creating items for these entities:
- UNC Charlotte faculty
- UNC Charlotte divisions and departments
- UNC Charlotte buildings
- Persons represented in UNC Charlotte Special Collections
Identifying our work
[edit]Items we created or enhanced can be identified through the on focus list of Wikimedia project (P5008) property.
